Hello Internet,
I'll go straight to the problem
I think I bricked my phone
It all started when I was trying to view those damn emoticons that iPhone users keep posting on twitter
a few google searches said that installing fonts to view these emoticons requires rooting
so I rooted my device using Odin
It worked fine
but then I tried installing the fonts
there were 4 of them
the first one installed ok
when I installed the second font
my phone rebooted and nothing appeared on the screen
it only shows the "Samsung Galaxy I9300" part and then nothing
I rooted it again thinking that it might help, and it didn't
now I am trying to unroot it or do anything to make it work
My country "Bahrain" isn't on the firmware download list on sammobile
so I chose Saudi Arabia which is right across the border and their carriers don't lock their phones
I am writing this while the firmware is downloading
but it is taking FOREVER
the old firmware ended in DLD as in XXDLD .. there are more letters obviously but I can't remember
There is another functional unrooted phone in my house from the same store I bought mine
ANY help I get would be welcomed
P.S. If this is in the wrong section, please move it
Try CHECKFUS .

I would first try booting to recovery and wiping cache, then under advanced go to Wipe Dalvik, and if that doesn't work wipe data/factory reset.
If none of those work then reflashing via Odin should get you back up.
Hey bro, try rebooting into recovery mode and wiping cache and dalvik cache, also you may want to flash Poland Release from sammobile which is version 4.1.2 .
I already did a cache wipe and reset to factory whatever
didn't do the davlik thingy though
I sent the phone to a shop that said they knew how to repair it
I think they're over-priced idiots but if they can get it to work ..
once I do get it back I will try it your way if it is still not working
thanks for the replies guys

You should have just reflashed if a factory reset didn't work rather than take it to a shop, that's all it will have needed. The font you flashed probably messed a system file up, and a reflash is all it needed. Flashing a font as root can only cause software issues, and a reflash will solve any of them.
If you can get into download mode or recovery mode you can recover a phone yourself, these repair shops should only be used for known hardware issues or hard bricks.
I think you should read some more information about flashing. I dont mean to be rude or anything, just saying.

Yeah I bet, I just need to explore the forums
You can always run KIES's emergency recovery option to download the original firmware that came in your phone.

Got the Galaxy S3 on the 3 network in the UK, all was fine & dandy then found out about how the phone was updated & basically 3 sit twiddling their thumbs on it. Went looking for a solution, found a nice simple flash the phone with Odin, use proper Samsung firmware, thought that will do the trick for me.
Unfortunately I did exactly as I was told (didn't go down the root, well, route as there were too many options and I was lost as to wether I was using the right stuff) People swore by the flash to samsung firmware, did that last night, was perfect. Only thing left was the change csc thing, to select BTU but the option wasnt there...was told to download another firmware.......the phone returned with a "unfortunately, the process android.acore has stopped" message, was told to to a reset.......then got "unfortunately, messaging has stopped". Have flashed a few times now to no avail, I can no longer text, is my phone basically broken beyond repair?
Not ruined, but it sounds like you have clobbered some system files. Read up on rooting. Hopefully you can Root and then install a custom recovery like CWM then install a custom ROM.
It would have been better to have made a backup via recovery before you started flashing stuff.
Flash stock ROM and start again

Or even factory reset .
But its a bad flash probably could be a corrupt download or wrong firmware .

seems like u didnt follow the instructions and u could have even bricked your device all that i can say is factory reset or flash a new rom

(s)he is having issues just fixing a stock rom misflash and you recommend a custom ROM? Even root was too complicated
I've flashed past phones to death and even still following instructions exactly, they don't always work as they should. Yeah they have cool features and yeah me or you can probably manage to fix any issues they throw up, but they are definitely not for everyone.

Bull****...his problems have nothing to do with a brick. Don't scare him.
i'd defo try a factory, cache and dalvik reset first before flashing again, you'l loose all your data but it may fix the problems you are experiencing.. Boot into recovery mode to do that.
Thanks for all the replies. I have flashed with Odin 3.04 & have found out 3.07 is out...could this be where it all went wrong? I tried following the rooting stuff but found so many variations & in my head (technology challenged when it comes to this) it was all going over my head. I did do the factory reset & reflash with a stock software (the latest I believe) but I don't know if it is a network thing which knackerec me, in CSC I have sales code saying H3G with no options to select BTU. If I post a screenshot of my settings (about device) would that help someone steer me in the right direction as a possible starting point.
My phone appears to be no longer 3 branded, but it should be locked to the 3 network in the uk.
I had the same issue with my Three branded phone. What i did was flash the rom with the PDA button ticked in Odin and then flashed it again with the same file but ticked the CSC icon instead of the PDA and it worked and then let me select BTU from the menu. Give it a try and report back, i'm 99% sure it'll work.
BTW you'll lose the HD voice by flashing it. I still havent found and easy way to get it back working.

The link for the stock you posted is what I used....didn't root as I said, but appeared to work perfectly. Then I lost access to kies & was told I needed to use csc to tick the BTU option & that would work, except I didnt & still don't have that option. Was given another link to apparently the same stock that had "multi csc options" & that when I got the Samsung acore error & I did a factory reset after about 30 minutes of trying to get into the options, then the messaging stopped working & I found out how to do te factory reset using te vol button home power thing. Is there a specific 3 firmware where I can get my phone branded again & take it from there?

I am happy flashing on release, please understand this is all new. If losing kies is not an issue coz I can just flash then cool. I thought kies was an essential part of the updating. I can use my phone fine just now (using go SMS Pro) but would like it back to fully working phone which would be sweet.
Nothing good is wrong with your phone. It's not even a brick yet. Flash a cwm recovery and then re trying using check rom.

None of these guys no what there talking about. You've bricked your phone and you won't be able to fix it. Best thing to do is cut your loss and sell it. I'll be generous and give you £50 pounds for it. That's right a fresh £50 note right now, hard cash delivered right to your door step, no questions asked!
Honestly though try flashing the original 3 firmware, it should be in the firmware thread I believe.
P.S You've not bricked your phone, no where near it so don't worry about it.

I'm on 3 UK same happened to me when I unbranded. Don't panic your phone is fine. Turn off phone then hold power + home + volume up. Let go when you see the Android man. Wipe factory reset and dalvik cache you will lose everything. Then reboot. Don't bother letting it boot back up, just hold power + home + volume down. Then flash unbranded rom via odin. Once done and booted type *#272*yourimei# and you should now have option of btu.

Hi guys i have a issue here.
My phone was initially rooted in clockworkmod and running cyogenomod 10. But the rom kept hanging which pisses me a little.
So, i did a stock rom install using odin. After the reflash, i can see and hear the startup music, thereafter, it starts to restart. From there on, it reloops at the samsung S3 GT-I9300.
I tried to send to samsung for repair and they couldnt resolve this. Instead the recovery mode was restored back to the original (without clockworkmod now).
With my issues, can you guys help me on this whether can i restore the phone again? Appreciate your comments!
*BTW, i had backup in clockworkmod on my external sd card.

Could not do factory reset in software because i cant even get to that.
Did the "reset" in recovery mode by deleting user data files, doesn't work
Is this a complete brick for me?
I do not wanna send in the phone for the MB changeout till i can resolve this.
Anyone knows what to do next? Appreciate the help given.

If you wont read the basics then yes take to service and pay for a repair as you do not have a clue what you are doing its safer .

I also think something went wrong while flashing. As stated above, try factory reset and flash again. My guess would be you forgot to wipe your (Dalvik) cache, had a similar problem.

You said Samsung didn't manage to fix it? It it was a local repair center?
The only thing to do is to flash a whole complete stock Rom with Odin, see in stock roms there's I'm general section to grab one. You can try also to use Samsung s3 toolkit in original android section, stickies.. if you have a Rom image it will be easier to flash it with it no risk messing with Odin settings.
Perhaps you should read about pit corruption, it can be this also.

Hello.. I have faced similar issue in India with looping of logo on my Galaxy S3.
I went to the official service center and they flashed my phone 2 times with original stock rom but the issue did not go.
Finally they have to replace my phone's mother board completely and it got resolved.
I am still not sure how this has happened or is it some kind of virus.. but i was watching a video and my phone hanged and looping of logo started on my S3.
Good that my phone was under warantee so i did not have to pay any money...
But some senior members should through some light on it...
Hi Guys,
i managed to get it back to stock rom by flashing the below linked rom.
The samsung service are really......What they can't solve, they would use the worst scenario which is to change the board...
Actually i have been charged (30 bucks) by them which they can't resolve. They told me that they had flashed the ROM and that incured the charges....I was thinking wat dafuq....Cannot resolve still have the cheek to charge me. Anyway in short, they void my warranty because they saw the cwm. They were very happy when they saw that.... Anyway the warranty left 3 months, not of a issue to me.
For people who have the same issue with me, just flashed the rom (JB) that was in the below link. All the best.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825272
And not forgetting the seniors and juniors whom helped. Appreciate that!
I have to return my Verizon S3 for warranty replacement and I searched for a video on YouTube to help me with unrooting it. I followed the steps as per the video and ran the stock firmware through ODIN and the process completed with no problem. At that point the phone started to reboot and I expected it to boot up and I'd be good to go but instead its stuck in a boot loop and I don't know what to do at this point. I redid the whole process several times and each time it ends in a boot loop.
I'm an over the road trucker and I NEED my phone ASAP. I cant and wont drop $600 for a replacement phone and NO I don't have the insurance so I need to fix what I have.... I'm in a truck stop using the internet and I'm hoping for a quick solution to get my phone back up and running..
If anyone can help me figure this out I'd greatly appreciate it
Can anyone help?
Need the proper software and process to get this done.

It took me longer then normal because I am a trucker and the internet connections at truck stops is pretty crappy most of the time. I got lucky this time and found one with a GREAT connection and I was finally able to download the proper firmware as you suggested. I went to Sammobile as you suggested, joined the site and downloaded the file, flashed with Odin and i'm back in business.. Thanks a bunch for your help to get my phone up and running.

Hey
I bought a used s3 so i dont have any idea whether the phone is carrier locked or not but it was rooted when i got it and was on 4.0.4 i wanted to update it and it took me quite sometime to figure it out
I tried odin and many other softwares in start but no success anyhow later on one night my phone was about to turn off and i had to keep it on so i removed the battery stats and the next morning whenever i made a call the call would last for about 6 mins and in the same time cell would show a message i.e. process.adroid.com.phone has stopped working when i pressed OK the signals would go away and after 2-3 secs they would come back on the same hand when somebody called me i wasnt able to pick their calls because the same message i.e. process.adroid.com.phone has stopped working would pop up.
Anyhow finally after 4-5 days i thought of flashing a custom rom becuz i though i had corrupted my modem so i downloaded this file
downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS3/roms/leaked4.2.2/Rooted-I9300XXUFME3-4.2.2.zip
and flashed it. It was in hebrew i guess and after flashing it i stopped getting sound on call both when i received one or made one. I got a YELLOW BOX as well on home screen and app screen. Rest was working fine sim card was detected, i could use whatsapp, listen to songs, wifi worked fine, in short everything except calling worked fine
Then a friend of mine told me that i had installed a wrong rom so he gave me a link and i flashed this rom this time
omega-roms.net/blog/?page_id=763
Version 43.5
I.e. Jb 4.1.2
After flashing this rom i am still getting the yellow box that i got when i flashed my phone to 4.2.2 and i m stuck with emergency calls only everything else works fine. I have checked emei it matches that on the back of phone
Information regarding my phone is
Model Number: GT-I9300
ANDROID VERSION: 4.1.2
BASEBAND VERSION: I9300XXEMA5
Older baseband was
I9300BULE6
It had vodafone app as well before i flashed that jewish ROm

You may want to go back to the stock rom using Odin and see if this fixes the issue. That is the only thing I can suggest at this point since you said you've done everything else. When you bought this phone did you swap the sim card? You may also want to get that replaced and see if that works. Good luck.

Yes finally i have removed the microsim using pin i want to see if the same issue persists with any other sim. The sim module must be fine becaue when i removed the sim card it showed insert sim card
About hardware problem. How can you say that? I could make a call 6 mins long and couldnt receive it on my prev 4.0.4 version then later on on Jb 4.2.2 i was able to make calls but with no sound but now i get emergency calls only So this is not a hardware problem and the baseband has changed can it be the reason?
The app says the phone is unlocked so is it actually unlocked or is there any hard secondary lock which this app is not able to detect?

Please read the rules this is not a fix your phone service centre . If you want help don't be rude . Start at the beginning the original post is confusing and much of the process carried out are wrong . Start by factory reset phone and then flash the stock firmware via Odin from sammobile.com that is for your phone and network .But not any 4.2.2 version . Alternative if you are rooted and have CWM recovery is to format sd card system cache data and preload . Boot to download mode and flash stock rom via Odin . Then check your IMEI matches that under the battery . Test phone . jje

You have been answered follow the answer.
You would be far better to read the faqs and guides first as you do not have a clue as to what is what .

Could there be some hardware issue with my phone?
In any case, do factory reset, you may use the full wipe script and delet Google Accounts.
ofic.fw.přes flash odin 4.1.2 and all login again

Possible
But biggest problem is that OP has not a clue due to not bothering to read faqs and guides .
Has probably messed everything up as every step has been clueless and wrong .
AGAIN

I'm having real issues trying to get a stock ROM on my Virgin Mobile S3 (GT-I9300) and I'm hoping you guys can help me. I've looked absolutely everywhere for a solution but so far nothing has worked.
OK so a little history about the problem:
Using phone as normal, and then randomly turns off. Turn it back on and I get the two Samsung splash screens loop booting constantly. I boot into recovery mode and do a factory reset - same problem. Clear the cache - same problem. Send phone back to Virgin and they tell me I've rooted and installed a custom ROM which I absolutely have not but they have a screenshot with the custom counter showing '1'.
I've no idea how this is possible, but I would have remembered if I'd installed a custom ROM. Anyway, they send it back because I'm not going to fork out £100 for them to flash it.
So...lots of research later, I download the latest Odin (3.09), find the most likely stock ROM that will work with my phone (Carrier is Virgin Mobile UK). I find this ROM on SamMobile: I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU. Cannot for the life of me find an actual Virgin rom so this apparently should be fine as it's a generic EU build.
Fine, so I apply it using the AP selection in Odin, connect phone, it goes through and applies fine "PASS" etc.. and phone reboots automatically.
Now, it just sits at the Samsung splash screen (the static white text) and doesn't go any further. I've left it upwards of 10 minutes but no dice. So look online and find threads that suggest booting to recovery and doing a factory reset will do the trick. So try that (Power+volume up+home) and same problem - static splash screen. Balls.
So now I don't know what to do. I either need to try an actual Virgin ROM which doesn't seem to exist(?!) or my phone is truely bricked and I'll finally have a good reason to destroy the thing.
Can anyone let me know what the next steps should be? I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance.
I found the s3 to be a pain when doing a reset. Basically do it twice. Wipe, flash, wipe then boot. As far as I know btu is correct but virmin mobile used to rent their airspace from tmobile who are now half ee. Such a minefield..

When you say 'wipe' do you mean factory reset via recovery mode? Because I'm not able to access that. All I can get to is Download Manager to use with Odin...
I thought you said you could access recovery and you had cleared cache. In that case you are buggered. If it goes through the flashing phase and reboots but you still cannot get into recovery then you have 3 options..
1. Flash another rom but no lower than 4.3. Carrier shouldn't matter.
2. Full on flash with pit file (dangerous and can perma brick).
3. Return the phone under warranty and state that the flash counter also clocks official flashes too, samsung should know this as they make the phone.. staff need training if they say otherwise.

Try the rescue firmware from general forum, follow the instructions exactly as it includes a pit.
It sounds like nand failure, so it's possible that you won't be able to fix it.

Apologies for not being clearer, before sending it back to Virgin for the warranty repair I could access the recovery mode fine, when I got it back I couldn't - whether that was caused by the flashing of the firmware or something Virgin did I don't know unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip - I've flashed the stock recovery and I can now get into recovery mode! Looks slightly different but I can now access the factory reset/wipe cache options so that's some improvement.
I'm just downloading the stock international ROM as per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fix-s3-to-factory-unroot-stock-recovery-t2323847 but it's going to take a few hours. Thanks so much for your advice so far i'll report back once the download completes.
No joy
I can however get into download mode and recovery mode now. Is there anything else I can try? Is it possible I can get a custom recovery image on there and flash it with something other than the stock rom?
I've got a feeling you're correct and it could be a hardware fault. Virgin say I can pay £100 to get it fixed, if they have to replace the entire phone that would prove it wasn't 'tampering' that caused it so I could potentially get my money back I guess, if I complained. I think that might be my only option now.
Ok I just booted into recovery mode and I was greeted with this error:
Any ideas what this could mean?

I say this to people who have this sort of problem but I mention the dreaded word and they tend to ignore it but will tell you what to try anyway.
Install Kies 3 for android 4.3 (there I said it Kies) on the top menu bar click Tools then Firmware Upgrade and Installation
Follow the on screen instructions, this process will wipe the phone and install the most up to date original carrier / phone firmware, after this the phone should work and you can then root, flash roms etc , it may work for you so try it, don't just dismiss it because it refers to the use of Kies

Unfortunately I've already tried Kies, and it doesn't recognise the device when in recovery mode.

Make sure you are using the USB cable supplied with the phone and it is connected direct to your PC USB port, ideally the ones on the back but don't connect through any multi USB port connectors.
The USB cables and how you connect can make a difference
