Coming up on my 30 days and I'm seriously unhappy with the camera on this phone. The camera on my One X was much better. I like everything else about the X+ better, so that said, is the camera issue likely to be addressed by HTC with a future software update? I find it really hard to believe that the horrendous jpeg artifacts are acceptable for a device that is touted for its camera and separate camera chipset.
I am going to try the camera mod that has been posted, but aside from any mods, I'm really wondering if it's likely that HTC will address this problem themselves?
My 15 days is over. Hopefully HTC fixes this,as the mod has better quality than the stock. So I assume it's a software issue.
If you have a spare phone, return it and wait a couple of months to see if HTC fixed. Atleast you have a chance now.

Here's a screenshot of a close-range image using the flash. It is in Photoshop being viewed at 100%. This is terrible quality for a high-end phone with an f2.0 lens.

@all the people here, who say camera is fine - please, SHOW! post your pics!
The photos are fine in almost every cases for a handy cam, except low light pics.
BUT that is quite normal for such small cam chips... we have not a DSLR with a F1.4
We don't have to post pics, were not the ones moaning about stupid crap 24/7. At the end of the day, you bought a mobile phone not an SLR camera. Are your lives that shallow that you have nothing to do but come on here an moan about the same stupid things day in day out.

Heres a picture from my phone. IMO there is nothing wrong with the camera sensor for a £450 phone.
The first image is a normal picture. But the second was taken in total darkness in my hall. There was no light apart from the flash, and i still think the quality is good.

Yes, quite normal and ( physics )
First picture is into the sun ... and so to much light.
The 2nd one shows the problem at low light ... ( noises at higher ISO )
If you make a pic at normal daylight and with some photo knowledge - everything is fine
Here is a low light sphere pic taken with the JB 4.2 Cam that comes with the InsertCoin ROM...I say that is pretty good for a handy cam!

This thread just happened to catch my eye because the HTC DNA (which I own) seems to be giving us DNA owners the same exact issue. Pictures are pretty good (wonderful actually) in normal lighting. But the quality drops horribly in low lighting. My wife's Incredible 2 takes better pictures in low light. From what I understand is that this is a software issue dealing with the camera's (highly touted) sensor in the One X + and DNA. This can be fixed via an update. The question is when and if HTC is going to do it for us.

The blur is probably because a phone's shape doesn't lend itself to taking a shot AND holding the phone still. Also, the sensor is teensy tiny, and it doesn't have a very fast "shutter speed". So, it's like taking pics with an SLR in dim light with a 1/30 second shutter: it's going to have motion blur w/o a stand. If you want crystal clear shots, use a vise/stand of some kind.
Maybe Canon's or Nikon's next pro-sumer DSLR will make/receive calls, texts, and play Angry Birds.
I use CameraZoomFX which lets me prop the phone and 'tell' the camera to take the picture hands-free. Those shots are always very clear. Handheld shots, not so much.

Oh will be nice to have a call with a 70-200 2.8 in hand
Okay, I'm lost....
Can anyone who still had pics prior to the leaks and NOW have one of the leaks post comparison pics? I mean seriously, as crisp as the photos are on GB, I can't see how there's such a need for enhancement to the razr's photo quality that it warrants a full thread. lol I'm still on a totally stock GB rom (anxiously biting my nails waiting for the update) and I'm ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHED at how crisp and detailed the camera's photos are.
Lol. Calls will be short with that lens on there. It would be funny though, seeing how huge people's arms get from holding a 4 kilo phone all day. They'd look like hermit crabs.
yeah its with ics leaks .204 let me look at my fb pictures maybe i got one with GB
i found one with GB
BTW - I've tried all of the "pro" camera apps available, and Camera FV-5 is easily the best one.
As to pictures on ICS vs GB, at least on .79, there isn't a huge change. It's all in the app you use.
The stock camera app on ICS seems to focus better prior to capture.
A good camera app should be able to take the same quality pic on GB as it would on ICS unless there was a flaw in the camera drivers under GB, which I don't think there was.
The Razr seems to have a decent sensor, but cheap / small optics. Don't get me wrong, it does take pretty good shots, but not like you'd see on a newer device with bigger, higher quality lenses. The sensor is only half of the battle, but people give the megapixel count all of their attention.
Some of the newer cams (like the OneX) have better optics and you can tell the difference right away. Plus a bigger lens helps keep noise down in dark shots.
I want to have a thread specifically for discussing the camera but not necessarily for just posting pictures. I have found the camera to take really good pictures of motion.
Here's link to a review of the camera that sets the one against the S4 and iPhone 5.

It's funny how people stress over the smallest differences, and it's amazing how good camera phones have become over the last few years.
I chose the One because I feel it's the most flexible overall due to low-light performance and the ability to better capture motion, but man, all of these cameras are so good, it's crazy to think what we were using just 2 or 3 years ago.
Hmm, i actually found it to be opposite for me - my htc one seems to do very poorly with motion and focuses very slowly. Surprisingly because every literature mentions its good low light performance and fast focus. If you guys can answer a few questions for me, it would allow me to determine if my hardware is defective and i need to exchange for another copy:
1. if you try to focus on a moving object (say a child or a pet), can you consistently get non blurry picture? i find it very hard/slow for the htc one's camera to get focus, so it makes a clear pic of a moving object very hard
2. can you take a picture and have the entire picture be in focus? for me, the lens will only focus on one part of a screen, while other parts will consistently be blurry. by default that's in the center of the picture. it almost seems like you can't do an infinity focus, something needed/preferred for landscape and group pictures. I like the brokah look, just not ALL the time..
Thanks in advance!
1st- I had my kids spinning on a tired swing, not super fast but they were swinging in a circle and spinning and I was able to get consistent focused pictures.
2nd- Yes my camera focus is fine. the HDR mode does tend to wash out in bright light and makes it look a little out of focus.
Note
I also took a series of photos as fast as my finger could click while my daughter was on the tire swing and they all came out in focus, maybe one or two out of focus but I would have to go through them and check more closely.
Hmmm, i'm both happy and sad to hear that your camera seems to work much better. Okay back to AT&T store then!
Thanks!

Digital zoom is bad. I suggest NEVER using it. Crop the picture later if need be.
I guess this would be a decent thread to ask, since we're talking about the camera.
Is the camera software OTA update already included with the AT&T One's latest software, or are we already behind in terms of updates? Also, if our phone doesn't yet have the updated camera software, could we just flash an international stock ROM and get it? International ROMs work with our One this time around, as far as I know.
I believe the update software version is 1.29...mine says 1.26...

You're right. The 1.29 firmware is included in some recent custom roms, though. I have a couple of roms based around that update.
Did you have any noticeable difference?

The latest OTA from AT&T has the same radio as the 1.29 update. Still 1.26 firmware though.
When I take macro shots of documents, the letters are blurry and bad in quality. Taking macro shots of food and flowers comes out okay, but it's just awful when taking photos of black and white paper.
On the pic I attached, the lower right appears to be blurry and light ink. They are actually very dark black letters printed out from a laser printer, so I don't know what's going on.
I have 1.29.401.13 base.
Here's another photo where sides and corners are unusable. This is just horrible... Can't even read the letters any more.
I was comparing the camera vs my s3 and looked at my table with my one and it took this for a picture and my s3 did not do the lines

I tried that, and it just boosts the contrast producing lots of noise, and there are still blurry letters. I think there's something seriously wrong with the camera.

No matter how hard I try, the pictures I take, almost always look washed out. In most of the reviews the camera was praised for colour accuracy and reproduction. I'm not talking about perfectly lit scenarios but more or less like the ones I've posted above. Do you guys leave yours at Auto , Intelligent Auto etc. Whatever tips and tricks you can share I'm sure will greatly benefit the community.
[I know there is a thread regarding the slow shutter and focus but that's not the point over here.]
Cheers !
Mine look as good if not better. I use AI most, normal and manual otherwise. Focus isn't slow for me, shutter speed regarding moving items in less than full blast light are and get blurry easy. Software fixes needed. My still shots are incredibly brilliant and accurate for a smartphone camera.

I personally feel on the stock camera app , the auto ISO is a little bit too sensitive, causing unnecessary noise. I usually set the ISO to 800 (the max it allows in manual control) and the shot turns out significantly better.
Using IA pictures are somewhat better ! . BTW can someone modify the camera to save the settings ? because it always starts on Normal mode !
I used Intelligent Auto for the pics of my Spigen Case, seems to have worked well.
These pics are actually lower quality than the ones on my computer because there was probably some compression done during uploading/
Does anyone know of a way to make the IA setting stick? Every time I leave the camera app I have to mess with settings to get it back. I've tried just hitting the home button and leaving the app open but it reverts. Annoying! !

Too bad the camera app doesn't do auto HDR. Samsung, LG, Motorola, and Apple all can detect blown highlights and automatically enable HDR. Kind of annoying to have to manually switch modes back and forth in 2015. It's something that annoys me about my Nexus 6 as well.
Yeah it is a good feature. Problem with OP2 is HDR shots take a few seconds to process unlike the S6.

I wish more companies would do single exposure HDR like the S6. Loved that HDR photos with the S6 were instant. It requires a top of the line sensor (which the OnePlus 2 has I think) and very smart software processing, which is the tricky part.
I'm not sure that the OP2 has a top notch sensor. It takes v good photos but the S6 is a bit more consistent in the quality of photos it takes.

I think that's mostly because Samsung has perfected their camera software though. After all, it's software that chooses the correct focus, ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and then does noise reduction and color correction on the image. If the software gets any one of those parameters wrong for a given scene, the end result will not be good regardless of how good the sensor is.

That may be right. The Samsung camera app itself is awful but it may be down to the processing software. Whatever it is, the results are consistently good and better than the iPhone 6 plus, which is saying something!!!!

Looks pretty good to me. I don't think it will be anywhere near S6 though. The selfie camera on S6 Edge is unreal. It makes you look better than you actually look in real life which I'm assuming is part software too lol.
Low light ones seem very poor.

Is it just me or do some of the pictures look oversaturated? Especially the one with the red wooden bench.
Compared to the crap that other Nexus devices shot these look quite good. Are they Note 5 quality? No. I don't think they are bad though in the slightest.
Found this 6P photo album on Twitter with a little Googlin'. The VP Eng (Android) @ Google posted this.

Holy crap I enjoyed that. Thanks
that slow mo was sick as hell. I really like nexus phones for their dev support. wish i can get one from Singapore soon
These photos are great. For the bench photo, it was simply focused on the grass instead which is as easy as touching the screen to change focus.

haha that's exactly what my wife kept saying about the G4, the selfie camera on the G4 imo is better than the Moto X Pure and the OPT.
I thought the pictures above were fine.
As long as it's better than the G4 like some reviewers have mentioned I'll be happy
I'm looking at the pictures on my iMac at work and I have the brightness pumped up just to see how good they are... I must say, I'm pretty impressed! I'm not sure what kind of quality you guys are looking for but I suggest you go buy a camera at this point. It's a SMARTPHONE first then somewhere down the line it's a Camera as well. Let's not confuse what we're investing our hard earned money into.
many of the photos that are going to be posted by Googlers will have filters applied im assuming (all stuff that can be done right in the photos app or snapseed). but for point and shoot, i think they are pretty impressive for the stock nexus camera app which usually isn't up to par.
