I'm rooted running stock ics and am looking for an oc kernel. I will consider switching to a custom yet stockish rom in order to accommodate the kernel suggestion.
Please.... I know you've seen this thread before, but I've comed over the development section, searched my ass off, and yes, even Google this.

why are you so desperate for an OC kernel?
what doesn't your phone do with a stock kernel?
Because I want my new note to run as well as my old note, but I don't want to run the same rom.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
no 2 phones are the same; setup your new phone exactly the way your old one was, and see if it works exactly like the first one..
adding an kernel that you can OC is NO GUARANTEE that your phone will run "better"..overclocking often causes issues, and based on a lot of your posts that I have read, you probably should not bother with overclocking at this point..
What post have you read that suggest that I don't need an oc kernel at this point? Why are you so against me over clocking my phone. This is my 3rd note and my first 2 ran a hell of a lot better over clocked. I'm convinced that it makes a difference, so do you have a suggestion for me in regards to a specific kernel?

I'm on stock ICS and I use this kernel. I have never OC'd it though. I only use it for BLN functionality.

if you are on your THIRD note now, I assume its because you have bricked 2 of them?

If you have read so many of my posts why are you assuming anything? It sounds like you haven't read any of my posts. If you had you would know that I've never bricked a phone and both previous phones were sent back for charging port issues. It sounds like you've had a bad morning and are taking it out on me, please don't post unless you have a suggestion.
To the other poster, thank you for your recommendation, I'll look into it now.

I've been on CM9 for about two months and I love it, but I've been hearing good things about AOKP. I used it when it first came out and like it. CM9 was just better at the time. I was just wondering in your opinion what the best kernel to use with it.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Aren't vs threads not allowed? Every phone is different so you just have to try them for yourself.
Also to add, they use the same kernel for the most part

If you don't wanna configure or oc stock

Thanks virus 1x for your 411. I've had n.e.a.k. kernel in my sd card for awhile and never used it. I'm going try it out now. Thanks again for the info.
P.S. this is not a vs thread. Lol
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
First of all to start I haven't needed to flash the kernel cleaning script just wiping the caches worked fine for me. I have tried all three and by far the best is NEAK I usually don't have problems with it. I have undervolted and set it to 200 - 1000 MHz. I'll post a screenshot of my voltage control in a little. Also when you flash NEAK I personally recommend that you take the init.d files out of AOKP and make sure they're in you system/etc/init.d/. I didn't keep the first boot though.

In your title you said "best kernel", by the nature of it, it is a comparison.
If there is "best", there must be a "second best" and there have to be a "least best" or "worst best" or .............. unless there is only ONE and if there is only one, then there is NO NEED to ask which is "best"

This. the only thing that matters.
Only way is to try them and see how they work for your device. But NEAK, and/or SIYAH have been known to cause issues with Brightness and other things.
A comparison thread is a versus thread. Every phone reacts differently for kernels, just like it does for roms. We dont allow "what the best rom" threads either for this very purpose.
Also, as you can see by post #8, these kinds of threads dont last long because of crap like this.
Thread closed.
I apologize for I know that similar threads have been created but the last one is fairly old. I have mostly been running AOKP for the last few weeks but I recently tried out serendipity- I'll say that I do prefer an AOSP style rom over a samsung rom. I do like customization but battery life is a priority to me. Can someone please give some input to what rom/kernal/governors are being used to maximize battery life?
There is no simple answer to this question. All Kernels and ROMs are good - please refer to Entropy's battery drain thread for common issues affecting battery drain.
Some kernels however offer UV ability e.g. Siyah which allows u more flexibility.
Having said this I saw about the same battery life on most of the ICS roms I tried.
I am currently evaluating custom GB roms to see if the battery life is better.
Aokp and fluxxi. Pegasuq governor or something like that. Don't expect any other help from people. Smh

Thank you, I will try the fluxi kernel. I know i'm most likely only to receive an open-ended answer at best. It's just that honestly I have tried different combinations on my own without too much success

Sure that works for you but other kernels/governors are better for other people. That's what we're trying to get at so there's no need for a smh.

just play with them, find one that works best for you and your setup.

Task and ktoons AOKP is a favorite. Works well and is stable. As is lilchris' PhoneBricker. Both are ICS.
Have only used those two, used many kernels, but like the roms, it's up to the user to decide what is best for them.

That's not for the i777. Why don't you open the development section here on xda and read? There are tons of roms to choose from.

That looks like the international GS2, but as for CM... Never run it so I can't tell you if it's stable (from my experience) or not.
However, another good option would be ShoStock. Never run it, but it's got a great following so shoman must be doing something right!
As was said above me, by some random asshat who also has developed a ROM of his own, try taking a look at the development section and reading up a little on the roms available. Also, make a nandroid backup and then give a ROM a try. Give it a week, try other kernels if it seems a bit choppy. Then try another room if you aren't satisfied.
Once you find one you like, supercharge that mofo!

It's for TW ROMs, not AOSP/CM. I asked in his thread if he would create an AOSP/CM version but haven't gotten a response yet.
Ah...sorry. Missed that part. Good luck in the search.
My guess would be no and don't try. You can always ask the developer try a pm see if they respond. What do you need a new kernel for? It usually is a bad idea to screw with the kernel as it can cause major problems if you do something wrong.

Yes but new kernels can often greatly increase battery life and otherwise improve performance while adding features...
I have never really experienced that except with over clocking. And neither of those is a problem in this phone.
