[Q] Weak Vibration Notification - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just got the Note 2 on Friday. Love the phone except for one major issue. Pitifully weak vibration. I have the vibration intensity at the maximum setting but I can barely feel it vibrate. I have it holstered with a belt clip attached to my hip.
My previous phone (Droid Bionic) vibrated like crazy! You definitely knew when an email, appointment, text message, etc. arrived. Is anyone else experiencing this with their Note 2?

I'm noticing the same thing with my Note 2...I'm still searching the board. Did you find anything?

Mine buzzes with the intensity of my wife's lightsaber

It's my theory that vibrations work correctly on stock kernel if you install a 3rd party kernel it messes with vibrations

Denied.
I'm on imnutz kernel and my vibration is just like it was on stock. Was the same on Perseus as well.

Actually went back to stock kernel and vibration is normal. Every phone is different

Some kennels allow you top adjust the intensity so if it was weak then you probably needed to turn it up.

Yeah man. I don't see the correlation between vibration intensity and kernel. You sure something is not messing with your head? hehehe

Vibrate is too weak?

Just bought one but the haptic feedback vibrate when I press the touch key like home button is too weak and keyboard as well.
Any1 have the same issue? Any solution?

Mines exactly the same, prefer it to be softer

As a usar of CM7 on the Atrix, I know it (and some other ROMs for other phones) have the setting of how long the haptic feedback lasts. Take note, what you are experiencing isn't a "week", feedback, it's a short one, as phones don't really have the possibility of calibration in it's strenght.
Maybe future ROMs for the razr will enable this configuration...
My vibrate is weak too, was going to go to Verizon today to see if it is defective.
When a text or call come in it seems more like a fast jiggle than a hard vibrate...also when typing I can barely feel a vibrate at all (it is turned on)
Is this normal?
I see lots complaining about this. Remember the more vibrations it's going to drain battery faster. Personally I never used haptic feedback till now, the softer vibration is nice to me.

I have a feeling thats just how it is cause mine is too. Keep in mind it's a skinny phone!
Mine vibrates well but is a fairly loud noise when vibrating.

Mine seems to have enough vibration feedback, but what doesn't work is the "screen press sound" I called Verizon tech support for the heck of it just to hear what they would say, and told me I could exchange it. Anyone else having this issue?
A lot of this thread has pertained to haptic feedback, but what about regular vibrate notifications when the phone is in silent mode. My phone barely does anything at all. Even when I'm holding it in my hand it barely vibrates compared to the GSII or iPhone.
Is this just the way it is, or is mine defective?
I've literally missed every single call, text, and email that have come in. This is the only thing keeping me from loving this phone, but I have to say, it's a dealbreaker if I can't have the phone in silent mode and still know when something comes in.
I actually prefer the amount of haptic feedback the RAZR provides. I didn't much care for the keyboard feedback, but that was fixed with SwiftKey. Like Bond32 said, less vibration, less battery usage!

App for capacitive buttons ?

on old gingerbread phones without led notifications there used to be a kernel maybe Franco don't recall that had the ability to flash the capacitive buttons. That would be key on our G anyone know if its possible?
from my Nexus7 while my Optimus rests
Bln support. Built into kernel. Then the app will work
the best phone ever
Yes that was it I remember the app and the kernel dependency now if someone would do this lol
from my Nexus7 while my Optimus rests
Crazy enough there is an app that can do it. It's working on mine. You wouldn't expect it to work though but it does. The app if Light Flow. You have to enable the app to control the buttons light. It does work but seems to cause a full wakelock.

From my understanding that only Samsung phones can use bln. But on another note why would you want that when we have a very bright led on the power button?
Edit: while that would look clean with the front buttons for notification that would give some drain battery drain not worth it to me since we already have a led light for notification. While wouldn't be my first choice for the location, they should have done it like the sprint model.

Aside from the side location, the other issues with that notification light are 1) the fact that it only blinks ever 30 seconds or so, with no option to change the frequency, and 2) instead of an RGB LED, apparently LG only put a red one in, thus making it impossible to differentiate between different notifications.
If frequency can be fixed, I'd be happy. Otherwise, getting the capacitive buttons to each indicate a certain notification seems like a great alternative.

There would be so little battery drain you would never notice. Also, if you turn off the red led and only use the front capacitive leds the "drain" would be equaled out. I used BLN before and it is amazing. Would love to see it on the LGOG.

Well I notice it blink every 5-6 seconds for a minute or so. But in a dark or lit room I can see it just fine. Only thing I don't like that it on the side should have been on the front like the sprint model. And still don't see why they made the phone different anyway. Just glad the att model has the sd card slot

Vibration causes some plastic-ish sound?

I just received my HTC one and found out that when it vibrates (opening the app drawer, typing messages...), it kinda gives a plastic-ish sound. Not a very solid vibration. Unlike my EVO 4G LTE, which has a pretty solid vibration. I was wondering if it's just me or it's my phone that doesn't act normal? Thanks
Same here. At first I thought it was because it was laying on my desk but it does it when I hold it as well. Not a big deal but slightly annoying.
I have the same issue. Its not the hugest deal. Its probably due to the type of vibration motor they use in the device. Coming from an iPhone its definitely noticeable because they use such a quiet motor. But overall its not a dealbreaker. Im still loving this phone

Are you talking about the touch sound you can toggle in the "sounds" settings?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
It's the vibration motor rattling the main camera autofocus mechanism. Tap the back of the phone near the camera and you'll hear the same sort of rattle. The camera is meant to take the abuse, so it's annoying at best.
This thread should be kept alive...lol I just noticed the vibration noise discussed here...I'm a bit worried... Or should I not be long term?? Coming from a Samsung S2 SR
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I have noticed this and to put my mind at ease I turned off all the vibration stuff accept when turning on. I flashed Fauxs kernel and turned the vibration to 100% and the sound is greatly reduced. I think it is due to the speed of the vibration motor. At any rate the combination helped greatly. On the down side kinda makes me feel like my phone is cheap

Screen won't turn on after calls

During a call my screen turns off like normal but just recently when it turns off, I can't turn it back on even when pressing the power or home button. There are rare occasions where even when I'm not on the phone, I can't turn the screen on.. It always results in a battery pull then it works fine again. My phone was normal and working perfectly and I haven't done any mods.. Kinda weird, anyone with input on this?
I'm rooted running version 2 Jbomb, 2.3 beastmode kernel, mj4. Could it maybe be these apps that cause this, lux, gravity screen, light flow.. Those are the 3 main apps that are always running.

Sounds like you may have some gremlins. I would do a clean install of your ROM and install those 3 apps 1 at a time checking for the problem to repeat. Joshes ROMs are typically very clean. Could be the Beastmode kernel also.

Nope. Most likely dirt in your proximity sensor. Try blowing real hard in the ear piece or use one if those air cans. Mine does the same and it sounds like a lot of people have the same issue
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I can guarantee it's. Gravity Screen. I use both Lux and Gravity Screen and I'm on a Nexus 4. Google brought me here. I was hoping I'd find something in the gravity screen thread but search isn't picking anyone talking about it.
fwiw I only use it for the Keep Screen On by motion so any the other features are unchecked.
I also use an app called screebl which is more reliable and has been around much longer but I flip between the two.
Screebl also got completely rewritten recently so I'm thinking it's probably the more reliable of the two since it's been around longer.
Aside from that I'm thinking it might be the Running During Call checkbox since it's the only other checkbox checked.
I'd disabled the other settings by moving the sliders to zero (per the developer) and unchecking everything but the 2 checkboxes for keeping screen on by motion-left its slider at 50.
...so either uncheck that ringer checkbox. If that doesn't work it's a bug with the app.
It's inherent to almost any Samsung phone. My SII did it. My S4 did it. My Note 3 does it.
It has to do with the proximity sensor changing too quickly.

Sometimes it cuts both ways, with the rare occasion of the screen not waking up when a call comes in. If you're running deep sleep app, sometimes that can be the culprit. I still use it, though.

Vibration sounds like a car horn - is it normal?

I just got a brand new S2 GT-I9100, but when I set the vibration to high levels it sounds like a car horn or something like that. Also, it's a bit ''metallic'' - there's a tiny split second of ''echo'' when the vibration ends.
Is this normal for S2, after all it is a very thin device so vibration resonance should be very noticeable anyway? Does yours sound similar? When I shake the device nothing rattles inside, so I presume everything sits tight in place.

So, your phone sounds like mine... Do you think it's just our phones, or it's like that on all GT-I9100 devices? Also, was your device sounding like that from the moment you bought it (while it was brand-new)?
Try and change the vibration pattern in the sound menu and see if it changes

It's the same - it only goes away if I lower the vibration intensity to 50% or place the phone upside down and press it against the carpet. A local repair guy told me it's normal for S2, and that his one sounded the same and that there's no point for sending it for repairs. He couldn't show me, he sold it a year ago. Only one guy told me it's not normal, others either can't remember or say it's normal.

Here you go guys, and I'm sorry about the bad quality - only an Huawei Y200 was aceessible to me at the moment. But it's good enough to hear the vibration sound. Replace "(dot)" with "."
