Don't use Kies, use Odin, it's far less temperamental. Just download th XWKE2 firmware from samfirmware.com and flash in the PDA section of Odin

Wow, that's a hell of a long time, leave it to download overnight? Mine took a while but only because it's a big file and it certainly didn't take a day! I'm sorry I don't know anywhere else to get stock firmware from apart from Samfirmware.com and the god awful Kies...
Its not posted on here by any chance using a different upload service .

I have installed an unsecure kernel in my galaxy s2 (GT I9100G) but since I cannot find the original stock kernel, I wanted to roll back to the stock android version that came with s2 and thus wanted to know how could I re-install the firmware from KIES.
Thanks

You need to reflash stock using ODIN before you can use kies, as Kies doesn't recognise custom kernels.

Will reflashing bring back the stock kernel and make the phone unrooted in short make it the way Samsung sold it to me?
Also, I am using Galaxy S2 I9100G build number GINGERBREAD.XWKJ2 and for it only 1 unsecured kernel was available at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327509
I rooted my phone without any problem but since there's no way to get back the stock kernel, I am afraid that if need be, how am I gonna claim warranty for my device.

Yes aslong as you flash the firmware that came with it t will be like as samsung sold it. Have a look at intratech's thread he may just have the kernel if you still have the original firmware on it already.

Yes, I do have the original firmware on it. Didn't have enough guts to play with custom ROM :/
I did check intratech's thread and found stock kernel for XWKJ2 but the thread titles says "Official i9100 Firmwares" whereas my phone shows i9100G. I guess this won't work.
And, when flashing to original firmware, will the kernel's be replaced to the original one's as well?
Thanks for suck quick replies Am just a n00b diving into Android
You can extract the original kernel yourself if you want it http://www.hotfile.com/dl/136857418/c144909/I9100GXWKJ2_I9100GODDKJ2_INU.zip.html

Thanks for your help
BTW, is there a way to get the latest available firmware in my country/region via KIES so that I can be 100% sure of being in right place
i cant post the link right now but you can google

and go the the dialandroid website they have a way to make it like original again
I have a problem with my S2 phone.
Last week the official ICS was available in Norway, and I wanted to check it out.
But when I download it, it stops installing at 11%.
I have downloaded and installed the firmware for my phone, but still didn't work.
Anyone have had any similar problems with the new update?

Hello arni3, maybe you chose the wrong firmware or did something wrong on the way.
Are you still able to enter download mode ?
If Yes, follow this tutorial on how to Unroot/unbrick your Galaxy S2 to ICS.
Link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gixh_q6B_bU
If No, your phone is bricked. I suggest you bring it to Samsung.

Hello, thanks for your answer.
I have been watching that video now and it tells me to download ICS stock ROM. Is the stock ROM different from phone to phone or is it the same which one I get? I live in Norway, Europe.
Thanks!
1: if your phone says i9100 under battery, go get another rom i say la2/la4 and flash again using odin.
2: read again where to put the file.
3: if u got i9100G ur flashing wrong firmware. u need to fix that issue now.
all this if u can get download mode

Sorry for being unclear, but I meant:
I have installed new firmware to 2.3.5 (had ress ICS earlier). that works, but when I try to install the official ICS through Wi-fi, it stops after 11% and gives me a message that it couldn't complete the update.

Arni I live in Norway too and i think is that firmware that is maybe wrong ! How did u manage to unpack it anyway ? Tried 7zip and on my mac unzip, that archive has errors. odin refuses to accept it after md5 check. so something must be wrong there ...
downloaded it like 5 times. impossible to unpack with 7unzip in windows, only in mac it unzips but ..the rest is dead

Hi there,
Am on a Nexus S, but just got my son an S2 thats got Ginger Bread. The base band of the phone is I9100XXKI4. Can some one please tell me:
a) if an official update to ICS is available?
b) if yes, how do I get it?
c) if no, which is the easiest and safest way to root the phone to have an ICS ROM? Have read a little and the thing is that some write ups makes me fear the odin. Is there some other way? Is the odin route safe? Is the root retained?
Thanks
Yes Odin is safe
Yes official ics is out, but it's not like what you have it's like what he already has.
You have to flash cm9 to get pure ics look and feel.
Read how to use Odin, cwm and cfroot. those three things will get you there.

odin is your only way to root your mobile without proplems , just read the instructions carfully and all will be fine
these are the official updates, but they dont have Arabic
Samsung ICS Official Rom's
How to flash.
- Open ODIN.
- Select CODE / MODEM / CSC.
- Put phone in download mode. (HOME - VOLUMN DOWN - LOCK)
- Connect phone with cable. Push start (Wait till phone reboot on Android start screen!)
for a custom rom i insist you use (include full arabic) d4-rom or hydrog3n
if you want to use a custom you must first get cwm
to do this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1103399
this is where you can download it plus the guide to install it
- Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot

hi everyone!
would really appreciate some clear advice on how to unroot sgs3 i9300 on vodafone.ive looked on the forums and im jus confused and i just dont understand.yes a noob.all this talk bout flash counters roms i just given up almost.
i got fone rooted already from a friend.they wrote down what actually was done.
cf root 6. something was used via odia 1.85 on pc.
i have jelly bean 4.1 xxdlih running but it says modified and ota wont wrk? i connect to kies and it says up to date.
am i on a stock rom? or is it custom? sorry ive been getting all this from the forums just not sure.
if a new official firmware was released i could update through kies? without problems? and return phone to normal?
would this cwm cf root cause problem when eventually updating through kies as i have modified status on phone? is flash counter increased?not sure again.
would ota start working? read somewhere people still get ota. but i dont. i knw there isnt a firmware available but it says modified so stopping future updates? i jus want fone normal.i knw benefits of rooted as i been reading up last 5days but i dont need them.
i looked on sammobile and the latest official i see is for my fone xxdlih? thats what i have?
there option in supersu to remove root? what would happen if did that? i guess it would unroot but would phone still be modified status? or return to normal? ota would be working again?
i think that most of it.thanks to anyone who can jus clear things up in a basic way for me.thanks!!!!
just flash the latest stock rom - XXDLJ4 I think.
Download from sammobiole and flash with ODIN.
There's tutorials on here on how to use ODIN.
Root etc. will be removed.

hi mike thanks for the quick reply.i jus looked it up and i have to be in download mode with usb debugg ticked on phone right? i looked on sammobile its xxdlih for my fone which is what im on.sorry if im not getting it.do i flash the same one again? thanks again man!
No problem
I suggested XXDLJ4 as this is the latest official unbranded JB firmware for the UK.
Flashing this would mean you wouldnt have to update OTA or Kies once youve unrooted.
You can flash XXDLIH if you want, you would then get an OTA to upgrade to XXDLJ4 (or similar).
Yes, make sure you're in download mode / usb debugging on to use ODIN.
Make sure 'repartition' is NOT ticked and all should be good.
EDIT - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911726 for guides on using ODIN.

I cant really find the thread with the new fix for jelly bean 4.3 I went back in the threads
until nov 25.
could u show me where it is?
General forum, at the top are sticky threads, 4.3 discussion, is the one you are looking for.
Be careful, it's very easy to brick your phone with impatience.
Also, no-one has posted the update zip so you are looking at flashing a custom Rom and voiding your warranty if you want it really bad.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
I did try to flash my rom before without problems, but after I install jelly bean 4.3 the other day with Odin
I did try to root my phone afterwards, but I cant connect to Odin in download mode, I have read everything in google, what to do and nothing works so i give up that part.
thats why I just want the update.zip because I dont know when OTA will release it on my phone, and I get crazy of the issues the 4.3 has.
I just thought the update was released as a file, so I could use Odin to update it, because I read that.
If your ask was for an update from OTA in zip format then the answer is no .
But as you dont give any details of this fix then i may be wrong .
All the 4.3 information is posted including a repacked flash-able dump .

jelly bean 4.3 samsung push out was suspended, coz of huge errors in it,
they made a update fix and that one I would like to install, so I can get rid of the big errors in jelly bean 4.3.
but I guess I just wait for OTA to update my S3
I've installed just the updated kernel from MK6, which fixes 95% of the problems with 4.3

thx a lot, the problem I have now is I cant connect to Odin in download mode. its a known problem in the forums. this jelly bean 4.3 have ruin that feature, coz the way I install 4.3 was throgh Odin and no problem, so I know the problem is at my phone.
coz I try several pcs and cables, and reinstall drivers, no need to tell all, coz its everywhere. and there is many ppl out there, who have same problem and they gave up, its a shame.
Mobile Odin. Or flash a stock Rom through cwm/trwp in a zip format. You didn't say if you want it bk to stock or not.

4.3 does not break download mode, use odin to flash rooted rom. If it won't connect then you have some other issue, most likely your pc. Search and learn how to fix it.
