[Q] Is anyone working on a JB rom for Thunderbolt? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Love the work here, just wondering if anyone is working on a JB rom for Thunderbolt as I haven't seen anything. If not why not if you don't mind me asking? Is it because there just isn't enough people interested in this phone anymore?
Thanks!!

This will probably never happen. JB is a 5th gen android OS and is designed exclusively for modern hardware, such as multi-core processors, discrete graphics hardware, etc. It's like trying to put Windows 8 on your TB, it just aint gonna happen. The amount of hacking and downgrading required to do it would make it no better than ICS, so you might as well run an ICS rom.

There are several developers working on JB for the T'Bolt with varying degrees of success, so far no "daily driver" has surfaced.
Keep watching the Android Development section and use Google to look around elsewhere.

Except for the part where I'm running JB on my OG Incredible which is even older than the Bolt.

Reason why you can run it on your dinc is because it doesn't have 4g plus it doesn't have the crappy ril that we have that keeps us from having a fully working Ics/jb rom to begin with.

It may make it difficult, but the main thing holding back jb development will most likely be lack of development. With the ability to modify the system and kernel, jb should very well be doable.

Its not doable because the bolt has a unique ril and if we don't get an official release from HTC. It will be plagued with problems just like liquids ics rooms with data drops and so on. No other phone uses a ril like the bolt does. This phone puts up so many obstacles until its not funny. Plus liquids ril was a fluke to make it work like they did.

There is barely a daily driver version of ICS out for the TBolt. I sincerely there will be a JB version that doesn't suffer from data drops and other calamities.

There are multiple daily drivers with ICS.
First, I'll acknowledge the fact that all T'bolts are different but on mine I have used the original BAMF leak, NuSense and a few others as daily drivers. I've had problems with battery life on all of them but I have problems with battery life on ALL T'bolt ROMs, ICS just makes it a little bit worse.
None have data drops or other calamities on my phone, if yours does it may very well be your phone, not the ROM.

The data drops comment is more for the liquid/twisted ICS asop builds that had to have a ril hacked together just to get data to work. Twisted has worked on this ril and has made the data drops less frequent than the earlier builds. Reason why you don't have data drops from the leak and nusense is because the ril was done by HTC to work. So no the data drops isn't because of peoples phones but hacked together software that is still being tested abf modified. I run twisted build and get drops and if I run nu sense I don't get drops.

CM7.2 vs. CM9 -- Your thoughts?

I've been using CM9 for 4-5 weeks now, and I like it. It's nearly perfect, but the rotation and camera bugs aren't exactly deal breakers for me, though I would like to have full use of my phone. CM9 just got an update, but CM7.2 is updated almost daily, and I suppose everything works due to the Gingerbread drivers being available. Plus, Gingerbread uses fewer resources. It's not overclocked, but I imagine in running at 1GHz it gets better battery life.
So just wondering what the Photon/Electrify users think, and a poll for nice statistics.
I was using cm9 as my daily for many months. When the newness wore off I started experimenting with other roms including cm7. And I must stay, after using cm7, cm9 seems to feel very sloppy and forced. This is no fault of joker, just the current tools he is given. Cm7 is absolutely a dream and is leaps and bounds more customizable than cm9 in its current iteration. You'll find that everything works without flaw and that battery is much better. All in all, if you need to be on the bleeding edge, run cm9. If you want full functionality and everything to just work, run cm7.

Thanks for the input. That's all very helpful. I love the hell outta ICS/CM9 and I have it set up nice, but I'm going on vacation in a couple months, and, while I'd like to show off ICS, stability and fluidity will be more important, as well as battery life.
And no, I don't wanna knock Joker either, he does great work, I'm just not sure if I'm a bleeding edge kind of guy. Part of me is (the whole geek thing) but another part of me wants something that just works. I'll get something that's risky and cool (Paranoid Android in tablet mode, for example) and then I'll go back to something safe. Actually using Paranoid Android in phone mode right now. I like the centered (yes, iPhone-like) clock.
I like CM9 but the camera stuff is a deal breaker for me. I've used the CM7/2.3.5 hybrid from peetr. It's smooth, fast, battery-sipping, and wonderful. I love the 1080p video camera. I tried overclocking it (you can do that with CM7 roms, by the way), but I didn't really notice a difference in speed, and it seems just a bit unstable. I think the biggest difference people notice in speed with overclocking, other than benchmarks, is the fact that they don't have a bunch of apps and settings slowing their phone down when they first load a new ROM, so of course it seems faster than what they were just working with.

Jellybean will be less stable than cm9 and hellaless stable than cm7 for a while. Try to remember that it's taken joker months of hard work to make cm9 this stable on a gingerbread kernel and components from other devices. Jellybean is exciting, but it's a generally small update that is meant to fix bugs and introduce a couple new apps. The problems we have with cm9 (lack of libs, kernel) will still exist.

I'm pretty sure Butter will require working drivers to work properly, so as excited as I am to see a JB port to our Photons, I doubt it'll be nearly as smooth as it seems until we get proper drivers =/.
I'm currently on CM 7.2 and loving it, but will move over to CM9 once we get some leaked drivers/kernel from Motorola. Joker does some great work, and it's impressive to see how much is working on ICS without those bits from Moto.
I agree. I am using Cm7 because it is stable. I really like Cm7 but am ready to move back to a more stable CM9.
I love both ROMs, but after using AOKP i can't go back to a GB ROM
What does AOKP have over CM9?

[Q] Giving up on ICS

Was gonna wait for the official ICS update for the thunderbolt but after 4months and numerous rumors not panning out im going to root and flash a rom any suggestions for the best daily driver ????
But browsing and reading up a little but still confused on whats available??? Would love to try jelly bean but i can settle for ICS
Battery life, speed and stability are the important points for a daily driver
Whats you suggestions????
I know I'm gonna regret it as soon as i root and flash the official update will probably come out but i remember when i first rooted my OG droid I never went back so what you guys suggest??? also next upgrade will probably be taking the nexus 4 to straight talk but wanna get a few more months out of my Thunderbolt u would think HTC would want to keep the customers that run out and bought the first 4G device but i guess all they really care about is our money.

If you're looking for an ICS build there really is no amazing one yet, but Liquid's is the best you will find with Nusense a close second. My personal recommendation for a daily driver though is Thundershed, or any of the roms from reds. I am running ikream nosense and enjoy it a bit. There is also the sense based offering of it both are pretty nice. Depending on what rom you go with there are kernels and things like that to pick up from there.
If you want something bug free i recommend Skyraider zeus 1.3. Thats what im using with the lean kernel. Its very smooth. Plus there is a sweet ics theme for it. Throw in halo launcher aswell and you pretty much have the complete look and feel of ics and bug free. Everything works perfect on this rom

As was I. I just assumed my phone had aids though since it sees to work quite well for a lot of users
Proving again that all Thunderbolts are different, don't know why, but each responds differently to different ROMS.
To the OP, remember! Flashing is cheap, don't hesitate to try several ROMs before deciding on one you like.
I lean toward the NuSense but battery life isn't quite what I need... <sigh>
Another hearty recommendation for SkyRaider 1.3.
I've been evaluating lots of other ROMs and radio combos. Nothing has been as solid a daily driver as SkyRaider Zeus.
I'm really working at using Twisted's AOKP ICS, but my Bolt doesn't love it. I keep getting data hangs, and have to reset the radios via Airplane mode off/on.
And the leaked Sense ICS was way too battery hungry for me.

LiquidSmooth 3.2:good: with the .19 radio. It has been my daily driver for almost a year now. Way better than any current ICS rom for the mecha. No problems, everything works. And it all works plenty fast enough.
If you really want a solid ROM with everything working great, Sky Raider is excellent. Especially since I like having a good camera and video camera. Nice to have everything work perfectly. I love AOSP, it is very fast, but you don't get the same functionality (dont get me wrong it is very close, but small things like camera are just not quite as good) you do with Sense. I hate sense but skyraider really is a great ROM

I sent you a private message with the link. Not sure if I am allowed to post it in the forum. If anyone else needs it just PM me.
You should check out Twisted's new rom. I haven't had any problems with it and it's the smoothest rom I've had in awhile.
So can anyone give me a rundown on the differences on these ROM's? I've seen Liquid 3.2, Thundershed, and Skyraider mentioned here. Which are Sense based and which are AOSP. Are the Sense based Rom's laggy? I've tried NuSense, and it was a nice ROM, but just too laggy for my taste. I've tried Jesters and Twisted's 11-7 version of Liquids ICS ROM, and they've been great, but I'm having too many bluetooth issues which will interfere with work so it's a no go if I can't simply turn on the bluetooth and let it connect.
I understand flashing is supposed to be quick and easy so just try them all, but it seems to take me several hours to get everything backed up, flashed, and put back the way I like it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have only used LiquidSmooth 3.2. It is a Gingerbread AOSP. Any Sense ROM tends to be very laggy on either of my Thunderbolts. And all of the ICS ROM's seem to have at least one problem or another that keeps it from being my daily driver(bluetooth, wifi, camera or camcorder especially!)
It all depends on what you can and can't live without on a DD. Most of the Gingerbread ROMS's shouldn't have many, if any, issues. Some may be slightly slower than others and look different but all should make a good DD. The current ICS ROM's for the mecha are extremely fast, but usually lack in the camcorder or wifi department.
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905083 has most of the ROM's linked(except LiquidSmooth3.2 Not sure why all the links to it were removed, Liquid is the Man tho and gotta respect his decision)

I hate hate hate hate HTC sense! I want a stock launcher and all the "nonsense" off my Rezound. What Rom is my best solution without giving up any functionality of the device. I don't want crappy signal and intermittent data I've been getting from asop. I also would like the ability to WiFi tether. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well honestly, either way you go, senseless or AOSP, your gonna run into some bugs. This is because AOSP is only about 92% stable. The problems in a Sense based rom that has been desensed may be an issue. I can't give you a list of bugs you would see, but basically they would be there. When a rom is desensed, some key elements of the rom are removed. When these things get removed bugs appear. Your not gonna find a perfect rom, but if you can deal with a couple bugs here and there, then I am positive you will find plenty of good roms on the forums.
since when does aosp have reception problems.
SlimKANG 2.1 for my favorite "senseless." I bounce between that and EclipticRez, but SK 2.1 has no issues that are not by design that I notice.
Awesome, then I know what to try and what to look for. My 5th droid 3 died and the 12mo warranty was up. I had to buy another phone and HTC makes solid phones and this had great specs. This phone was $200 and in excellent condition and couldn't pass it up. I figured I'd just flash aosp, but the phone came with cm9 and data was in and out never stable, dropped calls, and signal sucked. Flashed latest original RUU and now I want to S-OFF and go sensless.

Adrenaline 2.0. Neo is a fantastic dev, and a great guy. He answers questions about his work no matter how basic, and will help you with any problems. Also, Dragonstalker's Rezone Redux is an awesome Senseless rom. To be honest, there isn't a single bad senseless rom out there. The dev community here has those whipped.
Make sure that you aren't using the wrong network settings with CM9, most of the people with data issues that I helped straighten out, actually caused their data issues without realizing it. The AOSP network settings are slightly different from what you would use on sense. If I remember correctly it's the second and fourth options that you use. Somebody running AOSP will need to confirm that though.

Need a stable ics rom

OK guys, I have finally gotten approval from my wife to root her rezound because she is on her 6th one and having issues. She has been saying no to rooting BC of small bugs in the roms I run.
Now that I have the approval, what is the most stable ics rom out? She likes sense mainly for the picture upload to Facebook. We both had cm7 for the Aria and she liked it... But I think that was because it was so stable. JB is out of the question because she takes/watches videos of/with our son everyday.
I haven't ran a sense rom in about six months now so I don't if the performance and battery life has gotten better either.
Thanks.

I am not too worried about the overheating because I am sure it only happens when she is on it for long periods. She hasn't said anything about it always doing it.

To get to t2 right away just tell them that you've done battery pull, factory reset etc. Make sure that you get the point across to them that the phone is having hardware issues that cannot be resolved. You could be more dramatic about the over heating issue and they will take that seriously, as sadly is is a widespread known issue with the Rezzy. Chances are you will be able to get to Tier 2 within 5 minutes and another CLNR Rezound will be sent out to you.

Tbh I would be calling Verizon again to get another replacement... Since those all seem to be hardware related issues, especially the overheating.

Mine is running to 55 degree celscius last day. Im with venomrez 1.0.3
Sent From Rezound S-off rooted VenomRez ROM
Don't mess with the other roms. Just go with venom Rom. There's a reason it hasn't been updated in a year. Not a single bug, issue, or anything. The Rom is perfect. And if you use the developers kernel also (bamf kernel), you'll get about 40% bump in battery life
Trust me. Start with venom.

Is that a sense rom?

Can't go wrong with Ineffabilis Deus v1.2 if you want a Sense 3.6 rom (same as stock for the WAF). You do need to install the global RUU with it to update to the latest firmware but that's common with a lot of roms now.
Venom is Sense 4 based and also a good rom.

+1
I put that on my Wife's Rez because she uses it for her business calls and she needed something super stable. She's been using it for months and has not had a complaint about it. She tethers to her laptop when she's out at meetings and loves it! Nils is the Man!

ViperRez?

Haven't seen any update from joelz in a couple months. No update on Team Venom site either.
Anyone hear anything?
Joelz you still working on this?
From what I heard, most of the team moved to developing ViperRom for the HTC ONE X. It's a good bet they're either focusing on the HTC DNA or the ONE now.

ViperRez was my favorite ICS ROM. But I like Jelly Bean now. And puppies!
Viperrez is still the best ROM out. All the jellybean ROMs have serious bugs

I'm running Infection 2.5 as a daily driver and have very few issues with it. When's the last time you visited the JB ROMs? Even camera and video playback is fixed now.
I heard some rumors about that, but couldn't find any hard evidence. It looked like they were even testing a beta version. And then nothing... I hoped they would at least be more forthcoming about ditching the Rezound if that's what really happened.

Last version I tried was 2.3, but I've been following the threads and it still seems like people are having issues. I heard camera was still messed up. I just can't go to grab my phone and have core functionality not work. I ,might give it a try again soon...but I'll be honest. I think I like sense better than aosp. Never thought I'd say that.
That's really the reason viperrez is so great. Its the most stable non-stock ROM I've ever used. I haven't had a bug in over a year of running it and it offers better features and battery life than stock. There is no reason to not be running it.

ViperRez had no support after its initial release. After about 8 months of empty promises of an update they finally closed the thread and were supposedly going to reopen it when the update was ready. But of course it never came and the closing of the thread was the final nail in the coffin.
Try EclipticRez. It's fantastic. Smooth and the support is awesome. New version just came out last week.
Team Venom is on the One and DNA
They ditched it as soon as the next Verizon HTC device came out and do what he said eclipticrez is way better than viperrez hands down

Well for starters it's is: actually being updated, HDMI out is supposed to work (haven't tried yet though), comes preloaded with all snuzzo's kernels, super smooth, almost all themes from viper rez work, I get great battery life with it

Those r 2 different days
I use lunar kernel which is sense 4 optimized

the only, and i mean ONLY thing viperRez has over ecliptic rez is the visual customization: icons, sense colors, statusbar, etc
also consider that everything sense on viperRez is downscaled to qHD (it really shows in the music app, for example).
Better support all around.
Also, Joelz DID update the rom, but it's in eternal beta and you have to get his permission from the viperRom forums or something
