Let me start by saying, i'm running stock untouched, unrooted, i turned it on and installed apps from the market, version of Gt10.1. It is the 32Gb version and came with 3.1 on it.
I've had my Gt10.1 for almost a week now and I must say that I'm stunned at the frequency of FC errors from various apps. I mean even my "Samsung Account" force closes after each restart.
Anyone else noticed that the screen isn't calibrated correctly. Seems I have to touch to the right of what I intend to select. This is particularly noticeable when selecting text in the browser or in text editors such as this app.
Should I reset to factory?
A lot of apps that work just find on my Epic4G are unstable or not available ... like where is facebook???? And how come nearly every game is either buggy or not available... EA games are just unsupported?
Is there a place anywhere that filters the marketplace by supported os version ? I.e. what is proven to work on HC 3.1

Facebook has been pulled from the tablet market for a while.
The samsung force close is on every tablet I think after reboot
I'd try resetting and see if that helps with the force closes and the screen inaccuracy. Maybe try not loading every app you had before. If that doesn't work, take it back to where you bought it and see if you can get an exchange.
Yeah its disgracefull that samsung have released the tab with so many bugs. Im writing this now on my tab and the text cant even keep up with my typing...the whole gt 10.1 is an unpleasant experience, the amount of force closes is staggering and unaceptable. theres no filterin the market to show only tab apps, it gives off a high pitch noise after every selection from the speakers, theres no predictive text input, the video play back its utter crap, why dont the home buttons auto hide to give more screen space, reading books is awfull due to each page being out of focus for a split second before being displayed properly. Theres people with dust under the screen, oh and the batteru life is in my opinion well below stated. and last but definately not least yeah it does flash in websites but not 100% some sites work and some are awfull,,,,

I feel for u. I've resolved the laggy keyboard by sticking with either the Android keyboard or Thumb keyboard. Both perform excellently. My experience has been that hidden home buttons seem to be a per app behavior. Example. Kindle app does it beautifully. I also have not experienced the out of focus issue. The video / screen rendering is unparalleled. Ive only experienced poor battery stats when I'm streaming from a weak wifi connection.. like being tethered to my phone running 3g 3bars or less.

-There is a problem with the way the stock browser handles text selection in web fields, it's probably related to some of the JavaScript problems the browser has. Until it gets patched a workaround is to use the Opera web browser.
-There are a few lists that people have compiled of HC optimized apps and games: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032381
@richie_jones:
-Turn off audible selection under settings>sound
-The default Samsung keyboard has XT9 predictive text, but you have to go into settings to enable it first. There are also numerous alternative keyboards to use if you don't like that keyboard.
-Video playback is very good on the tab. But like every tablet on the market you should convert your video to mp4 first for optimum results, or use an alternate video player such as MoboPlayer, Rock Player, Vplayer etc. If you don't know how to covert video files then check this thread for some simple instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060825

Yeah I believe the samsung force close is caused by an authentication issue on the samsung account. I looked in log with aLogCat after a force close (they always come at boot and always twice) and there was an exception logged from the samsung account app.
This happens when connected to a wifi network and also when not connected. Whatever causes it to bw unable to authenticate, the Samsung Account app certainly doesnt handle that condition well.
And finally, you think Samsung would have caught this one....
I took my Tab 10.1 back and got a Tab 7" instead. Honeycomb has a long way to go really, and all the issues the OP had I can attest to. Hardware was nice, slim and tight but given the software issues I couldn't justify the $500 tag when a 7" tab was going for $200 brand new. Very happy with my decision.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk
I reset to default and everything works perfectly now... the text SLOWNESS is limited to the default browser app.. I use either Opera or Dolphin now.
My only gripe now is with Samsungs advertisement or shall I say FALSE advertisement... this is not the tab they advertise. It does not have touchwiz, mini apps or Media Hub support

Smooth it definitely is not"..."
no lag with he screens. Keyboard lag yes. Otherwise its running nice. It is a leaked tw rom that has been modified. I expect a custom rom based on the official release in a couple days.
Curious if any other note owners have the same issue with the auto fit to screen in the browser. There is absolutely no change whether on or off. Again that's the fit to screen option in the browser not working. Thanks
Same issue with me. Quite disappointed.

Thanks for the reply, only found two bugs so far. The previous mentioned above and some text issues hoping the release of ics addresses these problems. I left sprint for this phone with 4 early termination fees, AT&T don't make me go back.. Sad thing is regardless of which browser I use nothing seems to fix the auto fit.
Sad if a minor browser issue makes you change carriers.
The stock android browser sucks. Miren is flawless

No the browser issue isn't enough for me to leave. as far a rooting I'm waiting out the 30 trial just to be cautious. After that I'll create a tar ball recovery file via odin, and begin to mess around with some of the system files.
The first thing on my list is a custom themed dialer activity tab, not a huge fan of the stock dial pad from Samsung,, but I do love the phone..
Here's how I do it on mine..
Start off in Portrait position.
bring up the web page with your stock browser..
then either double tap on it or pinch zoom it a bit..(if not an m.mobile web page)
then rotate to landscape position..
BAM.. the 'auto-fit' kicks in..
I believe it works visa-verse too..
I always start in portrait then rotate to landscape.
it works for me.. good luck
ps.. if this works for you... hit me with a 'thanks' button..
That worked but every time you resize by pinching you have to keep rotating it so it kicks in again, that is definitely a bug.
To funny,, your right it works if you keep rotating. Oh well Samsung just wants to insure we get lots of hands on and interaction with the phone.
Ditto here it works fine. You just need to check mark auto fit web page in browser settings.

Ok so I tried the double tapping and that works as well but since the text still looked small I adjusted the default zoom in browser settings and much better.
I have a Galaxy S II (T-989) and use Dolphin HD Browser and it seems to work great on my device. Might be worth giving a shot on the note.
I just ordered a Note so I'm pre-troubleshooting so I know what issues to look out for and how to solve them when it comes in
Works fine for me in opera
This is the first phone that has given me this issue. If im watching a web video or Youtube video via any web browser, the screen will dim and then timeout like normal. On my OG Evo and Photon the phone would know im watching a video and not timeout. Anyone else notice this and/or know a solution besides turning my screen timeout off completely?

You could use Tasker to have a profile that disables the screen time out when running YouTube or web browsers and then have it re-enable the timeout when you exit the app. I use Tasker for a lot of the things that I have issues and quirks with.

Hey there, was trying out the multitasking on the phone and am experiencing RAM shortage? 2GB would have been great, but as I had the GSII I know that there is a lot more capability with 1GB..
On my GSII I could run more apps in the background than now. With the GSIII I can only have 3 apps working at the same time?! Everything keeps refreshing.. the browser, the launcher etc. Even the music stops sometimes while multitasking...
Anyone facing the same issue?

Some useful hints and tips on closing/removing apps. I personally just disabled them, made the mistake of removing some core ones from my GNex and made a right royal mess.
Good luck, let us know how you get on. :good:
Thank you for the useful thread you posted, but I didn't have to remove bloatware on my gsII to multitask? Even though I did remove it after a while it still worked before doing anything. I just can't imagine Samsung will ship a phone, where you have to remove apps to multitask properly?
So you can run more than 4 apps in the task manager?
Sad we in Europe didn't get the choice like in the U.S.between the two versions. As I feel the RAM would have been more future proof..
But putting this aside, I'm really impressed what they have packed into the touchwiz out of the box ! I don't even feel like rooting and flashing, because everything is running just fine.
As I know myself I'll find myself fondling around pretty soon, because Iknow the potential of xda
Just am facing this issue, which is really bugging me atm.

I've got about 10 apps so far showing when I press the task manager button, no signs of lag so far for me.
Memory usage for me is 644Mb out of 779Mb.
Can't think of anything preventing you from opening more than 4 apps on the go.
No that thing you are seeing is the recent apps menu! That is just a chronology of what you opened recently and is no real time multitasking! In that menu you have to press "task-manager". There you'll see the apps which are truly running
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
Yeah, I did say I pressed the Task Manager button, maybe I should'be been more clear on what I pressed and where it took me.
Anyways, I've attached a picture to clarify that I had at least 10 apps running.
You didn't tweak around the Developer options have you by any chance? Near the end of the list there is a section that says Limit background processes, mine has Standard limit, if clicked, options include No background processes, 1,2,3,4 processes at most.
If it's not that, then I'm out of ideas.
I don't own the sg3 (plan on buying one soon), but I know that in ICS there is an option in settings under developer options where you can set the number of apps allowed to run in the background.
Worth a shot.
Gold luck.

I also face this problem of all webpages reloading all the time after switching apps.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
That happens when your phone runs out of memory, are you sure you're not running too many background apps?
Browsers are huge memory hogs, so it's not really surprising when you run 2 at the same time, but it all depends on the amount of open tabs and the webpages within.
The same "issue" appears on S2 (Stock an CM9) and with somewhat heavier usage on the Note.
no issues at all 1gb is perfect i dont need more

Hey guys I'm back ..
Now I can open more apps simultaneously, but around after a minute everything closes down. They don't stay on they just close after a while..
I don't know what the reason is, but could you check and open a few apps? Then just look after a minute or so if they close down .

Some tips to help your battery maintain longer.
1) Turn off Google Now: tap google search or hold menu button>Settings(menu button)>Google Now OFF
2) Disable anything related to GPS/location access. Especially in maps, go to settings and uncheck auto check ins also clearing location history.
3) Download greenify from app store. (need root access).
I hope this helps!

Activating Now usually triggers the location reporting settings in maps/latitude. If you go back into the location settings in maps, and disable updating your location, automatic check ins, and even location history, then you can use now with very little noticeable battery impact. In fact, go into the app info for maps, and disable the notifications check box too, I've heard that helps relieve map wakelocks.

the T-mobile JB version is freaking wrong.
change to Canadian version 21b to save the life and battery
I haven't seen the poor performance or battery life yet.
I picked this phone up for my mom, set it up and shut off all the settings I know cause wakelocks, and decided to leave it uprooted on the stock 4.1.2 Tmobile firmware because it was running quite well.
So far she's been getting well over 15 hours on battery, with a couple hours of screen on time, with a little less than 50% battery left. That's damn good battery life! But then, she doesn't clog her phone up with a bunch of useless apps that she doesn't actually use, or try to play gpu intensive games. She just calls, texts, surfs, checks Facebook and uses maps and navigation.

This up here is very important to stop gps wakelocks, if you don't disable those settings, latitude and now check your location every 15 minutes or so. I also disable any cards in now that I'm not interested in. I don't find the traffic ones that useful, for instance, and I don't care about nearby anything. I live here, I know what's nearby!
I also use the built in ability in jelly bean to disable system apps, and I get rid of anything I don't actively use. Stuff like play magazines, books, music (I'm not a fan of Googles music player), and Tmobile bloatware, especially stuff like the "my account" app that runs in the notification shade. Anything that's going to be updating on its own is going to cause wakelocks. I left Facebook on my mom's phone, but on mine I actually check Facebook and G+ using the browser, since those two apps are resource hogs.
I leave gps on, blue tooth on, 4g on, and still had great battery life, but I also tried to keep the screen brightness at the lowest it needed to be, and I don't use auto brightness.
Lastly (this has nothing to do with battery, but helps with lag) I go into developer settings and set all the animation scales from 1x to .5x. This makes the phone SEEM snappier due to the quicker animation speed, but also the phone seems to have less I/O stutter when rapidly swiping screens or doing other window animations.
Ok, actual last piece of advice; be picky with what apps you keep on your phone, don't hoard them! If you end up not using something, delete it! Don't waste space and increase memory read times by clogging your phone with useless stuff. Keep it lean.

Auto brightness is in JB, it would be weird if the L9 didn't have it. I don't have my mom's phone nearby, but go into settings, then display, and see if there's an auto brightness checkbox. I hate auto brightness, and auto rotate. It's always changing too easily, and for little reason.

It's a good phone, that's a superfluous sensor. The specs for flagship phones have exploded, which makes this a lower end phone, but that doesn't mean it doesn't perform just fine. Androids not optimized for quad core processors yet anyway.
greenify is best option to save battery juice.

Maybe this could work trough camera (but probably not so battery friendly). It's stupid that there is no video calling trough 3g and front camera is useless (very poor/dark picture quality) anyway. I also missing volume control for media, notification and ringtones on volume keys(it's only system volume) and original JB battery consumption info(current graf is useless). But yes,it's a OK phone.

L9 CM10.1 suffers from wlan_rx_wake kernel wakelock. The WiFi chip is somehow configured that it wakes the phone on every received broadcast packet, which is normally not necessary. Because of that on networks with a lot of broadcast traffic the phone almost never deep sleeps. Our phone is not the only one that suffers from it, there are others. I had to set WiFi to be On only when plugged in, then the battery life is better.
