[Petition] : Get the Sony's sources. - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I've read in some threads than developpers can't really build her rom's and kernels in healthy bases because we didn't have the official sources of our devices.
But we have seen than Sony has help Xperia S project and our community is big, then we can try to get more complicity from Sony to our XDA Developpers.
I'm from Belgium, so I also wrote a petition to the French speaking users.
We need to do great things about our devices, we need some help from Sony's, android is a open-source project at the start, and i don't understand why her politics didn't change with her poor quality developpement about our smartphones.
If you agree with this petition, speak about on this thread, we will then arrange with Sony.
It's a good place to start our request and i think we can do great things if we persevere.
*** [You can now sign the petition online by following this link : iPetitions - Get the Sony's Sources.] ***
* This one is the English petition. *
Attention: Sony Mobile Development.
From: Android Community Developers.
Concerns: Xperia Smartphones.
Application: Through this petition, the community of developers using your Android smartphone wish more support from you regarding the sources that you disclose. You recently provided your help to open a project benefiting the smartphone Xperia S, however, a large proportion of developers use for development, your midrange smartphones, namely the Xperia U, P, Sola, Go We would much greater openness on your part to share our efforts and provide consumers a wider range renewed.

I agree with you mate, when Sony began helping developers they might share sources.
It will be good if they share sources so we have different roms to choose from.

Yeah right, i think if we do nothing, we get nothing. I'm actually looking for the possibility of this Petition. If every developper of these devices is ready to write her name, we will probably get a return of Sony, but we need a big mobilisation, if we are 20 guys, it's gonna be to the trash. So, complete the poll and say your opinion in this thread to get a idea of motivated guys !
Edit : You do not seem motivated ! We are fighting for our freedom ! ;p

I am with you. We really need more sources.

Maybe an online petition?
(makes it easier to sign)

We need our help !
Thank you guy. We need your help, there should be a show of solidarity on the part of everyone on this forum for our rights, it will permit us to be able to invest in projects more concrete and sustained, and why not extend the movement beyond Sony Smartphones, and thus make our Android devices more open and customizable.

This is done !

This is done at the moment ! Little slow on my part. :silly: Check the first post. :good:

It will take you one minute, sign the petition !
We already have some signatures but this is not enough, talk to your friends, companions, brothers and sisters, we need more freedom ! A big thank to those who already have taken the first step ! :good:

The Sony would share everything ... the problem is most codes produced by ST-Ericsson and they're not open source! that's the catch!

Signed the petition and shared it in fxp thread

Signed by me too.

It is an asset for Sony marketting to be more open in terms of its development, on the one hand, it will be supported by a large majority of consumers for its opening (gain popularity), and secondly, support and renewal its products will be constant and diverse. You have not tired of having to wait 3 months to get an update provided many flaws? Are you a lot to use stock rom on your smartphone? I do not think, simply because our developers do an amazing job! But we could go further and make their work more accessible. It's give and take, everyone wins !

Could you tell me a little more about ST Ericcson ? Did not they link with Sony ? ST Ericcson developers do not work cooperatively with Sony ? Or do they develop spartan hardware level ?
Basically, if we can not act as towards ST Ericcson, we will also, until we have no more constraints. But I'm still quite surprised that Sony can not do anything about it.

ST Ericsson is a chip manufacturer, that is owned by Ericsson and ST Microelectronics. You can find more about it from Wikipedia.
Sony is ST Ericsson's client, and buys microchips, like Novathor, from them. In their agreement Sony is not allowed to distribute ST Ericssons source codes, only binaries.

As post above says, we don't need Sony involved in this petition. We need ST Ericsson
Sent from Xplanet

If the sources are indeed released, it would help with development soo much and make it soo much better

+ 1
I got Jelly Bean AOSP for Xperia Go and I sent mail to Sony support for developers, but 7 days can not get reaply from his team about support for developers on Jelly Bean or any other, so +1 from me! We need open sources for Xperia platform to finish Jelly Bean or any other "free and open public" android rom! Sony sayd about giving "support for open development" so we waiting... We need source code instead of prebuilts because prebuilts on ICS was not good for audio things on CM9 (FXP) so we need these things from source or new prebuilts compatible with CM9! Better is giving us source code for: libsensors, libhardware, ste_omxcomponents, at_core... What about support for Jelly Bean? We can not complete Jelly Bean without source code!

[Q] General question, anyone who can answer please do so!!

Hey...sony ericsson is supposed to give the source code for their android devices right??
I asked SE about releasing the sources of Live with walkman and that's the answer i got...
"Dear George,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.
I can confirm that it is very unlikely that we would release the source code for our handsets.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
What do you have to say mates?
You seem to mix up the source codes.
Only the android codes get released
aaaah...i see!thanks!
so i should have asked them when they were going to release the android source codes for this device...?

I want to be a good developer

Now I have some free time because I have finished my exams and I want to learn more about android development and I wanna be able to do more advanced things like a kernel or something like this...
I'm looking for courses in programming (I know a little of C) but I don't really know what of them could help me to know more about this... C, UNIX shell... What do you recommend me guys?

Learning to use a UNIX shell and the GNU tool chain will be immensely useful. Android is part C++ and part Java, while the kernel is C. For android-specific knowledge, much of the information on developer.android.com for app development also applies to system development, and the cyanogenmod wiki is another wonderful resource.
First I'd install a Linux distribution on your PC and get familiar with it, then start modifying a stock ROM with dsixda's kitchen and apktool, and then to compiling a stock-ROM-compatible kernel with Entropy512 and rumirand's sources, and from there move on to compiling Android from source. Don't rush; the most important point is to read all you can to understand what you are doing.

Hello,
if you want to be a developer you have to be...
...patience
...good structure
...got a good feeling with software/hardware
...always be ready to learn something
...friendly to the community and other devs
Here are some really helpful tipps:
- always make with a fix plan before you're starting new project
- if you need an answer: google the problem -> search in the forum -> ask the question in a Q'n'A thread
- start with easy thing like modifying apps
- work yourself high (start with easy things -> at the end you may will be better than Bill Gates, Linus Torvalds and Steve Jobs together! )
- Read instructions very painfully before you're starting
- always educate yourself
- work structured
- make logs!
Good luck, Androthan
Hello.
I started with modding roms and after that porting roms from the ace to the gio now I am theming the most

Don't be offended... but...
Basic idea of a developer is that he's able to search for his problem and find it's solution.
Let's assume you build AOSP, now, you are facing bugs (which won't be less), now, will you create a thread asking normal users on how to fix that bugs?
If they would have known, they would have made it too.
Likewise, if you are able or keen to develop for device and can't find something by searching (yes, everything is already present on this site, just needs some searching), I assume you'll have problems at each step.
So, first try to search, there are several guides in Android Software Development Section and Android Chef Central.
There is also Compiling from Source Q&A Help Thread to post you problem.
And, one last thing, starting development with a device like Ace S5830i is itself a very difficult task.

You know, you don't become a developer from an hour to another. I'm 16 years old, and i know it's a long way to go to be a developer. I'm learning a lot with all the members of Xda, like iamareebjamal, Sq Matrix and bieltv.3. Xda have tutorials and guides o' plenty for you to learn. So, i'll be waiting for your AOSP build.

Rom g2 mini d625

HELLO THERE WANTED TO KNOW FOR ALL MODELS ROMS FOR LESS FOR THIS PLEASE take out a FOR THIS :crying:
If all of you that ask for ROMs on the D625, collaborated and used Google to find tutorials then you would have a working ROM by now.
So please, stop spamming the forums with posts & threads asking for ROMs and start using Google. This is how all of our "developers" got started.
Of course, no offence meant. This post is about anyone who asks for ROMs on any variant, not specifically you

I don't know if you didn't see it, but elasenta can barely understand you in english. Don't expect to get "developers" from people who can't understand a technical tutorial in english (of course, you're not gonna find anything in spanish). And the same for me, you will see i'm writing a really bad english and when I read technicals things in this forum I get so confused. So I can understand elasenta.

I've seen some bad english posts, but this one takes the prize.
And there are some good tutorials in spanish , HTCMania has some good tips on D625 where I did found some info about clean stock roms and other general settings. Unfortunately, the D625 does not get the same development treatment as some other G2 Mini variants sold in english speaking countries (or any non mainstream Tegra device)

The problem with the Tegra SoC is that not many people know how to work on them. If the D625 had a QualComm SoC, then there would be some people that would work on it, even if they don't have it.
So, basically, the problem is that developers don't know how to work on it, not that they don't want to.
