I noticed that when I take pics or download a file it doesnt save to my sd card. Instead it saves to internal storage. Anyway to change this to default to the sd card. Im coming from the GNex and its been awhile since I had to use a sdcard.

In the camera, click settings and scroll all the way down. One of the last options is where to save pics. Default is phone, but you can set to memory card. Keep in mind that burst mode will only save to the phone memory.
Save locations for the browser and other places are configurable in the respective app.

When taking photos & video - there is no consistency with where the images are stored - some store on the SD and some on the phone. Is there a setting somewhere that I can set to always default to saveing on the SD card? I haev looked but cannot find such a feature. Just makes it a pain when I have to go searching for a pic I have taken.

I am new to hd2 and I have the same issue. In my TP2, I had used advanced config to select my pictures vs DCIM in the camera setting and then in locations, I had selected storage card\my documents for my doc storage and never had a problem.
With the HD2, there is an extra setting available in the camera apps to select storage, either phone or sd card. If I pick card, it sends pics to the DCIM. If I select phone storage, it puts them in the my docs on the phone.
I just want them to go to my pics under my docs on the storage card.
Ideas?
Okay, first of all, I have done a lot of search on this topic over various forums and google. Some topic pops up occasionally, but never got answered, strange...
Basically I am trying to figure out two things:
1. How to move apps to microSD card? Not a single definitive answer or tutorial would allow me to move apps to external SD card. I've tried app2sd, link2sd also the stock CM7 application manager, which all of them would only allow to move apps to internal storage of the phone which is called SD card for Galaxy SII. Also the microsd card is under the diretory of mnt/emmc. Some other tutorials suggesting moving game data over /sdcard/external_sd/, I tried as well, but my microSD's storage doens't go down so I assume the data is still on internal SD card.
2. How to enable apps to save user data automatically on micro sd card? For example, I have lots of camera apps, which automatically save photos that I took on /sdcard/DCIM, I want them to be on my micro SD card AUTOMATICALLY, is there a way of doing this?
Many thanks, oh btw, I am using cyanogenmod 7 on Galaxy SII
I cannot see much reason to move apps to external sd card with a sgs2, that is something for inferior phones , there is a lot of space on application storage and internal sd card for that.
Most people are fine by just moving media files to the external card.

how about my second question, i shot a lot of photos and hd videos daily, i know i can manully move them to external, but that Kinda make my gallery look clustered if you know what i mean.
Have you tried doin it internally via your phone:settings-applications-running services. On the top left touch on "downloaded" and all your downloaded apps will appear.Touch on whatever app you like and you will get the option to move, uninstall or clear data.Remember that not all downloaded apps are able to be moved to external sd and if the app you would like to move is unmovable by default then you will see that.
The problem is Android only likes one sd card. So when you have an internal SD card like the sg2 the system doesn't take advantage of your external sd card.

You can change storage area in camera settings (with stock camera app).
Have looked around, and can't find out much. I know the SGS2 has peculiarities when it comes to the internal and external storage while using CM7. Is there a way to have photos/ vids taken with the camera on the phone saved directly to the external sd storage?
If it's a simple UI setting, then god forgive my ignorance.

I doubt it right now at least. I haven't actually tried it on my SGS2 but I know on my captivate running CM7 I got into the habit of using root explorer every day/week whenever I had pics/videos that I wanted to move to the emmc just in case I ever had to do a full wipe or anything. Never had to actually format ever on my captivate but once you get in the habit it is not too bad.

Think I got it:
settings>cm settings>application>use internal storage
If checked, it appears to use the external sd card. if unchecked (default), it uses internal sd card. sammy sure likes to make things confusing.
If you open the camera app and click the gear icon for settings, then swipe up on the settings to scroll down (took me forever to figure out there were more settings below the fold) you will find a setting called "Storage". Change it from "Phone" to "Memory Card" and photos will save on your external_sd.

We don't have that option in CM7, which the OP said he is running. It should work with the settings be changed though.

How come every time I download a file within my browser it saves it to the internal storage, is there a way to have it set to the SD card? I set my pictures do the same but for some reason before flashing the new SFB it would save to internal. As far as apps as well, since data is saved like notes on the SD it is now saved on the internal ? ?
Set your storage location to SDCard in the settings.

I did but every app folder gets saved on the internal, your talking about where it says Windows Media Sync and you choose SD CARD ? because I did that already before and everything gets sent to the internal card
If you go into setting for Pictures, Videos, or music, each has a storage location. I have not checked the others (Kindle, ect)

I have an S4 with a brand new 32gb Class 10 sd card. I want to make sure that all of my pictures and videos are stored on the SD card and not the internal storage. I also, don't want them stored on both. Is there a setting for this? On a side note, is there a way to auto install apps to the SD card?
Thanks!
Camera app. Menu soft key, settings, cog wheel, storage, set to memory card.
And no.

is there a way to change the default storage to the external SD card. I already changed the settings in the camera, also in the built in web browser however whenever I download anything (via chrome), my downloads always save on the internal SD. same prob. when I download from the xda app. I now have multiple download, tapatalk, camera, etc. folders in the gallery due to this.
In My Files, use the menu key > Settings to change the default file locations for five types, downloads not included.
Since ICS/JB? Apps aren't installed to the SD card. Sucks with only 9gb total
