Is it possible to change which radio is being used on the HOX+ [ATT]?
For example is it possible to switch from 3G to 4G/LTE whenever one desires?
It's possible on the att gs3 we would change apns

Yeah I posted about that in another forum the other day and can't find a way to do it. On my inspire I would just dial *#*#4636#*#* to get to the phone info menu and disable the wcdma network but you can't change that here without it jumping right back.

I know that but it sure beats goin into the dialer and inputing all that crap
Pretty sure that you shouldn't mess with these.
I remember reading on here from on of the mods or developers that doing this prevents the phone from automatically switching between the different bands and the only way to restore the auto switch functionality was to ruu.

I live in SLC, UT. I've noticed that when I head out to Backcountry ski my phone loses signal or switches to Edge or G band. That's fine, the issue I've noticed is that when I ski back into an area where I know 4g is available the phone doesn't switch bands. I either need to restart the phone, or turn the radio off/on with *#*#4636#*#*. I'm sure I could go in/out of airplane mode as well. It's frustrating that the phone won't switch automatically back to the fastest band available. Any ideas or things to try?

No, I used hasoon2000's kit to root. Other than that it's got the stock ROM. AT&T is my provider.

For what it's worth I live in the SLC area too just outside of the LTE coverage and this happens to both of my phones all the time. I loose connection and get the "emergency calls only" status message on the front. I think it has to do with the LTE network not working properly when you go from LTE to 4g. I frequently go out of town and I never have this problem in Cali. View my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149247&page=2 here for more info

I live in Saratoga Springs, UT and it's barely outside of the provo lte network. I would experience the same thing and the signal would completely disconnect or the phone would even say I didn't have a sim card in so I called AT&T and they sent me a replacement. The replacement still had problems so I did some reading around and saw that it's because of a loose sim tray. Try adding about 5 layers of scotch tape to your sim card and see if it helps. It's worked for me!

Cool I'll give that a shot.

Hey guys, I have an AT&T one x+ which I had carrier unlocked. I tried a few different sim cards while I was in the US, including my UK pay-as-you-go sim from 3 and all worked fine. However, now that I'm back in the UK I'm finding that the phone can't find any network. Anyone know why? Do I have to flash a different radio or something?

Check the compatible radio frequencies of your HOX+ with those of 3. I'm guessing that there not compatible though..... Unfortunately you can flash all the radio's you want but it won't change a thing. The frequencies are hard coded into the chipset. The reason it worked in the US, is because you was using a UK sim, but roaming on a compatible US network. Maybe you could try an EE sim, There the only 4G network in the UK right now, maybe there using more compatible frequencies.

As far as I know: 3 operates on the UMTS 2100 MHz frequency in the uk, and according to the specs on the AT&T website, the one x+ is capable of operating on this frequency. I tried my sisters EE sim card and had the same problem. I'm wondering if it's something in my settings.

I'm using Viper rom version 2.0, but have the same problem with stock rom when I reverted back to an old nandroid backup. I did upgrade to the new RUU that AT&T pushed out a couple of months back. Could that be the cause? More importantly, is there anything I can do to fix it? Could it be something as simple as a setting I have to change?
Thanks for your help, guys.

Ok, I finally figured it out!
I went into the hidden phone diagnostics options (press *#*#4636#*#*) and selected "Phone information". On the next screen under the menu options in the top right corner is "Select radio bands", clicked that and then selected "Automatic" instead of "USA only". I then removed and reinserted the sim card and it found the network. Managed to get data working by manually entering the correct APN settings.
BOOM, there goes the dynamite.
Hope that helps anyone else trying to use their AT&T One X+ abroad.

What's sad is, after spending time to get it working I really started liking the international Galaxy S3 that I'd been borrowing in the meantime. It's running CM 10.1 right now and seems to fly. My sister upgraded to the S4 and this thing has been sitting in a drawer for the past few weeks. Finders keepers.

Reboot the phone and let the phone register on the network. The APN should be in the phone database. In case its not, which would be impossible with a stock rom, you can enter it, and be sure to SAVE it.
Right now I'm using the phone apn I have rebooted the phone many times I actually would like to know when I put it to only lyrics in the phone info menu it still shows as hspa
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
HSPA = 3G/4G Kind of strongest signal available.
On TouchWiz firmware:
E=2g
3g=3g
4g=hspa
4g lte= lte the strongest signal.
Aosp:
E=2g
3g=3g
H=hspa
4g= lte
disable lte

Keep in mind that if you lock it to LTE you will get no voice service. Your phone will not ring, you will have no indication what so ever that someone is calling you. LTE is for data only and for voice it drops down to UMTS or GSM.

so then how does one revert back to default setting?
You RE-enter *#*#4636#*#* and and change it back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE AUTO or just simply go back to internet settings and choose this Network Mode.
I tried this and i was still getting calls...instead of doing that, turn on "do not disturb" mode .. and say goodbye to phone calls dropping you down to 4g while tethering while gaming
The calls will go straight to vm without even dropping you down to 4g
