If i understand this correctly it would end up puting them in the same model as over seas except here in the US correct?

Yeah, this is the European model finally getting tested Stateside.
I just don't like the new Value Plans over the old(er) plans... Data wise, they suck (for me anyway)

Glad to see this being done in the States, I just hope it is adopted.
I am going to pay out of my Sprint contract and going the route of Nexus 4 and prepaid.

Should I get one though Ting?

So, looking to upgrade and kick Sprint to the curb after 12 years with Nextel, and Ting is looking like a really fine service as far as four line family plans go. I'm kicking around my HTC Hero, (CM7, gonna try ICS Beta for it's last huzzah.) and was looking for a more powerful Android. Was thinking about getting a feature phone or a mifi, and complementing it with a Galaxy Player. But the Photon looks really, really nice all of a sudden, with 4G and GSM compatibility. Toss in the best specs on a month-to-month phone that I've seen, I'm seriously considering dropping $550 on this thing. Please talk me out of it?
I don't know if you are in the states, but US gsm towers are blocked.
Edit: The photon is featured in their front page, and it gives incorrect/conflicting information about the phone.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
^ Yeah, I know that. Kinda hoping that might be unblocked by the time I'm interested in it, if I want to jump to T-Mobile in the future. I know it's a long shot, but it would be nice to have.

talking about the awesome 1.2ghz cpu we have?
i sent them numerous emails about it :/ lady was real nice but kept claiming they had fixed it
Seriously? Probably should have caught that earlier with all the looking up I did on the phone.
Just get Ting are you in Canada?
Stateside. And with the Photon kinda being oversold on the Ting website, and not that great a bump from the Conquer, dual core nonwithstanding, I'm still a little confuzled on what I want.
How future-proof would you say this thing is, regarding still being competitive in the next couple years? Tend to run them until they dead or unserviceable, and if blow a massive chunk of my tax return, might as well make it last a while.
Experience with Ting thus far...
Hi all,
I recently changed carriers from AT&T (using Motorola Atrix 4G) to Ting (Motorola Photon 4G) and I have recently unlocked the bootloader (yes, I lost 4G connectivity), rooted, and installed the latest version of Rocko ROM with Alien Theme.
Everything has worked out so far and I am having a good experience with the device and with Ting Mobile, from their no wait phone service policy, to their dashboard web interface. I can't really speak to the relative degree of future proofing the Photon may have compared to other phones, I am just happy that I could get away from paying so much for a similar tier of service at AT&T and not necessarily have to compromise on a phone, though not being able to use GSM towers with a prepaid SIM card is a bummer, but otherwise, so far so good. Take care all.

No phone is future proof the way things are flowing manufacturers are cracking phones out of their ass every 3 months or so. You have to look at the development threads that will tell you how active the phone is on the developers on xda are and that should give you an insight on how worth it is.

Thanks all. Think I'm gonna go with the Optimus for now and wait for my laptop to start losing to the newer phones before I drop big money. Should kick the crap out of my Hero, and I'm happy if it can run Peggle and Netflix when it comes down to it. Thanks all.

I disagree. Just because it's a mobile virtual network operator doesn't mean the the files are the same. On the contrary, I'd bet anyone using one of these device could confirm their notification bar and lock screen show Ting as the carrier, not sprint, which means at a minimum the framework-res/eri.xml has been edited, meaning it's not the same file despite being on "technically" the same network.
I'd like to see a system dump of one of these. I think there are magic elves locked inside

Labas! Kaip sekasi? Any time is good to use my limited Lithuanian skills
For me it depends on what ends up happening to the USA version...if they make changes to it I will either have to buy an international version or wait for something else.

For me using unlimited dumbphone data for half the price on the international version easily outweighs getting a subbed phone on 2 gigs a month.
Where's the option for "I'm waiting for the price to drop in a few months"?

You can use the $15 non smartphone unlimited data plan with the international version. This will work because at&t won't have the imei of the international version in their system. Obviously don't tell this to at&t, just say you have a dumb phone and need to use data with it. They will ask the imei of the dumbphone, just give the sgs3 imei.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Does that really work? I mean it would be easy to buy any cheap international phone and give that imei and save a lot of money in data plans. Somehow I think they will notice the high data usage. Just sounds too good.

Yes, I am using the i9100 on the non smartphone data plan. I gave AT&T the imei of my old Moto V180 and it shows up when I log in onto my AT&T account. I hope it stays like this forever but in reality, I believe it's only a matter of time before AT&T catches on
15 dollars for unlimited data, or combine with 20 dollar unlimited texting + 10 unlimited data it's not bad either. I burn through 5-6 gigs of month and have been for the past 8 months since I bought the i9100.
Check it out, here are a list of phones that work on AT&T.

flash your note 2 to prepaid

so i just flash a note 2 to verizon prepaid its amazing for 50 dollars UNLIMITED you cant get a better deal than that..
amazing speed i was shock that hd youtube videos dont buffer when playing
i did speed test 1,9 to 2.5 mbs enough for fast loading webpages and watching video i also was able to do skype and ovoo
There shouldn't be much needed in the way of flashing. Root the phone, add in APN data for the prepaid carrier you're using, put in your SIM, and then profit. The phone already works on AT&T and T-Mobile in the US if you have a SIM, you just need to be able to add APN info, which you can't by default.

[CARRIER] In contract T-Mobile or Orange on i9300?

If you are on contract with T-Mobile or Orange and are sick of the network speeds and they ate doing nothing about it. I heard a little God today that give me some advice.
They will migrate you over to EE for 4g services.
How it works;
1 Visit EE shop
2 Take your i9300 with you
3 They will exchange it for i9305
4 You will enter into a new contract
I'm thinking of doing this but I will be asking the following questions;
1 Why are they actually doing this?
2 Is it a strict swap to i9305
3 Have I not paid for the phone already?
Obviously more questions will arise I will post back once I have been in store.
P.S This can only be done in store.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
They could very well do this as a normal upgrade, in that case you will have to pay an early upgrade fee.
If they aren't they will be doing it to get everyone on their rip off LTE tariffs before they are heavily undercut (EE will charge more for 1GB when Three will charge £34 for unlimited data)

As I read it, you basically dont have to pay an early upgrade fee. I could be wrong.....
You will have to enter into a new minimum term on EE;
You can only sign up to a new minimum term on EE which is the same length or longer than your current minimum term on T-Mobile or Orange
You will have to pay any applicable upfront handset cost as part of your new plan on EE; and
can only swap to 4GEE from consumer plans on T-Mobile or Orange if you have the iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy SIII, HTC One X or Blackberry 9900. You can swap to eligible 4G phones which can be found on our website. (Please note, as part of the swap to EE, you will be required to pay the upfront handset cost as part of your new plan on EE).
Old unit .
The handset must be in perfect, working condition and be capable of being switched on. We will not accept handsets that do not turn on or are damaged; that have cracked or scratched screens; or that have cracks to the device casing. Our retail staff will decide whether to accept your phone based on its condition and their decision is final

I wouldn't mind 4g but I would wait until it comes to Three, they have announced they will charge no more for a 4g service, all you need is a 4g phone and you can access their 4g on any plans. Whether they will have PAYG sims that work on 4g is a different matter though.

Returned my One DEV and ordered a T-Mobile version

Hello guys,
The Straight Talk service on my HTC One DEV had been decreased significantly since I reactivated it last month. Enough 0.16Mps download speed for me, so I decided to return the Dev version (due to some minor physical imperfections) and got a T-Mobile version.
As I read on the forum, the T-Mobile version of the One has all the bands that AT&T version doesn't. With military discount, I pay roughly 60 bucks per month for unlimited everything (only 15 bucks more from what I pay with Straight Talk). So this is a good deal for me.
Hopefully I have made a right choice

The Straight Talk service on my HTC One DEV had been decreased significantly since I reactivated it last month. Enough 0.16Mps download speed for me, so I decided to return the Dev version (due to some minor physical imperfections) and got a T-Mobile version.
As I read on the forum, the T-Mobile version of the One has all the bands that AT&T version doesn't. With military discount, I pay roughly 60 bucks per month for unlimited everything (only 15 bucks more from what I pay with Straight Talk). So this is a good deal for me.
Hopefully I have made a right choice

Wait a minute, are you saying that the T-Mobile HTC One works with AT&T?

it will be able to once the carriers make sim unlocking available. at&t and t-mobile are compatible, while sprint version isn't.

The Dev will work on T-Mobile LTE when that is available.
