Help. Can't root! Strange problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This problem actually caused me to go out and buy another i9100 (which i've successfully rooted multiple times, so I don't think my process is wrong). I'm just trying to get it working so i can have a spare. I've tried searching and couldn't find anything relating to this problem.
Firstly, the problem is like the phones memory is locked. It works completely normally, but if there are any data changes (send/receive messages, install apps, take pictures, change settings... or even deleting things), as soon as the phone is restarted, everything is restored back to the state it was in on 9th November. I don't think the date is relevant to the problem, however
Taking that into account, I'm trying to fix my phone by rooting it and installing a fresh OS on top, but because of this "locked memory" anything i do is ineffective.
I've tried to go into download mode and flash CF-Root onto it, which appears successful, but when it boots back up it's as if nothing happened - no superuser app, no triangle at boot screen. See here: hxxx://i.imgur.com/M0LKW.jpg
I've also tried SuperOneClick. It goes through its process but hangs after "rooting device step#7". See here :hxxx://i.imgur.com/XcPwO.jpg
Entering recovery mode and performing a factory reset doesn't do anything
Deleting everything on the internal SD through windows doesn't do anything.
So because I can't get root, I can't flash CWM or a new OS on top and i'm stuck with a phone which won't change. If i use the phone normally, after a few days it gets stuck in a crash loop (crashes, hit force close, app relaunches and crashes immediately, repeat) and i'm forced to restart. See here: hxxx://i.imgur.com/ACFl5.jpg
I'm out of ideas. Is there anything else I can try?
Phone details:
Model: GT-I9100
Android v: 2.3.6
Baseband: I9100XXKI4
Kernel: [email protected] #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.XWKK2
Thanks in advance

This is the first time I have heard anything like this (it's like deep freeze(for pc) activated) Anyway I suggest you re flash a stock rom and then root by using something like Siyah latest both via Odin.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.

After flashing a stock firmware via Odin your phone booted up like nothing happened? It's quite impossible I tell you, you must have done something wrong, you must download a stock firmware for your phone (according to region if required) go into download mode flash the tar.md5 file selecting PDA in Odin don't check re partition tick factory reset, and after flashing your phone should be having a new stock rom, try jb or gingerbread stock if the problem persist (logically it shouldn't).
Locked memory huh good name, if you're memory is resetting because of a hardware fault then we can't do anything except send it to the service center, could you post a link to a video of this particular problem it's hm.. You know it's quite unbelievable and maybe a video of your phone resetting itself could maybe stir up some developers who know a bit of hardware.

Yep i'll record a video later today.
I'm guessing i'll have to send it in, but it'd be good just to document this kind of problem

Reflashes via odin and nothing Changed

Need help! Lost IMEI and phone refuses to update.

Hi XDA and a Happy New Year to everyone.
I recently bought a SGSII from someone, at a very low price, because of some software problems.
I could use it for spare parts, but I`d like to fix it if it is possible.
As far as I know, the phone was used to "test" different roms and tweaks by a kid who thought was a developer, and accidently messed up its efs folder without backing it up, so the phone now has a generic IMEI (0049..)
I found a final solution for this, in case nothing works, from user Odia, who can restore your efs folder without having a backup, and I`ll keep this option as a last resort.
But wait, there`s more.
The phone is acting really weird. Each time I start it, it reverts back to its default settings. From power options, to widget location, everything goes back to their original state.
Further more, while taking photos with it works perfect, when recording a video, it doesn`t save its self on to the flash memory.
I`ve tried flashing a different ROM (at the moment it has a default 2.3.3 Samsung ROM) from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5, using Odin. Everything goes well while flashing, with no errors in Odin. But after the phone reboots it has the same firmware/rom as before. Nothing changes. I`ve confirmed this by dialing *#1234#.
The IMEI problem isn`t that important (at the moment), but I`d like to be able to at least use the phone and to install a different ROM.
I don`t know what could be the problem, it`s like everything on it is on Read Only, or like a computer with Deep Freeze installed - everything looks ok while writing, but after a reboot, nothing was saved.
If you need anymore details regarding the device, please let me know and I`ll try to post them asap.
Hoping someone can help me with it.
No IMEI means your phone will not connect to a network as its part of the handshake process .
Suggestion would be .

Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .

Stuck again.
First of all, thank you JJEgan for your reply.
I`ve tried what you`ve told to, but failed.
Tried installing CWM (GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.0.2 and GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3) from the official thread, using Odin (both 1.83 and 1.85) but after the phone reboots, it isn`t there.
If I try accessing it via VolUp + Home + Power, it goes directly into the Android Recovery System, the default one, and not CWM.
I`ve even installed it via Odin and immediately removed the battery in order to prevent the phone from rewriting itself after Odin said everything is OK, and got the same results.
Dialing *#1234# gives me the following:
PDA: I9100XEKDB
PHONE: I9100XXKDH
CSC: I9100XEKD9
Build Info: Tue Apr 26 09:10:03 KST 2011
Click to collapse
I`ve tried locating the correct version of CF-Root for it but I can`t find one for KDB in the official thread.
As I said in the first post, when I try to write something on it using Odin, everything goes well, no error, it doesn`t freeze, but after it sends the reboot command, it`s like nothing happened. It reverts everything to stock.
Any other thoughts ?
I do not believe you have an international version of the sgs2, you may have 19100 G or other version which cannot be rooted by using the standard cfroot.
check the label under the battery for which version you have.
I do not trust any of the information from the firmware as it may have been altered as one of the tweaks.
as far as I know the was no XXKDH. the number system used is 2 letters followed by a number
k = year d= month 2011 - april is correct but the H is not.
you may have a chinese rip off of the sgs2.
# = version for that month.
Thank you for your answer Cosmic Blue
The phone isn`t a rip off. It`s a SGS2 from Orange, Ukraine (I believe).
Everything on the device is signed by Samsung. The phone`s specs are exactly what they should be. Kies identifies is perfectly and I can sync everything with it. Samsung drivers also work correctly.
Label behind the battery:
MODEL: GT-I9100
SSN: I9100GSMH
RATED: 3,7V = ; 1000 mA
FCC ID: A3LGTI9100
MADE IN KOREA BY SAMSUNG

Plus IMEI (The original one I`m trying to restore) and Serial Number.
Also, on the bottom rim, next to the speaker, there`s the Orange logo and I9100.
I had a brand new I9100 before, and this one isn`t any different from that one in anyway, except that the OS is all messed-up and the IMEI is a generic one, a problem a lot of people found themselves in around here.
Also, you can find the firmware version I mentioned above at samfirmware.com
As XWKDD was one of the first i would say KDH is probably correct but you are reading wrong info .
Therefore H is correct and phone is i9100 SGS 2 not a Chinese rip off .
First firmware on stock roms thread .
XWKDD
Firmware info
PDA:XWKDD
PHONE: XXKDH
Build date: 26/04/2011
However it looks like you have failed to install cwm and root .
Go to the cwm and root thread and flash the first one as below via ODIN
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE2-v4.0-CWM4.zip -
Flash that one via ODIN report back

Same problem with it.
Downloaded the mentioned CF-Root version, flashed it using Odin as PDA, rebooted with no SuperUser app in application drawer. Rebooted and tried accessing CWM with no success. Just Android System Recovery <3e>.
Also, reflashed CF-Root without Auto Reboot in Odin, and when it finished, I removed the battery and put it back in. Tried to access CWM with the same results as above.
I managed yesterday to root it by flashing XWKDD_insecure.tar as PDA and using SuperOneClick v2.3.2. The phone had a SuperUser app on it, but the phone was really lagging and after a reboot, it wasnt` there anymore.
The problem is definite then the read only memory is not holding the flash possible its a part that holds the ram during flash that is corrupt .
Sorry not a clue it looks like service job to me .
A thought have a look at Mobile ODin thread .

Hi.
Sorry for the late input, I`ve been quite busy lately.
I can`t try Mobile Odin as rooting it doesn`t really work.
I flashed XWKDD_insecure.tar and then used SuperOneClick but all that it does is put a SuperUser icon in my Apps folder
I think that after the restart for for flashing XWKDD_insecure.tar it reverted its changes, as it usually does. SupeOneClick would probably have the same result on it without bothering to flash the insecure kernel.
Anyway, I got tired of using it just as a door stopper so I took it to a certified Samsung service. After a couple of days they called to let me know that motherboard needs changing and it would cost somewhere around $300 to change it.
I guess I`ll be selling it for spare parts or giving it to one of my nieces to learn typing on.
Thanks JJEgan for your effort.

I have seen this before, basically the NAND controller is toasted so it cant write, only read.
As they said, only way is to replace the motherboard (Where the NAND/controller) is.
Its a shame they wont repair it under warranty, I suppose they noticed that its been flashed and killed
Model: GT-19100, SSN: 19100GSMH, made in korea by samsung, I flashed it back using a rom from Xda forums but now its Android 2.3.5, no super user, I have HC-kTool that I downloaded from new Android market, it says I need root to use HC-kTool. I have Root explorer and Rom manager but I dont have root, how do I fix imie, baseband, my Samsung galaxy s2 works well on wifi, everything works but it doesnt read my sim?????

How to restore an original firmware?

Hello.
I have a problem. When I bought my SGS2, I had a branded software (GINGERBREAD). I decided to update it to ICS. Everything went well, but I played a little bit with Android and messed up some things. My power screen did not appear. Phone was just turning off, while I was holding the power button, instead of showing up the power screen, where I could be able to turn off the flight mode for example. Simply, it was just straightly turning off. And I did not have lockscreen. When I pressed the lock key, the screen just got dark, and, when I pressed it again, the screen went on, without the lock screen to tap and move. It just took me straightly to the screen I had had before. I decided to wipe everything, but it did not help. I searched the Net and found my branded ROM, that I seemingly had pre-installed on my phone. After flashing I hoped everything to go well. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem. I could not even make a call or access the internet. It said, that I do not have access to the network and asked me to put my sim card in, when I had it done. That was weird. I tried to install KI3 ROM, that I found on the net. It restored my Android to 2.3.5 and fixed the problems. But now, when I try to update my Android to ICS, the problems appear again. I just got stuck on 2.3.5 and I do not see any working way to update my Android.
What is funny, even after wiping, on the home screen, when the phone should ask me to type my google account to synchronize and all that things, it just takes me straightly to the home screen. It looks like the data about my account is saved somewhere on PC, and even the wipe does not seem to delete the data. That is rediculous. But this is about ICS only. Gingerbread is OK.
If you could, give me some real working links. I might used some damaged ROMs or something like that. I do not know, I have no clue. I've been trying to fix that since I got the problem, so I am really hopeless.
Thanks in advance.

1. Download a stock firmware. But, register first.
2. Download Odin.
3. Happy flashing.
I have tried to use Odin. I do not know, which link shall I choose. On the site, you gave me link to, there are a lot of ROMs. Which is the stock?
They are all stock. Where did you purchase your phone (location, carrier), do you have the i9100 or other (i9100t, i9100G, i9100p etc), is it branded.
I am from Poland, so I bought my phone in Poland. The carrier is Play and I have the original I9100. I have already tried to re-install stock firmware and then ICS, but I have no lock screen and no power menu. I also have no connection, it says put a sim card in, even, when it is in. Wipe does not help. I do not even have the first-start screen, when it asks you to type your google account data and synchronize. It just installs and updates aps and that is it. That is weird. It was OK before, but it got screwed up.

Like i said, flash the stock firmware. Sammobile.com>register>FIRMWARE>select your device, region etc>download.
I did, I tried to use the older version of Odin (1.3), and it helped a little bit, but I can not still update Android to ICS properly. I just get sometimes lock-up screen and/or a lot of red messages in recovery mode and I can not boot my system up.

I will try that. But, one more question. Shall I use the PC version of CHECKFUS or the mobile one?
Use the PC version, which will enable you to download the rom & decrypt the package automatically. Connect your phone to PC via USB, fire up Odin, and choose the rom package you download with Checkfus in the PDA section. Flash.

Currently, I did the steps you gave me above and now Odin is flashing my stock kernel (at least, it is supposed to be my stock ROM). Stay tuned.
@ REFRESH.
After flashing, recovery mode vomited with a lot of red messages with errors again. As it was a 3 files ROM, I selected PIT and checked re-partition. Should I leave these options untouched, even when it is the 3 files ROM?

The advice on XDA is never use PIT and never repartition .

I did, but it did not help. What about trying to unmount these directories instead of just formatting in CWM RECOVERY?
Do a full wipe again...select PDA on Odin for rom file...select CSC also and insert the same firmware file u have inserted into the PDA onto the CDC..... It will change ur sales code back to the stock firmware and wipe all the crap that was on there before.do not select any other option on the odin board other than the ones that should already be ticked/selected

I've managed to fix that.
I just had to use a command prompt from Play Store, to change a line of code in one file.

[Q] Hard bricked after using the Galaxy S3 Toolkir

Alright, so here's my problem:
I just upgraded to the Galaxy S III yesterday, and today decided to try to 'root' the device. So I found the Toolkit here on XDA (from here), and went through the initial steps without any issues (driver installation, device recognition, etc..).
I then went to the 'rooting option' menu, where I selected the first--and most basic --option, which was to only install Super User, and the push the permissions.
I was following the automated guide, opened Odin, selected the correct file, 'boot-insecure-i9300xxale8-gsm.tar', and made sure only 'auto-restart' and F.reset time' were checked, and clicked 'start'. The flash appeared to have gone well, but when it tried to restart, the phone never rebooted. I attempted to reboot into download mode (Vol. Down + Home + Power), but the device was unresponsive. I then browsed around the forums a bit looking for other methods, including taking the battery out for several minutes, then putting it back in whilst holding down the 'download mode' button combination, and other various variations of that method; yet again, none prevailed.
The device gives no indicator lights when plugged in, no light up when the power button is held down, and is overall seemingly unresponsive. However, when I hold down the 'home' button alone - after about 30 seconds - a green vertical battery appears on the screen, with a little white loading indicator on it, but vanishes after about 5 seconds or so, and the device becomes unresponsive once more.
The device is not being recognized by my computer whatsoever, no beeps or anything when plugged in.
Any ideas as to what I can do?
EDIT: I have been able to get into 'Download mode' somehow, but after trying to reflash the stock rom, it went back to the 'Unresponsive' mode. I have it in Download mode again currently, so what do I do from here?
I assume it is still under warranty, since it is less than a few days old. Return it to the store claiming hardware malfunctioning.
Forget about the toolkit. In my opinion, it's quite useless (as you know by now), and it tends to automate tasks that are simple by nature.
Even although I appreciate the effort the developers of the toolkit put into it, I would never do it, since I want to have control of the entire process: I want to know exactly what is being done and why, and that is something the Toolkit won't give me.
If you want to root your phone and keep it stock, do this:
- Install the drivers for the device.
- Install SiyahKernel for S3 version 1.3 using ODIN.
- Install superSU (from market) and let it update it's binary su
- Install MobileOdin (free version)
- download the latest Samsung ROM (such as DBT [Germany] or ITV [Italy]) using CheckFus downloader
- copy the downloaded and unzipped ROM to your phone's external SD card (just the .md5 file)
- using MobileODIN, flash the ROM and select the "EverRoot" feature
- after reboot the ROM will be updated, stock, but with root
- Install TriangleAway to get rid of any annoying triangles and to reset the binary counter
Done. supposing the ROM is already downloaded, the entire process takes exactly 4 minutes.

Thank you so much for responding!
I have the phone in download mode right now though, as I've been able to get that far. Is there anything I can do from here to fix the issue? I really don't want to take it back up, and face the chance of confrontation if they decided to call me out on the issue.
I tried flashing the Sinyah Kernel via Odin just now, using the PDA mode, but once again, just flashes the Samsung logo for a brief second, and disappears, leaving me with a black screen.
Samsung don't seem to really care if you have rooted or not, so far about 4 people in 2 days on this and other for mums have returned phones because they have possibly bricked them, all got them exchanged with out a problem.
To unroot and return your galaxy S3 to stock for warranty watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8Tga_yKywc&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Flash a stock rom for your phone and location or if it was a branded phone flash that .
Even if it does not boot you stand a better chance under warranty .
Say you where doing a Kies update and it just failed to reboot .

I tried to reboot the stock firmware 'boot-stock-i9300xxale8-gsm.tar', but when Odin failed to reboot the phone, and I manually put it back into download mode, it still said my binary was 'Custom'.
Should I be trying to flash that under 'Bootloader' in Odin or something? Because I've been doing 'PDA' and it hasn't been working.
Download an original, stock ROM from samsung-updates.com or use checkFus downloader.
That is what you'll flash.
This is the one I use: http://samsung-updates.com/get/1932/Samsung_Firmware_GT-I9300_DBT_I9300XXALF6_Android_4_0_4.html
After some further browsing, I was able to fix it thanks to this post here, posted by 'mskip'.
Whew! That was stressing. Thanks guys for helping out though!

EDIT: I have been able to get into 'Download mode' somehow, but after trying to reflash the stock rom, it went back to the 'Unresponsive' mode. I have it in Download mode again currently, so what do I do from here?

[Q] S3 Stuck at Weird Download Mode

Hi guys,
I'm sorry if you might find this answered somewhere else. But as far as my xda and google searching skills go, I've exhausted all options.
The rooted S3 (GT-I9300 on stock 4.3 ROM) I've been using was working perfectly fine until I decided to flash touch CWM. (Note: I had already installed the app through play store or blackmart). Now my phone is stuck in a weird download mode loop. It's weird because it's not the normal download mode that comes when you press the Volume Down+Home+Power buttons. It's almost the same, except that the other details on the top-left corner are not being displayed (such as Odin Mode, product name, custom binary download, custom binary ...).
However, I can still access the normal download mode using the above key combinations, only that that phone isn't recognized in Odin. Thus, I couldn't flash the stock rom using the same. Secondly, I can also access the recovery mode, but it's not CWM; instead, it's the stock android system recovery <3e>
Now, to make things worse, all my attempts at flashing custom recovery and stock rom through ADB were in vain. Every time I tried flashing a custom rom or recovery (using adb sideload filename), the phone gave me the following message (E:signature verification failed). I understand it's the case with stock recovery, but I just can't install custom recovery. And to top it all, my attempts at installing CWM and stock rom (I9300XWUGML4_I9300DDGML4_INU.zip) using the 'apply update from external storage' option (yes, I can access my extSDcard) yield me same results (E:signature verification failed).
So there you are, I tried adb; I tried Odin; I tried applying an update through external storage; I tried removing the battering and reinserting it (after almost four hours); I even tried factory resetting the handset, yet no positive results. My phone still goes to the weird download mode when rebooted. Please help. I don't want to bother everyone with stupid questions. I'm ready to do my research and help my case, but for now I'm at a roadblock. Your help would be much appreciated.
Details:
Was running on stock 4.3; no custom ROMs were installed; it was only rooted

Guys,
Is there a way out of this? I've started the day thinking I might have missed something but still can't seem to figure it out.
Try taking the battery out, while the phone is connected to the pc, in download mode.
Without connection to Odin there is little you can do, take for a repair.

Tried that.. when I remove the battery, nothing changes (the screen shows the download mode) until I unplug the USB cable.
Is there anyway I can flash a ROM using adb? I tried adb sideload <filename> (stock rom downloaded from sammobile) but nothing happens. Command prompt is stuck for some time, then the phone restarts into recovery mode but not completely. It gets stuck at the animation screen, where the bot is being repaired.
You would have to write each image part to the correct partition, complicated and risky.

Well, took it to the service center a while back. Got it repaired. Tried to get some information from the tech guys on what is it that they did. But well, a cloak of anonymity was thrown over the process. Nevertheless, I understand why they wouldn't let me know. But glad that the phone is working. Although can't say for how long, as I'm going to root it again and install a custom ROM. Just can't keep my hands off of it.
Thanks anyway for everything. This was my first thread and I'm glad with the responses. Cheers!!!
Stupid me! Just found out the problem. It was the USB cable. I didn't suspect it earlier as it was working fine in adb. Now after the repair when I tried installing a ROM through odin, the phone wasn't getting detected, like earlier. That's when it struck me to check the cable. I was using the original data cable that came with the phone, as it was in mint condition. I tried connecting the phone using my sister's Xperia Z's data cable. And lo and behold! Device added in Odin. Stupid me! No wonder the tech guys were a bit apprehensive in telling me what the problem.

[PLEASE HELP] T-Mobile Galaxy S5 Random Reboots, Freezes and Force Closes.

Hello, This is my first Post on XDA so please help me to familiarize myself with rules and procedures and I apologize if I break any in any way.
Okay, So My phone (SM-G900T) is about 5 months old. I bought it in August, Without insurance (Terrible Idea), and now it is having problems. In the amount of time I've had it, I rooted it in mid to late September and used only an app called Xmod for a game. I then started using greenify, solid explorer and eventually used Xposed installer to try a few Xposed modules. Specifically I used, the YouTube adaway, Rich Pandora notification and that's about it. I also later installed Samsung Tools to backup my IMEI and important partitions.
A few days ago my phone randomly rebooted in the middle of a YouTube video so I let it reboot, but it rebooted again, and again, and again. I pulled the battery and turned it back on but the same problem persisted. I couldn't do anything to fix it so I just decided to factory reset the device through the stock recovery. Also, I did not install any custom roms or anything either. The factory reset did nothing. Now when I was in setup, everything force closed, froze and rebooted, repeatedly. So I found the original firmware that my phone came with and flashed it to my phone through Odin because I literally had no hope of what to do anymore. The problem lessened so I didn't install all my apps and overload the device as it would reboot when the RAM would get pretty full or too many things were running simultaneously in the background or foreground. The problem got a little worse so I factory reset one more time and it lessened again but now it came back and factory Resetting isn't lessening the problem. Now it just force closes a bunch of stuff and freezes and reboots into a bootloop midway through initial setup. I am desperate at this point right now and I need help from you guys. I don't have warranty because I rooted and I made the Extremely stupid decision of not getting insurance. So please can anyone help me out? I will be eternally grateful if you can help me turn this $609 brick into a phone again.
I will try to check this thread daily, but I go to school and I may not respond immediately, so please understand.

Do you have SD card installed? If you do try taking it out and leave out or replace with another SdCard. Then flash the original stock firmware as you said you did before through (odin!) Then if that dont work try kias3 and use the emergency firmware recovery tool. Before you do any of this make sure you factory reset through stock recovery if possible.

Have you tried this tool? I had the same issue with my phone and reinstalled firmware and stock recovery through this tool and it stopped. If none of these tips work id say your phone may be borked or have faulty hardware. Take a look here as welll. Hope you can get your phone back to normal. I can understand what you're going through, like i said i had same issue with mine and mine has seems to be fine as of now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721146 . GOOD LUCK

Okay, so I'm resetting it back to stock firmware through Odin as we speak. And yes, I had an SD card and have already taken it out and left it out and reset but still the problem has persisted, I will definitely try the solution you just mentioned, here I go. And thank you for replying...
Edit:
Hold on, which do you want me to try first? kias3(can you please link it if possible) with emergency firmware recovery tool? OR the Unified Android Toolkit?
Also... I don't exactly know how to use the toolkit, can you verify the steps to take to use the toolkit properly if I should use this solution? I'm sorry but I'm not very advanced at Android development, just intermediately experienced I suppose...

Try kies first that dont work try toolkit. Just Google how to use the toolkit it's pretty self explanatory but I don't think you'll need to use the tool kit anyways. http://www.sammobile.com/kies/

okay, I tried resetting it using Kies3 but the device was not recognized so I had to find a different way because the guide on how to use Kies advised using Odin if Kies didn't recognize your phone. I don't have a code either, So I tried reflashing the stock firmware through Odin and it started up, froze and went into what I presume to be a bootloop as it is stuck on the T-Mobile splash screen with the notification light pulsing continuously. Did I also mention where my phone says Knox warranty void 0x1 there is another statement that says "Counter: 4" or something like that, while I am in download mode, does this have any significance? but yeah, other that Kies and Odin, I'm not sure if the android toolkit will help, because it's basically doing that same thing as I am with Odin, just more automated... Or am I wrong?
but as far as I know, that toolkit is literally the last option I have left, I guess I'll be trying that out tomorrow, with option 10 I believe where it says "10. Download, Extract + Flash Stock Firmware via Odin" but I'm not sure what ADB mode means... I can't really boot up the device so I don't know if that applies
Also, on a side note, how much do you think this will cost if I were to send the phone to Samsung and pay for repairs out of pocket, and do you think they could even repair it at all?
You know what... Do you think if I somehow installed CM12 on the device that the problem would fix itself? Because to me it seems like it's the Samsung software itself that is causing all this trouble along with a few Google apps. Now how would I root it and flash CM12 if it won't boot up fully...
Not sure if this would brick my phone either, let me know if it would if I tried to root through Odin and try to install CM12 through CWM recovery or something
Just throwing ideas, hoping this thread doesn't die before my problem is solved
Also, does geeksquad repair Samsung phones one time for a low fee if you've voided warranty?? If so then this could possibly be my final solution.
Also Never EVER buying a Samsung device again, they just aren't what they used to be back in the day, the other OEMs have caught up and left Samsung and their revenue in the dust...

I disagree with this completely. Very few other handsets can hold a candle to the S5 or the Note 4. I don't know of anybody that has the problems you are describing with their phones without a hardware issue of some type or bad app. The Samsung software runs perfectly on millions of devices without the issues you're having. Therefore it's probably a bad app you've gotten a hold of, or you have a bad phone. CM12 will only introduce more issues and probably won't solve anything.
A stripped down custom rom might be a good bet because you can then start adding your apps back to find out where the issue is, or if it still has the same issues then it almost guarantees that there is some kind of a hardware issue.
