Hi i am sorry i this has been a topic on this before but i searched a hour for it and could no tfind anything.
Anyway i flashed JB with odin but the thing i forgot was to save the efs folder which was in the phone memory and not the sd card,very stupid mistake. I doubt there is root for JB yet and i could not find anything and i have been also searching for a way to get back to the stock rom.i have a backup but thats useless without cwm. Please can some one link me to the rom on virgin or bell or one that might work so i can root and go back to the backup.
Please help me

You can root by flashing Phillz kernel via odin tar or through stock recovery zip file.

thanks it worked i got back to ics but i would really like to stay on jb, i tried saving efs and going to jb. should i try re flashing jb instead of a backup to unlock my sim also is there other way to unlock sim

For copying/backup any file from root directory without rooting.
Just follow this
1. Download AROMA Filemanager from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
2. Copy it over to your SD card. rename it update.zip
3. Reboot into CWM recovery (you can even install temporary CWM recovery found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840223 )
4. Select Mounts and storage
4. Mount /efs and /data.
6. Return to CWM main menu and select "install zip from sd card"
7. Select apply "/sdcard/update.zip". Slelect yes. Armoa file manager will start.
8. Select "EFS" folder and select "copy"
9. Select "/Sdcard" and Select "Paste"
10.Success.

If you first update to ICS somehow (OTA?), yes.
Although i seen something similar to that (flash a .zip file using stock recovery to gain root) i haven't seen someone around s2 forum make a .zip like that. I have seen low end devices gain root by flashing .zip files through stock recovery like Galaxy Ace, Optimus Me and Galaxy Y.

Doesn't Mobile Odin require root in the first place to run? His phone is currently unrooted, unless that status has changed.

I do have a theory... but it will involve you upgrading to ICS while you're at it. You'll also have to wipe your device, which will remove all your apps/contacts/etc, but should leave all your pictures/movies/music/etc. I am not sure if it will work or not, as I haven't actually tried it myself.
You'll need an external SD card for this.
- Download CWM Recovery for the Galaxy S2 from the ClockworkMod website and put in on your external SD card.
- Download one of wanam's stock ICS ROMs that are CWM flashable from his thread and put it on your external SD card.
- reboot to recovery
- do a full wipe (data/factory reset)
- choose "apply update from external storage"
- find and select the recovery image downloaded in the first step, and wait for CWM recovery to appear
- choose "install from sdcard"
- find and select the ROM you downloaded in the second step
Once this last step is done, I believe you'll need to reboot. The advantage of this is though all the ROMs in wanam's thread are all stock, they are ALSO rooted. So you'll both upgrade to ICS and root your device simultaneously.
Again, this is a theory, but I don't see why this wouldn't work. (of course, someone please point out anything I didn't think of that would prevent this from working the way I envisioned it)

Please forgive me for such a noob question because im new to this but Iv currently have the voodoo sim unlock on my S3 and is working fine but with samsung's latest update i have to use the voodoo app everytime i turn my phone on therefore would like to apply this fix but dont know how to flash in CWM recovery.
Could someone please tell me how i would go about doing this?
Ive downloaded the fix file and unzipped it to have two folders: "META-INF" & "system"
My phone is on unbranded stock firmware and rooted.

the Meta and system files are WHAT that zip file will be modifying.
your not supposed to unzip them......just place them on your phone and use CWM to flash from sd and choose that zip to flash.

The kernel will is safe to use, but when flashing there is always a chance of bricking, just to make sure you get the right one here is the link to the kernel you need.

The one that has CWM in the name is a zip file to flash in recovery mode, go to install zip from sd card, then choose zip from sd card and browse to the folder you saved it in and select the zip and scroll to yes then reboot.
The .tar file is to flash in Odin, add the file to PDA, enter download mode and connect the phone to the pc via usb, then click start sit back and your phone will reboot automatically.
Make sure repartition is NOT checked in Odin.
To check the kernel go to settings, about device and check kernel version.
Well I have already rooted in odin so do I just download this kernel on my phone, the go to recovery mode and apply the kernel and thats it? Or have I got to do more than just rooting and aplyimg the kernel?

Did you root using CF Root or CF auto root? Auto root doesn't use clockworkmod, if you used auto root you will need to use the .tar or flash clockwork mod via rom manager (available in the play store.)
Appart from that just install the kernel.
I used cf auto root in odin, could you write down the steps I will need to go through to apply this kernel so I can overclock, im fairly new to this so I get confused very easily lol

Through CWM, this will not increase your binary counter however in the latest bootloader booting to custom recover sets it to 1.
Download the .zip file and save it to your internal sd card (less chance of failure)
Download rom manager from the play store
Open rom manager and select "flash clockworkmod recovery"
Confirm your phone model
Follow any other on screen instructions
Then when it's flashed switch your phone off
Hold Vol up, home and power button to boot to recovery
Select install zip from sd card
Select choose zip from sd (something similar)
Select the zip file, then scroll to "yes"
Wait for it to flash and reboot
Through Odin (this will increase your binary counter.)
Download the .tar version
Open Odin
Click the PDA button
Select the .tar file you downloaded
Put your phone in download mode (Vol down, home and power)
Connect your phone to your PC
Ensure repartition is NOT selected
Click start and wait for the phone to reboot
Then check the kernel version in settings, about device.

Sorry I post so much, as its my first time rooting im just worried about messing up my phone, so I have rooted my 4.1.2 and to apply this kernel is it best to do it through mobile odin, pc odin or through recovery on my phone?
Another question is that when you say internal sd, is that the normal memory inside the phone or a micro sd card?

You don't need clockworkmod intalled to flash it, just tap flash clockworkmod and it should flash it.
Then boot to recovery to install the siyah zip file.
The flash counter (or binary counter) is a value in the bootloader that changes whenever something unofficial is flashed through Odin whether it's root, rom, recovery, kernel anything. Samsung have used it for awhile to stop people who have used custom firmware just flashing a stock rom then getting a warranty service, There are however ways to reset the flash counter to claim a warranty service if needed.

If you downloaded it on your phone's browser it will be in /sdcard/Download, if you downloaded it on a PC browser it will either have gone where you put it, or into user\Downloads.

is there any easy way to backup my original factory firmware so after I flash a new ROM and I won't like it I can revert back to what factory gave me?
Best you can do is root your phone, and do a nandroid backup in CWRecovery before doing anything else to the phone (flashing a custom rom/kernel/etc). This will give you a 'snapshot' of your stock setup only with root, and all you'd need to do to unroot is flash a stock kernel.
Or you can simply flash a stock rom with Odin over whatever you have at the time.
There's no way to do what you're asking with a stock/unrooted phone.
As mentioned above u can't do it with out rooting. First root your phone without flashing any custom rom or kernel by pasting the zip file in ext sd and apply update using stock recovery. Then download recovery tools from play store and get your temporary cwm touch recovery. After this go to stock recovery and apply this zip. Then do a nandroid backup and reboot after it finishes. You'll have the exact stock rom, kernel and recovery. :good:

Dont worry dude. i'll try and explain as much as i can.
1. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794 and choose the Root_SuperSU.0.96.Only-signed.zip or Root_SuperSU.0.98.Only-signed.zip from the attachments.
2. Paste it in your ext sd card and power off.
3. Reboot into recovery mode and choose apply update from sdcard and select the SuperSU file.
4. Now reboot your device and it will be successfully rooted and SuperSU will be installed.
5. Download temporary cwm recovery from their website or get it via recovery tools in play store. (link provided by you is correct except for different language i think )
6. Paste cwm.zip it in ext sd and reboot into recovery mode. apply update and you will get temporary cwm recovery.
7. Now you can take backup from it. it will backup all your data and both rom, kernel and even recovery will be stock.
Be careful while flashing roms or kernels though. :good:
I'm currently on pacman ROM v22. and i want to go back to stock jelly bean. I do have a nandroid backup but when I try to restore it fails. I guess its because of the latest cwm I.e. v 6.0.4. right? how should I restore the backup now? please help.. I'd be thankful

If you know what version of recovery you used to make the backup, install the kernel with that version of recovery. If the kernel does not match your current operating system, the phone will not boot into the system, but it should boot into recovery and allow you to restore the backup.
Or you could just flash the I777UCMD8 stock firmware with Odin, which you can download from the Download Repository.
as far as I remember I used v6.0 of cwm with the stock kernel.. yeah I was using stock kernel when I had v 6.0 of recovery.. should I downgrade to v6.0 cwm and try?
so I downgraded cwm to 6.0.1.0.. I guess that's the version I was using when I made backup.. tried to restore.. error: MD 5 mismatch

I downgraded recovery to 6.0.1.0 now I can't update it back to 6.0.4.5.. rebooted system.. and booted it back to recovery now that when I try to upgrade cwm I get error: couldnt mount SD card.. and when I checked my kernel has been replaced with cynogenmod #1 from aj kernel.. how should I get back the cwm 6.0.4.5 (I have .zip file is SD card but it won't mount in cwm) please help!

You can defeat the md5 check if you are absolutely certain that the nandroid backup is not corrupted. Sometimes just changing the file name of a nandroid backup will mess up the md5 sum, but the file is still good. But if you try to install a corrupt nandroid file by defeating the md5 check, you can do serious harm to the phone.
In this case I would not recommend even going there. It's no problem to flash the stock firmware using Odin. Yes, you will need to perform a wipe data/factory reset first, and yes you will lose your apps and personal settings, but there are backup programs for that. I would recommend this route.

There's also the option of using titanium backup restore the apps and settings of your nandroid backup.
settings > extract from nandroid backup > [select backup] > choose which apps/data that you want to restore.

well that's cool cryil.. but unfortunately I have no app & data backed up in my nandroid backup.. its just the stock ROM and settings.. while I was flashing the latest cwm I by mistake deleted my phone data.. so there is nothing just the stock ROM..
I just want to restore my nandroid backup to return to stock ROM.. I am away from PC for sometime so flashing with Odin is not possible at the moment.. I don't know what to do now..

I'm not sure about that one.
But, you can still boot into your custom rooted firmware? If so, you can use Mobile Odin Pro or Mobile Odin Lite to flash the stock firmware from the phone.

yeah phalanx you're absolutely right. I flashed cwm recovery from ROM manager.. I didn't read stickies.. so I was not aware about the ROM manager causing problem thing.. anyways I got v6.0.1.0 of cwm after flashing from ROM manager.. I reeboted phone successfully.. checked kernel.. it was still the stock kernel.. If I'm not wrong flashing cwm replaces the kernel? anyways.. then I booted to recovery.. made nandroid backup.. upgraded cwm to 6.0.4.5.. flashed pacman ROM successfully.. and now that when I want to restore the nandroid backup it gives MD 5 mismatch error.. any suggestions ?

You can not install a .zip package with Mobile Odin. You can install the stock I777UCMD8 4.1.2 ICS firmware with Mobile Odin. Mobile Odin recognizes .tar and .tar.md5 files. The stock distribution, which you can download from the Download Repository, (see link in my signature) is a .tar.md5 file. Mobile Odin requires root access, so the following assumes you have a rooted firmware on the phone that will fully boot into the system.
Download Mobile Odin from this thread. Download the flash kernel from post #10 of the same thread. Install both apk's on your phone.
Download the UCMD8 .tar.md5 to the root of the internal sd card. I hope you have access to wifi because that is a pretty large file. Boot into recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. Boot back into the system. Mobile Odin will now recognize the .tar.md5 file so that you can flash it. Once you flash it, you will have lost root, and will have fully stock firmware and kernel.

Once you have both the main application and the flash kernel installed on your phone, open Mobile Odin, scroll down and touch Open file..., select internal sdcard, and then select the .tar.md5. You should be able to figure out the rest from there.
I successfully flashed i777UCMD8 from mobile odin and didnt even lose root.. thanks creepyncrawly!
I'm having problem connecting mouse from otg.. when I try to connect my phone turns off and takes so much time to start..?? also i am having problem connecting hdmi through mhl.. keeps on connecting and disconnecting..??
