[Q] Device Administration Profile issue - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At work we use Lotus Notes. Coming from iPhone to Nexus 4, I am not interested in having one app for personal mail, and the bloated **** of Lotus Traveler app for work mail *which everyone here says kills the battery*.
So I managed to use the same manual exchange settings that I push to our iPads to make the native email app work. The problem now is that after I nand-restored the lotus side of email doens't work and if I remove and readd the exchange account, I don't get prompted to re-install the device administrator profile.
I've been trying to find on the server how/where that push comes from with no luck, I've tried searching the googles for how to.
Anyone know what files to remove from teh device to get this to work again?

Turned out something with cyanogen mod ROM from that day. Problem removing and reinstalling mail works now.

OK...
So I've got 2.1, got it rooted and until I have the time to get rid of that horrible blue I thought I'd give Timescape another go... First up, big fail on the call log, but maybe they'll sort that with the next update later this year...
Then I had a look at using the standard e-mail so I would have my mail in Timescape. I'd been using the gmail app and moxier (for my exchange account at work). After playing around I've got two questions:
1. I had read that the android e-mail app supports exchange in 2.1 but it won't accept the details from my work server. Has anyone got an exchange account to work with the standard mail app? Or has SE decided we don't need this because we've got Moxier?
2. This may be pretty simple, but I just want to move an e-mail from my inbox to a folder.... is this not possible, or am I an idiot? (these aren't necessarily mutually exclusive )
EDIT: I read up again on this today - the active sync support is in 2.1, but it is up to the manufacturer to implement it due to licensing costs (google doesn't want to be giving microsoft money now, does it ) Which means we're stuck with moxier. All I really wanted was one calendar with everything in it (exchange and google) but the only way I can see of doing that is with a desktop sync, and we don't have desktop access to our exchange server as it is hosted (terminal server or active sync only...)

Hi,
I'm also afraid of using Moxier for Exchange sync and it's normally a "no go" for me.
But I don't have the update in Germany right now so I'll wait....and sell it after updating
I don't know why they (have to) use Moxier, but the integration has not taken place.
No merge of Moxier and X10 calendar! No Moxier widget that can be used instead.
But I think that there are not much people out there who miss the "integrated" Excange sync.
I've played with two other devices and I intend to change.
You can try K9 or ShangMail. Pretty cool apps for push email.

Oh well, thanks anyway guys. I guess I'll just have to keep things as they were...

[Q] How to delete IMAP emails from SGSII?

Hi,
I am trying to delete emails from my IMAP account an my SGSII (Samsung stock emailing programm).
Now my problem is that all emails I delete once just reappear the next time I sync with my IMAP account. So its simply impossible to delete emails on my phone.
This problem also exists on the GalaxyTab as far as I know.
Hotmail works fine(but hotmail doesnt use IMAP as far as I know).
One simple solution would be to just not use the samsung emailing program. I tried K9 today, but I kinda dont like the fact that it doesnt come with an widget. I also like the stock program better.
Any clue what I am doing wrong?
its also not possible to open most attachments directly from inside the emailing application(.pdf,.jpg etc.).
It does work occationally but must of the time it doesnt.
Solved:
Not using Polaris Office did the trick for me.

How did you resolve the IMAP email problem? I'm experiencing the same behaviour. Gmail IMAP works fine (with the stock email client, not the stock Gmail client). However, my work email which is IMAP doesn't work correctly.
I simply stopped using the stock program.
And now I kinda started to love K9.
But K9 didn't get along with my hotmail account(it has no IMAP;always redownloaded old emails;I had a data usage of 200mb in one day^^) so I started to auto. redirect all my mails to gmail. That works flawless til now.
oh man, same here!
I use the same settings on Nexus One, V880 or even Ipod Touch, both works except SG2! any clue yet?
No I didnt find no solution.
I am happy with K9 now .
Greets.
Apparently using POP instead of IMAP, you have the option to delete from the server... Of course IMAP is supposed to do this anyway, but worth considering POP - especially if the other advantages of IMAP are of no interest to you.
Personally, folder synchronisation means nothing if it can't even sync deleted emails...
I tried to chase this up with Samsung support, but of course they're useless... It's obviously a software bug, but they suggested a reflash and then trip to the service centre if that doesn't fix it...
We all know a trip to the service centre will certainly not fix it if a reflash wont...
Curiously, I've got a VHA ROM on my phone, and wondering what everyone else has, presuming it might be an issue in the branded ROM, but not in the generic ROM...
I'm sure I'm not the only one who cares, but I did a little bit of research, and although it doesn't seem to help, there's setting the IMAP path prefix (usually 'INBOX'), which should direct deleted emails into INBOX.Trash as opposed to the android Trash folder, and therefore delete them off the server.
Sadly, trying 20 variations, I still couldn't get it to work... but it might work with your email provider (just didn't with mine)
If all else fails, and you really want to use the Samsung email app (which I do, since K9 does not have activesync Exchange support - only the other one, which doesn't help me), instead of deleting emails, just go: Menu/Move to Folder/INBOX.Trash - this is the same as what Delete should be doing...
Hope that helps somewhat...
same issue: any solution found yet?

[Request] Can someone please port the email.apk from the Charge

I know this sounds crazy but the email app from the Charge works with my Roadrunner email account - the email app from the Fascinate does not. I tried to push it with root explorer on my rooted Fascinate but it force closes when i launch it. Anyone wiling to help? Thanks so much.
my roadrunner works on mine. what problem are you having?
I get connection problems. I am on the roadrunner.com server not rr.com and the incoming and outgoing settings take when setting up but when checking email, it gives a connection problem via a yellow bar that appears.
Settings I use:
u: [email protected]
pop-server.roadrunner.com 110
mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com 25
I'm having this issue with my hotmail account. I had to download a hotmail app.

I've read other posts where its been a known issue with the fascinate's email app and how it interacts with certain pop3 servers. I think they resolved it in the Charge since I tried my email account on co-worker's phone.
Just use another email app
Thanks, but with all due respect, that's not the point...if the gps didn't work, then just buy a garmin? And if the phone camera froze when taking pics then just use a traditional camera?
Try searching for the email.apk from the Galaxy Tab. That works on our phones, and mighty fix your problem.
I use pop-server.cinci.rr.com since I'm in Cincinnati. Double check your server address. It works great on my fascinate on the tw email app.

Why don't you just have your gmail get it for you?

This make absolutely no sense. I said just get another email app, There are definitely email apps in the Market. Your telling me to go spend money on something else. If your normal email app doesn't work just go get another app, its not hard.
Here you go Even deodexed it for you
I pushed file to system/app thhen changed permissions and removed the old email.apk but when I reboot, I get a looping forceclose of the process com.android.email even before I attempt o launch it. Has anyone else tested this?
I copied the Galaxy Tab email.apk from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810454
Root Explorer - copy\move existing email.apk to a backup folder and then copy\move new .apk to app folder. Clicked on it, installed, and reconnected to email account.
sadly, corporate email administrator settings for security lock on screen timeout still doesnt work. Otherwise, it works and looks nice.
Update: suddenly stopped delivering new mail and no manual refresh button. If these 2 things can be resolved by a developer this would be a great email app on the Fascinate, though it does have a distinct ipad feel to it. . Pinch zoom works and in landscape you can roll each pane separately.
Second Update: tried flashable version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12011499#post12011499
gives manual refresh option, but is not working with Exchange. ( wont download current day mail, only day prior and beyond). sending works fine.
supposedly works with non- Exchange accounts.

Problem setting up iCloud account on Xperia

Since i bought this magnificent phone I am having problems with getting this work with my iCloud account. I can confirm that it is working through thunderbird, but now via stock Mail app. Any suggestions or just Apple is blocking Android?
You should look at the logcat, Java is usually quite verbose when it comes to exceptions. Might give you at least some idea where to look.
I've noticed that my iCloud email is running a lot slower on android over the past week. If I delete an email on the computer then open it p on the phone and sync I takes a while for it to actually update the email list. It still works and I get my mail and can send it just takes a lot longer than it used to.
iCloud email accounts (.mac and. .me) use dynamic mail stops. If you can pull the server settings from Mail.app you'll have better performance, not perfect, but generally speaking the account won't work with non-Apple apps.

Email Sync/Push question

So there are two email apps in the S3, Gmail and what appears to be the stock Samsung email client.
in order to use Gmail (push) it seems you have to keep "Sync" enabled in the options. the question is, is enabling this consumes battery by constantly polling/syncing, or is this Sync another name for Push (as in server notifies device rather than the device polling)?
I am trying to figure out what is the best way to setup push. using the Samsung email app, it appears to be true push without the need to have "Sync" on the device enabled.
the gmail app is the closest thing to "push" for all non-exchange email clients.
so i'd say if you use gmail and not exchange - use the app
both email clients can be configured for push, but gmail requires "sync" option enabled on the phone. the samsung email client doesn't require Sync to be enabled for push email..
i think i will stick with samsung email client.. seems better for push email without having to enable Sync (which might use more battery).
thanks guys
helped me also!
Guys, if you know what you are saying here, you have the solution I'm looking for since I got the S3.
The samsung galaxy s3 email client has no push option, at least I haven't found it. It used to have it in the S2. So enlight me please, how do you push gmail, yahoo, etc on samsung email?

someone posted this on another forum:
I am writing this because I want to help all these people who want to have push email when using the stock Email application on Galaxy S3 and other Android phones. I used to have a Blackberry and I find it extremely easy to use the push email option.
It is really extremely easy. This is the step-by-step process:
1. Go to phone Settings.
2. Go to Accounts and Synch.
3. Select Add Account.
4. On the screen that shows up, select Email.
5. On the next screen write your email account (eg. [email protected]) and
your password.
6. Click on Manual Setup (DO NOT CLICK ON NEXT).
7. On the next screen choose Microsoft Exchange Active Synch (yes, this is the correct one, do not be surprized!).
8. On the field Domain\user name, make sure that you have your complete email address, preceded by a \ (ie. \[email protected]).
9. Your password should also be entered (it is done automatically, but if it
is not, add it yourself).
10. In the field Echange Server use m.google.com (check with other email providers what you shoud use - I use a gmail based email service so I can not help you here, but I am sure that it is easy to find out).
11. Check Use Secure Connection and uncheck Use Client Certificate.
12. Click Next and OK if an information box pops up.
13. Change the Account options as desired and click Next.
You are all set. It works like a charm for Gmail accounts, you should make sure it works also for other services / email providers.
Good luck!

I personally use yahoo, and I still haven't found a way to make it work yet. But, gmail, according to what I've read so far, it should work just fine.
I already gave a try to the method above. It works, bute it has a few drawbacks:
1. It uses more data, more battery, more awake time than the push email client on the S2.
2. It works only for gmail, not yahoo. Because yahoo is greedy and wants money for an Exchange feature.
