Left my phone unplugged overnight and lost 10% while sleeping 100 to 90 in 9 hours wtf. Here is screenshot of usage. Charging though.
Any thoughts?
Stock not rooted etc. Also when I kill all apps. Available apps. Memory used is still like over a gig.

seems normal, only thing else to do would be prolly drop mobile data while sleeping if you want a bit more out of it without hitting airplane mode.
1% an hour of idle that would make it only a 100 hour or less idle phone. I thought this idled for like 800hours

No smartphone will last 33 days idle with wireless radios and what not turned on.
Still have over a gig of RAM used after clearing it out? Mine drops below 600MB when I clear it. Maybe you have a malicious app installed? Try an antivirus app and see if it detects anything. Personally I'd probably just factory reset to be safe.

You should reboot at least once a day.
No wayyyyy I go for uptime records im at 60 days on the s3. And when I clear ram it goes to 600. There should never be a reason to reboot

Your micromanagement of ram is probably part of your battery drain.

Leave your freaking memory management to the OS. You are not smarter than your phone, you're murdering your battery life AND performance.
If you kill all apps, your phone's going to sit there for the next 90 seconds re-launching half the stuff you just closed, pegged at 100% CPU.
Even so, if you're sitting there on LTE, 1% per hour is perfectly normal.
The other thing with cell standby being as high as it is, you might be getting signal loss or excessive network switching.
Signal loss is the bane of battery life on any device.

I let my phone run down to 10% for the first time since I bought it 3 weeks ago, it was at 2 days 14 hours when I put it on the charger. It took 4.5 hours to get back to 100%. Now I know I can charge every other day instead of daily which should be better for my battery.
I agree with Travis that a reboot should be done every day, and never use a task killer, Let the phone manage your memory and quit worrying about it,
I never use a task killer. However I never reboot. I dont see a need seeing how stable it is. Unix based. Like... my other phones have had 60 days and still stable and fine. My tablets over 100 still going fine.. reboot shouldnt ever be necessary.

No, not UNIX based.
GNU/Linux based running a virtual machine for your applications, which are Java. It is stable, but not (and never will be) as stable as UNIX or even pure GNU/Linux. Java VMs in themselves aren't exactly the most stable things and despite GC can slow down at times and have other quirks. In a perfect world where every Android app dev is super dev and codes perfectly, then a reboot would never be needed.
That said, you have mentioned several times ending all tasks on your phone...you are using the built-in task manager from Samsung which is still a bad idea.

Me?
About 10 times a day, but that is because I am using the phone when building android apps and end up hot rebooting myself half the time when I screw something up
Is bragging about up time, a stat that no one cares about, (for good reason) more important then battery life and stability?
I could leave my car running for a pretty long time and brag about that. Take it to the gas station and pump the gas while still running and all. But that's a really bad idea.
The only benefit is an imaginary number that is only important to you, while sacrificing real word performance.
I restart my phone probably once or twice a day on average. Sometimes I don't restart it all, others I do maybe 3 or 4 times.
I definitely recommend a reboot everyday. Not only for android devices, computers also.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
Why are people so adamant about a reboot every day? Seriously, that was sort of necessary like 10 years ago, but modern devices really don't require it. They have enough disk/processing/memory capacity to be able to dynamically allocate resources without getting all messed up. It was a big deal when RAM was expensive and page files/swap spaces were heavily used because magnetic hard disk access is slow, especially when you have to read/write/modify a page file all the time. That's not an issue many modern PCs (I've had my page file turned off for a few years now.. well, mostly off, it's set to 16MB because some programs don't work with it off) and certainly not an issue on phones without dedicated swap space..
Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see it. Especially if you're on a high-end device. I reboot my phone/computer when something requires it, such as windows updates, driver updates, needing to flash something in recovery, etc. The "once a day" mark is really arbitrary, especially in a usage-independent context. Just reboot it when it needs it.

Absolutely this. Rebooting arbitrarily is 100% unnecessary.
The G2 has a fantastic battery already, why not make it even better?
I like to see how far I can push this phone's battery. In no way does that mean that you need too as well, but for those of you that do want a few more hours or another day, I'm happy to share what I've learned.
After I've spent time learning the quirks of this phone, and most of its respective ROMs, I've come up with quite a few tricks for improving battery life, some specific to this phone, some just in android general. I now get average 3-4 days battery life, when I use the phone quite often during the day all day long.
It is your personal preference on how much of android's background services that you use compared to apps. This is only suggestions for the users that want to improve battery life.
Heres some of the simplest questions you can ask yourself when you go through the settings center:
Do I really need this feature enabled? Do I use it often? Even if I do occasionaly use it, is it that much of a pain to just turn on when I need it?
Do I really need GPS on 24/7? How often do I really use GPS?
How many apps do I need running in the background?
Do I need to keep autobright on, or keep the screen super bright?
That being said, here are some of the simple things that Ive done.
I keep everything off unless I use it every day.
I keep GPS off 24/7, I never use it.
Out of habit, I always close all apps.
I keep autobright off and keep the screen on 14 brightness. Unless Im right outside in the sun its easy to see, and if I am I can just turn it up with the quick setting.
Some of the more advanced stuff I do, that completely varies on your ROM:
Go through all the system apps and freeze anything you dont use. Example being the Picasa uploader (for me at least).
Leave as little system services running as you need. You wouldent believe how many unneeded services android runs. On the stock roms there are TWO location daemons running.
Currently Im using CleanROM, I switch between it and Cyanogen about once a week, just cant make up my mind on stability v. features, but on CleanROM, some of the stuff I have currently froze
Nearly anything involving Verizon, the carrier APKs are massive bloatware.
I disabled a lot of google services, some people may rely on these, personally I dont, the biggest two google apps I use are chrome and Gmail.
If your on a stock based ROM, disable the LG services you dont use. Textlink wastes a huge amount of power, as does QSlide.
(This applies alot more to carrier based roms than it does Cyanogen/AOSP, but even they do have a few unneccesary servcices.) Be careful when you are touching system services, if you dont know what one does, a google on its function is helpful.
Use a different launcher. Excluding the stock google launcher, most factory launchers are very inefficient, LG Home is no exception. Personally, I use SmartLauncher, a very light and very nice looking launcher with a fantastic layout. Nova I know is very light on resources aswell.
The more widgets you have cluttering your screen, the more power they will waste.
I can personally confirm myself that Kitkat based roms have incredible battery life after they settle in for a few days, the kernel level improvements brought with KitKat are very noticable. Currently Gummy Rom and three CM11 builds exist for KitKat, why not give them a try?
If you have unusually high battery usage, check your wakelocks, and see what exactly is using all the power, and you can disable/turn it off and remove that battery drain.
On a final note, comeon guys turn your phones off at night. I have yet to hear a good reason to leave it running over night, all it does is waste power and most commonly let the notification light run for 8 hours. If you use your phone as a alarm, you could turn on airplain mode overnight.
These are just some of the things that I do, if you have any more suggestions, feel free to post them or message me, I'll be glad to add them to the list.
I do not own this device but whats the point of turning all the feature of your phone off just to get a couple more hours out of it just use it like you should and stop worrying too much...
My 2 cents.

I'll say this again, not everyone is aware of some of the lower level services that android runs that are completely pointless and cause a lot of wakelocks. This drills some's battery life down to 8hrs or less, which they then complain about. You would be surprised at the amount of stuff I have enabled.

Honestly people should just enjoy the phone rather than trying to make it last longer. If your phone can make it through the day then consider that a successful phone.
I assumed everyone used their phone as an alarm. I never turn my phone off subsequently.
Some nice hints for someone needing more battery; however, I disagree with your assertion that closing applications saves power. Assuming you need to open the application again it would make sense to leave the application running (idle) in cached ram.

It completely depends on how often said application is opened, and what it does while idle. I know out of hand while I'm at work I see several people with 3-4 games left open on their phone, this is more what I was reffering too.

I wrote this late last night, so I didnt have time to look through the list of everything I froze, but I'll add it to the OP in the next few minutes since I have a few free moments.
I was checking my data usage today and noticed that over the weekend I used ~750 MB of data. Looking closer, my phone says it was mainly due to GlanceViewMk. GlanceViewMk used 723MB of background data and almost 40 MB of foreground data. Over the weekend, I was out shopping and let my son use my phone. He was playing Dr Panda's airport, Temple Run, and Cut the Rope. In the 45 or so minutes he used it, my battery went from ~85% to basically dead. I thought it was a little odd at the time, but I think thats when it happened. He was right in front of me in the cart so I know he wasn't doing anything out the ordinary.
Any ideas why GlanceViewMk would use so much data? Luckily I still have unlimited data otherwise that would have been an overage. Some screenshots are attached.
Using HyperDrive ROM. Have not installed many apps lately or anything crazy.
Anyone have any thoughts?
That's weird I thought glance view was the feature where you wave your hand in front of the proximity sensor when the screen's off and it displays the time plus missed notifications. How could that use 700mb of data?

On paper this is the best galaxy s ever, we all know that, but I have had this phone for 2 weeks now, and I have had the worst android experience on any phone, I had owned every phone on the galaxy s line since the beginning.
I haven't seen any phone with more lags or software flaws than this one.
To begin, the wakeup lag, sometimes more than 10 secs for the phone to wakeup.
The sd card read/write lag, I change my sd card to a Samsung top notch one, and the lag is still noticeable.
Memory issues, I recreates thisnissues in may ways, open up a game (plants vs zombies 2) play for a couple of mins, lock the phone, and see if you can weke it up.
I noticed a bit more smotthnes after the updatw but still the performance on this phone is just awful.
I hope this is an isolated issue, but I have seen a lot of people complaining about the lag as well.

Yes, it might be a "T-Mobile" version problem, I am pretty sure this are software related problems, I would like to see it running on a vanilla version of android, it has to be TouchWiz messing it up, but anyway, this had to be thoroughly tested before releasing it to the public, shame on T-Mobile/Samsung, hope a fix is on the way.

Try using the international stock roms. On the S4, those were MUCH better that the US version roms. I know it requires rooting, but you'll probably be happier and it doesn't really matter if you're outside your return period anyway.

Great phone, no issues, where did you buy yur phones?
I've had the phone for a while now and it hasn't lagged once, the fingerprint scanner works over 90% of the time, and signal is good as well. Yeah, the HR monitor is a total gimmick, but to say this phone is "the worst galaxy" is a bit extreme.
So either I got extremely lucky and got 2 phones without any problems, or some people are getting unlucky with their purchase.

Sometimes, no matter what I've tried, I'll be using the phone and let the screen turn off, When I push the home button, nothing, the phone is still running but I can't see anything, I try to use the power button and again nothing, I have to pull the battery and restart the phone to get it working. There is a group of people that are experiencing the problem and at first people thought it may be SD card related but it is not conclusive at this point. It will work fine sometimes for days, then all of a sudden pull the above mentioned crap.
Exactly, onlast Sunday every time I locked the screen it would never wakeup, I had to remove the battery like 3 times, it has been OK for the las 2 days though, but this is frustrating, I mean, I haven't even rooted the phone yet, I read that 4.4.3 is on its way, hope that addresses these performance issues.

Yes I agree this phone is very laggy specially the camera they send me a "new" phone and the problem still there, also i usually charge it at night
and this morning the screen was on the boot screen logo i had to remove the battery it sucks
So, I keep researching the reasons of why some of us have this issues, today I went to the "t-mobile my account" app, went to options and deselected all the options (ALL OF THEM), and I notice the fun is a lot smoother, probably the placebo effect, but I will keep trying for a couple of days, if you guys want give it a try.

I've only had the phone for about a week but it's amazing so far, I upgraded from a S2. I play Ingress constantly and lately I've been able to play for 4+ hours at a time before needing to recharge and that's just on the stock battery. I removed all the bloatware I could and turned most everything off just to try and squeeze out every little bit of battery life. The only thing bugging me about the phone so far is that root would void my warranty and I'm a little upset about that but meh, it's not like I ever needed it I'm just a little worried because the phone is so new. I might just wait until the 12 months is up and root the phone then. So far I don't really have a reason to need root but I'm sure that desire will gain in traction as new tools for the device get released. I'm mostly thinking about mods like Cyagenmod, that will be one of the reasons I root and break Knox if I do before the warranty.

Hey all. Recently switched to T-Mobile and got the g2. I immediately rooted it to customize things how I wanted them. Everything I have been doing has been with WiFi enabled. I never turn it off, honestly. In just about 10 days, I hit my 3 gig data cap, and have no idea how. I was rooted, and thought my Rom could be part of the reason, so I KDZ flashed back to stock. Now all my data usage is wiped, but obviously still at data cap. Is there anyway I could take it into the store? It's going to look really bad on my end when I tell them I factory reset my phone because I hit data cap, but it just doesn't make sense. I never came anywhere close to 3 gigs of data on Verizon, and that was a whole months use with not much WiFi involved. A bit irritated right now.... any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your rom is indeed part of the reason you hit the cap so quickly. I've only got 2gb of data myself so I understand. I'd try a different rom, I wouldn't bother bringing it into a store as they will know your rooted unless of course your out of warranty but either way don't give them the benefit of them even knowing

You could try re-flashing the ROM and take a look at what's draining your data. I'm sure the ROM's creator(s) would like to know if there's a bug that is causing excess bandwidth usage.
This thread is worth looking at. It might be a setting you made or app you installed, or some setting/app in the particular ROM you installed that you enabled or is enabled by default. ghling's issue was that certain services were constantly trying to sync, but syncing was disabled because of something he installed because he didn't want those services, so it just kept trying to sync over and over and over, causing massive bandwidth usage.

Well, it seems the denied access rights were the problem, after reverting them (or better: disable app ops for the play services) everything is back to normal. It's a bit strange that it took some days until the problem occurred, but that's how it sometimes is.
Thank you again for your help.

What does he mean by denied access rights? Thanks!
Not sure if this helps or not but I've noticed the rom I am currently running all of the sudden shows 4G and WiFi running at the same exact time. That seems to be a possible issue I think... I have to check my usage to be sure

You don't happen to be running SlimRom are you? I think that was the issue most likely. I was downloading a large KDZ, while on wifi, and all of a sudden my browser data usage jumped to 1.5 gig's out of no where. This was actual data usage, not wifi usage.
It might be worth to double-check with T-Mobile if you really actually hit your data limit. I heard some bad news about their business practices and I could imagine them trying to skim off some data bandwidth from people that would not hit their data limit. Just a thought ... I might be wrong, though

He used an app to deny access rights to certain Google services. Permissions is a better word, since that's what Android uses. He didn't want them to connect to the internet for syncing, but the app he used to deny permissions didn't stop the services from trying, which caused it to be constantly trying/failing, which used up his data allotment.
It's entirely possible that the ROM you flashed has some sort of syncing or updating issue with some app or service and is doing the same thing. You should have checked to see what was using all your data before doing a reset.
