USB OTG works!! I can see my flash drive in the Settings/Storage, but can't seem to read it using ES File Explorer and my wireless mouse works perfectly. Anybody else try it?
EDIT: Astro File Manager reads all of my flash drives.
omg....they actually listen to us?!
I take it that you are running stock, not rooted or anything?
im stock rooted. before my external hard drive would just say "unable to charge device." now it ways that and that the disk is either blank or an unsupported format, so at least it recognizes it.
a usb mouse works fine. there is a cursor once its plugged in. wireless mouse works too.
my wireless keyboard is recognized, and there is even an inpu under select input, but nothing happens.
I've played some games with a USB controller. For some reason it won't power my wired Xbox 360 controller though. OTG is what I've really been waiting for. Hopefully I can use USB host and mhl at the same time with the adapter. Big screen gaming baby!

To read a USB on es file explorer go to root then storage and USB is in there. I already tried it and android by default doesn't support NTFS it needs to be added by a dev

I can confirm this also and it does work. The only problem i have is when removing the flash drive. If i do as we're suppose to and go to settings>storage> and scroll all the way to the bottom and select "unmount usb storage" before disconnecting, it also unmounts my sdcard and i have to manually select "mount usb storage". Anyone know why it unmounts both??? I am running the newest jb rom, it's rooted stock rom with s-on and a custom recovery and backup. Not a big deal, just wondering if anyone else noticed this or is everyone else just removing the drive and hoping not to damage the drive or a file on it or even possibly their evolte????
Men the s3 connect straight up...freaking EVO just sits there looking stupid...no ps3 controller

I would like to confirm that PS3 controller DOES NOT WORK with JB with OTG setup on a stock device.
Has anyone tried using a USB splitter and connecting to devices at the same time, for a example a keyboard and a mouse working at the same time

I know this is an old thread, but I'm wondering if anyone has been able to successfully use a wired xbox controller. I've been using an OTG cable with the external power connector (although I haven't had to actually use external power for anything I've tried so far). I was able to get wired and wireless mice, wired/sireless keyboards, and fat32 and ntfs flash drives to work. I also connected a keyboard, mouse, and flash drive all at once using a usb hub and they all worked fine. The only think I haven't been able to get to work is my xbox controller. With or without power, when plugged in, it just flashes once every several seconds while plugged in. Nothing seems to recognize it.
This is the only thread that came up in the General Forum for the LTEvo that mentions xbox controllers... Anyone have any ideas?
I'm running Viper4G 3.1.5 with S-Off.

yes, because I use my computer as a TV. It has a tv tuner with antennae and remote control. I have a 27" monitor. I don't have a separate TV.
Why dont you just... you know, connect your phone to your PC using an USB cable and open directly the files on your computer? higher quality (TV out is limited to 480i) and no extra software, just your phone and your video player software on your PC...

I have an app to watch many channels from my own country on my phone, these channels are not available in the US. This app work very well, and I want to be able to view these channels on my comp/tv. That's why I come up with this question.
Ah ok, that make more sense...
You only need to enter settings>display>tv out and activate it there. If it doesnt work, probably the cable you bought is not compatible, or some roms dont have tv out working, so maybe you sould try with an stock firmware, to see if the cable works.
Remember to switch the red and yellow cables to
Red-yellow
White-white
Yellow- red

Thanks for all your help. I will try.
Can we connect bt mouse to this awesome phone ? I Think its impossible with stock rom but with cm its possible
Thats possible and very simple. All you need is a cable MicroUSB=>USB with 5th extra-pin connected to the ground (its better looks at schemes and datasheets). Amazing but even stock firmware supports USB On-The-Go (wired and wireless) but only with .058. And why only mouses? Wireless keyboards and other stuff also just in case
That's nice, but is usb on-the-go supported in games ? Gta3 and others ?

Yep, keyboards and joystics are very easy and comfortable for some playing
Mouses is good for games like "Where Is My Water?", "Fruit Ninja" etc. and best for internet browsing.
But play GTA3 with mouse arrow at screen is freaking ugly...
How do you mean "But play GTA3 with mouse arrow at screen is freaking ugly..."
I was thinking to control gta 3 like on computer, not with the arrow on the screen, you know what i'm trying to say ?

Absolutelly dude But it's only ARROW mode available. Computer-like mouse control isn't supported
I'm shure they will soon fix that "problem" !
Im afraid there is no way to fix that problem. Im not sure but Android can work with mouses only in arrow mode
First of all sorry for getting this thread back, my question is related and we do not need a new one.
What about BLUETOOTH mouses, keyboards, joysticks ... does Xperia Mini Pro have the HID profile ? I could not find this info.
Wow, thread is so old.
You will need a usb otg cable.
A mouse or a keyboard with EXTERNEL power.
A kernel which support usb otg.
An apk that can make this work on your phone / support those things to work on your phone.

Hello,
This is my first thread opened on this forum.
I have an HTC Evo 3D wich i use also as a navigation device (iGo).
iGO maps and content are stored (usually) on the SD card.
I also use my HTC Evo 3D as a storage device for my music wich i play (via an USB cable) trough my car audio system.
This means that my car audio powers the Evo 3D.
In order to listen to my music i have to set my phone as a "disk drive" in order to acces my SD card.
This means that iGO cannot acces the SD card as it is UN-MOUNTED. If iGO cannot access the content from the SD it will not work.
QUESTION: is it possible to instal iGO and all of it's content directly on the phone? (space will not be an issue as i use 2 to 5 maps when i travel trough europe).
QUESTION: is there a piece of software that allows the SD card to be visible to Android and to an external device (such as my car audio)?
Thanks.

I forgot the exact name but there is a cord that plugs into the headphone jack of the phone, and it plays all audio through the car speakers, withput having to mount the sd card. Basically, the cord acts as headphones plugged from the phone to the car speakers...

That's a standard Auxiliary cable, I don't think that's what he wants.
I understand your problem OP, you may just have to put your music on a flash drive and run it from there.
This is why I don't like new cars. (;
I do that now (run my music from my usb flash). But, you know, it would be nice to charge my phone from my car audio and at the same time use my phone as a navigation and storage device.
I found an app on GooglePlay that promises to do just that (allow to use SD in multiple instances) but it does not work on ICS. The developer contacted by me said he was working on the issue.
I do not know how to present here the app because i'm new at using xda forum app but when i get to my laptop i will post a link.

Here's a Galaxy Nexus thread where someone tried to do that and it didn't work. If it doesn't work on a Nexus I doubt that it will on an Evo 3D since that phone was designed with OTG included.
What you could do is connect the drive to a PC then use an app like ES File Explorer to stream the movie to the phone over Wi-Fi and output it via MHL/HDMI. I know that will work.

Hey guys..
I have a WD 1tb HD which iz self powered...
I want to use it with my tab 2 p3100
I understand that tab cannot supply enough power to the self powered HD..
I have made a Y-cable for the purpose...
The HD lights up and vibrates indicating that its receiving power but unfortunately it doesn't show up on the tab..
Then I felt the cable might be the reason and I brought a usb power hub...
Its exactly the same situation with the usb power hub as well..
Plze help me out with getting my HD work with the tablet...
I have searched a lot but couldn't get a proper way to get things going...
My tab iz rooted with sungsonic hd v2 running...
USB power hub iz iball lappie...
WD HD uses usb 3 but tab doesn't recognize it with usb 2 cable as well..
Share it if u know it...

Install "USB device info" from the market, connect the HDD and see if the program can find the HDD.
If yes, it's very strange, and (IMHO) the problem is the tablet/kernel, because it can' t find a proper driver for the usb to sata box..
This is why the HDD and the usb to sata box haven't a logo like "made for android" or "work with android", because some android have some driver, and other android have other driver.
You can try to use another usb to sata box and see if it works with the same HDD...
A similiar problem come if you connect a webcam to your tablet, usb device info can see it but you can't use it without a proper app/custom kernel
Hope I've helped you a little bit,
Bye!
The HD has to be formatted FAT32 also as the TAB will not read NTFS unless you can find a custom kernel to allow it.

I don't think so. NTFS is a microsoft format and microsoft does not want to share the ability. So Android kernel by default does not read it. It's FAT32 or exFat I believe. I have heard that NTFSMount.apk may add that ability but I have never tried it. Your Tab needs to be rooted and mine is not.
Edit: Other apps on Google Play will do this but Tab must be rooted.
Well agree wid agoattamer
One need to have a rooted device for ntfs , there are various apps in play store for mounting NTFS / hfs formats, eq Paragon ex fats, ntfs
otherwise fat 32 is better one to go wid as it works wid both plateforms(windows n android)

Fat32 has a theorical limit of about 2TB, and it support max 4GB for a file.
It's on-sense for an external 3,5" hard drive to waste it's performance with this old (1996) file-system.
I prefer to root my tablet and enable other file-system like ntfs orr exfat aka fat64 for both platforms or an ext2/3/4
That may be a hardware issue. Try with an OTG cable or adapter plugged in USB connector of your P3100.
(OTG stands for On-The-Go whatever that means)
