[Q] Google search update introduced new bugs? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The recent update to Google search seems to have introduced some new bugs.
My I9300 is set to UK locale, yet after the update, a voice request "what is the weather in Portsmouth" spoke the answer in Fahrenheit and an American female voice instead of the previous Celcius and a UK voice.
I don't seem to be able to change it back again. Annoying!
With "Google Now" enabled, it can get the units correct, but still American voice. Anyway, I tend to keep Google Now switched OFF by default to save battery power.
Any ideas, apart from wait for another update?

go to google now.
menu>settings>google now>weather
choose Celsius.
and menu>settings>voice>language
choose english uk
good luck !

I've done exactly that and I still only get the American voice? Any thoughts?

International Use

I have the ATT Note unlocked and getting ready to go to the UAE for a few months for business. Will I still be able to use all the Google services there that I have here in the US.
Dubai is good to go for everything except google voice -- and that is just related to BlackBerry.
OK good...I'll be in Abu Dhabi, but want to make sure I can still use gmail and music. I know there was an issue with voice and features in gmail and they were going to block it. I don't care about voice though, I never use it anyway. Thanks for the info.
For sure google music is good to go.

[Q] updated to JB, but no google now

my friend's S3 recently received an update to JB. he updated it through Kies. He decided to test the new feature of the google search app called Google Now but he cant see it. Going to the settings of the said app, there should be an option for Google NOw there, but in his phone, there is none. Even the UI which is supposed to show mountains and cards is not in his S3's google search app, his is just plain search box UI.
What could be are the problems?
Look at your apps, it's simply called Google. (blue box, white G) and when launched it gives some info on Google now and asks if you want to use it. In Applications Manager it says Google Search.

Nope, it did not ask any questions whether we would like to use Google NOw
THE ANSWER IS: language of phone should be English(UNited States)...tsk tsk..
Well the language of my phone us English (United Kingdom), but thanks for your comment, I hope you get any further help you need with that kind of attitude.

Can't get rid of American voice for maps!!!

If anyone could help, that would be great.
Try as I might I cannot change the voice on my phone to UK English and not US English on my Z7 mini specifically for Google Maps.
I have been though all the settings and changed them to UK. The demo voice gives me a UK voice playback too.
I have uninstalled Pico TTS and installed Google TTS. I have a friend with a Z9 mini and that is teh same, it won't switch to UK English on Maps.
It switches to French and other foreign languages BTW.
Any ideas?
Another thing, the volume control for maps (under navigation settings) is also missing.
how about delete and re download the UK voices, then set as default then try and delete the merican voices (should be a rubbish bin icon next to them) all this is done in the android settings not google maps settings.
Hi Flamery,
Yeah tried all that, specifically trying to delete the American voices. It won't let you and there is no trash icon (Yet there is with the UK voices)

Google Assistant - My Day (UK)

HI, Just recently got google assistant on my Nexus 6P 7.1.2 Beta in the UK but i have been unable to find any mention of this "My Day" Feature or any of the ways detailed within other google assistant overviews on changing news poviders etc...
If anything i appear to have a watered down version of google assistant... but it is definately assistant before you ask...
Anyone else in the UK having a similar experiance??
Cheers
JC
Have you got assistant with language set to English (UK)? From what I've seen its only been enabled for English (US).
Strange goings on...
Well, i did a few weeks ago and posted the result on another thread but reset my phone after a few issues and when i did set it all to UK English so i was back to Google now... Google assistant randomly appeared on Saturday to my joy and I've been playing with it, that's how i discovered the missing parts when i tried to customise it... On the back of the post i put on last night i tried a reset/reboot of my phone and Google now has returned... I have no idea why it appeared in the first place and i did confirm prior to the reset/restart that my language was English UK... Strange goings on... And frustrating...
For the life of me, I still can't get Assistant to enable! What gives?

In regards to your first point; You can view the frequencies that are being used by the phone online (I usually use GSM arena or just a google search) and then compare them with your countries bands (also a quick google away). I am Australian and searched on my carriers website and they had a map showing where their coverage was in terms of each band. So I was able to work out that getting the phone would be fine for me for my daily life but when I leave that and go on a day trip or something I can sometimes get 1 bars in some places. (This is regarding my last phone by the way (mate 8))

that's what I used to do.. but I'm too lazy for that now - I just use kimovil
hmm, strangely I can't find the chinese version there.. it does have the chinese mate x 20 though
basically there is no limitation of software , including all the services of Google, Only thing that can not work is Google Maps Timeline, dont know why , it just cant work on the chinese version of phone
but there is a lot of limitation of software on the global version, huawei messaging app, huawei travel assitance, huawei voice assistant, etc
,
Google feed might not be available too.
My worry would be getting a faulty "green" screen and would need to return it, unless the manufacturer honours the warranty regardless where purchased? I had to exchange mine due to faulty lg screen, but it was an over the counter exchange by 3 UK, whom I bought it from. Luckily got a boe screen and it's fine.
google works fine with my chinese m20p..only issue was no no group message from system app, calendar not linking with system app.
HW Chinese model has some notifications delay problem but it get OS update much earlier/faster than international version and call recording feature

you can install google play store from the huawei store included on the phone - at least some people said that, as well I tried to find it on a phone in the huawei (physical) store (in china) and it had play available for install within the huawei app store. I have no idea about google services, I'm sure someone in this thread must have written about it.

Does "OK google" work well with your chinese m20pro? I also have a chinese one , tried but cannot enable google assistant voice match, it just greyed out.
I have the Mate 20 Pro Chinese Version, and Wifi calling for example is not included there.
