Questions about generic.kl and the capacitive buttons - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I edited generic.kl on beans rom to make the menu button the multitasking button. The question now is: is it possible to map the long press menu button to be the new menu button in a pinch, and if so how do I do that?
And another: how would one go about telling the OS it lacks a menu button like the One X?

HW Menu Button vs Multitask Button

On American Android phones with four hardware buttons - we generally have a Menu Key, a Home Key, a Back Key and a Search Key.
The new paradigm per ICS and HTC Ville leak is to have 3 hardware or software buttons, a Back Key, a Home Key, and a Multitask Key. The menu key should be in the new "Action Bar" strip in the program's UI.
When you upgrade a phone with the four old style hardware keys to ICS - the program's don't use an "Action Bar" design. Instead menu key functionality is preserved and to multitask you continue to hold the Home Key.
My question is this - why have the dichotomy in paradigm? Wouldn't it be simpler to force everyone into using an "Action Bar" and then reassigning the Menu Key to function as the new Multitask Key?
As iphone lead a one-key-phone, others aim to this target.
I've wondered that as well. Seeing how useful the multitask button is in the Nexus actually makes me frustrated that I have to hold the home button to bring up the multitask menu.
I guess they just want to preserve it so as not to confuse the pre-existing users.

Anyone know how to disable long press on buttons?

I made a mod for CM 10 that disables the capacitive buttons so the user can use GNex like on screen soft key nav.
I made a variation that also makes the home button the menu key. So pressing home brings up menu. The issue I have run into is when I mapped the Menu to home (menu and back are disabled) if you long press on the capacitive menu key it brings up recent apps. I cant seem to figure out how to disable the long press of that button.
If I disable all three buttons long press on menu doesnt work. It's only when I map the menu to the home button that it "enables" the long press on the capacitive menu button.
Anyone have any ideas?

[Q] thinking about buying HOX+ but i got a question

since ICS htc made phones with 3 keys back home and tasks while samsung and LG made back home and menu and long press on the home key take you to tasks...
so my question is that some old application that does not have the 3 dots at top that replacing the menu key let you access setting and more only by ptessing the menu key so....
my question is how does it work?
thank you for your answer
To get rid of the black settings bar, there's an option in settings. After that's changed, you have the option of short pressing the recent apps key for settings and long press for multitask/recent apps or vice versa.

[Q] Remap/change hardware button functionality?

Hi, I found some old threads about changing keylayout and stuff, but nothing recent (you know: since JB) and I just got the phone yesterday.
Right now, the phone does this:
Menu button press: menu
Menu button hold: Google Now (search)
Home button press: Home
Home button double-press: SVoice
Home button hold: Recent Apps
Back button press: Back
And I would like it to do this:
Menu button press: Recent Apps
Menu button hold: menu
Home button press: Home
Home button double-press: nothing
Home button hold: Google Now (search)
Back button press: Back
I'm kinda surprised that I can't find an app for this, as it really just seems like I'd be changing a little bit of text inside some config/layout files.
FWIW, I'm running completely stock but I rooted it yesterday. No ROM has been flashed, and I would love to keep it that way. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Biggidy biggidy bump
My thread got pushed off the front page faster than I could find Google Now on my new phone.

Thanx - nice find!
It still doesn't accomplish what I want, though... And I am a HUGE proponent of keeping things simple. My least favorite thing about Windows 8? All those muthereffin gestures that you need to memorize. It's not simple, and you have to completely relearn how to use an OS that you've been using for ages.

Adding a Menu Button

I hate that Android has removed the menu button. Is there a way to put it back? What I would really like to do is change the recent screens button to function as the menu button.
