[Q] Is there way to remove youtube ads? - AT&T LG Optimus G

So, I have a question regarding the youtube app. I recently got the LGOG, updating from my Motorola Atrix 4g. When I used the youtube app on my unlocked/rooted but stock firmware Atrix, the youtube app doesn't ever show any of those ads like "wait 5s to skip ad" and I can't immediately watch my video without watching part of the ad. But now almost every time I watch a video on my LGOG I have to wait to watch part of an ad and it really sucks when I'm trying to quickly check out a video or show off my new phone and a stupid ad pops up. The worst part is when my internet isn't going too fast and I have to wait for the damn ad to load before I can even watch it in order to watch my video.
So my question is...what is different about the LGOG from my Atrix that I now have to watch ads? Is there some way to remove the ads? I have rooted/unlocked LGOG but stock firmware still. Please help, thanks.

Sexy, seems to work great so far, thanks.

[Q] no youtube video

my first thread. just received viewsonic gtab. charged it turned it on and there was no option to update to 3588.i tried to update it but says system is up to date.. current version is 3389. when i connected to my pc i noticed on the root there was already a recovery and a update zip. file..also angry birds did not work out of the box it would just go to an empty screen. downloaded new one and works fine.somehow i also lost the stock video and pictures that it came with. i hate to go through the trouble of sending it back.. oh cnn videos work a little sluggish though. any thoughts thanks i do plan to add new rom but i got to figure problems first.. i am not very good and tech stuff. hope this makes sense. oh also there is a white spec that seems embedded under the screen protector, not visible when tab is on but bears another mystery.seems like this may have been pre owned. thanks hope to hear your guys opinion. cheers
At this point you might as well follow the instructions to put a rom on it. I didn't update mine but I just put clockworks on it and a rom. Yours sounds messed up already. Worst case you have to send it back.

I have a related questtion. I flashed vegan and did all the fixes, but I still have a small problem. Youtube app works fine, as do youtube videos when I surf there on my browser. However, YouTube videos embedded on other pages do not work (some gibberish code appears instead). Any clues?

Sorry about the double post, but I need some help figuring this out. My inability to play YouTube videos embedded in web pages only happens in dolphin HD (best browser IMO) but not on opera. Do I need some kind of a plugin? Or is there any other fix? Thanks in advance.

Streaming Amazon Instant Video with app pulled from Fire

check out .apk someone pulled from Kindle Fire for streaming Amazon video.

I am running it on the flyer right now. (I'm on a 4g mifi right now so it is a little jerky, but I'll try at home later).
YOu have to choose a video like you are going to buy it, but then login to your account and it recognizes if you are a Prime member and lets you stream for free.
edit: Can't seem to find a way to pause, but it remembers your place.
Force closes for me. Running the latest honeycomb leak.
Works for me!
Installed and runs just fine on my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0. UI elements on the main page are a little bunched up, but once you get to where you're going, it looks fine. Video is top notch, although you can't bring up the native REW/PLAY/FF controls - you have to back out and go back in to resume.
One thing about logging in - the only way I could figure out to login was to "purchase" something I knew was available to Prime folks and then login. It did not charge me, of course, and remembered my credentials.
It will be interesting to see if Amazon plugs this little jail break since it is a major selling point for the Fire, or opens the Prime membership up to android in general to capture Netflix refugees.
Force closes on my Archos honeycomb tablet as well.
I'll have to try this when I get home
dont work on root
Works great on my Flyer!
I had to pretend to buy something to login and then I went to the prime members section and streamed Lost.
Awesome awesome awesome!

Someone modified the netflix app to not do a device check. Could this be done to the Amazon streaming app?
I have an amazon prime account. It's worth it, just for the expedited shipping. Also cannot run the kindle app. Just gives an error message that says " Your device is no longer configured correctly to play Amazon video." If I try to buy the video after logging in, it says "An error occured."
My device is rooted and did try rootkeeper but did not make a difference. Going to the page directly does work with flash. Some videos are not Instant, even though they may be advertised as Instant. Would really like to get the amazon app working!
read above, need the ota program to disable root when you want to run it.
Got it to work! Had to kill the amazon program, run ota rootkeeper, then everything started. Good find friends
I'm hoping Amazon releases an app with official non-Fire support. Question is, do they make more money selling Fire's or building their overall customer base? They don't make money selling Fire's, so making the app available to entice more people into their ecosystem seems like a viable business plan.
I guess we'll see...
Jeff
Do you guys also have the problem that the video playback is sort of choppy no matter if it is an hd movie or a regular one. I was trying with a wifi connection and it streams fine on a kindle fire but it is really choppy on the flyer, still watchable but choppy.

Yes. Seems choppy.

You actually got this to work on a Nexus One with CyanogenMod?
I followed the steps on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352905
but when I try to watch an Amazon Instant Video (after entering my username and password) I get an error "Your device is no longer configured correctly to play Amazon videos."
OTA rootkeeper doesn't seem to do the trick, no matter if it's before the installation, etc.
Would anyone who got this to work care to outline the steps they followed? Exciting stuff.
How do you login with the app?

[Q] Google Videos after root?

Rooting and setting the scaling seems to be the only current fix for the screen banding issues some of our tablets are having. I use it though traveling for video watching while on a plane, makes time pass quickly and I have a flight tomorrow.
Can you still download videos from google and play them on our tablets if rooted?
Someone in another thread said he could still on his TF101 but I wanted to confirm that was doable with the TF201 before I rooted. I know this is not able to work on most rooted phones.
I took the plunge and decided to just root and test it myself.. For anyone that was curious so far it seems to work.. I have only tested a video that I had already bought and downloaded but that is when the check occurs not at purchase so It should work for others too.
Google has stated Rooting with break Google Videos as it is a DRM restriction set by publishers.
Sounds like stuff works for you, but reviews of the Videos app says differently. I would bare caution for those that use Google Videos and want to root.
Someone else posted that Google Videos states it will not work on Rooted Devices, but they were simply trying to play one and they had the "Serial Number Unknown" problem. So that appeared to Google Videos as a rooted Prime, although it isn't, it cannot be rooted because of the serial number issue.
So just be careful and check that everyone else can play them fine with a rooted Tablet. I believe there is a hack to actually watch the videos without paying for them, but that would be illegal of course.

[Q] Are you able to watch youtube videos via WiFi? What apk version are you using?

Oh my, I wonder if we still have any photon 4G users around here... I'll try with some wishful luck
Stock ROM, 2.3.5, Sprint, Root Only.
Youtube Version : 5.0.21 = videos play fine directly via the app when connected on 3G/4G but never on WiFi, error : There was a problem while playing. Touch to retry. - this error just started last month. Cache/Data clears did nothing. I have a Nexus 7 Stock Android 4.4.X tablet that also connects & plays youtube videos to the same Wifi network without a problem. Other data-related apps (e.g. gmail, browser) work fine.
Interestingly, I can still view youtube videos on other apps like Reddit News, PVStar+ Pro (both on Wifi + 3g/4g). It's just when directly loading the youtube app, this error appears. I can search and see content but all I get is that Touch to Retry" I tried uninstalling back to the original stock version of youtube that originally came with the photon and it was able to play via WiFi, but I lose my option to view embedded videos on Reddit News app (needed v5.0.21 to do that).
So I'm rooted + have my MSL if needed to edit anything. Has anyone experienced this or found a better apk version that works?
Yep!
Getting the same issue on my end.
Honestly stopped using my phone to do anything like game or watch videos since I got it.
Much rather buy a new phone than bother with all the problems I've gotten using this one.
I know this is offtopic but I just found this post on the atrix forum about a photon user flashing the atrix's 4.4.4 kitkat rom on his phone. The thread is titled "MB855need some help". He states that everything seem to work fine but, the camera, light and distance sensor, and button's light don't work. He was trying to get attention from devs to make it work on this phone but it seems they are already too busy with other projects, so I was thinking if we could get some attention from a dev for this phone we could get an almost-working kitkat rom. You can find the 4.4.4 kitkat rom in the atrix's development forum.

I am temporarily back on my Photon. My use of videos on WiFi has never been an issue. I am using GSM on a formerly Sprint CDMA model. I had the update that prevented full unlock, but I was able to modify everything necessary regardless. So, I don't know if my configuration is standard, but I have my old files on the SD card. I'd be glad to help if I can. I can look at this more tomorrow sometime. I was just wandering by as I was working on my new phone... it's late.
I used the one out of mof 2.3.5 ish rom and it works perf3ct. If I update I get the error again

Bringing this topic again for 2015 as it seems like it's still never been resolved for the photon 4g to install the latest youtube update on google play (it's been like this for such a long time, and the only version that still seems to work with some functionality at least if playing videos via the in-app embedded view feature on the reddit news app, this is youtube v5.0.21) - That same version won't play anything if you launch the youtube app on its own - would love to hear if any Photon 4G CMDA survivors have found any workarounds in getting this to work or if you have another higher/newer youtube apk build version, please let us know what that is - thanks
Everything else on the Moto P4G is still working great... for regular voice/data-mms-text/gmail/.web browsing on firefox app, it's still doing fine.
Also, looks like PVStar+ Pro/Regular have been taken off the Google Play Store... which was really the only viable alternative to youtube + the photon 4g. If you know of any other apps that still work for gingerbread like this, it would be good to just know too.
p.s. emailing youtube developers has yet to ever get a response (e.g. been trying around 1x a month).

Ad plays audio out of nowhere?

I finish using my phone, I turn off the screen, I put it down and a few seconds later it plays the (quite loud) audio for a probiotic gummy ad. Anyone know what I have to drive a stake through so this never happens again? No indication of anything on the screen or notifications after I picked it back up and looked at it.

Its got to be an app that you installed that did this. My wife had the same issue. After every phone call she would get a loud ad. She messed around for a few days and found out that an app she installed that allows her an easy way to take notes while on the phone. The app would open during the call and then at the end of the call it would play an ad.
No way around it other than to block ads or find a diff program or pay for it if you can to subvert the ads.
Weirdly, I haven't installed any new apps for a while. Must be an "improvement" in an existing app, but which one is the question.
