[Q] [HELP, URGENT] Lost HTC Rezound, can you help me locate it? - HTC Rezound

I am looking for some assistance in locating a lost HTC Rezound.
The device was lost earlier this week and was turned on again this evening.
I am monitoring the device via the Verizon Wireless "Check Text Status" online app. https://text.vzw.com/vtext/dashboard/Checkstatus.do
The device was receiving texts this evening, I tried calling it, it was on and receiving!
I have tried a few apps that claim to be installable via the Play store and remotely activate themselves, but I havent had any luck when the device is on. It doesnt look like whomever has the device in hand was uninstalling the apps immediately. I tried: Plan B, Wheres My Droid Lite, and AndroidLost.com.
Does anyone know of some app that actually works?
Thanks for you help in advanced friends!

If you report it to Verizon I think they can GPS track it, as well as remotely SIM lock it. I could be totally wrong though, I've never reported a stolen phone.

You could try "android lost" and I think they (theis Borg) have another app that helps with remotely locating. If you get it working you can do all sorts of things. Make your phone talk, take pictures using the front and rear camera, etc. Good luck

Edit: sorry, I guess your already tried that...there's "androidlost jumpstart"

You really think it's a smart idea to confront whomever stole your device? Here is what I would do:
Step 1: call Verizon and report it stolen.
Step 2: suck it up and call insurance, pay $99 for a refurb.
Step 3: don't lose the phone again.
Glad I could help.

thanks to those who had positive input!!
snowride20: you didnt help btw. i really enjoy though how you think outside the box and how intelligent you are. next time keep your bull**** to yourself lamer.
conclusion:
an app finally reported its gps location via a link to a longitude/latitude google map. after calling the police and filling out a stolen device report, they went with us to the location. the officer knocked on doors and asked questions but was unable to recover the device.

Personally if someone stole my device i would confront them and get it back. Not gonna go into details of how the whole confrontation would go though.

I bet they just said they didnt have it but actually did.

There was a story in the news here in Colorado where someone tracked a stolen phone and police ended up busting an unknown meth lab. Not sure if it actually occurred in Colorado though. Just thought I'd share, sorry for your loss

Phone is still active. I've been installing apps on it remotly and been allowing then to I.stall paid apps so they they feel like keeping it. Due to a failed root attempt with odin a while back the phone has no recovery and hence no way to delete any user data. Factory data reset won't work until a new recovery is flashed. It's off right now but I keep calling it and it appears he turns it on every couple hours to mess with it. I have all info to be able to track it but the beat I've done is within 2500 feet. I need an apk that will remotly turn gps on to narrow the search. Can't wait till I find this guy im not happy about my wifes rights beinf violated like this. Thank you for anyone's help. I 2nd the use of Plan B. It should be able to turn on the GPS automatically after it is installed, and you can restart the locate process through a text message to your phone.
Installed.....no email. I even texted locate like the instructions said. Nothing..

Try this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.antivirus.trial&feature=more_from_developer . This trial version lasts long enough for you to be able to locate it (I suppose). Notice this feature: "Find your lost or stolen phone and locate it on a map" . It should help you.
Is there any options for if they happened to change to Google account linked to the phone?

Yeah no go man. I know who it is name DOB. My wife works at a blood bank that pays out to donors she gets her car broken into. I traced the phone to a local town ten minutes away. Got it down to an address. Then at 700 am lost find finder sends me the same gps location as the night before. Same place but this time not in the yard the dot on the map is right on the house. 704 I'm in the car. Arrive to find an empty sqwat house for doing dope. Show pictures of people who we googled from that street that had mugshots from previous arrests to the curious neighbors. The point out one picture as a guy who used to live there. Said he comes at night still and gets high. Ok now I'm interested in this dude. Was told by a niegbor check some apartments on the other side of town. Get there and ask around to people leaving to work. Find a guy who says yeah they're always in apartment x... Then same gentleman tells us his car was broken into same way samething grab the purse walk away grab wallet out of purse and anything looks good and drop the purse in a bust ten feet away. Check records at wufes work same guy donated same time phone was stolen. He finished donating at 240 at 250 on camera you can see them breaking into the car at her work with just there back to the camera. No face shots. Go figure police are worthless. They don't even want the address we gps located. I'm close to this guy I tell ya. I'm gonna find him recovered phone or not and get ours . Just still trying to track the phone out.

Hi guys... just found out we've been burgled.
I had a fresh unconfigured install of LI3... Will I be able to track it?!! I am based in the UK and the phone would have been at least half charged.
Thanks,

+1 for this post
like this idea:good:
Installing apps from the market won't work, because I think you'd have to activate the app by starting it first. Apps dont start after install automatically as far as i know.
Take your IMEI number and receipt of purchase to the police. In theory, they can track it aswell (only by cell tower triangulation, not by gps). Depends on your country and local police if they would actually do that.
Plan b should work... it's designed to activate on installation so it starts tracking straight away.
If you don't get an email from it straight away... send an sms saying "locate" and it should reactivate the tracking

Just keep trying. Eventually it'll work.
It makes sense to turn the phone off after you've stolen it so it can't be tracked. Eventually the thief will have to turn it on, whether he's selling it or checking it out.
Good luck :good:

Yes. It's the bad news that sell to the people, not the good ones... And it's also interesting to find out, if one can get he's smartphone back by using these tracking apps. Now we can find out if they're useless or not.
Hope Plan B works for you. Bring a baseball bat and a few friends when you track the thief down.
And when you do have your phone back, install Cerberus on it right away, it's a fantastic anti theft app with a great web control center and tons of features.
Plan B vs. Android Lost, which one is better?

Why? "burgle" is a standard English verb that you'll find in any dictionary. Don't really get why it's worth loling at.
Anyway, I tried it (and by "it" I mean everything) when I lost my i9000. To no avail unfortunately.
The problem with all those apps is they need internet. If the thief doesn't connect it to wifi or the mobile data.... And most thieves will steal it only to immediately sell it so why would they. Odds are the person who buys it will wipe it, and then unfortunately, nothing can be done.
When it became apparent the thief hadn't sold my phone (yet), I left my account open for as long as possible, hoping they'd turn on mobile data. But when the calls to Romania started adding up I had to have it cancelled and lost all hope. Hope you have better luck.
Now that I'm thinking about it, it would be a good idea if Samsung Dive could turn data on by an alternative means like an SMS. Because as useful as any such services may be, they're all near-worthless if they have no data connection - indoors getting a lock with AGPS is difficult. Without data its next to impossible. At least with data you're guaranteed to get at least the approximate location based on cell towers and wifi.
Oh well

Redbox instant is a joke.
I signed up for an account on 3/20 and went to rent a movie with one of my remaining 3 credits but it was declined. When I called they said it was because they tried billing me for the next month but I didn't have money in my account. They were billing me a week early and refused to let me use my credits I already paid for until they got their money for the next month.
I'll never use redbox again.
Eh it worked when I first signed up but I went to go try tonight and I got this so I cancelled....funny thing is it wouldn't let me cancel either haha so I cancelled via browser hahaha. And the whole time I've had it I've used maybe 5 credits was pissd when I couldn't use credits to rent blurays...as of tonight I'm back with Netflix

Also how does rooting cause a security issue to you or then? I have never heard of such a stupid thing. I guess I could see it causing security issues with yourself if your stupid and grant unknown apps permission but that's it, and most people are smart enough not to allow everything they see. But how would that cause a security issue with them?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
Good for Enterprise app, which is supposed to offer a secure access to corporate email has the same policy--it doesn't work on rooted devices.
I also always wondered how being rooted affected security. If you are a well written app, should not you be secure in all circumstances and not rely on the standard system protection of your data? After all, secure apps work on Windows which is most of the time rooted by default.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
With redbox instant its not about security of financial information its about being able to extract and save content in my opinion.
With corporate email its generally a security policy.
Adam Outler (I think may be someone else though) actually did a write up and gave some presentations on reasons why rooted phones such as those the official CM dev teams support are actually more secure than their non rooted counterpart, same device without root.
In a nutshell, a basic idea is that developers find an exploit, like say an open door. They then put a secure tunnel in its place and close the door behind them, so said exploit is always open on a non rooted phone but on a rooted phone, they not only closed the door after walking through but also replaced the standard door with a bank vault door. That analogy is mine, and I'm just giving a real basic dumbed down summary of the theory.

[Q] Is my Phone Dead?? According to the repair shop it is!!

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for Verizon that I ran Casual on unlocked the bootloader, rooted it and put a custom Rom on. Then it all when to heck!! Loaded CleanRom on it but didn't like the Storage and SD card thing so I Flashed the changeup but apparantley I missed something in there becuse it wasn't right it would put apps on the sd card memory but pictures on the internal memory. Said I was out of space for updates and so on. Couldnt get it fixed and flashed Mean Bean to it. It worked for 3 days and began boot looping and I tried factory restore and It says something about efs files E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid Argument). Sent it to repair shop in Irving Tx. they have had it 2 weeks and they say if they can't fix it by Monday, there going to ship it back to me, still broken. Can this be fixed or do I have a $600.00 paperweight

Thank you very much for the link, looks pretty complicated, I have only rooted 3 phones. 2 Motorola Droids 1 was an X2 and an LG Spectrum. This is very complicated stuff. The shop that had my phone is sending it back to me tomorrow, no charge they say the only way it can be fixed is under warranty, which I have voided by unlocking the bootloader and rooting it.

This is really not a very complicated procedure. Everything you would have to do you can look up and find out how to do it via Google. Its better than having to pay $60 to have it JTAGed. I'm not even sure if JTAGing it would be the way to go seeing as how it giant hard bricked and the steps to fix it are fairly explained in that thread. If you cant do what the thread explains find a techie family member or friend, show them the thread and ask them to do it.

Don't believe everything you hear from these repair shops, most of them won't even know what the hell a JTAG is let alone if its available, which it is.

Romotx - You jumped into the pool when you started flashing, but then you didn't want to learn how to swim. Did you even try typing the commands in the linked thread? That's how it works you type commands carefully and when you get an error you look that error up and try it again. Got a new error, look that one up, and so on. The more you do, the more help you get here. But it sounds like you were not very careful to start with to bork your phone that bad.
It's too late for you, but for others, when something goes wrong take a step back and take a breath. Do some reading, make sure you understand where you went wrong, and what and why you are doing next to your phone. What ever you did should have been an easy fix at some earlier point in time.
But good luck in getting your phone repaired.

Yes and that link that was posted earlier tells you exactly how to fix it. You just don't want to use it. If you can't get into CWM or TWRP try it on what shows up when you boot into recovery, for Christ's sake it's even telling you to use ADB commands which is exactly what that thread tells you to do. If you had pages attention you would know that.
Instead of taking it to a "shop" that obviously doesn't know its ass from a hole in the ground you should listen to the people in the community who have been through this before.

We did help you! You now know that you don't take your phone to a "repair shop"! Lol.
But seriously, listen to dude above, or wait for droidstyle or kintwofan to pop in. They'll answer the same way they do every other time this happens. Search for "bricked note 2 xda" and add "kintwofan" or "droidstyle" to the mix (WILDCARD) and see how many hits you get. Doesn't matter if the symptoms aren't exact - TRY IT.
What bad can happen? You gonna brick your phone? Hell, it may even start working again!?

Its very odd that it was advertised recently then, hmmm I have to see what I can find out.
As for the option that someone else linked earlier, have you tried it yet? It seems like the perfect solution to your problem. Granted you can't get into recovery the screen it shows you tells you to use ADB which is exactly what the fix uses.
As for beating you over the head, what the hell do you expect? You come asking for advice and then don't take ANY of it and act like we are all fools.

I never acted like anybody was a fool. I have been lurking and reading for years on here. I respect everyone's advice here! I have a $600.00 phone that I screwed up,yes thats what you have to do with Verizon to keep your unlimited data plan that they grandfathered you into and now when you want to upgrade it's pay full price for the phone or you get 2Gb. plan, and I don't feel confident enough to fix it like you guys suggest. I have never used ADB, I have never had a brand of phone where you could unlock the bootloader, I'm not a command and scripts and whatever voodoo you guys do to these phones.kind of guy. I can build computers and I have rooted and put roms on 2 other phones. I can't afford to buy another phone and in this backwoods hick town when you talk to anybody about rooting a phone they have no idea what the heck your even talking about.

Phone spying on me?

One thing I have noticed is that my phone seems to be spying on my activities.
My phone knows where I work and when I work and get off. It tells me my commute time and etc. One time it told me when/where my girlfriend works when I was taking her on the regular. I checked National games for the sake of metro and its the phone has started to give me MLB game times and scores. I had a time when my phone gave me an alert to attend a cookout from my car insurance company. It had emailed me this weeks in advanced. I also get advertisements for games I have looked at that pop up.
Is the Android/Google taking it too far by monitoring your activities?
It's called Google Now. Good news? It's working as it's supposed to. Disable it if you're paranoid.

I don't really get what the problem is. It isn't like it's harming you, if anything, it is making your life easier.
Google goes through tons of security and they've even said that the only thing that sees the information is their algorithms. I mean, when's the last time you've heard about Google being hacked?
But like WolfePack said, you can always disable it.

aside from google now if you're getting pop up advertisements for games, or notifications that advertise things, it's because you have a ****ty adware app that you need to block or uninstall.
Google now is awesome

One thing I have noticed is that my phone seems to be spying on my activities.

That's Google Now. You can disable it as had been said. Search your phone or the internet for more info.

Google knows everything about you
It has nothing to do with Google, it's NSA got a hold of your phone.... lol

Funny stuff. Reminds me of the time I bought frozen waffles.. had a craving... they had chocolate chips in em! I mean, like how the heck did they know I liked chocolate chips? Must be Obama flying drones over my house again. Crap... I can hear them in my phone.... sssshh...they are listening.

Welcome to the age of data mining. You can turn off location services under settings. Also turn off report usage or anything worded like that in the apps you use.
Google to find out more about managing location services.
