Does anybody know why there's a boost in battery % when the phone reboots?
Is it a software bug or a battery problem?
Sent from my LT22i using xda premium
mine does that to with 1.54 software...
Even worst, last night I've left my phone charging and when I checked it this morning it had 1% lol wtf?... it stayed 12hours plugged in... rebooted it and it started charging again.
Going back to stock rom from the carrier... or .544 file.

Nonsence , i started using the stock kernel and i got AMAZING battery life , it surpasses double the sustainability ...
*note the spikes that go up is not me charging , sometimes when i look at the phone for example is 25 % and when i wake it up after an hour or so its like 30 % , idk why this happens but it happend like 3-4 times
Well... Don't know why then. ..
Maybe i have a defective phone or battery.
Anyway, i just flashed again the .544 firmware, updated through ota to .54 , and didn't root this time just to check things out.
Either i have a software issue or defective phone/phone charger.
I noticed someone telling that the phone should charge in about one hour and mine doesn't do that. The two times i charged it, it took a lot longer. In almost two hours it reached about 70%.. so there is/was something definitely wrong.

its about calibration, you use it, it drains more, so it shows % of battery remaining like using, turn sleep mode for a while, battery will calibrate and show you more % because phone doesnt drain much

I understand your point of view but that does not make any sense, since no other brand does that type of reading.
I'm sure it is a software glitch or malfunction that causes.
The remaining battery % is the battery you have left. I've never heard of a % if you use it and % if it's idle, and IMHO doesn't make sense.
If anyone could confirm this, would be great.
tks
I also experience a boost of 1-2% when I leave the phone idle for hours..But the flickering values during reboot-isnt that an inefficient usage of the battery by the OS? Can it b fixed? It sucks to reboot the phone often to increase my battery...But it only works around 2-3 times in a single charge session..after that it drops during reboot

casca-the phone charging fully in an hour is simply bogus...It takes an extra 1-2 hrs after hitting 100% to reach the "Battery Full" state..

Yeah mate, true. Mine takes about 50 minutes to reach 80% and another 60 minutes to reach 100%.
From what i have read on a couple of reviews the Xperia P has quick charge mode until the battery reaches about 80%
The Battery can b made more efficient..the extended standby mode is a life saver,..but what's the point of not using the phone?...wish the "extra charge" during reboot gets fixed when jb releases..What's the maximum backup for u all? I once got around 50 hrs,via frequent reboots...

Android 4.0.4 may have this problem
So, there's no fix right?
i have xperia p and sometimes when i put it on charger for example when its down to 3% it starts to charge but not raising percentage but when i reboot it shows real status.so its charged but somehow percentage bugged
where are you from and what file did you flash? generic world or central europe?
normal problem
I think it's a normal "problem",
while rebooting it's clearing the battery-cache.
and it's not only on your Xperia P, it's on iPhone too

Same here ics is so bugged..what does it take for Sony to give a clean version...JB might b even worse...
it was actually weirder than that guys... the phone was loosing battery % with the charger on!
for instance, if I pluged the phone at 40% at night, in the morning i would have 1% of battery... so, not only was the phone not showing the charge going up, it was actually showing it going down! lol
anyway, I think it has been solved and I the problem was I've flashed the generic world version instead of central europe one.
tks for the posts.

I have had my White AT&T Note for about a week. It is running Saurom RCV with the HoloNote kernel OCed to 1782mHz. I am having a really weird battery issue where it will drain to about 5% in a couple of hours regardless of what I am doing to it, then that 5% will last the rest of the day but the phone, thinking the battery is about to die, wont let me do anything (ie. listen to music or take a picture). Then, yesterday it started not charging all the way, it will stop at about 94% and then the notification that its fully charged will come up. No matter what I do it will not go past 94%. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
have you try to recalibrate your battery stats through CWM?
try that first........charge your battery to full......clear stats....drain all the battery...then recharge to full......that should help you with ur problem
First take the battery out and make sure you don't see anything on the contacts (phone or battery). Then leave the phone on until it dies on its own - easiest if you use something that will keep the screen on. Then charge overnight, unplug, replug and let it charge again until it stops. Turn it on, go through your day and report back.
I have tired both of your suggestions. I left it streaming a movie from Netflix and it took two movies at full brightness (or as full as it would let me) to kill off the last 5%. I apologize as I should have specified that I am posting on here having already tried conventional calibration techniques. Also, the stopping at 94% only started AFTER I used CWM to reset the battery stats.

I've never used CWM. Have you tried using it again?
I have noticed another "quirk", it seems that when my phone is sleeping for a long period of time, more than an hour, it will usually display more percentage than when I set it down. For instance I decided not to charge it last night as I was hoping it would die in the night however when I got up this morning it read 51% whereas it was at 26% when I left it. I am starting to think that there is something wrong with the hardware. Opinions?

I didn't nitice this till last Tuesday. I forgot to charge my note the night before, and when I woke up I had 19% left. Around 10am I received a notification that my battery is critically low. I wasn't going home till 12, and I was texting heavily for 2 hours through whatsapp on 4g network, and nothing, the phone didn't turn off. I got home and plugged it in while it was still on. The only thing the phone did was turn down the brightness completely, im not sure if that 's the reason for the extra 2 hours, but that seems too much. Before i plugged in the phone it had 23 hours on battery with 4 hours 44 mins screen on time.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Has anybody experienced any of these issues on a stock note? Also, I tend to agree, if Samsung had really figured out a way to make the end of the battery last that long we probably wouldn't be having this issue.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I exchanged my Note for a replacement at the store and that has made a world of difference. It would seem that my suspensions about my hardware were correct. If you are having the same issues I recommend a replacement.
Thanks!
If I keep my phone on charging even after its on 100%, it starts rolling back. As in from 100 to 99 then 98, even if its pluggen in.
Don't know what kind of a problem this is, hardware or software.
Or there's some issue with the battery.
Please help.

But usually I put it on charging at night before sleeping.
And when I wake up in the morning, the battery % becomes even less than what it was when i plugged it in.
I'm usually in a hurry then to leave for college in the morning . Can't go to college with battery % less than even 10
Thanks for the reply anyway !

Maybe You have some program that syncs something all the time. Did You try to turn off data and wifi. You can always check it if the reason is the hardware or Software. Just make a backup of Your whole ROM, delete the data and leave the phone over night. I hope it is only software problem.
EDIT: Does Your battery go hot while charging? Oh, and try to wipe battery stats

The x10 charges the battery to full then if still plugged in it will stop charging until batt drains to set level ,then will charge to full again and over and over all night. X10 wont over charge batt when left plugged in. Kernel/bootloader handle this. There is an app current widget that can log charge levels.
EDIT: I had a tip on charging here but removed it after further research read more about batt here..

EDIT: the best tip I usr for battery life is, let batt runout until phone shuts off, then pull batt, then plug in charger, then replace batt into phone, then phone will boot, enter xrecovery on first boot and wipe batt stats. After wipe while still in xrec pull batt then unplug. Now plug in phone then insert batt. Phone should boot in charge mode( big batt icon only on screen) dont start phone untill light green for 1-2 hours to get full charge . I do this about once a month, when phone starts to shut off around 15%

As mentioned above as well, this is normal. After charging to 100%, the phone stops battery charging, and will activate charging again only when battery falls a bit (say 97%). Also, battery heating while on charging (and also when using the phone continuously while playing a game) is normal. Relax.. your phone is fine
@ToledoJab
I am having the same issue with battery... phone switching off at 15%, even at 22-23%, when playing a game or something. But switching it back on, and leaving it idle, phone might run for another 2 hours. So it is the extra load while running a game that the phone cant take any longer (i remember getting the 15%,10% and 5% reminders earlier while playing games)...? Does the battery calibrate method actually help in your case? does it go all the way down to 0% or 1% before shutting down.. ?
I just did this after posting that. And yes my phone reported warnings @ 25% 15 10 5 and then shutdown @ 1%.
This way is like reconditioning an old rechargeable ni-cad batt.
All this does is completey drain batt then, with least amount of drainage (phone on, apps& radios running) allows battery to full charge.
There is also a way called recalibrate battery. But this way over charges the batt.
EDIT: I think the phone load will effect reported batt left. I think batt gage use average loads to estimate remaining power. Meaning games, full brightness of LCD, radios -3g -GPS -WiFi -Bluetooth will use more than avg power
edit 2: I found this thread also has some very good points and links. after reading this i will not intentionally take my batt to 0%. I hit 0% about 1-2 times a month on accident as it is. i will just make sure when i do go 0% to wipe stats (dont know if it helps or not) then preform a long (overnight) full charge with phone off.

SORRY for ranting on about this, i thought i was smart but i am still/always learning.
From my XPERIA X10S v8.2 on kCernel @ 1.19ghz
so i bought yesterday my Xperia S, im pretty happy bla bla bla...
Now, my phone was branded with a carrier [Telcel] from México, so I found a tutorial to unbranding, flashing with flashtool a generic UK firmware....
First was charging normally, but after that the phone dont charge, i left it all the night and only gets to 50%, and now im putting bacj to the charger and its getting 1% - 4% and then go back to 1%, so anybody knows why happens this? how to solve it?
Thanks
Maybe your phone is a faulty one ? contact the carrier, they will most likely replace it with a new one
Does it charge offline??
Press volume up +power untill you feel 3 vibration that will reset and turn it off then try to charge again.
If you succeed to charge it you will have to flash another firmware.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Before flashing, do a factory reset. But I suggest you to contact the carrier
Well after all your recomendations, i do the power + volume combination technique, and a factory reset (now with Pc companion...), and the battery start to charge, now in 4 hours I get 80% LOL but i think that its discharging a little quick, in 4 hours unplugged battery is now 40% (and im not doing anything with the cellphone...) so tomorrow will go to the service and see what they can do... I hope they give me a new one ¬¬
Hey friend ok i register at xda forum only for your issue
Ok look. Before year i buy my X10i it was and it is "the perfect device for its age". I had issue with battery like you. I did research here and there and ... I solve it with doing the following.
Charge the device to its max (until stop charging). Once is charged don't unplug the charge and remove the battery. wait 10sec and put it again. You will see that device will start charging again. Do that like 3-4 times for next 2-4 days and you will see improvement (at me).
From beginning my device battery was fully discharged in 15hours standby now it keep 2~3days .
Wish that help you a bit.

Yes i have another sony ericsson (mini pro sk17a) and its the same charger.... the same situation, even tieh another cable and in the laptop... the same
Soooooooooo continue with this sadness story... i go on tuesday afternoon to give the cellphone in the service center and they told me that they need to check it, so I say ok ok no problem, I go on Wednesday in the evening and they told me that the cellphone was without failure, that its charging and its ok, they told me that "upgrade" the system version (that its not true... its the same ¬¬) and well.... that be all, I made a question ... How many time take the phone to reach 80% (they are giving me with that charge) ???? and they told me: (with a face of surprise ) like 2 hours.... and I say: It's too much isn't it?, and the women said me that for this type of phones is normal..... so i want to make a question for you... how many time take your Xperia S to charge??? since 5~10% to 100%???? for me 2 hours to get 80% its a lot of time.....
Accordign to the respondes in here i will valorate to go again or leave it in that way....
BTW the cellphone its now charging but its too slowwww for me.... I plugged it at 12:30 am and still have 30% of battery, 40 minutes later its 47%....
How are you charging?
- Via USB or via power charger?
- Is Phone turned on?
- What temperature is the Phone? can be be hot? If it is hot the charging might be slower due to battery protection.
- Aren't there anything consuming battery? What do you see as main contributors in the Battery usage?
Well sorry for take a time to respond but i wanna try and wait a couple of weeks to come back XD

One question: which charger do you have? EP800 or EP850/851?

You said that service guys tested the phone and it is ok, and you tested the two chargers with another device, right?
If yes, change your charger cable with another one. Try to use brand new, they are not to expensive. And try to find some brand name cable like Samsung or Nokia.

I have 2 chargers, and 3 cables , one from my xperia mini, one that i bought from ebay (want to have one in the car for emergencies of a dead battery) and a new one that come with the S.... I'm using the one I bought and the xperia mini.... maybe thats the cause but i really doubt it...
Same issue on Xperia P
I have a similar issue on my new Xperia P since day 1. When I charge my phone using the charger, it charges upto 50% +/- 5%. It will not go beyond that even if the charger is connected for hours. If I charge it from a PC through USB it goes to 100% without any issues. Also, if I charge it through the charger with the phone turned OFF, it charges 100%. So this appears to be a software related issue and not something to do with the charger.
Any suggestions?
*My phone is currently on ICS. Though the issue existed even with GB.
Well, let it pass a week and lets see what happen, mine fixes by itself, now just take 1 hour and a half to charge it , but in the beginning was a pain in the ass

R: Why Devs Develop ROMs that Look like XPERIA Builds ? Y You No Change the Look
Try to calibrate battery:
Drain battery untill phone power off itself.
Plug in the charger and wait a couple of minutes
While phone is charging, power it on, switch off all connections and lock it.
Let it charge alone till 100% then wait 20 minutes more.
Reboot phone to cwm and wipe battery stats.
Reboot phone and wait 10 minutes after it reaches 100% of charge (just wait if charge has not gone down)
Finally plug off the charger.
Now only for the next time plug charger in only after phone has shut it off by itself, then charge directly to the 100%.
After this problem should be gone, if not change battery pack or go to service.
Flashing roms frequently is by far the best cause to get a bad calibration.

I have solved this issue - 3 days -, now it works.
When your phone arrive at 20% --> 1% start to charge.
Shut down your phone and go to sleep.
This operation for 3 days.
Only for the first morning, reboot your phone (always in charge) and go to cwm. Clear battery stats.
Reboot, wait 5 mins with the phone in charge and after unplugged.
In the 4° day yo can charge with your phone on and you must see 1% --> 2% etc...if display shows that, your phone works.
During the day, if your charge are finishing, you can charge (not full).
Ok?

My new extended 4300mAh battery arrived, i inserted it and when the phone boot up, it showed that it has only 3% power, so i put the phone on charger(stock one), the battery charged to 100% in like 2hours,30mins, same as the original battery, witch i think it shouldnt, it should took more time because the battery is bigger, and now even it was discharging fast, and fast as 1hour and 30mins on battery with 30mins of screen on to 70%, is this normal? (i mean for a big battery, because thats the time i get from my old used battery) Does it take the phone some time to adapt to the bigger battery or? Can i do anything to help it?

nope, every app is closed with greenify, also 4hours on standby took 15% battery, so 8 hours(one night sleep) will take 30%, thats one third of the battery(a 4300mAh one) in standby gone in one sleep :/
You have either a fake or faulty battery, return it. Charging should have taken double the time at least.
