64GB SanDisk not working on Note 2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was using a 32GB Lexar Class 10 card on a GS3. When I got the Note 2, I put the 32GB card in it and was working fine.
Last week I got a 64GB SanDisk UHS-1 card from Amazon ($38 sale). I used it in the GS3 for a few days and was OK. But when I try to use it in the Note 2, there are issues. Most of my files show as 0 byte in Astro or Root Explorer, and I can't copy/paste files or save camera images to the 64GB card.
But once I put the 64GB card back in the GS3, it works just fine.
One thing I did (before placing any files on the 64GB card) was to format it as FAT32 so that CWM would be able to access it. I'm not sure if having the 64GB card as FAT32 is causing the problem with the Note 2, or if it must be in exFAT to work right with the Note 2.

probaly needs to be reformatted on the note 2 for it to be recognized. So backup all files on it to pc and try again.

I'm using the same card without any issues. Def try some formatting options.

I was hoping there was a simple fix, or just a permission issue, but I could reformatt it on the Note 2 if that's what it takes.

hmm i popped mine out of my gs3 and slid it right into the gn2 with no issues...formatted to fat32 aswell.

I ended up reformatting the 64GB card in the Note 2 and check it on the PC, which showed it as exFAT. Then copied my data from the 32GB card to the 64GB card, and it then worked OK in the Note 2. I'm not sure if it was because I first had it formatted at FAT32, and that caused the problem with the Note 2, or if it could have been something else.
But a quick Google search shows a lot of people have had issues with 32GB and 64GB cards on the SGS3/Note2. Some are issues with recognition, read/write issues, files corrupting or disappearing.

like i said mine worked flawless swapping from s3 to gn2 and its formatted to fat32...but yes i agree it seems to be hit or miss.

I "cloned" my 16GB Sandisk card (from my OG Droid) to my new 64GB Sandisk Ultra via a program called HDD Raw Copy from HDD Guru and then I used a program minitool partition wizard to resize the resulting 16GB partition on the card back up to the full size of the card. It is a FAT32 format.
Both of these tools are free.
I am not having any issues as of yet.

I haven't had any issues with my card, just placed it the phone and it was recognized. Do we need to format the card first, or is that only if you are having issues

I am using a SanDisk 64GB microSDHC card, formatted mine in Fat32 when I got it and no issues.

Mine keeps saying card damaged. 64 GB. Can't get it recognized to format it fat32

Use a memory card reader in your PC, open a command prompt and do a CHKDSK X: /F
where X is the drive letter of the memory card.
I had to do that a couple months ago using my Lexar 32GB microSDHC card.

Dang I dont have a card reader lol. Do I have to put it in a mini SD card?

I have a mutil-card reader in my PC that has one for microSD cards.
Otherwise you'd have to use a microSD to standard SD converter, and place that in a standard sized SD card reader.

I just posted a question about how every time I flash a new ROM I get a damaged SD card. My card is a 64gb ex fat micro SD. I keep wondering if its because its not fat32. So the thing you did in the command prompt. That will reformat my 64gb ex fat to fat 32?

Try this program to format as your 64GB card as FAT32
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
Even though it worked for me, I started to get errors after moving my 64GB card from a Galaxy S III to a Note 2, and two weeks ago reformatted the card back to default exFAT. Since then it's been working fine.

My 64GB Sandisk is and has been working perfectly. I bought 2 so I use one with an OTG cable so I have 128GB of user storage space.

32 gb sd card

I have a 32 gigabyte sd card I am running fusion 1.1 with a stock kernel it will work fine until I transfer data to it then it says I have a damaged sd card is this a bug or could the card really be bad thanks for the help

You should probably give a little more detail on the SD card.
1. What class is it?
2. Where did you buy it (store, internet, etc..)?
3. Does it transfer fine in a PC?
4. Is it formatted correctly? How is it formatted?
All of these are important as for instance, if bought from China through ebay, amazon or online store, 75% of the time I have found them to be cheap knockoffs that don't perform well in mobile devices. Hence the testing on a PC.
It is a Kingston and pretty shore it is a class four. I formatted it with windows fat32 I did not do the quick format I could transfer on windows but it seemed very slow and it showed up one the phone until I downloaded a file and tried to view the file. I also formatted it with the phone and transferred file to the phone as mass storage device and same thing when I try and view the files it will say damaged SD card
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Try transferring to the original sd card to see if you are still getting any errors. If not, you may have a bad card.
What about the other ? I asked? (#2)
I did get it from Amazon so I think you are right about the cheap cards from China the 2gig card has worked just before I switched cards thanks for the info

I'm pretty sure it's the card. I've seen a couple of threads that said that the kingston brand was bad for the vibrant. I think that the most recommended sd cards were transcend and sandisk.

try formatting the block size to 32KB
An sd card does not need to be formated only hdd do... What couldve hapend is that your boot sector got screwed up. Try putting your sd card in an card reader and connect it to the pc. On windows 7 go to start type cmd and hit enter. Then type: chkdsk /X /F /A:, where A: is your card reader. Hit enter and wait. I revived a couple SD Card by this method. Without losing any data!
***Ignore this***
Edited for clarity.
I have a Class4 16 gb card. Worked well so far.
Guys - Can we lose the personal criticism here - this thread is bang on the money with a problem I'm really struggling with and I'd hate for the thread just to become a shouting match.
My daughters x10 Mini Pro (running latest paul-xxx version of CM7) is just refusing to play nicely with a Sandisk 8Gig Class 4 SDHC which has prviously worked perfectly in a Samsung Genio.
On the 8 Gig card music jumps between tracks as you are listening , apps moved to SD Card refuse to run, photos save OK and will open once in Gallery but then the jpgs get corrupted and cannot be reopened on the phone or when transfered to a PC.... and to crown it all I get random reboots/freezes.
If I drop back to an old Kingston 2 Gig Micro-SD (ie non-SDHC) everything on the phone works fine and yet when I format the 8Gig card on my PC, there are never any errors and I can then copy files on and off the card (via the card reader in the PC) multiple times with no issues.
Is this just a somewhat more extreme example of other peoples experiences or would you suspect my micro SD is b*ggered?
I suspect that this "quality" Sony phone is just so sensitive to SDHC cards that I need to get one which others can confirm works reliably and stick to it.
For now my daughter is content to run with the 2 Gig card and have a stable, working phone but obviously she'd like to carry more than a dozen Albums and Apps at any time.
Any advice?

32GB or 64GB

I keep reading about i717 users installing 64GB memory cards into their phones i thought that the i717 would only support a 32GB card...someone please give me some definite info
i717 UCLF6+FJmod B4
64gb cards work fine from GB on up. In theory it would support even larger cards but a 129gb card would be too expensive for me when they first come out.
I installed a sandisk class 6 64gb card in my Note. It works flawlessly. Got it off Amazon Prime for $55 with free 2day shipping. This is what I did:
moved contents of 32gb card to desktop computer's hd
powered off
removed battery
removed 32gb card
inserted 64gb card
replaced battery
powered on
let the card format itself
moved contents of 32gb card from computer to new 64gb card
enjoy new roomier storage capacity
+1 I use the SanDisk 64GB card as well. No issues. I also formatted in the phone.
I also use a 64gb card with no problem.
What do you need a 64 for?
That is a **** load of memory for a phone haha. I mean I understand, I am trying to fill up my 32, I have like 7 left. I would have had less if my songs had not gotten all erased. But, I did have alot of adult stuff cause my ex loved watching that stuff on my phone haha, plus I loved to show it to my home girls, turned them hot like a kettle over an open flame But yes it works just gotta format it, checkout videos on youtube on how to do it if you have any trouble. Good luck brotha!
I had a lot of trouble with my 64 GB Sandisk. The phone (at the time a Flapjaxx ICS ROM) didn't like the exfat formatting it came with, but it also wasn't able to format it itself. I eventually formatted it as fat32 with a large enough block size and the phone is now happy with it.

SD card problems (SanDisk 64gb Class 10)

So when I got my S4 I had a 32GB sandisk card (don't know what class it was, came with my HTC thunderbolt). Needed more room, so I bought this. My sd card f*cking unmounts 4/5 a day. When it does I have to reboot it and take it out until it fixes itself. Then it'll go a week or two without any problems. My 32GB sd card did the same thing, just not as often, and I gave that 32gb sd card to my girlfriend who got the AT&T version of the S4 and it did it to her a few times, she accidently had the phone format it, now she has no problems... the 64gb is formatted to exFat, I'm in the processs of formatting it to fat32 and transferring data as we speak, but am I the only one with this issue? I read on the CleanRom thread that S4 have issues with SanDisk brands, someone said they switched to Kingston becauee their S4 wouldn't mount their sandisk.
Is it software / root related? because my girlfriend is stock unrooted and hers works fine and it's an older card but it's also not the same size or class (honestly I know it's not just asking maybe there's a mount issue with debloated firmware) Or is it a defected card/phone?
The card itself is fine. Reads fine on my pc. I checked the sectors and partition with Ubuntu gparted utility and it passed the tests... but I still heard they can be defected and it's a big problem and they'll replace it.
Anyone have a 64gb sandisk class 10 and wanna give me their experience?

TL;DR: Buy a class 4 SD card
I bought the S4 on day 1 and started having the unmount issues with my 64GB SanDisk Class 10. When it started messing up my Spotify, I knew I had to try and figure it out. Well after testing with 4 S4s (2 of them mine as I returned my first S4 because of this issue), and a bunch of SD cards, I really think it comes down to the class. Class 4 provides a faster random write speed than 10s do, and I think that might help the issue. Both class 4's that I tested did not (and have not) unmounted once yet.
I bucked up the cash and bought all of these cards brand new for the testing. I ended up returning the Class 10's that I could and keeping both the Class 4's - 1 for a co-worker.
SD Cards Tested:
SanDisk 64GB Class 10 (x3) - One was brand new
SanDisk 32GB Class 10 (x2) - One was brand new
SanDisk 64GB Class 4 (x1) - Brand New
SanDisk 32GB Class 4 (x1) - Brand New
I have an open case with SanDisk and they are testing one of my 64GB Class 10's right now, and then are supposed to send me back another new 64GB Class 10 to help solve the issue. Pretty sure that one is going to unmount too though :silly:

Idk about your unmount problem, but u suspect bad card, I just got my 64gb replaced that had an issue like that.
Fat32 is only bad for 64gb cards because fat32 apparently doesn't officially support file systems over 32gb. 32gb cards obviously don't have that problem.

What size micro sd card

I have a Samsung GT-P3110 8gig tablet.
The tablet has 8 gig internal memory and the max is quoted at 32gig.
Can I put a 32 gig micro SD card in?
I think you answered your own question there.
You can put a microSd up to 64GB. I suggest you to put a SanDisk microsdhc ultra. They are the best sd cards. Press Thanks if I helped you

64GB flash cards use a different formatting (exFat) which is supported only by a few phones only when using stock ROM, you may be able to find a custom ROM for your phone that does support exFat*
otherwise 32GB will indeed be the maximum usable for your phone*
Normally 32 gb one could be fat32 ( this format has a limit of 32 gb only )
Press thanks if I helped.
You can use blackhawk custom kernel that will support natively exfat

Not just size but what about R/W speed??
using the GT 2- 7 inch - with cm 10.2 nightly build - with a 32 class 10 external micro sd card with Link2SD and folder mount- so that all apps are installed and run from the external storage. Works great! So I thought of changing out the 32GB for a 64GB. I know or think I know that I should opt for a class 10 device but what about read and write speeds - I would think this answer would depend on the tabs abilities as far as maximum rates go. I cant find anything that post the rates at which the tab can transfer data to the external microsd and was wondering if a microsd card could even outperform the tab as far as R/W. In other words the tab can fulfill any max R/W rates so go for the best!
Thanks
Hi, as far as i know the p3110 is hardware limited to 32 GB microsd. So 64Gb won't work properly. As speeds go, i can't really tell. My class 10 reads and writes at maximum speed ( bit lower than indicated, but same speed in other devices).

The Tab2 is not 'hardware' limited to 32gb. It has to do with what formats your kernel supports. If you have a recent kernel with exfat support you are set.

I have had 4 or 5 different micro sd cards in my tab 2 , From class 6 to Ultra, they all work fine if formatted correctly. I would suggest not using that auction site, there a lot of fake cards there. These tiny little cards don't have the best durability record. Of the 6-7 I have had, a couple have gone bad before a year, but some are used heavily and still work after a year. The price for the 64gb cards is still too high for me. I usually have 15 to 20 movies on my 32gb card.:good:
I have 32 gig micro sd on my tab, without problem!
Hello Guys
Had my Samsung Galaxy tab 2 7 (p3110) for over a year now running stock unrooted. One of the first things i did when i got it was grab myself a Sandisk Ultra 64gig SD card. Had to reformat the SD card before it would work. From memory i used a tool on my PC called mini partition tool to reformat it. Been working like a charm ever since.

I have a Samsung GT-P3110 8gig tablet.
The tablet has 8 gig internal memory and the max is quoted at 32gig.
Can I put a 32 gig micro SD card in?

Just dont forget to get a high class SD card such as class 4 if you will be reading from the extSDcard alot! it would be really helpfull,or if you will use it to boost RAM and such
For best results use a class 10 32 GB SD card and haven't tried it yet but it more might support 64 GB too to prevent slowdowns a class 10 one is the best
64gb SDXC
Hi. I ordered a 64gb sandisk ultra plus microSDXC card. I just want to know what I will have to do to make it compatible with my Tab 2 rooted on GB27 4.2.2. I couldn't get the SDHC as the site was sold out, so I ordered the SDXC. Am I going to have to format it through my PC? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
