32GB or 64GB - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I keep reading about i717 users installing 64GB memory cards into their phones i thought that the i717 would only support a 32GB card...someone please give me some definite info
i717 UCLF6+FJmod B4

64gb cards work fine from GB on up. In theory it would support even larger cards but a 129gb card would be too expensive for me when they first come out.

I installed a sandisk class 6 64gb card in my Note. It works flawlessly. Got it off Amazon Prime for $55 with free 2day shipping. This is what I did:
moved contents of 32gb card to desktop computer's hd
powered off
removed battery
removed 32gb card
inserted 64gb card
replaced battery
powered on
let the card format itself
moved contents of 32gb card from computer to new 64gb card
enjoy new roomier storage capacity

+1 I use the SanDisk 64GB card as well. No issues. I also formatted in the phone.

I also use a 64gb card with no problem.

What do you need a 64 for?
That is a **** load of memory for a phone haha. I mean I understand, I am trying to fill up my 32, I have like 7 left. I would have had less if my songs had not gotten all erased. But, I did have alot of adult stuff cause my ex loved watching that stuff on my phone haha, plus I loved to show it to my home girls, turned them hot like a kettle over an open flame But yes it works just gotta format it, checkout videos on youtube on how to do it if you have any trouble. Good luck brotha!

I had a lot of trouble with my 64 GB Sandisk. The phone (at the time a Flapjaxx ICS ROM) didn't like the exfat formatting it came with, but it also wasn't able to format it itself. I eventually formatted it as fat32 with a large enough block size and the phone is now happy with it.

I have a Sandisk 64g and works excellente

I am also having problems. I am in BlackStar VIII Rom its ICS but it detects it but it wont format it self. I also tried to formate it on my Mac but my Mac can't see it. Its on OS mountain lion. It does detect it though and does allow me to format. Tell me what block size did you use? Thanks

Try loading your music collection! i have a sandisk 64 and 47 of it is filled with all of my music, works great though.

Review: Best Buy's PNY 32Gb class 10 MicroSD

I bought one for $69.99 and put it in my phone. Using SD Tool to check, the result is awesome: Reading speed=>9MB/s, Writting speed>20Mb/s. Transffering the Transformer movie from my old HD2 Sandisk 16Gb class 2 to the new PNY took less than 2 minutes for a 1.5Gb
But then all of my media player (stock HTC, Cloudskipper, Winamp Pro, Rock Player, QQ player ect... none can access those media files but Root explorer still can see them and able to played the file from within Root Explorer app
I put back my old HD2 Sandisk 16Gb class 2 back into the phone and everything fine and all the media player apps works flawlessly. This told me that the problem are not from my phone/apps but rather from NPY SDCard - somehow
BTW the card is pre-format with FAT32 - as same with my old one
Any one using PNY microSD card and facing the same problem? If so please replied so we can alert others

No I did not but every other function works well - I've been using the card for the whole 24hrs and media files played well until 24hrs later. Perhaps I should try to format it then. Will report back.
BTW: How do I format the card with the phone Binary? By using CWM?

I saw function like: Unmount SD Card, Erase SD Card, SD Card Encryption, Make more space and factory reset but none as format
I think by erase SD card it means the same thing all my other phones don't have erase it says format but there are also apps for SD cards on the market to help you get it done. I got a 32gb and I formatted with my comp it took a bit but everything works great.

Oh I though there must be a good reason to format the card using HTC built-in formatter - if any - otherwise I can always uses my PC and/or SDFormatter 2.0 to format it though
Yea me personally I always used my PC and all my SD cards work great I jealous of your speeds I can only manage 5 mbps write and 18-20 read, but then again i only paid 27 dollars for my 32

My PNY 32GB works fine, never had an issue with it, also bought it on sale for $39.99
Sorry for your troubles
I had bought a SDU32G10-EFS2 PNY 32GB class 10 sdcard and about two months later I began to lose my data. First thing I noticed was my clockwork backups were either losing my md5 files all together or the md5 checks wouldn't match up for my restores. Afterwards it began corrupting my data. I called PNY and got an RMA. They sent me a SDH32G10-EFS2 back. There may be a problem with the SDU32G10 models.

That's one of a hecking sweet deal
I did return the PNY and go to Fry's to check out their stuff yesterday, they had a Samsung 32Gb class 10 for $35.99. Grab it and test with SD Tool, the result is not quite as expected as writting speed never exceed 9Mb/s though. I guess I'll live with it until it ran out of capacity and perhaps by that time the Sandisk 64Gb price will drop a little bit.
My two years old Sandisk 16Gb class 2 that came with the HD2 still works flawlessly and I'm convinced now that nothing can bypass Sandisk when it come to quality. If someone happened to purchased the Sandisk SDXC 64Gb and used with out Amaze, please kindly report back

Yeah, for "now" 32GB is perfect for me.
I mean right now I have all my music on Google Music, so that saves me approx 16GB of data, and I do have a few Media Hub movies, so 32GB is spacious right now.

Yeah, I've never seen one under $120. Considering that's around three 32GB microSDHCs, I'm holding off--not that I have any trouble filling a 32GB card, but still.

That's the cheapest I have seen them thus far. Wonder how fast it'll be before it significantly drops in price. So far, the 32GB ones have dropped a fair amount in price.

International version was reported to support 128GB, but there isn't a microSD that size yet, so the test was done with a regular SD card and an adaptor:

Yeah 32GB are definitely at a good price point; I bought an excellent SanDisk class 4 from Newegg for $33, and could have saved a few bucks with a less reputable brand.
I haven't seen prices drop at all on microSDXC cards in the last four months. I'm not holding my breath at this point that they'll be priced competitively with smaller cards any time soon.

Have you ever seen anyone selling a 128GB microSDXC? I don't think there is any technological limitation of the phone that would prevent your phone from reading even larger cards, as long as you can format them with a supported filesystem, and the SDXC standard allows up to 2TB. The limitations are just based on what's available.

That's pretty cool, thanks for the link. I'm not quite brave/crazy enough to clear a space in the back of my phone to install a full-size SD card though.
I got the same 64gb sandisk microsdxc and it doesnt work for me...phone wont recognize it. It's formatted into FAT32 and my HTC Evo 4G and PC can see the card and read/write to it just fine.
What file system do you have on that card?
64GB was 100 at bestbuy but they sell out quick on the site.
You have to put it in the phone and format it in the phone itself

Note does not see sd card contents
Having a little trouble with the external card being seen by the Note. I have a samsung 32 GB, class 10. I have pics loaded, ringtones and apks on it. Pics and apks are in the root of the card. Ebooks are in a folder called ebooks. Ringtones are in a folder- Forget how labeled, but copied from my infuse card. They work correctly.
My app installer does not see the apks. Gallery does not see the pics, but the ringtones are selectable by the settings thru contacts or setting sounds. STock ebook reader does not see my ebooks that are in a folder "ebooks".
With the file explorer on the note was able to open the sd card and install the apks manually.
How do I get the note to see the stuff on the external card?

very nice! thx for the info
I use a 64gb SanDisk Micro SDXC card in my Prime and currently have 28.8gb of the 59.46gb available free. I have music, videos and emulator roms on there.
I don't think I will be needing to put a card in the docks sd card slot yet but IF I ever do then another 64gb would be going in
I have a class 10 64GB in the Dock and a class 6 64GB MicroSD in the Prime
I had to reformat them to get them recognized and they have run fine since...
Scored the 64GB SanDisk MicroSD
http://www.buy.com/prod/sandisk-mob...nded-capacity-microsdxc-1-card/226590490.html $110 shipped, got mine a little cheaper on sale.
I run a Pretec 64GB Class 16 SD card in my dock that I bought from either Newegg or Amazon for ~$75 and I am very pleased. I've had it for 5+ weeks now with no trouble and many transfers on/off of it. About 2 weeks ago I formatted it NTFS and I now get write speeds from 16-24 mb per second! I was a bit nervous when I purchased it as I had never really heard of the Pretec brand before but, I have absolutely no complaints. I watch my 720p .mkv movies from it and hardly ever have a stutter. In my Prime run an HP 32gb Class 10 MicroSD and it also functions very well. Both are highly recommended.
I use 2 Sandisk 64gb mobile ultra microsd's in both the tab and dock. I have them both formatted as extFAT due to the size. The tab reads all 59gb's of the micro on both cards.
Format 64GB
Hi,
I am new to the site and the 64gb XC1 class card. I purchased one and tried to reformat it to fat32 and was unable on several systems. I could not get it to be recognized on my phone or the prime. Any special direction on what needs to be done in order to get it accomplished? I updated windows 7 to the required KB fixes and still nothing. Even thou my HP had an XD slot, not sure if that is different than than the XC; which probably is.
Thanks, appreciate any response

Format exFAT or NTFS. Fat32 does not support that size of drive and will also limit you to a maximum single file size of 4gb. Many HD movies can exceed this easily.

64GB SanDisk not working on Note 2

I was using a 32GB Lexar Class 10 card on a GS3. When I got the Note 2, I put the 32GB card in it and was working fine.
Last week I got a 64GB SanDisk UHS-1 card from Amazon ($38 sale). I used it in the GS3 for a few days and was OK. But when I try to use it in the Note 2, there are issues. Most of my files show as 0 byte in Astro or Root Explorer, and I can't copy/paste files or save camera images to the 64GB card.
But once I put the 64GB card back in the GS3, it works just fine.
One thing I did (before placing any files on the 64GB card) was to format it as FAT32 so that CWM would be able to access it. I'm not sure if having the 64GB card as FAT32 is causing the problem with the Note 2, or if it must be in exFAT to work right with the Note 2.
probaly needs to be reformatted on the note 2 for it to be recognized. So backup all files on it to pc and try again.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I'm using the same card without any issues. Def try some formatting options.
I was hoping there was a simple fix, or just a permission issue, but I could reformatt it on the Note 2 if that's what it takes.

hmm i popped mine out of my gs3 and slid it right into the gn2 with no issues...formatted to fat32 aswell.
I ended up reformatting the 64GB card in the Note 2 and check it on the PC, which showed it as exFAT. Then copied my data from the 32GB card to the 64GB card, and it then worked OK in the Note 2. I'm not sure if it was because I first had it formatted at FAT32, and that caused the problem with the Note 2, or if it could have been something else.
But a quick Google search shows a lot of people have had issues with 32GB and 64GB cards on the SGS3/Note2. Some are issues with recognition, read/write issues, files corrupting or disappearing.

like i said mine worked flawless swapping from s3 to gn2 and its formatted to fat32...but yes i agree it seems to be hit or miss.
I "cloned" my 16GB Sandisk card (from my OG Droid) to my new 64GB Sandisk Ultra via a program called HDD Raw Copy from HDD Guru and then I used a program minitool partition wizard to resize the resulting 16GB partition on the card back up to the full size of the card. It is a FAT32 format.
Both of these tools are free.
I am not having any issues as of yet.
I haven't had any issues with my card, just placed it the phone and it was recognized. Do we need to format the card first, or is that only if you are having issues

I have a Samsung GT-P3110 8gig tablet.

64GB flash cards use a different formatting (exFat) which is supported only by a few phones only when using stock ROM, you may be able to find a custom ROM for your phone that does support exFat*
otherwise 32GB will indeed be the maximum usable for your phone*
Normally 32 gb one could be fat32 ( this format has a limit of 32 gb only )
Press thanks if I helped.
You can use blackhawk custom kernel that will support natively exfat

Not just size but what about R/W speed??
using the GT 2- 7 inch - with cm 10.2 nightly build - with a 32 class 10 external micro sd card with Link2SD and folder mount- so that all apps are installed and run from the external storage. Works great! So I thought of changing out the 32GB for a 64GB. I know or think I know that I should opt for a class 10 device but what about read and write speeds - I would think this answer would depend on the tabs abilities as far as maximum rates go. I cant find anything that post the rates at which the tab can transfer data to the external microsd and was wondering if a microsd card could even outperform the tab as far as R/W. In other words the tab can fulfill any max R/W rates so go for the best!
Thanks
Hi, as far as i know the p3110 is hardware limited to 32 GB microsd. So 64Gb won't work properly. As speeds go, i can't really tell. My class 10 reads and writes at maximum speed ( bit lower than indicated, but same speed in other devices).

Ive been running the Offical stock rom (not Rooted), using a 64gb scandisk SD card for a while now (almost a year). All i had to do was get the right format (Fat 32). I formatted the card in my PC using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition on my PC.

The Tab2 is not 'hardware' limited to 32gb. It has to do with what formats your kernel supports. If you have a recent kernel with exfat support you are set.

I have had 4 or 5 different micro sd cards in my tab 2 , From class 6 to Ultra, they all work fine if formatted correctly. I would suggest not using that auction site, there a lot of fake cards there. These tiny little cards don't have the best durability record. Of the 6-7 I have had, a couple have gone bad before a year, but some are used heavily and still work after a year. The price for the 64gb cards is still too high for me. I usually have 15 to 20 movies on my 32gb card.:good:
I have 32 gig micro sd on my tab, without problem!
Hello Guys
Had my Samsung Galaxy tab 2 7 (p3110) for over a year now running stock unrooted. One of the first things i did when i got it was grab myself a Sandisk Ultra 64gig SD card. Had to reformat the SD card before it would work. From memory i used a tool on my PC called mini partition tool to reformat it. Been working like a charm ever since.

The tablet has 8 gig internal memory and the max is quoted at 32gig.

Just dont forget to get a high class SD card such as class 4 if you will be reading from the extSDcard alot! it would be really helpfull,or if you will use it to boost RAM and such
For best results use a class 10 32 GB SD card and haven't tried it yet but it more might support 64 GB too to prevent slowdowns a class 10 one is the best
64gb SDXC
Hi. I ordered a 64gb sandisk ultra plus microSDXC card. I just want to know what I will have to do to make it compatible with my Tab 2 rooted on GB27 4.2.2. I couldn't get the SDHC as the site was sold out, so I ordered the SDXC. Am I going to have to format it through my PC? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
