Which is better rom? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to ask which is better rom dscv2.1 or pcm7? So that i will go for that rom in my dell streak thnx
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda app-developers app

You should try both of them then decide. DSC is 2.3.3 rom and CM7 is 2.3.7, I choose DSC cuz is light and fast.

best rom
MIUI 2.4.20 is ever best rom i installed in my dell streak 5. i used froyo, gingerbread, longhorn. but this MIUI is smoother, faster, graphically rich among those roms. you may find the thread---[Rom] Streak MIUI 2.4.20 English----in this development forum, and install in ur streak. there are many themes. so you didn't install any other home like go launcher or other. the icons, statusbar, wallpaper, locker, settings and graphics are very impressive and you can't stay without that. i didn't face any errors after installed it. thanks to MIUI team for this great rom.:good:

With the plethora of ROMs, what is the "better" ROM is subjective at best. The moderators themselves tend to frown on such threads.
CM7-based ROMs work well, except the camera's zoom function doesn't work and there is no dock support. In addition, PureCM7 has no haptic feedback support for the capacitive buttons, although the on-screen buttons it does use have that support.
MIUI is an unknown quantity to me. Depending upon its sources it may have the same issues as CM7-based ROMs.
DSC is the only ROM where everything works as it is supposed to. This is because it is based upon the Olleh KT Gingerbread ROM for the Streak.
You won't know which is best, until you actually try them for yourself.

New X10 owner

I recently acquired an X10a and I quickly upgraded it to 2.1. I'm using LauncherPro and so far, I'm loving the phone except for a couple of issues:
1) No matter what keyboard I use, it's really slow. I'm a fast typist and so far Swype and SwiftKey seem to work a lot more slowly than on my Samsung vibrant.
2) when I receive picture messages, and tap on the picture to view it in Mediascape, nothing happens. The only way I can view the picture is with Astro.
Any suggestions?
Finally, I'd love to upgrade to Froyo. My ideal ROM would be close to stock Froyo that's reliable and gets good battery life, nothing fancy.
Thanks everyone

Installing jit v2 should help the stock rom but if you wanna upgrade I suggest Z's beta 4 if you want vanilla or a lot of people use wolfbreaks if you want a prettier alternative. Note: do not install jit in froyo roms as it is already included and will cause problems if you install it again.

Edit- ok, stock 2.1 is tons better. What's the easiest way back?
Actually, you'll really love it with Wolfbreak's FroYo ROM. Flash it and let it settle a few days and it's hella snappy with awesome battery performance. But the batt performance sadly is only if you can live without timescape, in my expperience. Flashing his ARC Timescape made the phone hela LAGGY and the battery burned off 1% a minute. I deleted all the TS stuff and it went back to awesomness.
Also I personally like sicNside's Lucid theme for WB's ROM, but there's a catch there as well. It'll modify some system apps. Bad thing because itll take away the awesome phonebook/dialer from ARC. I have, however, redone the zip for Wolf's ROM to make it not do that.
That's my $0.02

Awesome ROM i'm using right now is Freex10 Beta 4 (Android 2.2), with the video recorder fixed. The ROM is stable and excellent. Runs really fast.

If you want a really good looking ROM, try the Bitsnacker 2.1 rom. It is basically the stock rom with the bitsnacker blue glow theme.

If you mean THEMES, check the bitsnacker theme out for the x10 which works on android 2.1 stock and 2.2 Free X10 Beta 4 (for Freex10 ignore first post, check the second half way down the screen)

[Q] MIUI or CM7?

I just want to know what you guys think.
I'm going to be using Bilboa's kernel on both so it's basically just which ROM is better?
I'm asking because tomorrow I have a state sponsored test and when I finish I'm going to be bored and I want to experiment with one these two ROMs. So what should I flash?
UI - GPS = MIUI
Android + bonus - GPS = CM7
Tough decision, my opinion. Neither will have great battery life.
I found MIUI to be sooo beautiful but it kept getting unstable and weird on the XDA app and some other white background apps (color) but I'm on cm7 and its great and a little more stable
PS
Watch my video review on miui for a good though

Haha!
Miui has the great looks that cm7 will never have. yeah sure you guys can change your themes... But can you change them so it affects EVERYTHING?
boot animation.
Lock screen
Icons
Font
Dialer
Mms
Theres thousands of themes, where... Well cm7 has probably a hundred.

+1, has MIUI a working GPS?
And another quick question for you guys: which version of MIUI did you flash on your phone?
I found the one on xda forum: MIUI 1.4.8 (Beta 6) 2.3.3
or the one from SGS MIUI sourceforge : MIUI9000_RC4_VIB <-- for the Vibrant
I want to try that amazing ROM but I need your help finding the good version to flash!
Thanks

My phone has the built in theme chooser.. but I also have the flashable themed zips that are VERY professional (and change everything)... AND, my phone doesn't look like an iPhone (MIUI).
I really prefer the stock android look CM7 brings to the table. Everyone has a preference, no need to knock one over the other. That goes to the person who called MIUI a cartoon theme too, MIUI is sexy... just not MY preference.
In my mind, neither CM nor MIUI,the battery life is the key point to me when I choose a rom to flash.
Since they use the same kernel you could set up Cm7 and do a nandroid.....then flash MIUI and set it up.....then do a nandroid for MIUI. Then you can switch back and forth in less than 5 min!
In my opinion MIUI is less buggy than CM7. MIUI went official and they have fixed almost everything. The only problem i have is that GPS does not work. The battery life is average if u flash version 1.4.15. MIUI's UI is so beautiful compared to CM7.
Again, our comes down to ui, stock android with features, our android that slept with iphone.
Latest cm7 releases are stable, just no gps/poor battery.
i like miui
Actually, both stuffer from similar problems, just that miui will have it fixed, whereas cm7 is unpredictable, but maybe cm7 can take and borrowfrom miui?
I've been using miui a my main rom for about a month now and love it to death. I'm not having any stability issues with all of my Apps. Granted the GPS blows but the Vibrant GPS has always sucked the big one. If I need to use GPS that bad I just put my sim in my G1 which has ****ing amazing gps.

^ agree with every word.
I haven't been on a different rom than miui for over a month.

ROM advice (too many)

Hi everyone...
I'm looking for a ROM that is clean, fast, stable, enables 14 toggle in the pulldown menu and overclocking would be nice. I like the look of the stock UI and everything so not into huge custom themes. What do you folks recommend?
Also, I'm a little confused on one aspect. I know I have to be rooted but do I have to have a custom kernel (like hellcats?)
I have been using check rom since i got my sgs 2 its good , close to stock (with removed useless apps from sammy), comes with options to install different kernel,themes,dialers... etc.
For better Battery backup i suggest use 4 seasons rom but its a themed rom not close to stock.
For first time rooting you need to have CF-root kernel.

I've used SensatioN ROM, MIUI & CyanogenMod.
MIUI should fit you just fine, though you'll have to get an overclocking app.
MIUI 1.12.9 has given me the best battery backup & benchmarks till now.

MIUI has at least 12 toggles in pulldown menu, I'm not sure, but It's also heavily themed

Simple & Clean 2.4.3
Hi! You might also want to check simple and clean - it offers multiple toggles in the pull down menu, and is fast, stable and bloat-free - many stock apks have been removed and the whole experience is streamlined and close to stock.

What's difference?

Is there anyone who can tell me difference between oxygen and cm7
There are many Rom but I really don't know what they are different from
Sorry for my poor English .......
Sent from my LG-LU6200 using xda
well, afaik the gb version is deodexed and that makes it faster or something, also, it doesn't have a lot of options present on the cyanogenmod roms
Oxygen is a very stripped down rom, while cyanogenmod 7 has a lot of features. Some people prefer oxygen others prefer cm7, it all depends on what you want. Which one is faster and which one gives the best battery life is debatable. I personally prefer cm7, but they're both great roms and I'd recommend you give both roms a try.
I think cm7 and oxygen roms both are based on cyanogenmod.
Both are great roms try both and choose best suits for you.
There is no theme Chooser in oxygen rom but it is there in cm7.

Both are AOSP roms. Oxygen is highly optimized for speed and being light and minimal as CM7 is for added features.

You mentioned AOSP, which make me remember another ROM, AOKP (maybe bad spelling!!!)
Is AOKP the rom which has an unicorn as its mark? I've flashed that rom to enjoy 4.0
I like the ROM most
Can anyone tell what its feafures are?
Thx for all your helping
Sent from my LG-LU6200
AOSP is the standard "made by Google" Android project. EVERY rom derives from this. Even the stock roms.
Both CyanogenMod and Oxygen are modifications/branches from the standard AOSP source trees. Both attempt to fix or enhance what Google achieved with Android. The main difference here are features.
Oxygen is more true to AOSP, with a few additions. Lean, clean and pretty fast. When you start adding apps to make up for missing features like I do since I miss some CM features, it does start to slow down a bit.
CyanogenMod (CM7/9/10) adds a whole bunch or neat features you would usually use other apps for to get the same functionality.
AOPK like CM adds a whole bunch of features that are not available in CM and also shares quite a few, Theme Chooser for instance.
Like previously stated, its all about personal preference. Android is about choice, you get to choose what you want your device to do. The best way to find out, is choose the features you need. Test them all and decide for yourself. Each rom brings its pros and cons, which for the most part balances out. Personally I like CM roms because I like the features and they give me a device more capable than the stock rom.

Stock based vs CM7.2 based custom roms :)

Guys i've started this thread to discuss about stock and cm based custom roms
1)which is better in what way
2)battery life
3)gaming performance
4)tweaks available for each
i felt that there is no thread related to this that's why started one
for battery, stock is the best
Stock FTW
Better battery, stable, camera, dialer, music and mms are very good.
Personally I miss tw goodies like integrated task manager button, camera and music player in CM7 so Stock is better for me
Yeah stock is stable, but so is cm7.
However, you miss out on the newer features offered in the cm9/ cm10 /aokp/ paranoid android roms.
I'm using PAC by nims11.
The main reason I personally prefer cm7 over stock is multitasking. On stock if I am using one application and switch to another, then switch back, my place is lost and often the first app has been killed and has to restart. That might be why cm7 supposedly uses more battery (I don't notice a difference personally, but I use my phone a lot)
I'm also not a fan of touchwiz and prefer the customization of cm7.
I love trying new roms no matter what the android version; 2.3.6, 2.3.7, 4.0 or 4.1
Kudos to all the Dev's working hard to make my old crappy ace awesome!

CM7 is best..
A little bit battery drain than stock but has more costomization for daily use..also has no bugs.. all the things is working and stable..
Actually our opinions always have a touch of personal experience. Some people use the stock based just the way they are & some people tweak it more. I've seen that the sgs II v10.1 has a great multi tasking capability ( atleast for me...) . Kranti.ace has really brought out a revolution as his name says. His rom is pretty smooth & he's promising further improvisation. What else to expect? Just the devs to bring out the better of what's already best...
I used to have beautiful life before. Now I'm in engineering...!
Completely correct.
