I turn on Internet sharing on the phone. I connect my MacBook Pro mid 2010 to the phone by WiFi. Now you normally have an Internet connection on your laptop through your phone. In my case the WiFi connection from my laptop to the Lumia keeps disconnecting after just some tens of seconds. This has happened on 2 different Lumia 920 phones used on 2 different MacBook Pros and an iPad. On Win machines the Internet Sharing seems to work just fine.
When I re-connect, re-connect, re-connect for 4-6 times, I finally get a stable connection. But even then many times the conn is slower than a 56k modem despite the phone saying 3G or H+. Sometimes it takes 10, sometimes 60 minutes to establish a stable H+ connection.
- Not a router channel issue. This also happens in my car in the middle of no where.
- Phone is unlocked.
- Carrier is Elisa, a Finnish operator.
- I have network priority 3G and 4G. This is NOT an carrier problem. The carrier does not restrict internet sharing.
So any ideas?
Remove spaces from WP8 Broadcast Name

Try removing the spaces from the Broadcast Name in Internet Sharing on your Lumia 920. I had this problem and after reading many forums where nobody had a solution, I tried removing spaces since routers don't usually broadcast names with spaces and it worked! The first time I connected to the new name I had it disconnect once or twice but after that it has been solid for hours at a time day after day

I am happy htc hero user for 2 days. Tmobile (uk) branded. My problems started from the very begining. My phone was able to see my router and even connect with full signal strength but connection was inactive - couldnt do anything, browser giving error like no network connection available. I did my search and found kernel might have some issues with wpa psk coding. Tried all the settings on router (even with open network) - nothing helped. Updated to MoDaCo 3.1 rom and radio updated to newest available (downgraded using goldcard to root). Now i got wireless, can connect but its kinda slow (slower than 3g/hsdpa) and signal is very weak. I cant get signal at all downstairs where htc touch hd and nokia e71 both show ab 50% ?! even if i go to bathroom signal strength drops to 30% while htc touch hd and nokia e71 got ab 70%.
Router is netgear dg834g v5 - virgin.
Any suggestions please. I really like the device and this is only but major drawback.
It has been reported a lot that the Hero does not like some wireless routers. Various suggestions include that they won't connet to those using n rather than b or g. they will say they are connected but whenever you try to download you get an error message. I have 3 routers - 2 work fine and 1 (the newest and most expensive) doesn't.
Try a search of these forums for more details.

I agree on this one. The signal is better one some routers. I have a great signal all the time when connected to my Linksys WRT54G (old but good one). At work, where we got Cisco SB Wireless-N Gigabit VPN Routers the signal drops quite often...
I was wondering about this.
I have been using 3G internet on various android phones - HTC Legend, Samsung Captivate, Optimus 2x, and now Samsung Galaxy S2.
It seems that i can't get a good internet connection.
I believe this is related to the ISPs in my country, but just to make doubly sure, I want to ask all of you, if you are facing the problems below:
a) Internet connection dies abruptly, with indication that there is data up, but no data down.
b) a slow mobile data startup (sometimes up to minutes long) in an area where 3G connectivity has been previously good.
c) disruptive internet connection while downloading apps, that dies off, forcing you to restart all over again.
d) a consistent pattern where 3G dies after certain amounts of data downloaded or certain amount of time.
e) having to constantly go airplane mode and back, just so your 3g internet is alive again.
f) Inability to multitask on your 3G mobile internet.
g) tethering causes death of 3G connection when done with more than one device. Also can't tether to a single device while surfing on phone - as this will cause connection to die.
h) 3G connection dies and restarts by itself. (even in a location where signal is not a problem).
I love android, but the instability of 3G on Android is frustrating. I personally don't think Nokia or iPhone has these problems (could be wrong).

Phone - SGS2
Telco - DiGi
Internet speed - 1MBPS according to speed test.
Is this an APN problem? Telco problem? or OS problem?

You said it
I believe this is related to the ISPs in my country,
Thats what i would be checking first as its no use asking if users ten thousand miles away are having the same problems . It would be well reported if so .
You may also try a change of modem .

Has anyone else had issues with the strength of the wi-fi signal on this phone? When I'm in certain areas of my house, I will have severe lag with browsing, with the People hub, etc. Music and video will stream poorly, with heavy buffering. Basically, I get all the signs of low signal. The problem is, I've never had a problem with other phones I've used, including an HD7, Dell Venue Pro, Nexus S, Nokia N8, etc.
I tested the WiFi signal in these areas, and I get back a consistent signal between 70dbm - 80dbm, so I have a moderate amount of signal to work with. Has anyone else noticed poor WiFi coverage with this phone? Should I get it exchanged?
Same. Something is definitely fishy with the wi-fi on this device. It seems to come and go, and manifests as poor or even no wi-fi capability even when the phone says it is connected to a strong wi-fi signal.
I frequently cannot get a solid Tango video call going between 2 Radars on my home wi-fi network. Pretty frustrating seeing "network problems" and getting a choppy experience when both phones are on wi-fi with full signal strength.
My WiFi is solid with my N router
Today is my first day with the radar and I'm noticing WiFi issues. I think though some of it is related to Zune WiFi sync connecting...
Sent from my HTC Radar 4G using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
For the people connected to 802.11n routers, are your routers in pure N mode?
The Radar I have can connect to my 802.11g router no problem but can't even find my 802.11n. I'm thinking it doesn't have N connectivity...
Just asking.
Mine is BGN

I found out my particular problem is the Windows Phones only work on the 2.4ghz (currently used on my 802.11g router) band and not the 5ghz (my 802.11n router) band.
Now I know.
To the OP, this 2.4ghz band is usually crowded so maybe where you are going in your house, your phone is meeting with interference (land line wireless phone, neighbors wi-fi, etc...).

I don't think it's an interference issue, as every other device I own has no such issues, including 3 other Windows Phones (Dell Venue Pro, HD7 Omnia 7). And despite already using the channel with the least interference, I've tried switching that around as well. To me, there is clearly something not performing correctly in regards to the WiFi radio on this device.
Hi all,
First post - here goes.....
One of the primary reasons I got the SGS3 (UK 3 network) was to get broadband at home - where I live (deep dark west cornwall) I cant get decent internet via the fixed landline yet I found (and tested) that with a yaggi antenna on my roof and a repeater I can get ridicoulously fast mobile data (10Mb/s) thorugh my SGS3 whereas my landline (which I pay alot for) can barely reach 1Mb/s.
Anyway from tests so far it "seems" that connecting via USB tethering is faster than setting up a wifi hotspot however every time I connect using USB tethering it sets up a new network (I am now on Network 68!!!) on my computer - Maybe this isn't a problem but it really annoys me. By this time next year I'll be on Network one thousand and something which knowing MS will clog things up. Also tethering via USB cable has really varied connection times - sometimes it takes 5 minutes before its all recognised and running.
Wifi tethering is really quick and simple - It connects instantly but "seems" to provide slower internet on my computer compared with USB tethering.
What is really odd is that if I do a speed test on my phone using Speedtest.net app on my phone I get 8-10Mb/s but if I run a speed checker on my tethered laptop it isn't as fast. Is there any mod/fix I can apply so that when I am at home and tethered the speed is "channeled" as optimally as possible to my laptop?
Best regards
Ginyons
I constantly drop wifi in my house. Is this just my phone or is it an issue? Tried everything and won't stay connected. Network just disappears and then connects 10-15 second later.
I have some issues also. Just bad firmware on LG side
I'd check your wifi modem, I use my LG V10 on numerous different modems, and have no problems with it. It connects to my home, alone with a few places I go to, and even when tje signal is extremely weak. So I'm not seeing the same thing
Also have issues on Wi-Fi
2.4 seems to hold connection longer than 5ghz. Luckily I have unlimited data. I have almost never used WiFi on this device due to this. The problem is both on my Asus RT router and my brother's Netgear Nighthawk router. Both with latest firmware. I'd like to have the option of a stable WiFi connection though.

I've read a few posts that suggest being sure the MAC address of your phone is registered with your router. I've come from 2 galaxies and I do feel the LG is a little more sensitive to a low or fluctuating signal. I "feel" it, but everytime I actually compare, it doesn't seem to be the case
Thanks for the advice

Tried the registering the Mac on both bands. Tried several device resets. Disconnected all other attached devices from the router. Had much hope for this. But no bueno. Still dropped connection after less the three minutes. Disabled 4G and the other nanny settings for WiFi on the V10. Just hoping for the much needed firmware update (s) for this sweet phone.
Again, thank you for the advice and your time.
