Cyanogen Roms and SD card question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Ok, I have tried the CM10 rom and the Paranoid Android rom. Here is my question, I formatted my SD card with my phone while using Beans V2 rom (assuming exfat?) and the first time I flashed CM10 it said my SD card was damaged and I had to reformat. I just flashed PA and I took my SD card out until I was running PA and then when I put the card in it said damaged. I restored to Beans V2 and it still says my card is damaged. What are CM based roms doing to my card? What is the solution to this? Formatting on a CM based rom? Thanks
Ok, I can't format the card on the CM based rom. So is the solution to format on my computer first? Fat32?

I am having the same problem as you with, coming from Beans to Phandroid. Now, I cannot seem to mount the Internal or External SD, either using MTP, Mass Storage or Clockwork, What did I do wrong!?

I don't know exactly what is wrong with you're card because I would assume that it would be fine once you went back to beans but I can at least confirm that fat32 on my 64g is working fine with paranoid android.

must be formatted to fat32...read section 3 of my guide!

Yup. Figured it out. Thanks guys. I'm still not sure why CM based ROMs would corrupt the card but I guess that's for another day.

i'm glad it's fixed.

[Solved] External SD not working?

I have inserted my sd card from another phone. It is 2GB. I formatted it to FAT32, still cant see on the phone ie on doing a mount I get only one card drive..other one is missing. Any ideas anyone?
well once it happened to me then I realized I didn't put micro SD right...lol...anyways so assuming u did everything right and still can't see micro sd and sd card and storage?...have you checked that card with another phone or MicroSD adapter....
I installed MIUI and stange external sd not working since last two updates.....
Also I installed Bali kernel over it....
Any help ?
Nobody mentioned what ROM you were besides last poster but I believe if you are still on gingerbread bootloaders than you won't be able to see external SD. Just my $.02

If you're on gb bootloaders + anything CM7 based, not external sdcard for you until you go back to froyo bootloaders.

Wth does that have to do with not being able to see the external sdcard?

@JediDru , @geoffcorey:
I am on CM7. Sorry should have read the bugs/issues befor posting the query.

Why is my GS2 seeing my SD card as internal & vce versa

Before I ever started flashing kernels or ROMs my GS2 sees my internal card as the SD Micro card and my SD Card as the internal card?? Anyone else have this or know why this is??
Example, just now I went into CWM to update my SHOstock ROM and had to choose internal card for it to see the update even though I put the update on the SD Card..
same thing happened to me yesterday when i flashed my gs2 for the first time. i thought at first i accidentally loaded the zip onto my internal sd accidentally but i double checked and it was definitely on the external sd.
That's just the way it works on Entropy's kernel. I believe it even says so in his thread.

Yup. Someone didn't read the Changelog.
Cyanogenmod labels their partitions differently than Samsung-derived ROMs (Samsungs don't follow the current Android standard).
Right now the CWM binary in Daily Driver is pulled straight from CM7, so I haven't had a chance to recompile and label the external SD as external instead of internal

Hey guys. How do I make the external SD card the default location to where my data goes. I bought 9 MM And it required a full gig of data and it all went on my internal storage

No clue - turns out that what the OP was talking about was how CWM reports internal vs. external.

[Q] how to switch internal sd (currently sd card) back over to internal sd (emmc)????

how do i switch the interal sd card(emmc) to external sd card(sdcard) back to normal? currently its ext sdcard(emmc) and internal(sd card)...i believe thats the reason why my external files arent visible on my phone because my phones external sd card is emmc (took out my microsd and in cwm said cant mount emmc) and my internal sd is sd card aka ext sd. if that makes sense... is that better that way with the vibrant? is it rom related? i do know its been like that since i switched to miui. im running docs ics v12 now. is there a way to create a path to the ext card(mounted as emmc) on the sd card root path? so if my internal sd is set to be extsd it thinks its its saving on the extsd but isnt so it wont have a external sd path? and my external is set to be internal so i cant save anything on it with my phone though i wonder if when i flash a rom those files are saved to my ext.. so if i were to format my emmc (extsd) would that mess my phone. f-it im about to try it now lol.. formated, done, reboot... well i dont think it hurt anything and i know my extsd is completly wiped now but im still stuck with the problem on not being able to transer anything from my internal sd to extsd because there is no path for it in the file browser, i dont really want to go through the trouble of backing up my internal sd card, formatting that hoping it doest brick my phone like ive read b4, putting what files i want back on it, just to be stuck with same problem an hour later. seems like there are many post on this but ive yet to find an easy solution. i know someone has had to of come up with a fix for this... thanks
I'm running with internal sdcard only, but used to use external. Cyanogenmod handles both fine. I tried AOKP build 35 and had no sdcard, and tricks I tried with symlinks or mount -bind had no effect. So one fix is to find a good rom. There may be other ways around it.
I flashed aokp build 36 a few days ago and my internal and SD was switched too. I found this file posted by Mr. Physco and flashed my memory back to normal. I'll try to find link and repost

This commit has been reverted. Next build should return it to normal.

so does anyone know of a good ics ROM that supports both sd cards? Last ROM I used that supported both sd cards I think was bionix v. I guess it's really not that big of deal since I can stream my music with google music, but I would like to use the empty 16GB memory card I have in my phone for game data or movies. So Akop build 36 has a fix for that? I'll have to check it out, thanks

Try CM9. That one supported both my SD's (Galaxy Player 5.0). But, beware of directory changes. The external SD is now under "mnnt/emmc/".

[Q] SD card not recognized

Okay, so I'm currently on the SnowJB ROM and that ROM can access my SD card. But I want to go back to the Nocturnal ROM(I'm kind of torn between the two ROMS). Only problem is Nocturnal cannot mount the SD card. I tried both version 1.5 and 1.3 and neither of them work. I went into the settings and clicked "Mount SD card" but I get a notification telling me that it's safe to remove my SD care(Unmounted)
And I also tried to install the Slick ROM and that couldn't read the SD card either. So I restored my SnowJB ROM and it can read it. So I'm totally clueless on this. SnowJB is the only ROM that can mount the SD card... Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Any help at all would be much appreciated.
How is it formatted? Did you format it in the snowjb ROM?

I don't remember doing anything to it while I was on SnowJB. It just... Worked. It was formatted in the FAT32 format. Now formatting it using exFAT. Doubt it'll work, but it's worth the shot. Just got done trying the Stock AT&T rom(with root) and that wouldn't recognize the SD card either.

Fixed it... It was a pain though. Had to use the LGNPST thing to return my phone to factory settings(no root/locked bootloader) then had to re-root.

CM11 Doesn't Recognize External SD

Hey guys, I just posted here about my LGOG getting kernel errors and such. I have since fixed the issue, installed TWRP 2.3.6 (I believe) and flashed Cyanogen Mod's nightly build for CM 11, 12/11/13. The flash was successful and I have no issues other than my external SD card not being detected. TWRP also does not recognize the external.
I remember reading somewhere that it may be the format of the SD card causing it to not be read, but I'm not entirely sure. Any advice would be appreciated.
This was just me being kind of stupid. I should have figured that since CM11 has been out for 2 days that it's gonna be a bit unstable and I assume that external SD cards are a problem at the moment. I flashed the stable CM 10.2 build and everything works just fine.
Will be fixed soon.
