Starting all over from JB - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi! I have rooted but locked Jelly Bean device. I'm really fed up with sluggish performance of Transformer Prime. Is there a safe way to unlock the device and install custom roms like Cyanogenmod? I really like it on my phone. I have read about NVFlash, that it should protect my device from bricking, but it seems that its' not available for JB. Is there any other way to brickproof the Prime?

Looking forward for suggestions on this thread. I am also facing the same issue and just created new thread. The performance was comparatively better on ICS. The JB is actually too good as I am running it on Note 2.

If you want custom Rom you have to unlock. Only method is via official Asus tool. NVflash is currently only for ICS, so there is no way to brickproof on JB boatloader.
You can flash, but he careful to flash only JB roms.

Thanks for the info! So apparently there is no safe way to revert back to ICS to get the NVFlash? Is there any hope that we would get the NVFlash for JB anytime soon? I'm sure i will screw up something if I try to mess around too much without brickproofing... Can't afford to brick right now. =)

No, you have to have NVflash to downgrade. But if you make sure you install fw for JB bootloader, you shouldn't have any problems.

On .21, No root, no CWM?

Forgive me as I'm coming from HTC land but I just got my Prime yesterday after coming from a TF101 and updated to .21 without checking if the root methods work on it. I know there's no root method for stock .21 yet so does this mean I'm unable to flash CWM and unable to run any custom ROMs until then? I'm assuming without root I have no way of flashing another blob, correct?

You have to unlock the bootloader first... actually, no you're screwed for the time being. You need CWM to flash a custom rom once you unlock your boot loader, but you need root first to install CWM, and so far there's no way to root .21 update. I guess you could unlock then attempt to revert to a earlier firmware version, then root, install CWM, and flash a custom rom. Once you unlock your boot loader you will not be able to receive OTA updates.... or just wait until a root process is discovered for the new updated, then root, unlock, etc.
See Dev forum all details.

I don't think it's possible to downgrade at that point. You need root to flash a blob.
I really hope they come up with a way of rooting the .21 update.
Damn, that's exactly what I thought. Sonofa!

Hopefully, we'll just be rootless for a while.
I love this tablet on stock, but I can't wait to start flashing.

You are able to flash CWM.
It seems to be working fine.

I might be a little confused. I can use that method to flash CWM but don't I need an unlocked bootloader to flash a ROM? But I need root to unlock the bootloader right?

i'm in the same position as you and found a solution from another thread
if you want a stock based rom download virtuous prime its based off of .21, download it first
unlock
load clockwork mod
follow install instructions for virtuous
flash virtuous, since the rom is already rooted you will be rooted as well
this is what i did and i'm running superuser and all apps that require root.

Short answer: No.
So before I go any further, I just want to make sure I've got everything clear in my head. I unlock, flash CWM, then flash ROM correct?
Edit: Nevermind about ViperMOD.
Edit 2: It's done. I unlocked, flashed CWM the fastboot method, and then booted straight into CWM to install VirtuousPrime.

How to return to complete stock?

This might be a dumb question but how do i return the rezound to complete 100% stock? thanks
If you never flashed ics ruu leak you can relock and use gb ruu.. if you did ics ruu, then best you can do is a gb Rom...ics not out yet...so gb is the ofical stock.

Ok good, just go through reading on how to flash custom roms, kernels, & AmonRA 3.15.
Once you read up and I mean READ you shouldn't have any issues if you decide to go to custom roms. Should be able to fix anything with the device once you have went through at least 3 custom rom flashes. I suggest one of the ICS roms as your first flash as it's rather straightforward vs rolling back to gingerbread from the RUU.
I thought the phone would say that you're re-locked if you tried to re-lock it. If that's the case, is there a way to revert that back to a "locked" status?

Only way for that to happen is if we get S-off for the device. Sounds like a method is done testing for the Rezound so a matter of them releasing it .
This doesn't return you to the old radios if you updated them, does it?
I have had bluetooth issues since going to the leaked firmware and ICS. Flashed everything multiple times, etc, etc with no improvements.
If there is a way to get back old radios and GB, or if this IS the way, I'll be ecstatic (or ex-static pun). From what I read I thought you couldn't get back to original radios.
Is this the solution to returning to old firmware?
Only way is with s-off and running a gb ruu. Doing those 2 things will give you back the gb radio.
You can run gb Roms until then....requires a sd card patch, check the op of a Rom and it explains it there. Might give a little better performance until s off is released.

right. need to be re-locked and stock non rooted.
I do not understand why you would want to unroot and unlock to get the OTA "when released". In about a day after it is released I am sure a Dev will have a flash-able version posted.
Maybe but since we don't have s-off don't we have to relock to flash the new firmware and radios? Hopefully we have s-off before official update comes.

I didn't think it mattered if you were rooted or not. I thought the things required to get an OTA update from Verizon were:
1. LOCKED or RELOCKED
2. Stock Recovery
3. Close to Stock ROM
Somebody please correct me if I am wrong...

Wierd, I read a few posts in another topic that said you had to be locked or relocked in order for the new radio to flash...
What about me?
Well my bootloader screen at the top says ***tampered with*** and then under it says ***re-locked*** and rom is a "clean rom" (ICS based). I purchased (expecting a stock device) and it turned out to be rooted/flashed. What I'm wondering is when Verizon HTC releases the "official" ICS update, will it come to my phone? If so, this would be the quickest fix for me to get stock again. I'm not concerned with "bloatware" etc, I just want things Verizon/HTC stock. I don't download enough apps to be concerned about bloatware and internal space etc. So from what I'm reading here, being "re-locked" and having a flashed rom that's close to being stock should allow me to still get the update, am I correct?
In short, what I mean is, will the update come to my phone like it has done previous android devices (that weren't flashed)? Or will I have to flash another OTA based cooked rom AFTER the official one comes out and someone "cooks" it?
You will not get the OTA if you are rooted, that's for sure. If it's the stock ROM, you'll get the option to update, but it'll fail during the installation. I've seen it happen on a few HTC devices and even my rooted Xyboard tablet lol. But, just to be safe if you DO want the OTA, install the stock ROM (If you're on an ICS ROM, you're going to have a tough time getting back to stock. It's bricked a lot of people's phones. You have to restore the firmware yourself, I think.) and relock your bootloader. Don't be worried if it says **Security Warning** this simply means that your bootloader has been unlocked at one point in time.
Just make sure your phone is on a stock, non-rooted ROM with your phone locked to make sure you have no issues. Better safe than sorry.
lol?

relock/unlock
You do not need s-off to relock. I unlocked and installed scotts cleanrom. I then a month later relocked installed the leaked OTA ICS update so i could have the new radios. Then unlocked again and installed the cleanrom DE senseless yesterday and i am loving it btw! I get decent battery too (13+ hours with moderate use)!

[Q] Should I unlock the bootloader?

I am about 2 months away from my warranty expiring and I wanted to know if it would be beneficial to unlock my prime.
If so, it would really be helpful if someone could elaborate a bit on those benefits.
I've seen some neat things done with custom roms and would like to delve into it.

From my understanding the I/O problems are mainly Hardware issues so a Custom ROM wouldn't help there. I am not 100% sure about this though.

Good to see that there is a JB based rom available, because I've really enjoyed stock JB on my Prime and would miss not having it.
I heard unlocking does remove the ability to use ota updates, so I was a little torn thinking I would not be able to use JB anymore.
This is very good news. Thanks!
Give me some feedback...
At the current moment my prime is being used as a daily driver. It is my college life all bundled in to one awesome device. Android version 4.0.3 ICS. It is rooted it has IML74. US_epad-9.4.2.28.2-20120529 It has latest superuser it has been backed up Voodoo OTA root keeper shows 100% The device is NOT UNLOCKED, it does not say that it is unlocked on start-up, ITS LOCKED but It has CWM 5.5.0.4 My first method of rooting was done though vipermods exploits Last time I updated I just flashed the proper/suitable stock .28 build that I have now through CWM from a rooted .21 stock
I can flash custom roms for unlocked devices but I am worried about a possible brick if I update to JB....but i remember unlocking the device when i was in .21 build...or before that....i need some guidance

Need some help.

So here's the thing, I'm new to all of this but basicly I want to install linux on my Transformer Prime.
After the research I've made it seems like I have to root it (If this is not correct please tell me). The guides on rooting I've found are all for ICS and not for JB. I have 4.1.1 installed on my tablet and I can't seem to find a way to root it. If it's not possible to root that version, is it possible to downgrade?

To install the versions of Linux that you can install on the Tf201 you have to have an unlocked boot loader (use the app from the Asus website), rooted (only possible on 4.1.1 if you were previously rooted on ICS or are unlocked, which voids your warranty btw), and have a custom recovery. Preferably you would want Nvflash installed because it makes your device brick proof but this can only be done on ICS.
So to make all of this short: there is currently no way to root JB 4.1.1 without unlocking and therefore voiding your warranty from Asus and the only way to downgrade from JB to ICS is to already have an Nvflash back up of ICS. Do not try to flash anything but a Jelly Bean rom with the Jelly Bean boot loader. YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PRIME DOING SO

It depends. Jelly Bean seems to be coded rather well and there may be a span of days to months for when the root method will be developed by the amazing developers here
