All I heard was Nokia will be rolling out the update to the Lumia 920's by the end this month.
With the HTC 8X they rolled out the update to unbranded devices first and branded devices the following days. It might be the same with the Lumia 920 update - e.g. AT&T today, next batch tomorrow, etc. But at the moment we can only guess.
It looks like it's a definite for today (December 19th, 2012) for AT&T branded 920's-

From NaviFirm, I can see some European variants has the new firmware. Not sure when they will be able to do OTA, but if you don't mind to restore your backup, then flash it with the correct variant. I think we will see more from now till the beginning of January, and by that time, all the Lumia 920 will already have the latest software.
I updated my phone through the Nokia care suite and every thing works great as well as the new options.
Was looking forward to getting the update for my Lumia 920, which is being released in the US today.
Turns out Nokia aren’t going to bother releasing it in other markets till February 2013! What a joke!
I know Nokia are pretty much only just breaking into the US market, but ignoring somewhere you actually have a fan base is a very bad idea IMO. And to delay it around 3 months is just a joke! WP8 has been out roughly 1 month and they have managed to process and create the update for the US market, so how come its going to take an additional 2-3 months for the UK market, it simply cant take that long.
They have stated no reason for the delay either.
It wouldn’t be so bad if it was just a camera update, but it is there to fix genuine bugs in the OS too, like random restarts and so on. Luckily I have rarely suffered from the restarts, but I have noticed it happen a few times in my month of ownership.
They need to pull their finger out and release the update in a timely manor around the globe.
Also what happened to the ability to by-pass restrictions and update your phone as soon as an update because available that Microsoft spoke about when announcing WP8?!
Still, it doesn’t detract from the fact that I really like my phone, and the camera is still very good. But it is incredibly annoying knowing that those little bugs and niggles have been fixed, and that the camera has been improved further, and its clearly been tested because its being released on consumer phones. Yet we in the UK will have to wait 2-3 months for it, for as far as I can see no reason at all!
I got mine yesterday, so far so good!
By the way, the update is NOT for the US only, it's also being rolled out to Rogers 920's in Canada.
US and Canadian devices are identifying themselves as RM-820, the EU Lumias are RM-821. It remains to be seen what differences actually exist but it seems that the US Lumias are simply similar phones but not identical to the EU variants.
Flashing RM-821 onto RM-820 devices to debrand them seem to have failed as far as I read the reports here. But still I agree that the OS update at least should go out to EU Lumias ASAP.

Thank you very much! Still waiting for my I9305 to be shipped, and it's probably going to be locked too. Going to travel in March 2013, so I'm glad to hear it can be unlocked already.
Had to cut my Three SIM down to micro sim size but thats no big deal when the outcome is such a good phone.
Where did you get the phone from in the UK?
also what speeds are you getting with 4G in the UK?
I got the phone from T-Mobile shop in manchester. The EE 4G service hasn't been rolled out nationwide yet so currently still just on 3G until the end of the month.
Will be great to see what the UK can get

I have been testing later Nokia models, but I think Lumia 920 is still one of the best Lumia models. What do you think?
It's possible to argue about Lumia 1020 looks, but 920 definitely wins on overall design, it's just nice, balanced device to hold in your hand.
Similar situation with 925, then Nokia just screwed balance and feel of the phone, not to mention very poor case and button quality.
I don't consider 1520, since it's totally different class device, more a tablet, than a phone.
So Lumia 920 still the best even it's more than one year old now? Have you considered later Lumia models?
Yeah, I like mine, but as soon as Nokia releases Lumia 1520 to my country (Brasil), I think I'll swith to it...
I already had 1520 for a bit, it doesn't even fit to a pocket. I don't like phablets in general, especially Windows Phablet for me doesn't make any sense. Microsoft even laughed about Android and iPhones with ads like these
And they are offering office/media/big screen Windows phone now. Really..?
Not a 920 owner, but a 928 Verizon version, which is a slightly better version of the 920.
Overall I find myself using this and pleased with it. There are some things that just annoy me but I hope Microsoft or Nokia change it. Can't export SMS out of the Lumia. You can import all fine but can't Export saved messages. I'd probably make this my main driver if not for this one thing.
Anyway, just love the look and feel of WP8. Also got this phone because it's unlocked out of the box and couldn't beat the price. Had I done a bit of research would have held off from buying this device.
Can't Tether. I'm sure it probably works on Verizon service but didn't work for T-Mobile, Net10 or H2O MVNO I use
Have to keep the phone on EDGE to properly use T-Mobile. Everything works except sending text messages out
One Net10 the phone works completely MMS, SMS, Internet (no LTE obviously because of device and radio).
I have H2O as my service and everything works except can't receive MMS. Tried and searched internet. Couldn't get it to work.
I could really take a break from Android and lately, just how embedded google services is becoming really worries me. I would have gotten a 920 but found a really low price for the 928. I have some regrets, mainly because the device is designed to work for Verizon. Its GSM Unlocked but there are certain things that don't work and had these items been better advertised by Verizon, I wouldn't have gotten it. MMS is the real hurdle and it may or may not work on the 928 really depends on the carrier or the APN but again, I blame Verizon for this shortfall.
Gonna keep an eye out for WH8.1. I love this hardware, just looks and feels premium. If this Lumia supported Android, forget about it. I'd jump to Nokia.
I think you have listed Verizons branded model problems. Standard WP has a feature to backup SMS on Skydrive and it has tethering and of course is unlocked by default.
I had Vodafone UK branded 920, it was a mess. Runs slower, has poorer reception and doesn't get WP updates. That sucked, but I flashed it to standard FW rather easy, now I have dev unlocked device and I'm one of the first to receive all over air updates and cool features.
1520 and 920 side by side. Actually, 1520 wins on screen quality with colors and details, but still there isn't much use of a phone, that doesn't even fit a pocket.

I have a mate 10 pro, model on about device and package itself says BLA-A09.
I'm not able to get any updates, the phone is stuck on December 2017 patch, I talked to Huawei customer care on the US, they ran my IMEI number and are telling me that the device is model BLA-LOAC, saying that it's a Chinese variant.
The only thing I've seen online with this model is that it was sold by Best buy in the US, but Huawei says it's from China.
Has anyone see this model in China, or anywhere else?
Never heard of it. Where did you buy it from?
If it shows as BLA-A09 it's either the US variant or perhaps Mexican variant.
What is the exact build number?

I got it from a contest, after contacting Huawei like they told me that my model was a BLA-LOAC.
when I run my IMEI I'm getting BLA-LOAC as well in the information. I am wondering if this is to be expected. Might be useful to have a few other folks check their US A09 model to see if they get the same. I'm not getting the latest update either but my phone is on the .112. So it must have updated at some point. I also just had a chat with Huawei support US and the confirmed the LOAC. I've also been told that it will get the update once they get it fixed (couple weeks). They stopped the release of the update because of the broken camera (the guy wrote
The team in charge stop to release some updates to avoid the issue with the camera.

But take that with a grain of salt or more. Left hand not knowing what the right is doing.
This is what came back from Huawei support:
Code:
BLA-LOAC
Model: BLA-LOAC
IMEI/SN: VQM0xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Expected Expiry date: 2019-05-16
Your device can be supported in: United States
IMEI scan attached as well as system info.

I'm still waiting for Huawei support team to see what it can be done, you guys are in better shape then me, since my phone it's stuck on 8.0.0.65, with December 2017 security patch, and hasn't been able to update since then.
Also have the LOAC which was purchased at BB. Spoke with a tech, who told me that this variant is the unlocked version. BLA-A09 was meant to be carrier specific, which means just AT&T correct? They both have the same hardware. I took the update which showed up this morning. Don't use the night mode, or light painting much, both are still broken. Tech told me they are aware of the issue. Expressed my frustrations with the lack of updates, he assured me that they are working on getting everything out to the US. Mentioned the hardware differences as the reason why we are behind. Spent some time comparing specs between the variants, and I can't find anything listed differently, including radios. Oh well, we shall see.
Update, mine got the update just now on my BLA-LOAC. i don't believe anything is holding back the update except the way their servers push them. Note that I was travelling out of town while this happened. Probably a coincidence.
Maybe the tech rep opened the server for my IMEI, lol.

Hi peeps,
I'm from Holland and i bought myself a Samsung s8 active global gsm unlocked from a seller in the usa via ebay. However the phone is branded with at&t firmware and somehow it isn't possible for the phone to find a network here in Holland. When i search manually for a network, it finds the networks which are operating here, but when i try to register onto the network it says that it's impossible to register...
I hope someone can help me with this!

i search your device and it say it only has 3 variants AT&T
T-Mobile
Sprint
also openline is the right keyword not "Debranding"
in my country openline usually cost $20 US dollar but i guess you can do it yourself by following guides from the internet ?

Well ok... thanks for your reply. Like i said, I'm from Holland, so pls excuse me for not knowing the correct terms. I searched the internet and found some pages in Dutch where i found the term branded phone and debranding, so i figured that is a universal term for it...
I happen to have a T-mobile subscription here in Holland. So it should be possible to use the phone with T-mobile firmware if there isn't a "unbranded" firmware version.
this guy has the same issue with you https://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung/Unlock-instructions-for-Galaxy-S8-Active/td-p/5850469
also this website is worth checking
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/
Thanks for your answer. However, the top url doesn't work and i allready tried the bottom one... can't unlock myself via at&t because i don't have a at&t phone nr or account... never had. Can't create an account because they ask for a at&t phone nr which i don't have. I bought the phone on ebay and it was shipped to Holland.
Had contact multiple times with Samsung Europe and they said it would be no problem for me to use the phone here, but it seems that's not the case.
hmmn since most option require you to have at&t mobile# and account which you don't have the only option i see is contacting at&t FB page and say your case ( you just bought the phone on ebay and didn't know its network lock ) who know they might openline it without paying anything ??

Is there someone who can help me with this? I can't find anything helpfull on the internet so far...
I really want my new phone to work here on the Dutch networks but it seems to me it's solely because of the at&t firmware that's stopping me from doing so. Is there any way to get rid of that firmware safely? Personally I'm not interested in the whole warranty thing because since i have this phone shipped to holland, i can't get any warranty with samsung Europe, so for any warranty i have to ship it back to America which i won't do because of the costs that will come with that.
Suggestions/tips are more then welcome!
Some progress
In addition to this subject... been in france with my 'new' phone and inserted my sim-card to see what would happen. Immediately it found a network and I could make calls and use 4g internet. Back in Holland it still works but the reception is poor. Been searching for the right apn settings, found alot of different suggestions and tried a bunch of them. So far so good. When I change something in the apn settings, 4g internet becomes very slow or is entirely gone. It seems I'm on to something here but I can't find out which are the best settings.
I hope someone has more understanding of this problem...
Flashing firmware
Ok so it now seems the at&t firmware is the problem. But is there a save way to flash T-mobile software to the galaxy s8 active? It has bootloader 4 on it

Is there a way to force update it?
Just bought an ATT G8X from eBay, good price. And then found out the software stuck in November security patch version 10i.
As I'm not in US and I don't have an ATT sim, there's is no way to get the OTA right? Now there's no kdz released and and no cross flash version of lgup available.
Various G8Xs are receiving Android 10 updates now in US.
My unlock LM-G850QM got it yesterday.
I am also in the ebay deal boat. Stuck on November. Someone please help!
Unlocked version got updated last I believe. Did yours get updated yet?
The updates are probably rolled out over days so update server doesn't get overwhelmed, so there may be some which are in the queue to get updated.
Mine updated in airplane mode with WiFi on.

Ok, for all of us that bought the unlocked AT&T model off eBay, aren't using it on AT&T and haven't been able to get any updates....I either just got really lucky, or I found a solution. About a week ago, I purchased a prepaid AT&T SIM card. I figured it was worth the risk of $10 to try and get all these updates I'd been missing (especially Android 10). They offered a cheap "$2 per day" plan, and I figured once I was activated on their network, I could update everything and then cancel. Well, that didn't work out so well, as they don't tell you about the activation fee, which would have brought my total up to like $30-40 just to get some updates, and I wasn't going to pay that. However, technically I activated the SIM - I just left it in limbo having never paid. Now flash forward about a week....I can't remember what inspired me to check, but I tried to do a system update this afternoon and IT WORKED. This was with a Metro SIM installed, but while on my home WiFi. At first it was just a monthly security update. After reboot, I did it again...got another security update...did it again, got Android 10, woo-hoo! Meanwhile, I need to go run an errand, so I leave home, disconnecting from my WiFi. My phone was still not current on security updates, so I attempt another. While only connected to Metro, any attempt to update fails. I get back home, reconnect to WiFi, and boom, it works again. Two more updates, and now I am running Android 10 w/ the October security update! I am thrilled! Either I got really lucky and coincidentally AT&T changed how they deal with updates for phones not on their network sometime over the last week, or my aborted activation put my IMEI into their system, which greenlit my ability to access their servers and download my updates.
So, if you're itching for Android 10 and the latest security updates, and are willing to spend a few bucks to get 'em, give this a try...
1) Buy a prepaid AT&T SIM - $10 at Target
2) Put it in your phone, but DON'T activate it online - rather follow the instructions that came with the SIM that allow you to activate via the *# codes, I used "*123*ZIPCODE*02#" for the $2/day plan.
2b) You can try to run an update right away, but that failed for me multiple times.
3) Put your regular SIM back in, skip paying AT&T anything more 'cause they're gonna try and sock you with with an activation fee too, and go back to using your phone as you had been.
4) In about a week (feel free to try sooner, but I'd wait at least 24 hours), connect to WiFi and try and update again. Repeat until successful and/or all updates are current.
5) Enjoy Android 10 (it's about freakin' time), and cross your fingers to eventually get Android 11.
Please reply if this is successful for you, I would like to know if it was helpful.
