Hello guys. I have a serious issue with my atrix. My touchscreen stops to work completely random. I've had this problem for a long time but when I restarted the phone, everything was ok for months. Yesterday it stopped completely. I was with the original ROM and put CWM and tried few roms. When I install new rom the touchsreen works perfect for X time. Last night I put jellybean and everything was ok for 2,3 hours. Then it started f*cking up. My phone rings and I can't pick up, turn off the display from the fingerprint button then turn it on again and it works. Later it got worse and now even a restart does not help. Phone works, rings and everything but I can't even unlock it?! I haven't tried changing the kernel yet, because I know nothing how to do that and there is not much how-to on the internet about that. I guess it's not a hardware problem, so maby it's the kernel. I'm quite a noobie in this stuff, but I read alot and I'll apreciate your help. 10x
Which Rom are you using
are you using leaked ICS or CM10/AOKP by epinter or Th3Bill.
before trying kernel i would suggest trying using a different rom, CM10 by epinter works fine for most of the users
Definately the problem was the kernel. I have some success, changed few kernels and the problem showed even trying to install CM10, you know the installation is made by touching stuff. Now i managed to make it work by installing 2.3.6 kernel + GB 2.3.6 and it is working so far. I'll test it for few days to see if it will die again and then try CM10 with the newer kernel. Last night I flashed CM10 and everything was ok for few hours, then the touch started making trouble and eventually stopped working completely. Will post update tommorow to tell if it is ok.
edit: It didn't last 1 hour, died again. Restart doesnt help. Phone works fine, but no touch response. Don't know what to do... different kernels and roms and same problem every time. Waiting for any ideas...
i have the same problem, ive tried a couple of different roms too. does your capacitative touch buttons stop working as well?
Try PDS Fix, else its digitizer
it looks more like a hardware problem, atrix digitizer are quite well known for such failures..
though i think it is not a PDS problem, i would suggest try PDS Fix once, it has helped a few
Get it from here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131649
If this doesn't work i would suggest get a new digitizer off and replace it.
It's sound like a hardware problem definitely. The first thing you should do is to check the ribbon cables and connections. If it does not help you may need to replace the touch digitizer panel.
ropin1 - Yes, the capacitative touch buttons stop working aswell.
I'd have to read more about this PDS fix, because I have no idea what're you talking about.
So you are saying, that I have to change the digitizer only? I saw on ebay, that you can buy the digitizer with the cable on it for about 20$.
edit: I just disassembled the phone and checked all the cables and connections. Everything seems fine to me. Reassembled the phone and the screen still doesn't respond. Maby I just have to get a new digitizer... :/

First off: Let me clarify that I searched the forums but could not find any thread that described my problem. If this has already been answered, please help me close this thread.
I'd been running the Desire V5 Android build with Jul 23rd zImage for a while now without any problems.
I recently started having lag, slowdown and non-responsive touchscreen (I'd have to wake my device many times before it started responding). Last evening, it stopped responding completely. I pulled the battery and booted back to Windows, only to see that that touchscreen wasn't working even there!
Worried, I flashed the shipped ROM for my T-Mo HD2 - no SPL (RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.1_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship) and the touchscreen started working again.
I thought everything was fine and started Android, and found that the touchscreen stopped working.
Now, even reflashing the shipped ROM doesn't seem to do anything.
What can I do? Should I do a Task <what>? Has anyone seen/had this problem before? I'm hoping it isn't defective hardware.
Ok, got it working
Ok, I got it working again.
1. I did a Task 29 using (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781&highlight=Task29, ShaDrac's repack).
2. Flashed a ROM (I used the T-Mobile stock ROM, but I guess anything else would have worked too).
Hope this helps if someone else faces the same problem!
I wonder why this happened, though.
Im glad you got it fixed
Maybe you can put a [fixed] or something in the thread title to help others?
Just a thought

Guess I spoke too soon! The problem is back, and this time I didn't even boot into Android. Guess it's the hardware. I'll just have to install the stock ROM with SPL and go back to T-Mobile!

I have the same problem. Right now, I think it's the hardware. Just sat down the other day with my HD2 in my pocket. Maybe it has been bent or something like that. I don't know....
the same thing is happening to me..at first if i locked my phone and the screen wudnt respond..now it wont respond at all..i tried flashing it..still not working!!..has to be something with android..i installed a new android build the day b4....or the new cookies home tab replacement...i installed that too...dont kno wat to do now...
I have had the same exact problem.. the touchscreen stopped working when my friends and some chicks were taking pic (EMBARASSING ) ).. and i even tried it on windows mobile, didnt work. tried that yellowish button in the back of the phone to reset it.. nothing happened.. so i plugged in my phone to charge up (IN WINDOWS since i couldnt boot into android.) It was charging the whole night, and when i woke up the issue is gone, havent had it at all after that.
i am almost positive its hardware; you all are describing the same exact problem i had a month back. i finally had enough and called htc, found out the phones are warrantied for a year and sent it in for repairs. took about 3 weeks and my phone was back, 100% fixed and cost me nothing out of pocket (well except the cost of shipping the phone to them). instead of fighting it, call htc......i was so glad when i got this problem fixed it was so damn annoying! good luck all
Thread moved to Q&A.
I had the same problem a few months back. It is certainly hardware. I had this problem before android was available on our hd2's. I task29'd it, flashed to stock rom, and reverted to stock spl. Nothing fixed it so I had to send it back to T-Mobile.

Before you ask, yes I did search first.
My HD2 (T-Mobile USA) started having issues with the touchscreen yesterday. I have read that many other people have had the same issue, and that it is a hardware issue that in turn causes a software issue.
I have yet to see a clear explanation for it though or a solution.
Usually the screen briefly doesn't work, and can be fixed by simply putting it in standby a couple of times. Occasionally though, the screen stops working altogether and will not start working again no matter what. I have tried booting into Android, flashing new ROMs, nothing will fix the touchscreen until it decides on it's own that it is ready to work again.
I used to have this issue occasionally before, but after I started using Darkstone or MCCM roms I rarely see it happens now.
I never had this problem until a couple of days ago, and I have been using Energy ROMs since I got the phone about 6 months ago.
The problem started when I began to use Android, but when it stops working I can't get it to work again even in Windows. I just flashed another ROM to see if that helped, but no luck. It hasn't worked since yesterday.
I was able to call HTC and even though I am not the first owner, they allowed me to send it in and repaired it free of the charge. They opened it up and replaced the LCD and digitizer (Thanks, HTC!)
Hi, has anyone experienced the screen going nuts?
From time to time this happens. There seems to be an empty spot where it doesnt detect any input. For example, if I'm swyping a word, the line just breaks and I end up with gibberish.
My capacitive back button doesn't seem to work as well. I have to sort of hold it before it registers any input.
The problem started only after i flashed the latest version of CM7.
The problem is not a permanent one cause it comes and goes. This makes using the phone a pain in the ass sometimes.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there a way for me to fix it?
I've reflashed the ROM countless times to no avail.
Please help.
Which version of CM7 are you using?
Did you format system partition before installing?
I'm running on CM7 V7.0.3. I've flashed the previous 2 versions and it was the same. And all those times I formatted everything before i flashed the new rom.
Do you think it's the rom or it's a hardware problem? The digitizer going bad perhaps? I haven't dropped the phone before and the problem is intermittent. but it's such a pain.
can anyone help me out?

Same thing happened to me. Took my phone to an AT&T store and they replaced it since I was still in my 1 year warranty. It was the digitizer doing out in my case. Happened after I tried cm7 too. Even unrooting didnt fix.

I've experienced a problem with my Atrix actually quite randomly one day. While on jokersax's CM9 KANG ROM my touchscreen and capacitative buttons became unresponsive at a seemingly random time.
I've tried to wipe dalvik cache, reflash the ROM, wipe to factory settings and then reflash the ROM, even tried the PDS partition fix but nothing has worked.
I don't know what to do now... can anybody help from here? Thank you so much!
After trying all that I would start wondering about the hardware not the software
Hit thanks if this was helpful

Hi, you just described my exact problem. I'm using GingerMod 2.3.6 # 9 but I can't remember if I had this problem with the French ROM, that was my first Custom firmware. The only way to make it back to normal in my case was pulling out the battery and, recently I discovered that "adb reboot" worked too, so, if I'm not near a PC I need to pull the battery...
I'm afraid it's a HW problem, since my warranty was voided almost a week after I got the phone. Hopefully someone could post something that can help us.

I had this same problem and eventually my screen wouldn't work no matter what. I tried all the same things you guys did to no avail. I just flashed a stock fruitcake [couldn't find original recovery] and sent it in to Moto. They just got it a couple of days ago and I'm still waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully they look past my software modifications and realize that it's obviously a hardware issue.
When I was on miui rom a few months back, this problem was very small and almost never happened.
Back to cm7 nightlies and it happens all the time.
Just happened. Lol

Same problem..
Flashed Turl's CM9, experienced a crash and 30% of the screen has become unresponsive since... It sucks and I need proof of purchase in order to send it in.. Too bad I bought it second hand.. Motorola... never again.
Me too. I've been blessed by unresponsive capacitive buttons. I was looking on how to edit an ICS Rom to include on screen buttons, but I just settled on downloading Button Savior to save time.
Is it possible that there is a bad connection inside the phone that I could fix by myself?
If someone knows how to make a ROM I would love if there were an on screen keyboard ROM (fingers crossed!!!).
F word... same problem for me.. i dont think it is hw because i just got my phone back from motorola for a dead touch zone repair. it never became unresponsive until i put cm9 on it... WE NEED A FIX!!!! i cannot use my phone at all. pds fix didnt work for me either
After searching and trying to fix this for a few weeks, I'm finally reaching out for help, I really don't know what else to do.
My vibrate function seems to be completely dead.
I rooted the phone a while back when I first got it and everything was perfect on the first ROM I was using. I then flashed to a different ROM and lost haptic feedback but kept the other vibrate functionality (alarms, texts, etc.) Sorry I don't have specifics on the ROMs but I know the issues may be have been due to the i9100 porting stuff causing haptic issues
My vibrate functionality kind of slowly stopped working.. Sometimes when the headphones were in it would work fine, then I'd take them out it would stop.. and Vice versa.
It does SOUND like it's a hardware error.. But that seems a little silly since there have been multiple issues floating around w/ ROMs and haptic/vibrate problems.
Before I take any further action, anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking to re-stock the phone entirely (unroot, stock kernel, stock rom) and see if that does it.. I'd rather not send it in to get replaced but I guess that would be an easy option if I can't fix it via software.
I googled vibration not working galaxy s2.
Found this but I didn't watch it as I am not on wifi.

Same happened to the last phone I had, the HTC Aria. I ended up just taking it to an AT&T store for replacement. I even tried going back to stock. Nothing worked on mine.

Yeah, already called att for a replacement and its on the way. Finally decided to give up after getting it back to 100% stock (kernel rom bl etc).
I literally tried everything. But in the end it makes sense that it is a hw problem since so many others have run into it too. Poop.
i watched the video you showed. i started to mess around with my settings while i inserted my headphones on. Somehow, everything is fixed but the vibration is not as strong as before.
Furthermore, my aux does not work with this phone sometimes. It would need to be connected a certain in order for it to work.
I probably dropped my phone while I was working out while i have my headphones on. The connector probably got messed up in the process.
I might need to send my phone in for a replacement. Since i'm not under warrenty, i might send my phone to a lab. I'm pretty sure they can do something about it.

The vibrator turned out to be a hardware issue for me as expected, fyi.
