Hi Everyone,
I'm a long time lurker on these forums but have finally decided to make a post,
I have found these forums very helpful over the past couple of years with my android devices.
Anyway back to the thread,
When I had my old Galaxy S2 someone modded the default internet browser to have a permanent user-agent option which allowed you to select desktop user-agent so it stopped loading up mobile versions of websites.
I'm now asking kindly if someone can mod the default browser on the Note 2 to have a user agent option which permanently solves the problem of loading mobile pages
I have tried the about:debug trick but it's not a permanent fix, next time you load up your internet it resets back to android
I will also point out I have tried other browsers such as Dolphin, Firefox etc... but I honestly really like the default browser more than the others, it just needs a user agent option in the settings menu.
Thanks in advance
For the record I'm running a rooted N7100 in UK- BTU
Won't be bad but I have seen that if I select 'Desktop view' and even exit the browser when I go back in I see the same website loading as Desktop mode. So I think it remembers the option.

Yes but when you open a new page it then goes back to android,
I know this might seem a small issue and may not bother some users but it's just something that bothers me,
I know someone modded the browser on the galaxy s2 so I'm sure it can be done on the Note 2
Yeah, I'd love to set my user agent as an iPad, so that I'd get tablet sites.

Hi, can you go into more detail where I apply this string?
I didn't find a features folder or others folder under system/csc but I did find others.xml file, do I add the string to this? If so where do I paste that string in the xml file? Also do I reboot into recovery and clear cache etc...

Yes only this:
<CscFeature_Web_SetUserAgent></CscFeature_Web_SetUserAgent>
Open others.xml with test editor. Or put it on your pc desktop, open with notes, add string and save, replace it into the phone.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for your help so far
I did add that string in the others.xml file using the text editor in root explorer, i saved and rebooted but it hasn't worked
I must be doing something wrong, do I need to replace any strings or simply add to the strings that already exist in the file, if so then do i simply paste the string onto the bottom of .xml file
Thanks again

So I copied your file over mine, set the RW/R/R Permissions, rebooted but it hasn't worked

Hi, try this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mhdol8nt3wg87jx/others.zip
The other file did not seem to be correct. I also added the string to add the button to exit the browser. Put others.xml in system/csc, set permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot. Let me know if works.

Your a legend! It worked
Thanks so such, I now see an option to exit browser which is handy, and it seems that websites are automatically going to thier true desktop state
I looked at the other.xls file you edited, I assume your desktop string simply makes sure that the "desktop view' option is always ticked.
Thanks again!
God knows why samsung can't add these options themselves

While playing (a bit too much), I must have deleted the password setup icon/file from settings and cannot change or disable the password screen. Anyone knows what the file name is and can post it here or email me the file. I know the password and can get in but I really don't need it and would like to disable it.
The shortcut is exactly like this:
"ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1"
>> without "" quotes

Thanks ezzkht, but how do I create the shortcut?
Try to copy any shortcut from \windows\start menu\programs\
and paste it to the location you want, rename it & edit it using Total Commander (right-click on it & choose Properties, then go to Shortcut tab and change the TARGET parameter to "ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1" without quotes.
The icon will automatically change to the password icon

Sorry ezzkht, I did exactly what you said but it did not work. Tried with and without quotes, tried 0 instead of 1 but the icon never changes to the password icon just an executable icon but nothing happens when I click on it.
OH yes you are right!! sorry!
Ok here's the shortcut, I just get it from my device..
I opened it with a HEX editor & found the following line inside it:
51#ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1?\Windows\cplmain.cpl,-6000
plz tell me if it worked with you
Hi ezzkht, I tried but this also does not seem to work.
I checked the registery and their is a mention of a Password.cpl in the Windows directory which is not in mine. I installed logologin and picturepassword and have recently removed them, don't know if they might have also removed this file. It may be the the problem, do you have this file.
Neither me, I don't have password.cpl file in \windows directory!!
I have cplmain.cpl only!
I noticed that the password link points to cplmain.cpl with a parameter of : password.cpl
I guess that cplmain.cpl is a composite file which contains alot of programs, one of them is the password program!
Do u have the cplmain.cpl in windows directory??

You got that right, finally got all the programs and the look I want. I am going to do a backup via Activsync and a clone backup tonight at home then if all else fails I will do a HR, copy any missing files from the windows directory and reinstall my backups.
Seems a great idea
Compare the two WINDOWS directories, and copy only the missing files..
Good luck dude
Ok, I rooted and remapped the keyboard, and ti works fine, however, in order to get rid of the ugly language bar in landscape mode, I unchecked "default input settings" in the settings and.... they keyboard started acting as finnish/swedish again! When I checked "default input settings" - it reverted to normal. Is there any other file to edit?
ive got teh same problem
hmm since its still trying to grab qwerty-se-fi....what if we replace that with the qwerty-en.xml.
nope no dice
Any other ideas where the keyboard layout might be hiding?
if you uncheck the default input, the system uses the qwerty.kcm.bin file in /system/usr/keychars folder.
to get that replaced by the english layout you have to copy the qwerty-en.kcm.bin file from the /system/usr/keychars/mimmi/keyprints folder up into the /system/usr/keychars folder and save it as the qwerty.kcm.bin file.
i have read this somewhere on the x10 forum. i can't find the topic at the moment.
as i mentioned in another thread, the paths are from android 1.6. they might be different on 2.1.

I downgraded to 1.6 German and will wait for official release. Having a Swedish layout on a German keyboard using English for typing is too much for my poor brains. Meanwhile since you ar on 2.1 can you check the idea below?

I strongly suspect that this file will be the same in 1.6 . So what I will try to do - save this file from a german version of 1.6, flash nordic, and install the file from german version.

actually i found the answer, and just want to share it with this forum, in this section.
Open the stock browser, and type "about:useragent" without the quotes.
Then you can select or type in your desired usr agent.
Hope this helps.
no its not working.
all it does it change the user agent in current session.
not change the DEFAULT user agent.
the default is always mobile. it sucks. still looking for a way.
i like the default browser, but the user agent problem is a real pain
If you're on a 3.x based ROM, try and find the "browser from Xoom" on these forums, this has the option in the settings to set the default user agent to Desktop
If you're using the ICS CM9 Kang, search the market for ICS Browser + and then in the settings (not the menu!) change that to desktop as default. With this program, based on the original ICS browser, there is a menu option to switch quickly between the two user agents for such websites that don't work in desktop mode (like Google Images, for example)

this does not "stick". Close the browser properly, restart your tab or if the browser force closes then you will have to do the about:debug trick again. The only way to permanently change the user agent is either:
1) as I have said above in post #3, or
2) by extracting browser.apk from /system/app, decompiling, editing one of the files, recompiling, re-signing, pushing the modified apk back to /system/app, modifying permissions of the apk, and finally clearing the app cache.

answer : Dolphin for Pad
Yeah, the about:debug method works. the settings maintain even after rebooting, hope it stays that way.
the dolphin for pad, does it sync with google chrome?
if not, its stock browser for me.
It worked for me but gone after rebooting , anyway i don't mind writing it every time i reboot my tab , it is not a big deal .
thanks and regards
I believe you must be rooted for the change to stick. That's what did the trick for me.
i am indeed rooted
In my browser i found the uastring option under settings-troubleshooting(feilsøk). Did the debug command first but i dont know if it made a difference. Seems to survive a forced close of the program, but haven`t tried booting yet.

Hello, I just rooted my phone and I have CyanogenMod ROM on it and Apex Launcher right now. I want to change some things on my lockscreen but I don't know how to do that.
Here is my look screen right now: http://i.imgur.com/5CrbU.png
I want to take away the LV TELE 2| Tele2 thing on the bottom and then change the clock and date text, because it looks ugly in my opinion. Is there a way I could change that?
And also the circle above the Tele 2 text, can I change that? If so, how?
And also when i type an SMS, it vibrates when I type one letter, how can I remove that? I have tried to untick vibrate in settings but it doesnt work :S
Thanks in advance!

This is a development area, not n00b help desk.
[edit: topic moved now]
Yeah, this is really the wrong section.
Read the rules again and everything's fine.
So, for deleting carrier name, just google, there's a tutorial.
Is changing the font enough?
Then just replace the fonts at /system/fonts. (You can find the correct one by the name.)
And the circle. Decompile your framework-res.apk and look for the graphics at the hdpi folder.
If you don't know, how to do this, google. It's easy, if you know how to do.

If this apps works for you, you can use it to set the carrier name to ' '?
You can find some nice fonts here. http://www.dafont.com, http://www.1001freefonts.com/
Or if you want to use fonts, which are already on your computer, they're located at: C:\Windows\Fonts
So, to change them.
The folder /system isn't on you sd. It's on your phone.
You can view this folder, if you download any root explorer app from the market.
Then you can find the /fonts folder and replace some fonts.
For example there's the font 'DroidSans.ttf', rename the font to 'DroidSans.bak' and then copy some downloaded font into this folder. Then change the name from (for example) Arial.ttf to DroidSans.ttf.
Reboot your device, and it's ready.
There's a app, which is easier, but with this method, you know, what you're doing, and you learn something.
But, just in case, the name of the app is 'Font Changer', you can find it in the Play Store.
The circle on the lockscreen..
To change it, you have to copy you framework-res.apk, which is located at /system/framework to your sd and then to your computer. (Or you upload it to dropbox or someting else, just bring it to your computer. xD)
Then rename it to 'framework-res.zip', after this you can open it by winrar or 7zip.
Go to the hdpi folder in res and search the image of the circle.
Then delete it, and put your own image (it should have the same dimensions) into the archive. But important! Don't select 'normal compression' or anything else, just 'save'!
If you have this done, change the file extension again to '.apk' and put it to your sd.
Then, copy it with any file manager, and paste it into /system/framework.
This can brick you device, so create a cwm backup before!
It worked succesfully for me with 'ES File Manager/Explorer', but only with the method, where the dialog 'Replace?' appears. So don't first delete the framework-res.apk
Okay, and for vibration.
Go to settings, keyboard, keyboard settings, and uncheck vibration. That's it.
Now my hands hurt.^^

I don't think I will change the circle on the lockscreen because It seemed hard and I'm to "noob" to do that and I don't wanna brick it. But I'll save that information If I wanna do it later.
If I go to settings, I can't see anything saying keyboard or keyboard settings.( But It doesn't vibrate anymore when I write messages on facebook) kinda weird :S
Got 3 other questions xD maybe off-topic but hope you can answer them
1. I recently rooted my phone and put on CyanogenMod 9 and now I have Apex Launcher Pro on it. But I can't find my contacts or where I add contacts so I can save my friends phone number. Do I have to download an app for this?
2. When I'm on my lockscreen and wanna unlock it, I drag it and it unlocks. But It vibrates when I drag it, is there a way to delete this vibrating?
3. I've used Swiftkey 3 keyboard but I don't like it so I want a new one. I loved the keyboard I had before I rooted on ICS verision 4.0.3. Is there a way to get that keyboard now in root? If not, do you have suggestions for me which keyboard I should download? I don't want one that they correct the words I write, only a simpel and easy keyboard.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks
I have no clue what font I should use but I'll see which one I will download because there are so many
I don't think I will change the circle on the lockscreen because It seemed hard and I'm to "noob" to do that and I don't wanna brick it.

Try Ubuntu font, google for it.
No? Or 'input settings'?
There's no contacts app? Maybe it's just hidden in apex launcher. Go to apex settings, drawer settings. And check the hidden apps. Or look in the apps section in the normal settings, if contacts/people app exist?
Hmm, in miui, there's an option for the vibrating. But as far as I know, in cm not. But you can google for it, maybe there's a mod or control panel, which includes this.
Yes, I hate auto correction too. It's very bad if you write in different languages..
In the settings of swiftkey, you should be able to disable the auto correction. You can access the settings directly via the keyboard. There's a key for this.
But I prefer the stock ics keyboard. (Play store: ics keyboard) It's very simple and you can disable auto correction and vibration too.
I hope, I helped.

Hello again
Above here you wrote:
The folder /system isn't on you sd. It's on your phone.
You can view this folder, if you download any root explorer app from the market.
Then you can find the /fonts folder and replace some fonts.
For example there's the font 'DroidSans.ttf', rename the font to 'DroidSans.bak' and then copy some downloaded font into this folder. Then change the name from (for example) Arial.ttf to DroidSans.ttf.
Reboot your device, and it's ready.
When I want to rename the DroidSans.ttf to DroidSans.bak , I try to open it with different things but all of them open random **** in a language I don't know. How Can I rename it? Do I need to download an text editor from the play store?
Thanks in advance!

You don't have to thank everytime, there's a 'thanks'-button, which you can/should click everytime, if sb. helped you.

For renaming, you don't have to open the file.
Just press long at the file, and there should be a popup, with options like 'rename', 'copy', 'cut', 'open', 'properties' etc.
If there's no option to rename it, use another file manager, like 'es file manager' or 'root explorer'.

When I tried to rename the DroidSans.ttf file to DroidSans.bak, it says "Operation failed". Have any clues what I should do?

Of course, mate.
If you're using es, go to settings, scroll down and enable 'root-explorer' and 'mount file system'.
Then there should be a popup of superuser, just accept it.
After replacing the fonts, remember to set the correct permissions, too.

Worked I think, did everything you wrote before in this thread. But the font didn't change on the lockscreen. Is there another file I should rename or change too in order for it to change font on the clock on the lockscreen?
Ooo alena gilbert...lol
Ok you can edit framework-res.apk for that... and for font in lockscreen i think change font with something like clock in name with one of your choice.. dont remember exact name....

DroidSans.ttf was just an example.
So, I'm not sure, but try Clockopia.ttf.
But a while ago, I used a cm-build, where the lockscreen font was named something like. 'androidclock.ttf'
So just look, maybe you can guess it via the name, which font it is. If not, you can copy them to your pc and click on it, then windows let you view the font. Then you just have to look for these special numbers of the lockscreen clock. And the last way is to use font changer.

Hello xda community, im a student, i want to make a little project:
I state that im not a programming expert, it's just a passion.
I would like to add a button in the whatsapp menu to set a language created by me (a dialect), I decompiled the whatsapp apk and found the app_srings_en.pack file (translation binary file) that can be modified, I guess, with an android development tool. I'm going to create an app_strings_XX.pack file that can be set from the whatsapp menu, my question is if it is feasible and how to do it.
Thanks for help!
ps: sorry for not perfect translation!
You can add a language to the app over the phone, if your phone is rooted, through the "mt manager" application.
You open the app, open a file with an arsc extension, click on edit arsc, click on the name of the package usually the last line, and go down to string, and click on the options, click on Add, and add the language you want, then you enter the line you created, Click Options and click Add, and choose which strings you want to translate, and save, good luck.
unluckly when i tried to do root i've breaked 2 phones so i don't want to try another times.....i know when there is a root you can do this but i want to make stable app to share, can i do it on android sdk? maybe adding some strings...

If it is not an application of the system, you do not need to root your phone you can do it even without rooting

when i said android development tool i meant android sdk on windows.
So do you mean that i can edit the app on the phone and i can debug instantly?
No, I meant you can translate and add Languages the application by phone, through "mt manager"

You open the application, it should be there, not in any folder, a file with a yellow mark.

Im using an apkeditor from pc "apk editor studio 1.4.0" cause translate all the text from smartphone is a little bit difficult. I thought that edit some files in apk for translate an app was easy but now i realize...
