Siyah Kernel & CM10.1 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed CM10.1 and Siyah kernel on my phone. And after flashing the kernel there are several errors, some processes doesn't work anymore.
Does anybody have the same problems?

flash the latest Dorimanx v7.33 and see ma8, since it also supports CM10.1 for u
PS- u should expect bugs since CM10.1 is still in its beta stage

Flashed it and runs perfect!
Thank u very much!
Yes found some bugs, for example problems with the keyboard, but I'm looking forward these will be getting fixed soon

Tried it. My phone became hot, though. So, I reverted back to CM10.1's kernel.

so why many people use siyah kernel or similar ones?
Overclocking. But unless your a ridiculously heavy user... u don't need too on this quad core beast
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Of course custom kernels offer undervolting.. which greatly improves battery. Slows the phone down though.. and that is if its stable.

Undervolting doesn't actually slow down the phone, the CPU still runs at the same speeds just on a lower voltage. I have undervolted my s3 by -75mv per step and it is still very stable and runs the same as before, and now my.battery life is amazing

Well...
Dude, i think i should not answer it as you are asking personally from one person....
But heres my opinion->
I tested about 4 Kernels.
And it was strange to see that none was there with 0 problems. Everyone had some or other problem.
My mission was overclocking.
No kernel worked well except Siyah.
So i will only refer Siyah.
About versions, i would choose the latest as it may have more features and less bugs.
So just go for latest.

Jaskaran probably just answered your question but I use siyah v 1.5 beta 4,.so the latest one pretty much. The stock settings of the kernel are good but if.youre looking to tweak and don'tknow what you're doing there's a good.guide in the 2ND post of the official thread

[Q] kernels

I am so so sorry if this has been asked before but my gf sg2 is giving me a head ache.
How the hell do you put a kernel on the sg2 I have rooted it and flashed cm10 and all is working lovely but I would like to put here a good kernel on what saves her battery etc Think my problem is I am so use to doing it on my htconex by fastboot its thrown me. Does anyone recommend a good battery savin kernel and thanks again
You can flash a kernel by Odin, or CWM. We don't have fastboot here

Yeah, I usually wipe the cache and dalvik. I would suggest dorimanx since it gets updated regularly, just watch which one you flash. There are different numbers for different versions of android (ie gb, ics and jb).
And for battery settings, download extweaks from the play store after you flash it and find a thread that has battery tweaks

Didn't go to plan DL dorimanx kernel wiped dalvik cache and cache flashed the zip it rebooted and the I get a black screen with the bottom keys started flashing then I got it back into cwm which was dorimanx cwm by this time and flashed cwm10 and gaps and got it back what am doing wrong I feel like crying
You probably downloaded a version which isn't compatible with your Rom. Flash siyah 4.1.5 with that Rom and it should work
I'm sure there's a version of dorimanx too that's compatible with the Rom you want..but I'm not too familiar with dorimanx versions..so..
link to siyah www.gokhanmoral.com
Use the .zip version of siyah 4.1.5 and flash it via cwm.
Good luck.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Oh. Okay..I'd assumed you'd tried the latest dorimanx kernel, 7.4? I'm not too sure and were trying an older ROM which it didn't support, and hence suggested siyah 4.1.5
Try either dorimanx 7.4 ( if you haven't yet) or siyah 5.0 ( has a few variants..try the rc1 zip file) and it should work unless you're doing something wrong which it doesn't seem like you are, or the latest cyanogen build isn't supported by either of those two kernels, which is incredibly unlikely.

Haha..I'm glad. Would've probably saved you a while if you'd mentioned which version of CM or dori you'd tried at the outset itself..but heyy. As long as we got there eh. Hope she enjoys it. Cheers mate.
EDIT. I hope you / she knows that you'd probably get pretty bad battery life for the first cycle or so on a new kernel. Let it run by a couple of battery cycles or so, and battery life should get better. And 'reset fuel guage chip' in this app called ExTweaks helps if you're on siyah or dorimanx
Yup, give it at least 3 battery cycles before you judge the battery life

[Q] Wrong automatic timezone after installing rom

After installing ROMs on my galaxy s2 1900 like JellyBam or Revolt, they both cause a timezone issue. After a while, the automatic timezone detects GMT. Sometimes it goes back to the right timezone (australia) but it generally stays on Greenwich mean time. Of course I can manually set time, but it's been bugging me for an answer. Is this an issue with AOKP type roms, or the kernel? Or something i didn't do during flashing?

Need a fm radio app

Hey guys,
I have a rooted galaxy s2 running jelly bam android 4.2.2 rom, fm radio app is missing in the rom. I need stock jelly bean rom of galaxy s2, or any other alternative app. I tried fm radio by Sutton shin of play store it didn't worked for me
(not Internet radio apps like tune in etc. A traditional fm app like stock app)
Thank you.

Yes, For now none will wrk on AOKP JB v4.2.2 or roms based on it
Bottom line is, if you really need it, run stock. If you want an alternative (to work on AOSP), code it yourself. Just about every dev who's ever been asked about this has gone 'Who cares ?' (Codeworkx did this quite memorably once & threw a bunch of expletives in for good measure).

So the main conclusion is people have all kind of experiences with different kinds of firmwares. Try them if you want to, and decide which one you like the most

i used wakelock detector...
i had two apps as culprit
one was chronus clock widget and the other being wechat
however dun know why only stock kernel was able to put the phone in deep sleep with wechat enabled and wid custom kernel no deep sleep occured.
so either i choose dorimanx (its definately superb) or my girl friend (who chats wid me on wechat) coz she has no whatsapp on her n73 now u know the situation
