He states nowhere that he changed the ROM, Kernel or baseband, only that he unlocked the phone. Or do you know something about his phone that no one else does?

I did a google search and i found the program i think. it's here, check if that looks like the program you used.
At the bottom of the page it says this:
Trouble Shooting:
Error message: Phone unlocked but no service
Solution: Run software again and start from stage 4 (put phone in boot mode and proceed). Ignore “account has zero credits” message. You can unlock the same phone as many times as you wish.
Maybe that will help you

Hi all,
Tried to install a custom rom last night, it was all going well then I could not get any further as I can not install a custom kernel due to the bootloader still being locked.
Is there any free way of doing this yet ? Or do I have to use the paid service "Omnius for SE" for example?
Is there also a cheaper option than Omnius if it has to be paid?
Many Thanks

Did you try official method on http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ ?
Mine is 12w14 unlocked via official method since test point method is not working
nope. I think it works only "bootloader unlock allowed: yes" device. mine says no :/
Hey guys, i just sim-unlocked my phone, they gave me the unlocking code, i put in another sim card and unlocked it, but it still says bootloader unlock allowed: no!!! why is that? I was so happy until i saw that
You need to do a SIM UNLOCK via TEST POINT method no via code.

Hmm....SIM lock and Bootloader lock is different my friends....unlocking SIM lock just to make your phone usable with any SIM card while unlocking Bootloader is for development purpose....
