When I first got my Lumia I noticed that it charged slowly, not that I'm horribly impatient and can't wait for a 2000mAh battery to charge slowly, but like 7+ then 8+ hours on the first two days.
I thought this to be odd, so I stopped using my included Nokia wired charger and switched to the one for my HTC Titan and decided to record the charge time with an app. I did not receive a charging plate because I bought it off contract from ATT and their offer is only valid if you do and the free wireless charging plate promotion is only good within the UK. :/
Every night since then, to go from 0% to 100% it takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes. This certainly isn't bad for me, I'm simply curious about wired charge times others are getting.
How long does it take your device to charge fully?
What about on the wireless plate?

Using the provided charger it is about 2.5 hours for me also
it takes me 1.5 hours with provider charger and an energizer QI charging pad

From 0% to full?
It definitely takes no more than a few hours for me on the wireless pad. I haven't gone all the way down to full drain yet, I think the least juice I've had left would be around 15%.

Hi guys
I'm an iphone 3gs owner at the mo but my contract is up in a week and after doing A LOT of research over the past 3 weeks, i was pretty much decided that the GS2 was gonna be my next phone.
Then i foolishly visited the xda forums! lol (in fairness, it probably still will be my next phone).
But seriously though, setting aside the various issues some people are clearly having (reboots, battery drain, etc) what shocked me the most was hearing about the low-powered charging mechanism (apologies if i've gotten this slightly wrong).
I've heard that it only charges at ~650mah, but that the phone can easily surpass this under load (~850mah?), meaning that you could be charging the phone at the same time as using it, only to find the battery going DOWN. Can someone confirm if this is true? If it is, then i'm gobsmacked that Samsung could make such a c0ck-up. Imagine if you're using the GPS (a real battery hog) while driving (and plugged-in to the ciggy lighter) only to find that the battery dies before you get to your destination! lol. I've heard about the heat this puppy produces, i wonder did they limit the juice to stop it from burning a hole through the floor
Even though i'm bored to t1ts with my iphone (and i hate apple), what i love about it is that when i don't actually use the phone for extended periods of the day (which is quite often, due to work) it still retains it's charge really well (i get insanely good battery life). I would be really annoyed if i found the GS2 battery dropping any more than, say, 30% over the course of a busy working day (say 9am to 7pm) with virtually no use.
So, to finally get to my point! My iphone charges REALLY fast. I'm worried that it will take a stupidly long time to fully charge the GS2. Can some kind person please do an experiment for me, and see how long it takes theirs to fully charge (from fully dead to 100%) with the screen off and the phone not doing anything major in the background?
Also, it would be good to know how this compares to the GS2's competitors.
Sorry for the long post guys!
my phone is at 33% at 8:08
Will let you know how I get on. I have it on charge now
I think mine takes around 3 hours from empty using samsungs supplied charger but I will try to do a test for a more accurate time. How does this compare to the iphone?
Yep mine takes about 3 hours as well from empty to about 90% using the wall charger, then it goes on trickle charge the rest of the way. This is on standby as well.
Yepp takpes about 3 hours to get fully charged. however, i've been using the phone as a wifi hotspot all the time and yes, it increases charging time but it doesn't really matter when it takes so long anyways

It takes almost 3.5-4 hours to charge it with stock charger from empty to full.
It takes a bit more than 5 hours to charge from empty full using USB charging in my laptop.
Found out the hard way:
Charging with original EU charger AND heavy use (downloading, Wifi tethering, map ops etc.) MADE it drain faster than charging.
Two nights before left it during night with orig. charger and made it in 8 hrs only to 84% while on.
With Hama 0,8 amps charger full in 2hrs from empty and stays full even with heavy work.
NO heat issue though !
Methinks the charger is crap

doesn't really matter which charger. got the nokia 1,2A charger and it takes nearly 3 hours as well to fully charge the battery.
I use my ipad charger with it and its definitely more like 2 hours not 3
My car usb adapter is 1amp and has no problem keeping it fully charged while using sygic satnav

Is this an ebay job to get one of these?
Any idea what the max amps the phone can take? I've been looking around, seen chargers up to 2 amps, but don't want to ruin the phone...
Edit: Sorry, posted too soon. Just saw this thread, and the battery has is rated at 1000mA, so ya, don't use a 2 amp charger

if you look thru the battery driver source code, samsung capped the charging at 650 mA it seems. not sure why, other android phones use the full 1 amp.
so samsung either saw a heat problem and lowered it, or that's just the way they do their phones charging. who knows.

Wow, ok. As someone who uses 3G a lot when our internet connection goes down (all too often), I hope the charge will end up keeping up with the battery drain. Otherwise I'll be tempted to change that source and probably end up frying my phone (if it ever gets in stock :|)
Thanks for the info
Guys my SGS2 is taking around 4+ hrs to charge from around 5% left. Is this normal.?
Yep takes 4 hours here too

What's the rated output on the wall charger?
I think this is by design as the phone already gets extremely hot when pushing the CPU (gaming etc).
I believe this can eventually be changed with custom rom/kernel.

5v @ 0.7A, by the looks of it this is normal.
thanks for responce peps. Never had a phone that took so long to charge.! Normally about an hour which is why i thought i may have had a problem with the handset.!
S2 stock Optus KE2 with it remained turned on with wifi, email checking etc using Energizer XP8000 battery as power source for charge went from 24% reminaing to 100% charged in ~2hrs. S2 internally seems to limit it to <700mah charge rate.
Find a Iphone4 charger or something similar it will give you 5v @ 1.0A, charges quite a bit faster, I use that at work then the slow .7 at home.
my XP8000 charges at 1000mah but S2 will limit it to 700mah
I think you could charge the battery alone in a dock. There it should load with the full 5V and 1ah..

Ah forgot about that. But it's kind of pain removing that battery cover.

Anywhere you can back this up? I seem to have faster results using a 1.0 vs .7, showing that it is getting more power.
It's been mentioned a few times across various forums. But i'm just going by my experience.
It also takes me around 4 hours to fully charge from below 5% battery. However, if I turn the phone off whilst it charges, goes slightly quicker. Obviously.
Hi,
I think the recharging time is quiet normal for such a phone (and battery).
I had to charge the battery of a friend's phone these days with my notebook.
And it took some hours from 30%. (HTC DHD)
About the same for my SGSII.
I think thats normal.
what would we do without electricity?
Dead phone that is fully discharged battery phone off stock charger to 100%
sub 3 hours .
jje
Changed handset yesterday. today charged new phone from 5% and it took 3hrs 4mins. So it looks like i may have had either a dodgy charger or batt.
I am charging with supplied charger(5V / 0.7A) ...
During the charging I turn off my phone but the charging time is still 3-4h -.-
Mine has been taking forever lately, just took over 5 hrs to gov from 25 to 100%...WTF! My Hero with the 1500mah battery would charge from 10% to 100% in 1.75-2 hours this thing has a roughly 17% bigger battery but takes 3 times as long now to charge, it didn't at first when i got it but it is now no matter which of my 3 HTC wall chargers or my car charger I use. I don't know if the battery is going bad or what. Is there an app for displaying charging amps...I thought I read that there was but i can't find one?

I use Current widget (free in market).
Cool Thanks, wonder if that shows amps comming in to phone or just +amps over what the phone is useing...by the fluctuations I would say the latter. Works though.
That Current Widget worked great, when unplugged it shows draw and when plugged in it shows gain rate. Note for everybody, just because it sais its a High Speed 2.0 cable doesn't mean it meets the amp draw requirements. 2 of my skinny cable are only capable of transfering 500mah when the HTC cable and 1 of my thick ones transfer a full amp of juice. Good to know all my chargers work just have to get a thick-high quality 6ft cable now.
Just wanted to see everyones charging times, this is from about empty to 100% or when the led turns green. Just choose the closest one that suits you.
Mine gets it done in 2 1/2 hrs.
Didn't mean to thank you.
It takes like 2.5 hours also thru wall charger.
Sent from my Evo 3D using Tapatalk 2.0
Used to take many (5-6) hours when doing it via USB, but the fastcharge patch in some of the kernels has changed that to almost wall-speed (2-3 hours) charging.
depending on what I have running, I have charged from dead in just over an hour. If you need a quick juice-up turn turn off Data/Wifi/BT/GPS and you can get a good 60-70 in just over half an hour. You won't miss much world action in that time......heck, it's barely 2 rounds of COD.
2 1/2 hours with wall charger.
same here 2 1/2 hours with wall charger
A lot less with an HTC Charger
As discussed in the downgrade from 1.5 hboot thread, the "official" HTC chargers output more power than a lot of the generic chargers so if you use the wall charger that came with the device it should charge quicker
1 1/2 hrs - 2 usually
but the rom im using only gives 5 hours of heavy use :\
I joke I joke, 5hrs of 4g connection is not bad, not great but not bad.
currently using Romeos3d Iceslated II with stock kernel I believe. the ported Ics has some battery drain issues when your actually using the device
Like 6 hours, I use the battery wall charger and pop a new battery in. So no downtime and always have my phone with me.
I have no idea. I plug it in when I go to sleep and it is charged when I wake up.
mine took 4 horus to fully charge.. any 3rd party battery that you can recommend?
It takes me 2.75 hours to charge from 1%. The HTC wall charger works best since it puts out 1A at 5V. You can buy this OEM HTC charger w/cable really cheap on Amazon. I got the one with the OEM HTC cable. I have one in my computer room, living room, and travel bag. It takes me 4-5 hours using my Sprint car charger. I need to look for an 1A+ car charger.
it usually takes 3 hours if I activate the mobile data connection with auto-sync enabled, if I don't, it only needs 2,5 hours to get fully charged, but I usually prefer the first one.
For those of you who have the wireless charger. Do you notice a significant battery life shortage when you charge the phone using the wireless charger? Ever since I use the wireless charger, the battery life doesn't seem to last as long as charging the phone using the traditional route.

I just got mines today from AT&T. Will keep an eye on how it last and let ya know.
I've been using the charging stand for a week or so and haven't noticed any difference.
I've been using mine for over a week, and I've noticed the phone charges faster than with the USB cable (to the wall outlet), and the battery charge seems to last just as long... maybe you have a bad battery?
also, I found this on wikipedia about the qi standard: "Regulation of the output voltage is provided by a digital control loop where the power receiver [phone] communicates with the power transmitter[charger] and requests more or less power. "
I have a thin plastic case. Do I need to take the case of to charge the phone? want to know before I buy
I've actually seen a slight improvement when using the charging plate. Through my typical usage during the day (7 a.m. through 6 p.m.) I was coming home with 50% battery. Now, I'm coming home with about 70%.
Don't be too impressed though. I don't use push on anything at all, and I don't use any kind of social media.
I'm betting you have a defective unit. My first 920 did exactly this. I would set in on the plate, take note of the battery percentage, take a 10 minute shower, come back, and the percentage jumped from 88% to 100%. There's no way it could charge that fast. Not even the USB cable can charge it that quickly and that charges at a higher amperage and voltage than the plate. Sometimes I saw it jumping from 95% to 100% in a matter of seconds. So I called AT&T and after countless hours of talking with employees that knew nothing, I finally was put on to someone who helped me get the phone exchanged. My new 920 does not have this problem and a full charge on the plate lasts just as long as on the plug. My first 920 barely made it 8 hours with normal use (texting mostly). My new 920 makes it past my 8 hour shift with 75% to spare.
Had to replace mine. White light on the plate came on but no response on phone. Wireless charging coil was faulty... Inductive charging failed and that sucks... It wasn't a bad flaw but when I spend 450 I want a functioning device. Now, I have it.
