DT-900 charging problem - Nokia Lumia 920

For those of you who have the wireless charger. Do you notice a significant battery life shortage when you charge the phone using the wireless charger? Ever since I use the wireless charger, the battery life doesn't seem to last as long as charging the phone using the traditional route.

I just got mines today from AT&T. Will keep an eye on how it last and let ya know.

I've been using the charging stand for a week or so and haven't noticed any difference.

I've been using mine for over a week, and I've noticed the phone charges faster than with the USB cable (to the wall outlet), and the battery charge seems to last just as long... maybe you have a bad battery?
also, I found this on wikipedia about the qi standard: "Regulation of the output voltage is provided by a digital control loop where the power receiver [phone] communicates with the power transmitter[charger] and requests more or less power. "

I have a thin plastic case. Do I need to take the case of to charge the phone? want to know before I buy

I've actually seen a slight improvement when using the charging plate. Through my typical usage during the day (7 a.m. through 6 p.m.) I was coming home with 50% battery. Now, I'm coming home with about 70%.
Don't be too impressed though. I don't use push on anything at all, and I don't use any kind of social media.

I'm betting you have a defective unit. My first 920 did exactly this. I would set in on the plate, take note of the battery percentage, take a 10 minute shower, come back, and the percentage jumped from 88% to 100%. There's no way it could charge that fast. Not even the USB cable can charge it that quickly and that charges at a higher amperage and voltage than the plate. Sometimes I saw it jumping from 95% to 100% in a matter of seconds. So I called AT&T and after countless hours of talking with employees that knew nothing, I finally was put on to someone who helped me get the phone exchanged. My new 920 does not have this problem and a full charge on the plate lasts just as long as on the plug. My first 920 barely made it 8 hours with normal use (texting mostly). My new 920 makes it past my 8 hour shift with 75% to spare.

Had to replace mine. White light on the plate came on but no response on phone. Wireless charging coil was faulty... Inductive charging failed and that sucks... It wasn't a bad flaw but when I spend 450 I want a functioning device. Now, I have it.

Hmmm, I will have to call AT&T for the warranty exchange. Thanks

Can someone please test the GS2 charge time?

Hi guys
I'm an iphone 3gs owner at the mo but my contract is up in a week and after doing A LOT of research over the past 3 weeks, i was pretty much decided that the GS2 was gonna be my next phone.
Then i foolishly visited the xda forums! lol (in fairness, it probably still will be my next phone).
But seriously though, setting aside the various issues some people are clearly having (reboots, battery drain, etc) what shocked me the most was hearing about the low-powered charging mechanism (apologies if i've gotten this slightly wrong).
I've heard that it only charges at ~650mah, but that the phone can easily surpass this under load (~850mah?), meaning that you could be charging the phone at the same time as using it, only to find the battery going DOWN. Can someone confirm if this is true? If it is, then i'm gobsmacked that Samsung could make such a c0ck-up. Imagine if you're using the GPS (a real battery hog) while driving (and plugged-in to the ciggy lighter) only to find that the battery dies before you get to your destination! lol. I've heard about the heat this puppy produces, i wonder did they limit the juice to stop it from burning a hole through the floor
Even though i'm bored to t1ts with my iphone (and i hate apple), what i love about it is that when i don't actually use the phone for extended periods of the day (which is quite often, due to work) it still retains it's charge really well (i get insanely good battery life). I would be really annoyed if i found the GS2 battery dropping any more than, say, 30% over the course of a busy working day (say 9am to 7pm) with virtually no use.
So, to finally get to my point! My iphone charges REALLY fast. I'm worried that it will take a stupidly long time to fully charge the GS2. Can some kind person please do an experiment for me, and see how long it takes theirs to fully charge (from fully dead to 100%) with the screen off and the phone not doing anything major in the background?
Also, it would be good to know how this compares to the GS2's competitors.
Sorry for the long post guys!
my phone is at 33% at 8:08
Will let you know how I get on. I have it on charge now
I think mine takes around 3 hours from empty using samsungs supplied charger but I will try to do a test for a more accurate time. How does this compare to the iphone?
Yep mine takes about 3 hours as well from empty to about 90% using the wall charger, then it goes on trickle charge the rest of the way. This is on standby as well.
Yepp takpes about 3 hours to get fully charged. however, i've been using the phone as a wifi hotspot all the time and yes, it increases charging time but it doesn't really matter when it takes so long anyways

65% at 9am
It takes almost 3.5-4 hours to charge it with stock charger from empty to full.
It takes a bit more than 5 hours to charge from empty full using USB charging in my laptop.
Found out the hard way:
Charging with original EU charger AND heavy use (downloading, Wifi tethering, map ops etc.) MADE it drain faster than charging.
Two nights before left it during night with orig. charger and made it in 8 hrs only to 84% while on.
With Hama 0,8 amps charger full in 2hrs from empty and stays full even with heavy work.
NO heat issue though !
Methinks the charger is crap

doesn't really matter which charger. got the nokia 1,2A charger and it takes nearly 3 hours as well to fully charge the battery.
I use my ipad charger with it and its definitely more like 2 hours not 3
My car usb adapter is 1amp and has no problem keeping it fully charged while using sygic satnav

Is this an ebay job to get one of these?
Any idea what the max amps the phone can take? I've been looking around, seen chargers up to 2 amps, but don't want to ruin the phone...
Edit: Sorry, posted too soon. Just saw this thread, and the battery has is rated at 1000mA, so ya, don't use a 2 amp charger

if you look thru the battery driver source code, samsung capped the charging at 650 mA it seems. not sure why, other android phones use the full 1 amp.
so samsung either saw a heat problem and lowered it, or that's just the way they do their phones charging. who knows.

Wow, ok. As someone who uses 3G a lot when our internet connection goes down (all too often), I hope the charge will end up keeping up with the battery drain. Otherwise I'll be tempted to change that source and probably end up frying my phone (if it ever gets in stock :|)
Thanks for the info

Just got the Anker 1900mAH batteries, I hope its better than GTMax's junk batteries..

http://www.amazon.com/Anker-x1900mA...J5Q4/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1320242216&sr=8-6
I just got these from Amazon and the charger that it came with is JUNK!
It has sliding pins and no instructions on how to charge the batteries.
I used the samsung battery charger to charge it, when the charger saids its charged, I put in the 1st battery and saw that it was only 89% on the phone. I hope this means that the samsung battery charger will only charge up to 1650mAh and there is extra juice on these Ankers.
I will continue to test it out and will update.
I bought these too. To use the charger, slide the pins to the right so that they line up with the copper contacts labeled + and -. I think when you have the contacts on the top right, it is the right most, and then second from the left. Slide the bottom of the charter down and stick the battery in with the pine touching those 2 contacts.
Now, that being said, the light indicated on my charger stopped working after 2 days, so I just leave them in overnight. Also, you can't charge them in the att phone or you get a boot loop. But the batteries themselves seem to last.

How is these batteries working out for you?
It seems WAY too complicated to use the charger which came with it. Does it matter if the left pin is connected to + or - as I can easily flip the battery around.
I am now charging it with the charger which I got with the GTMax batteries, its slow (Output 4.2V 350mA), but it seems to be charging it to 100% instead of the battery charger from Samsung. (Output: 4.2V 400mA 600mA) (89% for some reason, I have not tried again)
I am getting decent battery life out of it as of now, but have not try it enough for a good review. The product does say that the battery will perform better after 4 charges. Since I have 2 of these, they are lasting around 30 hours each,. its taking me time to cycle through it. Is it reallt 1900mA which should last around 15% better than the OEMs.
I will post my findings when I have tested this enough.
I dont know the rest of you, but I like not charging with the phone charger at all. Its takes seconds to pop in a new battery and I am good for another 20-30hours depeding of the battery. No time off for my phone Also, I dont want to change the backing for extending battery which diminished the thin aspects of this phone. (I just carry a spare and it will for SURE last at least 24 with heavy use; greater than 6 hours of screen time if not more)

It does matter. The right hand pin (when you are looking at the front of the charger) is +.
When you hold the Anker battery face forwards and upright, you can see the +- markings on the battery. This is the direction to use in the charger. I have not yet bought (or seen) the adapter from Seidio which is supposed to their charger work for this sized battery.
I was originally getting 12 hours until 0% battery left. After I shut down all the background syncs, wirless, gps, bluetooth..etc, and installed juiceDefender, I was able to get to about 20 hours with the OEMs. That means, 20hrs with minimal use and it would be dead/unusable at that point.
Then I follow the rooting and de-bloating the i777 and it gets my phone up to 30 hours until dead with normal use. This is around 3 hours of screen time. It would be great if I can ge to about 40 hours..
After a week of use, these batteries seems to last. I think they are as good as the OEMs or maybe 5-10% better. I have also notice that the weight on these ankers are a bit heavier too. Not sure if that means it contains more juice or not.
I have JUNKed the charger that came with it, as its just not user friendly. I been using the GTMax wall charger and its been fine. It take like 6-8 hours to completely charge. (I have not tried again with the Samsung wall charger as the 1st time only charges it up to 89%)
If you are like me, who don't like to chain the phone to the wall and prefer to swap out batteries, then these are good. I hope it there are a lot of cycles life with them.
I travel a lot and with every swap, I get abother 30 hours of moderate use (3 hours of screen time). Under heavy use, I get about 20 hours (4+ hours on wifi)

[Q] Prime - First time charge

Got my second Prime, after having to send back the first one. But this time the charger was defective. I have been able to charge it a bit by using the USB on the PC, so-called trickle charge, but I did not charge it properly before first time use (the eight hours recommended). The tablet was slightly used, slightly charged, slightly used and charged to exactly 100% through computer's USB. The dock won't trickle charge at all and has now 0% power.
I can send in the charger back and receive a new, but this will take one to two weeks. So I won't be able to charge the dock at all in a couple of weeks and it will be stored with 0 % battery power. The tablet would have to do with the trickle charge.
I then wonder how damaging this could be the battery? I do not want to take any chances and end up with a crappy battery after a year or two. I have read a lot on the internet, but people are very inconsistent about whether a Li-ion battery will be damaged without proper first time charging or not, and lying around for a couple of weeks with zero battery power.
Thanks in advance!

Before sending the charger in try putting in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Get as much air out of the bag as possible. It could be the chargers safety has been tripped and its stuck.
they recommended the battery be fully charged up when first recieced. they say 8hrs. but that's way too long. only takes about 2 hrs. for battery to fully charge through its power plug. once fully charged battery will need To go through a few complete cycles(from 100% to 0% or close) before the battery is properly calibrated and optimized.
I wouldn't think trickle charging the prime will hurt anything as long as you still going through cycles. if you only can trickle charge right now, might be best not to let prime go completely dead. just charge once its low or whenever not in use. how long did it take to charge battery completely up through trickle charge?
As far as I know trickle charge is even better for Lithium batteries, and provides longer battery times and less wear-and-tear on the battery.
Tried the freezer. It would charge for a couple of minutes, then stop again. But it gets pretty hot, so I would thinks it's overheating.
Don't know how long the trickle charge takes. I charged it for maybe four hours from 60 %, but don't know when the charge was complete.
And as I said, I used the prime for a bit, turning it on and off, tryinging to get the charging to work. I first charged it completely after 2 days. And the dock got dischared at once since connected it to the tablet at once, and left it for 8 hours because I thought it was charging. Haven't been able to charge the dock since...
Trickle charging is actually better for your devices than charging with a rapid charger. It both prolongs the overall life of the battery and can lead to "deeper" charging where the batter actually ends up with a slightly higher stored charge which would give you slightly longer battery life.
As for the charger, if you live near an OfficeDepot they might have some in-store so you can pick up a replacement for around $30. You can also get them online from the OfficeDepot website: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/768723/ASUS-Power-Adapter-For-Eee-Pad/
Even if you get your charger back from RMA, it is good to have a spare charger lying around!

[Review] A review of some accessories

Just gonna review some of the accessories I have used and what i think about 'em
First up is the 3500mAH extended battery by HHI
This battery came in at a cost of $9.99 with free Shipping! It showed up with an 80% charge which is in the acceptable range of where they like to sit. The battery performs just as one would expect it too. I am currently running MeanRom, and can easily get 16-20 hours of use with some really heavy gaming. However I recently went on a vacation and wanted to run the battery through a couple different variations of "discharging". So with the phone in Airplane mode(no radios connected) and very little use i easily can get a week out of the phone without charging. Again this is without any radios on, not connecting to anything. The stock battery cant touch these numbers. i would be lucky to get a full day out of the stock battery with no gaming and normal use.I didn't do a sticker pull to run the numbers. So I'm taking HHI's word on the 3500mAH being just that.
To conclude on this battery the $10 investment turned out to be a good choice, although it might not be a seidio or something it does more than i expected it to do. I will continue to use this battery till I get rid of the phone. The battery can be found here.
To continue on the batteries,
I also bought some of the Galilio "2000mAH" batteries, I got 3 of them with a wall charger for $13.99 on ebay, as reviewed by many others.
This is my experience with them. So they showed up in the mail and upon opening them i discovered one of the batteries look like it got dropped or skipped accross the cement, im not sure what happened, but who is gonna put a messed up battery in their phone.. So i really only got 2 batteries. I brought it up to the seller he offered me $3.00 back, it wasn't worth my time even dealing with that any further at this point. Anyways the batteries Are nice little backup batteries i take with me on trips. They make for easy backup batteries. The batteries have been suspected to be somewhere along the lines of 1000-1200mAH. I would have to agree, even with no testing with any type of tool, besides my phone. They last a most couple of hours. The wall charger that came with them actually surprised me. Everyone was reporting that it may overcharge your stock battery, which can cause some issues. This charger(as pictured below) will charge the Galilio batteries to 100% with no problems. I put my stock HTC battery into the wall charger and with repeated attempts the charger will not charge the battery past 85% even when i left it on the wall charger for 2 days. I do believe that the stock HtC charger that came with the phone gives the batteries a "better" charge, but the wall charger seems to not charge the batteries past a safe range as everyone seems to be reporting as a possible issue. My issue is it doesn't charge it well enough.
I've attached some pictures of the battery results and of the batteries.
Reserved for more... case reviews coming up next
i got the 3500 mAh from HHI. great battery, even better price.
Yea that battery is awesome!

Going to try this battery out. Thanks for the review.
The 85% is charge limit is what a cheap charger do,
The "charger" that come with the phone is simply a power supply, the charging circuit is actually "built in" to the phone. You can connect the OEM HTC charger/power supply into one of those cheap aftermarket dock that charge a 2nd battery and it will never charge the battery past 85% either.
To make it short and sweet
There's 2 stage of Li-ion charging
1) charge to 4.2v at constant current which is 85% when it first reach/near 4.2v
2) saturation charge, once the battery reach 4.2v, continue charging but at gradually reducing current until it reach about 3% of default charge current
Cheap charger have a simple/cheap circuit and cannot do stage 2 charging, where the charging circuit built into each phone would do stage 2 charging

Anyone had long charge times with their official huawei charger?

I was interested in seeing what my charge times were using the official charger and cable so using accubattery i checked the charge logs ranging from 10-40% to 100% and they were longer than what the guidelines stated. Phone did state that supercharging was active, had two thunderbolts on battery as well as the bubble animation (i wish this could stay on permanent )
When i bought the phone, charging from 20% to 100% took 1h 50m
and then in about a months time...
Charging from 10% to 100% took 2h 34m
Charging from 32% to 100% took 2h 11m
These were all with screen off, do not disturb turned on and wifi on. The charging time is not THAT big of a deal as i'm always charging it at night but i'd like to actually recieve the speeds that were promised. Using ampere i never saw the current surpassing 2000mah sub 10% (i don't expect it to supercharge as the battery is nearly getting to 100% in order to prolong the longevity of the battery) and they would fluctuate down to 600-700mah a lot of the time.
So i contacted huawei support and the advisor agreed that the charge times i told him were longer than they should be so i've sent my charger (along with the cable) for repair. It's currently at their repair centre so i've not had a diagnosis yet on what the problem is, it could be the phone having issues for all i know!
I wanted to know if anyone else has been keeping stats on their charge times and whether you are getting times similar to me or slower/faster, would be interested to hear!
Do you have the double lightning symbol? If not, turn off your charger for about a minute and try again?

Difficult to say if there's any hardware issues, the repair centre will find it if there is one though.
Your charging times do seem a little high but its also difficult to compare a new phone to one that's been in use for a while, as there will be more apps running and drawing power etc than on a clean phone. Over 90% charge the charging rate will drop as you said, but that's not the only thing to affect it, temperature has a big impact...hotter charges slower.
Measuring mAh on the phone is therefore only a guide and shouldn't be used to prove slow charging etc. (e.g. if I have my satnav app, bluetooth & mobile data all on, then even using my supercharger, the charging rate shown by the phone sometimes drops to under 400mAh and even into negative figures if the phone is hot)
0% to 100% should be about 90mins in perfect conditions, but I'd be surprised if anyone got regularly near that sort of timing.
Got my charger back 2 days ago and today i deliberatly ran my battery down to 9% to see how charging would go. For the first time since recieving my charger back i've gotten a steady 4000mah. 9% to 72% (+2400mah) took 55m which is much better than the 2hours+ it took last time to get a +2600mah charge before. So yeah, if you're noticing similar speeds, contact huawei and see if you can send it in!
Mine charges from 18% to 100% in just an hour and 10 minutes.
