Yes it will, if it's micro-usb it will charge. It won't destroy your phone, but it may not charge as fast. Don't worry about it.

Well, it will charge your phone if it's started.
But if device is off and you put 2000mAh (too much for it), battery indicator will show "?" and no charge.
So please don't say unless you try!

I ordered a spare batt and now when i try to put the original one back in the phone does not boot unless i plug the charger in first then it works as normal. So every time i take the batt out i have to plug it in to the wall before i can use it? Pretty much destroys the point in why i got a spare battery

Looks like your phone crashed or froze during a period so it couldn't read the battery statistics.
Stock 2.3.4 from south east england always used default charger, not installed any new apps for weeks now. Happend after a crash followed by automatic restart. Random.

Seems like your phone is completely dropping service which could be a service provider issue imo

I had this as well in the past. Happend multible times. Phone was @ like 56-60%, and after a reboot it was down to 20%. No logical reason why it was that way.
I dont think the battery is damaged, tho. Maybe an error in calculations?

Hard to tell. Every once in a great while things just go haywire. Same thing happens to your home computer if you don't restart it ever so often. Glad it fixed it for you.

It happened to me to. A simple reboot fixed it. I have absolutely no idea what has caused this or how to reproduce it.
I slept last night with 40 % battery and woke up to see 0 %. I was shocked. Please help. Is there something wrong with battery or some app is the reason of the problem ? Any help appreciated.

Did you charge your phone?
Let it charge up to 100%, as charging to full battery will "reset" it (somehow), i find it hard to explain
Anyway, it is not a serious matter
