Screen always on in developer mode keeps turning off - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I like my screen to always be on when I am charging the phone, mostly becuase I drive a lot and it sucks to have the screen go off when you are using google maps. I seem that I have to keep changing the "screen always on" in the developer mode section in settings. Has anyone else been able to make this change stick?

I definitely had that option checked when I set up my phone after flashing beans v3 but when I went to check just now it was not selected. I guess I have the issue too, apparently.
Update: I just restated my phone and the option is unchecked again. Definitely not sticking after reboot for some reason.

I use the app *My Settings Pro* to set the screen to never time out whenever I have the phone docked in my truck.
It stays on until I set the screen timeout to 30 seconds & put it in my pocket.

There is a free app in the market called "Screen On"
It allows you to set the screen to stay "Always On" by a per app basis
So for example you can only select Google Maps and the only time the screen will stay on is when you are in Google Maps, etc..

My phone has been doing this since day one after reboot stay awake is unchecked I just use tasker now.

It mildly annoying. I like the screen on when its charging so I can just glance for notifications without touching it, or in the car mount. I guess I can just use my NFC tags for now.

Just a suggestion, but you guys may want to be careful how long you keep your screen lit while charging.
I had my old G3 set to never go out while charging (it was on all night at times) and now it shows some nasty screen burn-in on any white screen (like the gmail background).
Any time it is on a white BG, you can clearly see a gost image of the home screen and the clock widget/icons etc.etc.

I have a similar issue. I set the checkbox to always on when connected via USB directly after setting up the phone for the first time and now it's always on is re-on when deselect it and go to the settings again afterwards.
Could it be some side effect / conflict caused by some powerful apps like "NFC task launcher" or something like that who can change settings as well as the settings dialogues?

[Q] Disable auto dim while charging/docked?

is this possible? and if so, how? i've tried a few apps from the market, but they didn't seem to work
Why? Do you hate your phone so much, you need a quick way to burn in the screen?
Actually, while it's in my car dock and I'm using google maps, or any music, it's hard to see the screen after it dims, esp. when driving with my convertible top down in the daytime.

Have you tried STAYAWAKE? Keeps screen on while plugged in to any source that charges.
the screen stays on already... but it still dims until i touch the screen again.
Use Tasker - it's more complicated than most apps, but it gives you tons more control over your phone too.
Just remember to both turn off auto-dim as well as turn your brightness up for the "plugged in" event or it won't work properly if you use tasker!
I have a setting for plugged and unplugged, as well as at home (in range of my wireless SSID) and away. So my GPS turns on when plugged in and away, but not plugged in at home. But my display is set up the way you want as well - and mine increases the display timeout too.

[Q] Screen Won't Stay On

I have all the right settings and everything but the damn screen won't stay on for more than 10 seconds.
Screen Timeout is set to never turn off.
Power Saver is off.
No automatic lock.
This is so annoying when i'm trying to read anything, i have to keep touching the damn screen.

Theres a nice app in the market called "keepscreen lite".
It's free and you can configure each app so that the screen wont turn off for them.

By default my device keeps the screen on 1 minute. I've never changed it. It does seem to work fairly well by default.
If you're using a custom ROM, there could be an issue with the ROM. Might be best to post in the developer's thread to alert them to the issue and also to see if others are experiencing.
The main setting I've relied on is under Settings-> Display -> Screen timeout . Mine is currently set as the stock default of 1 min.
Hope that helps!
I have the stock rom, and my screen timeout setting has been at 2 minutes since I first go it.
I'll check out that APP that you suggested j4n87. Thanks
LATER: Sweet, that app works great. I still wish that the system settings actually worked like they're supposed to.

[Q] Keep app running with screen off

Ok, I have a voice changer app that I want to use with the screen off. Ideally I'd start the app, turn on real-time processing, then turn the screen off. Currently, it only runs when the screen is on, as soon as I turn the screen off the app stops all voice processing. Screen needs to be off so the battery will last longer, and so the settings can't be changed accidentally (so touch has to be disabled as well).
I either need the app to keep running in the background, or have the screen turn off but not actually locked (I dunno the right term, but if the screen was off and didn't accept touch input, but the phone thought the screen was on...that'd be fine).
Closest I've found is to edit the AndroidManifest.xml file to set it persistent, then make it a system app. This will take me a while to figure out, and not even sure it'll work.
Is there some simple solution I'm overlooking? I've seen an app that turns off the screen with help from the proximity sensor...but I want the screen off whether it's in my pocket or lying on top of a table.
Edit: I tried some apps that use the proximity sensor to turn off the screen; as soon as the screen goes off, the voice changer app just stops. I have no idea what's triggering it (if the phone is actually entering a sleep state, or if the app is specifically watching for the screen to go off and suspends itself). Thought that might be a workaround, but nope.

Screen won't time out

After my phone is running for awhile the screen won't time out, a reboot will fix it but after some time the screen won't timeout again. Also if Quick glance is activated, while the issue is present, the screen will turn on, start to dim and then the lock screen will show and stay until I shut it down. Maybe an app is running in the background and keeping it from shutting down? This is when the phone is not charging so it's not the Stay awake setting. I've also turned various settings on and off as well as changing the screen timeout, which is now set to 15 secs, and the problem still persists.
Anyone with this issue?
I've seen some (Issue 37974) with the GS3 posting about the same issue but never saw a resolution.
Any help or insight would be appreciated.
I've noticed this but it usually was an app that kept it running.
From the Homescreen, try holding down the Home "Verzion" button for a few seconds. Click "Remove All" and then see if it times out. If that doesn't work, try clicking "Task Manager" instead and closing all Active Applications.
If either of these do work, then when you notice it again, be more selective in which apps you close until you find the offending app. I have a few Sound Engineering apps that use the microphone and one of them forces my screen to stay on. I'm assuming to access the mic hardware. It seems to run in the background even when I "close" the app.
I've done the remove all and nada but I'm adsuming it is and app too...
Thanks for the reply...
It must be Stay Awake in developer options that is causing this bug. As stated a reboot fixes the issue temporarily, after the reboot the Stay Awake option gets turned off on its own, If I turn it on again the issue appears again shortly after. So somehow the Stay Awake option must be getting messed up and keeping the screen on even when not charging.
My workaround is turn off Stay Awake and Use Tasker to keep the phone awake while charging. Not what I'd like, I'd prefer the system work correctly, but it works for now.
Thanks
first off are you using a different keyboard other then the Samsung one ?
i had this happen to me using Swift.
just reboot your device and you should be golden.
Dont know why the keyboard would do this to the phone but thats what it was and all i did was reboot and Timeout works fine...

Don't think the keyboard is a major issue with this. I've had this issue both when using swift and just the SS keyboard. I am more inclined to think like the other poster said that it has to deal with SmartStay. I haven't tried turning it off then rebooting, going to see if that works now. It sucks because toggling SmartStay is really useful, but i'm concerned with burn-in and especially with a battery that lasts 10hrs+, that could be an issue.

just my 2 cents. When i switched to swift from samsung key i just rebooted and it corrected the issue. Im sure theres a permanent fix but works as a temp one imo

Question Lockscreen is broken on my main profile

I've been documenting my struggles with my lock screen in another thread. But I just had a major breakthrough and didn't want this to get buried.
To recap, my lockscreen has been a buggy mess from day one. The fingerprint sensor barely works, the fingerprint icon randomly disappears, and the gray border that's supposed to appear around the fingerprint icon simply doesn't show up. The lockscreen doesn't light up when I pick up the phone either (it stays dimmed). Also, wallpapers don't show up on the lock screen, and the big ugly clock sometimes disappears or moves itself to the top-left.
I've tried just about everything to fix this. As a last-ditch effort, I added a new user profile only to find that the lockscreen works perfectly well for this new profile (but still not for my main one).
Here's my main profile with the unusable lockscreen:

And here's what it looks like when using the other profile:

So there's clearly some obscure bug that most people aren't experiencing here. I'd love to just figure it out so I can move on.
When I didn't have the "always on display" turned on, the phone was very consistant about turning on properly when I picked it up. I ran it this way for 3-4 days without any issues.
After reading some articles on the P6, I realized that it has an AOD and that it was turned off. So I turned the AOD on while leaving all the other settings set the same. At first, the finger print icon wouldn't appear consistantly, but that is because I had adjusted the animation scale settings in the Developer settings. Changing that back to stock fixed the issue with the finger print icon not showing up.
That beings said, I have experienced the same "unresponsive" screen many times over the last couple of days that I have had the AOD turned on. The screen stays dimmed (or even turned off if I pull the phone out of my pocket) and the finger print reader is inactive (even though the icon is displayed). The screen is suppose to turn on when I lift the phone up, but it doesn't always do it. When this happens, I have to either manually turn the screen on using the power button, or double tap the screen to wake it. This is clearly a bug in the system somewhere. I probably need to report it to Google, but hopefully it is fixed soon.
After spending way too long on this, I've determined that the bug occurs consistently with these specific settings (although it may also occur for similar ones):
Lock after screen timeout: 30 minutes (or anything high enough to prevent it from locking between tests)
Power button instantly locks: disabled
Lift to check phone: disabled
Tap to check phone: disabled
Always show time and info: enabled
Replication steps:
1) Enter the above settings
2) Press the Power button to go to the lockscreen
3) Set your phone down for a couple seconds
4) Pick your phone back up and try to use the fingerprint sensor
Result: The fingerprint sensor won't work the first time.
I think all the other issues I had were actually stemming from this one issue.
