Hi
I have a problem with my XP; suddenly my softkeys have become a lot less responsive. It's the menu key in particular; the back key is the most responsive (a slight tap will do), the home key is ok but you need to press a bit harder and with the whole thumb and not just the fingertip) while I have to repeatedly hit the menu key for it to work. I did go for a run with my phone in my hand, after which I wiped the phone with a damp tissue, so I don't know if that was the perspiration or the water or whatever that affected the softkeys. I am aware that I can get softkeys through rooting but if I can't solve this I want to send it back to the shop so I don't want to root just yet.
Its always good if u just slide ur finger a bit instead of just touching them on soft keys.....

Thanks for your reply but that doesn't work for me for the Menu key. It's even worse than before now
PS if it's any significance the menu key doesn't light up as brightly as the others.

Hi guys,
My power off button is somewhat messed up, its quite difficult to wake up the phone by pressing it. Is there any other way to turn on the screen without pressing the bloody button, it has driven my crazy lately.
Cheers,
Hi
If the button is really tired, can't you get the seller to change the phone?
Other ideas: in case it would be some software trouble: hard reset?
Use à cab like Mort button, Hbutton, AEbutton to wake up your screen from other command?
PS ShutXp is wat u need ,
set up AEbutton plus like this:
a key(like camera) double tap to to launch shutxp
same key single tap : close application
and tick "today icon" in shutxp it makes it operate smoother
so if u double tap it will come up and single ull be back from standby ... and ull have a nice close app button also
a few skins cuz the default ones are ugly here or here or search button

That sounds good, will try it tonight
Thanks mate
Got sometime playing around with AEButton, pretty complicated I would say (atleast to). It seems like the soft ware could only assign jobs for hardkey buttons, is there any chance to set up so that when the screen is turned off, double tapping it makes it wake up??
HI...i am brand new to the forum...got my Gtablet the other day....upgraded firmware...so far without installing another Rom....i like the device...I am just checking to see if the 4 buttons on the right side..IE....SEARCH HOME MENU and BACK....should ALWAYS respond...OR if each only will respond depending on what is currently on yr screen....The HOME button ALWAYS seems to bring me to the home screen...the other 3 seem to respond ( or not ) depending on what is screen at the time....they device seems to work fine and the 4 buttons do respond do respond depending on what is on the screen at the time so i am assuming that the buttons physically so work ok.....id appreciate anyone's input....thanks a lot.....
From the user manual (http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/GTUG010411/G Tablet User Guide Rev Final 01.04.11.htm#_Toc281858063)
Home and Menu do different things depending upon what is running at the time:
IMPORTANT BUTTONS
On the right side of the LCD Screen there are 4 buttons.
1. SEARCH – Pressing the search button from the Home screen will bring up the Google search web site.
2. HOME – Pressing the Home button takes you back to either the Home screen or the Dashboard depending on which screen you were last in.
3. MENU – Pressing the menu button brings up different options based on the application running at the time.
4. BACK – Pressing the back button will always take you back to the previous window displayed.

so then depending on what is on the screen....is it likely that the ...say ...BACK or MENU button would not do anything...depending on what is on the screen at the time.....do others find that? Just making sure the unit doesnt have a defect...Thx

I have definitely seen this with the menu button.. can you give us an example of an app your are in where it is not working? someone can double-check on their tab...
I'm thinking BACK should always work. Are you having a consistent problem with it not working? Could it be sluggishness of the tablet?
Thanks for the replies gang....i just talked to Viewsonic and they indeed said that depending on what u have on yr screen at the time, certain buttons may not cause the screen to change.....such as if i am on my Classic home page and hit the HOME or MENU button....nothing will happen....if i hit the SEARCH button...it will change screens....and then...after going to the search page if i hit the BACK button.,....it will return to the CLASSIC HOME PAGE.......that all makes sense?
Kinda... need moar coffee first ....
I have searched around and haven't seen anything about this yet...
I use swype primarily and occasionally have to hit the swype button (first one on the bottom row) to correct a word but I fat finger and hit the home button. This is a pain in the butt because when I use handcent in quick reply mode I lose everything that I write. My question is, is there a way to change the amount of time required to hit the home button before it actually goes home...or change the sensitivity maybe so I have to jam it?
Thanks guys
I have a nasty problem. driving me NUTS and now I figured it out (but not a solution)
I would be typing away on my note II and BAM bunch of too fast to see menu's and I am somewhere else or something else happens. SO annoying.
I FINALLY figured out WHY its happening
the edges of my palms (thumb joint on my hand) are "PRESSING" into the corner of the screen when I type randomly
so my left hand would touch the "menu" capacitive button (this is why I love hard buttons) and I tap the keys so fast that the menu appears and before I even notice it I had tapped the screen 2 or 3 more times taping random menu options etc..
or worse my right hand touch the back button and POOF on a different screen OR the keyboard goes away and I tap a "link" that was under where the keyboard was etc..
SO anyway to fix this? app hack mod to keep this from happening?
maybe make it so I have to multi tap those keys (IF the keyboard is on screen) within a certain time span for it to register?
so 2 or 3 rapid "taps" otherwise it ignores those 2 buttons being pressed (but only when the keyboard is open) ??
thanks!
Is there anyway I can have the navigation bar on all the time? Including fullscreen videos? I hate having to click back on the camera (and other apps) for the navbar to appear when I can just press home if the navbar was always on. Is there anyway to do this through Xposed orany other method?
The soft keys?
If you're talking about the soft keys then there are 2 ways for them to pop up on the screen.
1. Tap the screen (this only works on certain apps)
2. Swipe - if you're in landscape mode then swipe the right edge inwards the soft keys will appear.
If you're in Portrait then swipe up from the bottom edge and the soft keys will appear.
But if you're talking about the Navigation bar then you need to swipe Downward no matter if you're in Landscape or Portrait..

I know how to make them appear, I'm asking if there's a way to make them stay there all the time like physical keys. Off topic is there also a way to remove the delay response of holding the power button for the power options to appear?

Sorry I can't give you firm answers because my phone is with LG for repair, but I do recall seeing in settings options for when the buttons appear and disappear. It allowed you to set it on a per-app basis.
As for the delay response for the power button, your best bet would be to see if there is an Xposed plugin. To use Xposed you'll need to root the phone.
When I get my phone back I can give you more specifics, but LG has the worst warranty repair service and has yet to fix the issue after sending it to them four times.
You at JBLM? Thanks for your service!

Thanks for your reply  but I've looked at everything possibly related to power button delay or the navigation bar (soft keys) on Xposed before posting here and still nothing. I did find a screenshot delay remover in Xposed and works great. Finding the power button is not as important as the soft keys because I can just use Rom Toolbox's rebooter and power/reboot/recovery etc... The soft keys thing on the other hand I would like to have because I hate having to pull up for them to make them appear... Iv'e looked at the settings you mention for showing/not showing per app but every app is not listed, its just some of the apps on your phone (apps that I would like to have the soft keys always on are mostly video apps which are not listed on this settings.) I', almost used to it by now, I just rather have the keys always on or a phone with actual physical keys.
Yes I live in JBLM . I'm a dog handler in the Army.
