[Q] OTA update for the t328w - HTC Desire V

Hi all,
My Chinese t328w is requesting I update to 1.73.709.4. I am however on a custom rom:
Kernel version [email protected]#1PREEMPT
Baseband 1.06.34D.05_20.22.30.23U
Build No. 1.59.709.3 CL 68502 release-keys
Would it be beneficial to upgrade?
What are the benefits?
What would the downsides be (i.e. would I lose Google services etc)?
Would I still be able to change ROM’s with this upgrade?

You must go back to the stock RUU, and make the updates. After this operation you can install custom roms

Getting a Plain ROM

Hi and good day
I'd like to have a plain WWE ROM in my HTC Hero.
I bought a Hero from my local store (Malaysia) and the Hero is not branded. However, the ROM is slightly modified and the most obvious and obnoxious difference is the omission of Market.
The (Android) Market is replaced by SlideME SAM in my local, unbranded HTC Hero.
Now, initially I'd like to get the Market without flashing my Hero to another ROM. I did google for hints how to achieve this, no avail. The closest probably market-enabler.
So now I decided to flash my Hero to a plain WWE ROM. I have downloaded
1. update-hero-generic-2.73.405.5-signed.zip
2. update-hero-radio-63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18-signed.zip
3. flashrec-20090815.apk
4. cm-recovery-1.4.img
And my current pointer is theunlockr's How To: Root Your HTC Hero in One Click! at http://bit.ly/TVoUL.
My Hero comes with
Firmware version: 1.5
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel version: 2.6.27-8dd6deee [email protected])
Build number: 2.73.728.5 146733 CL#61267 release-keys
Software version: 1.0.0.A6288
And I would like to have some helpful advices to flash the current ROM to the plain WWE ROM, which was downloaded as update-hero-generic-2.73.405.5-signed.zip.
Thank you
Wait a minute.
Is update-hero-generic-2.73.405.5-signed itself a ROM, or just an update? Now I'm confused.
Am I able to use that update-hero-generic-2.73.405.5-signed and get myself a plain ROM, or I need to get the actual plain ROM somewhere then only I can install the update-hero-generic-2.73.405.5-signed?
In my understanding (it may not be comprehensive) you have the new rom just a different language version being malaysian hero.
If i understand correctly all your after is the official google/android market?
YEAH! I do exactly as theunlockr's tutorials, and I made it through.
I have my Android Market now, instead of that unwanted SAM.
I am required to manually key in all the details and settings for my HSDPA/3G/Internet settings which are easily obtainable from my telco
As for now, I have a fully functional Hero, with Market! Yeah.

Root purely for speed?

I'm thinking about rooting my hero, but not sure if it's worth it in my case. I'm happy with the level of access I have, so not interested in fiddling with the next layer of options etc that rooting allows.
The only reason I would do it is improved speed. Is it worth it from that point of view?
It's a HTC Hero from T-Mobile, although I bought it unlocked (using it with vodafone).
Some info:
Model number: T-Mobile G2 Touch
Firmware version: 1.5
(are any of the others relevant? software version? build number? baseband number? kernel version?)
Or would it be a better option to try to upgrade the software version through HTC or through T-Mobile?
Thanks.
Same here... I want to root my phone, is there a way to unroot it? I just want to uninstall nascar, etc. Don't wanna jack it up tho
you can unroot the phone, but you won't get any speed from rooting. if you want speed install modacos custom rom 2.9, it's android on crack
build number would be interesting to determine the difficulty to root your phone.

Actually yes when I said root I was thinking for the purposes of changing the rom.
My build number is 1.76.110.6 146733 CL#47214 release-keys
Are the following links applicable for rooting my device?

afaik with this build the easiest way is to just install the custom recovery image via fastboot, as it is still possible. this would be the method in the stickies over at modacos, which is pretty straigtforward. you can try it, either it works or it doesn't.
edit: the method described in the videos should work also. i think i had this rom on mine, i just installed the custom recovery and flashed mcr2.x.

When you say root do you mean so you can add other ROMs or do you mean so you can add/remove system files?
More information would be handy go to settings > about > software version and post
Firmware version, Baseband version, Kernel version, Build number, Software number and Browser version.

Firmware 1.5

There is my newbie guide in my sig or there is a "1 click method" being discussed in a topic in the dev forum which you might want to look at.

Well first of all your going to need a recovery ROM onto your hero to allow you to install custom ROMS. Some ROMS come with ROOT, Some Don't.
Because you have build 2.73.771.73 you will need to first install the flashrec application and then download a recovery ROM and use flashrec to load it onto your phone. The recovery ROM is the gateway to unlocking your device for maximum potential.

Thanks for your reply,I will try that.
Sorry, but if I do the above procedure using the MODACOPATCHEDRECOVERY 1.0 rom will this mean my hero is then rooted?
Thanks

I have no knowledge of this ROM, but what you can do is ask from where you got it from.

[Q] Could my HTC Flyer be flash back to Android 2.3 or install the google services?

I've got a HTC Flyer P512 wifi recently. It's retail in mainland of China. Unfortunately, the google service framework has been cut off from the firmware. So I can't use google's service at all, even the Google play app store.
So, could I flash it to a HongKong or Taiwan firmware? Better, if can be flash back to android 2.3. Or, is there a suitable version of google service framework could be installed on it?
Information:
CID of the Flyer is FHLCN702
HBoot version: 1.13.0015
Android version: 3.2.1
Baseband: 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.07_M
Build number: 3.70.1041.5 CL370977 release-keys
Kernel version: 2.6.35.10-g2040a15
Thank you.
What you can do is to unlock your boot loader and install a recovery. All you have to do then is to download a gapps zip and install it through the recovery. Its a lot easier than to try and downgrade from HC to GB or to try and swap your ruu for that of another region.

Thank you. I had flash the cwm recovery successfully, and install the gapps from the sdcard.
P.S. HC is no longer supported by lots of software. There is no Google chrome for HC. : (

[Q] Back to stock from 3.06.1700.10

So I accidentally used the x.xx.1700.x - Google Edition (WWE) Firmware from [GUIDE] [16.08.2013] Jelly Bean firmware collection for different Carriers ID (CID)
Is there anyway for me to get back to stock? Or do I have to wait for a 4.2.2 and 4.A.18.3263.15 baseband RUU?
I feel your pain...

I did the same thing. Oops. There is currently no way to roll back unless you were already S-OFF before you flashed. You can get back to stock in just about every way but the firmware by installing a stock ROM in recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384631
