ROM based off RUU better than OTA? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I saw that as soon as the OTA for Jellybean was released there were ROMs already released on here, but the RUU hasn't been released yet and then as soon as the RUU got released everyone's moving it onto that. Is there something that makes basing it off of the RUU better? Should I do a complete wipe before flashing then new RUU version before I use?

No, I thought I just saw that Chubbz released their new version and it said it was based off the RUU, but this is also a question

Just got off phone with HTC customer service and tech support and after talking for about 15 mins about issues/eta's etc, the rep told me that the ruu is not available to the public yet. It will take 1-2 months after the ota updates for the elte, one series to jelly bean before they post any ruu's for the phones, that way they can keep an eye on reports of issues and work them out before posting the ruu files. My suggestion is to call and let them know all the issues each of us is having with ota so they can start looking into it asap....eg: nav, features not working, signal, etc. Just my 2 cents.
Edit:and I'm also curious to hear what each person has found out about differences in the ota based and supposed leaked ruu based roms. Any issues go away/come up?

[Q] Ota then use RUU to downgrade hboot?

I was just wondering that if I did the OTA, someone said you could use the RUU in the development section. I was thinking that it couldn't downgrade the bootloader too though right? Since its been updated to a newer version?

nope it throws an error complaining about the bootloader version.
Yeah currently there isn't any way (that I know of) to downgrade the hboot from 1.40.
Well this blows...I have been noticing some bugs that are probably fixed with the OTAs...but I don't want to be screwed if the Devs figure out a way using the hboot 1.3. I know two others who have the OG Evo and the lady updated it in the store. They're screwed. Have been for 3 weeks already ssince the hboot ia secured and there's no exploit available. so I just don't want to take the chance that they did with updating the hboot.

It won't let me update to ICS.

So I'm trying to do the ics update and when I tell it to check for updates, it says "your phone is up to date, there are no updates availabe"
Why won't it give me the update? I tried restarting the phone. Also tried turning off WiFi and doing it on 4g.

Now or never
Update for "HTC Watch" but no ICS...it worked before dammit! I just didn't know I was rooted so it didn't work. Now I'm back to STOCK unrooted/locked and it won't get the OTA. Going to try manually...
just to add, I got the phone 9 days and its bone stock never rooted.

Keep checking for software updates, it'll tell you there is no update when the server load is high, after all, everyone is updating. If you're s-on just make sure you're on complete stock, if not flash the stock ruu via hboot, if you used the leaked ICS, well your chances are nada unless you s-off.
what is s-on and s-off?
Had to manually update from hboot. Got a little scared as the phone turned off when I was updating. Pressed the power button and it came back to hboot then it updated from there.
Security ON or Security OFF, if you're off, you can downgrade and flash the official ICS or upgrade to any of the leaked or official files, while on the other hand if you're on, well you have to do everything officially and there's no downgrading allowed.

Hey Dark, remember you said yesterday about flashing the stock recovery and relocking my BL via Hasoon? Will it all went as planned last night, dies that mean I'm back to stock, or will I still have to flash the GB RUU?

Everything is stock, so you should be clear. Just make sure your software version corresponds with one of tmo's stock software id's for GB.
You don't have to relock the BL by the way, you just have to be on stock recovery/software.

[Rant]It gets deleted because there are like 50 threads opened up every time a noob has an issue. This site is not www.noobsupportRus.com. It's a site for development. If u screw up your phone because you didn't read or know what you're doing, its not worthy of opening a new thread begging for help.
Now, if someone were to get the Amaze, they wouldn't know where to start because of all the clutter yapping about the same **** over and over.
If you're a noob unwilling to read, then leave ur phone stock or pay someone. Moderators have been asking for this over and over and over... It gets old.
Has anyone wondered where most of the regular senior members went lately? I've never seen any forum like the Amaze forum... Where noobs actually run people away from xda with stupidity. [/Rant]

this is odd to me. why wouldnt you flash the leak? do you think t-mobile magically cooks up ota's to send out to its subscribers? ota's come from the manufacturer (with the exception of GED's) and are sent to carriers for testing. the carrier then decides whether it will accept the ota or reject it. this is why you saw a revision in the build number from .1 to .3. .3 was accepted and pushed out to amaze owners, over-the-air.
the leak is just an earlier release of the final product. im not sure whats so hard to understand about that? you guys that were waiting, couldve been running the ota ics like 2 weeks ago...

You can now get the full HTC Rezound ICS update through your phone. But, how do you do it if you're running a custom version of ICS already?

If you s-off ruu back to the gb ota and go to settings and check for update
1.) pics or it didnt happen
2.) this is the wrong section. this should be in the general or QA because you asked a question. the development section is for rom development.
3.) if you saw this on htc website, it still hasnt dropped

You can not... you need to wait for a zip or RUU to be able to load over a custom rom. If it is true that ICS has been released officially you can convert back to stock easy if you are S-Off and then pull down the update.

The Rezound's update was definitely supposed to drop with the DROID Razr, and that update has come out. So I though, since it was supposed to be released simultaneously, it was out. Sorry guys, it'll be out very soon though, probably within the next week or so

OFFICIAL 3.14.605.10 710RD Available now

Just saw it on the HTC Support website.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-rezound-verizon/software-updates
It appears it has finally arrived (dated 6.20.2012 on the site).
3.14.605.10 710RD; Baseband Version:1.22.10.0421r, 1.22.10.0424r
Please somebody let me know when the RUU is available! I did the 3.14.605.5 update and can't get an OTA. Don't want to s-off, unless it get to the point where I have to.

not arrived. HTC is just announcing that it is ready as they did about a week ago. I think they are doing it to send a message that they are waiting on Verizon.
Ah, HTC pulling the strings again... I checked the site and it was definitely updated since last night. Still, means it's closer to reality.

I find it funny that this document was last revised in May. Meaning, they've probably been ready for a while: http://dl3.htc.com/htc_na/user_guides/htc_rezound_whatsdifferentandnew_3.14.605.5710RD.pdf

If they release ICS they have to release source. Which means AOSP development speeds up double quick.

Correction - they have to release eventually (yes, it is supposed to be immediate, but it never has been with HTC; unless you are willing to bring down a lawsuit right quick, it probably won't change either).

Since it's AT&T, I doubt there will be a flashable RUU. I tried the T-Mobile, no luck.
Quit posting there's no ruu. There is one. It's for an unreleased version. 12 vs. 10
