im just curious, but if i add them up right, there is 7 radios in the phone right?
wimax, cdma, wcdma, gsm, wifi, bluetooth, and FM.
geeze... and to think i thought my old nokia was amazing when i could change the exterior covers! lol
I was at the sprint store today polking around, and i must say after picking up several other phones, Samsungs, HTCs i realized the weight difference in the photon. The EVO3d is a brick of a phone, but i do like the metal frame it has. i had the evo 4g but this photon feels lite for all the internal goodies shes packin.
the lady at sprint even held my phone for a second when i asked a question about it, and she said "oh wow thats lite" and i thought to myself "dont you work here and have photons in stock?"
but anyways, i know the weights are very close, its not like its several OZ more or less, but just a hair and i can def feel the difference.
just curious what other owners thoughts about the size and weight. Im personally impressed.
Very impressed with my photon coming from an evo. Really like the screen and the overall snappiness of the phone. Still waiting to see the gs2 variant but I am quickly becoming a huge fan

I love my MoPho!!! I had just switched from Verizon to Sprint, after finding a loophole in my contract, and wanting a 4G phone, but... I had a Motorola Droid X, (rooted and all...), and I switched to Sprint, and got the Evo.
[I am not an HTC, nor EVO hater, you may soon understand]
I could not stand the Evo, because I am an app junkie, and the Evo had poor internal memory, (comming from about an 8 GB device, to less than one gb...), not fun, and yes I did use Apps2SD. The Evo could not hold my apps! I had to return it, and wait for something better. (I still cannot believe that I didn't do my homework on the Evo, ---besides the internal storage, it's a great phone.)
I purchased the phone with the latest update from The Shack, (RadioShack), for $30, (as I had just missed the forth of July sale). I could not root it, because of the update, and the phone was not able to be downgraded, and I said to myself, "This phone is stylish, nice, and I love the features, but I am an app junkie, I am annoyed by an Android device that isn't rooted, and I have 30 days to return this", (along with what I added up to be $50 of accessories - dock, cases, Otterbox Defender, etc....) I am happy I got them from eBay and Amazon, because unless they were on a RadioShack super clearance, I won't save much, even with the 25% off accessories with a new Sprint phone deal.
So, I sucked it up, took out my 16GB SD card that I had used for my Droid X, put the original and returned it.
I am glad I canceled the Sprint account, don't worry, I was returning to the Now Network!
About ten to fifteen days later, I heard about the Photon, and I was super excited!!!
Here I am... I get great Sprint WiMax reception, and I can't wait for Sprint 4G LTE, and I am sad because I can't get a straight answer if our MoPho's are LTE capable. Well, sorry for the book I just wrote... LOL.
Now I love this!!!

Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone who has received a Replacement from Asurion knows whether they received a New or Refurbished Photon? Also, with mine being lost, did they include a SIM Card? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
J
Got mine about 4 months ago and it was new as far as i could tell, and it came with a new Sim

I got mine in October. #1. Photon was not originally on the list. So I got away a little cheaper than $100.00! #2. From my EVO days, when Sprint replaces a phone look under battery. If it has yellow sticker with circle and 'R' in the middle, its a referb!
I argued out and got brand new phone, but I assume each case is different?
Hope it helps.....

Will Asurion replace a phone that is lost or stolen? What does Asurion consider comparable to the Photon?

To your first question, yes they will replace a phone that is lost or stolen for $100.00 deductible.
Lastly, and Photon is still being actively sold and is on amazonwireless for $0.01, you get another Photon. You do not get to Pick-&-choose. Your insured for Photon, not shopping spree! Now if Photon was off the market and not available............
I just had a replacement sent to me from sprint, I am in Kuwait the technician on the phone originally told me to go to my local sprint store, I asked where in the dessert there is a sprint store... anyway, I got a refurb photon as an advanced replacement. Not really an answer to your question but it is something...
Hello,
I got the Replacement and it is a Refurbished Device. No SIM Card even. Pretty weak considering it was a Lost Phone Claim. I happened to have an extra SIM Card so it was not that big of a deal.
As for the Refurbishment, it looks like a brand new phone. I saw the sticker in the Battery Bay which I took off. I am eligible for an Upgrade May 18th and will most likely sell it along with the HD Dock, Bluetooth Keyboard, and Mouse. Hopefully, Motorola will have a RAZR like LTE Model for Sprint. However, this is highly unlikely. I honestly do not know what I am going to do next as I have until December to use the last of the Premier Gold Annual Upgrades and definitely want to get an LTE Phone and hopefully not an iPhone (if the 5 is LTE)
Cheers,
JJ
So right now I have the G2X. I was going to upgrade to the EVO 4G LTE but my friends on here are telling me SGIII is the place to go. Im with T-Mobile now and my contract is expiring soon. I was wondering if I should stay with them and get the upgrade to SGIII or go to another carrier to get the SGIII since in most cases depending which one a specific carrier might have better specs then other carries and I am not sure if this is one of them but figure I ask. Help me make my decision.
Is the phone any good ? I'm coming from an Atrix 4G and was wondering if the photon worth buying today..
Can get it cheap.
ICS coming any soon ?
One of my friends has Atrix 4G and I feel that Photon 4G is way too ahead in terms of development, roms etc. I think Photon is very very good phone. My GF does'nt likes her iPhone 4 when she sees my Photon lol and wants to exchange. But I get saved because she has micro sim lol!!!
If you are coming from Atrix, I don't think, Photon is worth buying. Just bigger screen and maybe some small improvements. But nothing new in terms of speed or roms.
getting the xperia sola tomorrow
Atrix development is a bit more evolved as they have had more time to work out the bugs. The only advantage the Photon really has is CDMA & GSM support. If none of these things matter the only reason to switch would be the cheaper plans Sprint has.

I'm not on sprint I live in Israel and I'm using Cellcom.co.il lol
Thanks though !
I find the Sola to be better then the Atrix due to it's GPU and CPU which use less battery and give awesome preformance
plus a sweet 3.7" display and 9.9mm thick...

The Photon is a nice device, well build and that. But the bootloader being locked and the NO SUPPORT from MOTOROLA, is not worth buying it, also the battery should last longer.
Honestly get something better if you can, like a samsung.
Good Luck
When I bought my photon, I originally planned to buy one atrix 4g but they had available and buy it by the characteristics almost identical to the Atrix 4G, the problem is that almost no roms or both development and for the Atrix 4G, in conclusion to my not worth buying, if anything buy a atrix 4g.
For example, something simple, no cifs.ko module for photon and what I had to do reading and reading until I found the way to do it.
Just a question i thought someone on here may know the answer to.
Does anyone have any information or anything that hints at the fact of the RAZR Maxx HD coming to the UK?
I already have a RAZR but ive always wanted a RAZR Maxx, and now the addition of this phone to the US market has got me very excited and hoping it will make its way to the UK, even though they seem to be changing the specs of phone over here (UK) compared to over there. (US)

I certainly hope so - the RAZR i, which is a modified RAZR M (as opposed to HD) really isn't very interesting at all. Since the RAZR HD uses the MSM8960 SoC it has more or less global support for LTE as well, so getting it over here shouldn't be much a of problem. I'm guessing they have a deal with the US carrier to keep it exclusive for some time.
I hope so too, I mean I was looking at getting the RAZR i but then when I found out its only a single core (admittedly at 2.0 Ghz) and the same screen which the RAZR already had I was a bit disappointed with it, and switching on to T-Mobile now so I can get 4G I am hoping it does come out in the UK because I shouldn't take much to get it to work over here

Looks like it's available only at verizon but it has Gsm radios, have a look at GSMArena.com specifications. Need some confirmations though but specs wise it seems it has Gsm radios so it's possible to order it online and ship it

Doesnt the UK use 900/1800 gsm? if so then i may have to consider ordering this as soon as i can
I'm gonna pick one up next month ($650+tax for the device iirc).
I think the LTE won't work here (it's probably the 700/1700/2100 version, but with the latter two disabled), but after seeing EE's pricing and usage allowances, I have zero interest in an LTE service right now!!

I think exactly the same, i was under the impression that T-Mobile and Orange was going to be took over by EE then an upgrade for compatible devices to 4G LTE service. Thats why i switched to T-Mobile. Then when i found out you have to have a separate contract for like £30 a month for like 500mb I instantly thought forget that. Im pay £21 a month for unlimited minutes, texts and data, it'll do me for now
I actually asked Motorola this and they have no plans to bring the Razr Maxx HD to Europe (would post the link but I can't being a newbie.
Has anyone actually bought one from the States and can confirm it works in the UK?
Hey,
I never picked one up from the US in the end - I'm going to get an unbranded GSM version from Canada instead will report back and let you know how it works out!

I had a look at Motorola Mobility website in Canada, but couldn't find the Razr Maxx HD for sale

(sorry for posting the link weirdly, I'm a newbie and can't post full links just yet)
Ah sorry, not getting the Maxx, just the regular one!

Ah I spoke to a friend who has lived out in Canada and she recommended Bestbuy and TheSource but couldn't find the Maxx on either. I did find it on Expansys.Ca though for around £300.

I started to cry with joy when I read that, I would still like a normal one though, but at the same time for that price I'd rather get a Nexus 4 or something

Well I had a Nexus 4 on pre-order, but cancelled it.... too many issues being reported (only 16GB, dodgy reception, glass back randomly breaking, screens not calibrated properly). Also the more I looked at the LCD screen the worse it looked next AMOLED displays. And LG isn't really that baller... so that was that
Let's hope the Moto is more solid!

Damn that many problems, I haven't really heard that many, only one really widespread problem which was a buzzing coming from the headset speaker, damn, maybe I won't get that then
And I hope so after all the shipping and stuff, it is a real shame they aren't bringing it to Europe, would of had at least one guaranteed sale off me

I've just bought a Razr Maxx, because I simply couldn't get a Maxx HD or they were ridiculously expensive. I have a HTC One X, but the battery life is just so poor and I tend to travel a lot. The Razr i just isn't very impressive and I wanted the battery life. Ordered it from ValueBasket. Free delivery and it came all the way from Hong Kong! So were these phones just simply never released in the UK?
I had a HOX before but sold it due to the horrendous battery life. Tegra 3 + 1800mAh battery = failure.
Maxx HDs go for a reasonable amount on eBay, but obviously there's the risk of getting stung with import duty...
But would the Maxx HD work properly in the UK?
I am toying with the idea of bringing one back with me from the USA. Turns out you can buy one from Amazon sim-free, but it will still have the Verizon logo on it (which I don't really care about, as long as it works properly on O2 over here!)
Should work fine - it's SIM unlocked outside of America. There's a thread here called "Maxx HD in Europe" or something with loads of people reporting success with it.

Where did you get yours mate? Looking on Ebay right now (UK) someone is trying to sell one for £895!!!!! Jesus. Then £683 from the States and as you say, there's a BIG risk of being hit by import duty.
I've just looked on Amazon.com - now showing as $99 - but looks like you need to take a contract with Verizon
Why won't they release this phone in Europe!!!! I think would be a sleeper hit once everyone worked out the battery life is awesome....as I understand it.
Is Jellybean on the Razr Maxx...yet?
