New Prime, Would Like to Verify Root Process - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

My father-in-law got a Prime about a year ago and used it for a month. Last night I came into my possession! So with what little time I had last night to play with it I unlocked the bootloader. I'm running 4.0.3 and the build is 9.4.2.21 (I know the last number is 20-something but I don't have it in front of me so I can't verify this but I think it's 21).
So I have the bootloader unlocked but I am a little cautious on how to proceed. I'm not new to rooting cause I did it on my OG Droid, Thunderbolt, and Verizon SGS3 but I've never used NV Flash so I just have a few things I was hoping the Prime community could help me with. I have read through the development forum but nothing really lays out steps. There is a video to unlock the bootloader and other videos showing how to root. Like I said, I just wanna make sure I'm doing it right.
How I think the steps go:
1) Unlock Bootloader (DONE)
2) Install Recovery (TWRP)
3) Run NV Flash (can this be done on ICS or JB?)
4) Root using an ICS one click method (this seems to be an easy one to use zedomax one click
5) Upgrade the bootloader from ICS to JB (not sure how to do this or where to get the JB bootloader)
6) Install JellyBean ROM of choice (Energy ROM seems to be pretty popular)
Any help/advice?

You have unlocked so now get nvflash done http://androidroot.mobi/t3_nvflash/ you can only do this while on ICS and if you make backups of the files created during the process you can never hard brick your device so get this done first.
Once that is done you can flash TWRP for ICS (make sure it is ICS version while on ICS bootloader, you will install a JB version later on)
You can now go about updating to jellybean bootloader and custom rom. You do not need to root first as the root will be built into the custom rom.
The easiest way I can suggest is to follow my instructions in the second post here for "Upgrade Instructions for ICS" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827
If you wanted to install energy rom instead of Hairybean just replace the hairybean 1.51 rom in the instructions with energy rom and do the same.

Awesome! Thanks for the help!
Couple questions:
1) I read through that second post and the TWRP update says "HairyBean TWRP Update." I'm guessing what this does is install a JB version of TWRP. Question is, does it matter that is is labeled with "HairyBean" if I am going to install something other than that ROM?
2) ROM suggestions? I just read some posts of people saying they really like Energy ROM. How's HairyBean? Comparison between the two?

1. Hairybean Twrp is just a version I made that looks like you are in Jellybean and to me has a more logical layout. There is also an installer script that you run from windows to make it easier for people to install. If you want the default look then go to the twrp website and get the ics version and run the commands manually. It makes no difference what twrp you are running it is just cosmetic.
2. They are both based on stock rom, Hairybean looks more like the standard Jellybean where as Energy rom is themed. It is all down to personal preference. Try both and see which one you prefer.
edit.. Don't forget you are going to need an ICS version of twrp first. The hairybean twrp is for after you have flashed the JB bootloader.
edit 2.. There is a version of ICS twrp in this link you can use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34477681&postcount=5705

I downloaded that but it says in your post to open the .bat file in the zip.
Can I just flash ICS TWRP using an app like ROM toolbox or can I only do it through a windows machine using the .bat file?

You can do it thru the tablet but it is a last resort really.
Download - ADB / Terminal method (not recommended):
Download the corresponding .blob file above. Save it to the root of your /sdcard directly (internal memory only) and rename it to twrp.blob
Launch terminal emulator or connect to your computer and open an adb shell, then type the following:
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
Then reboot normally (NOT to recovery) to complete installation.

Yea, you know, I think I'll just do it through my PC. Sounds like the safer method!
Just reading up on NV Flash right now. That seem like the most complicated process compared to what you laid out for me above....but it doesn't look too bad.

Yea, not too worried. Like I said, I've rooted every Android phone I've had. Also had the HP Touchpad for a while and that thing was scary at times when using mooboot.
Thanks again for the help man! Hopefully I get to try this tonight and I'll let you know how it goes!

I've got a problem.....I can't figure out how to flash TWRP for ICS. From my rooting experience, I was going to flash it through ROM Manager or ROM toolbox but you need root in order to do that. I can't seem to get root though. I tried Zedomax and TPSparkyRoot but I can't get root access. How do I flash TWRP or any recovery for that matter without obtaining root access?
I did the NV Flash and it went good. FYI

I linked you to it on the last page.
Download the zip in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34477681&postcount=5705
Extract it to your pc.
Power off the prime and then hold down power button and volume down for about 10 seconds until you see icons on your screen. Press volume down to go to the usb icon and then press volume up to enter fastboot mode (it will say entering fastboot mode and freeze on your screen, this is normal)
Make sure you have the drivers installed on pc for fastboot. You probably did it when you did nvflash but if not get them here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502
Now run the bat file from the zip you extracted earlier and follow the onscreen instructions.

Brand New NOOB to Droid I want CM7!!!!

Ok so here's the thing I obviously have a Motorola Atrix 4g and I am from the United States. I have rooted my device via Pete's Motorola root tools, I have accessed my webtop hack and tether. I've been research for about a week straight on how to install CM7, but the CM7 that I really want is EVOGP's whch has facial recognition capabilities (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382934&highlight=facial+recognition). I am currently running stock Gingerbread. I have previously tried t0dbld's way of installing for the latest version of CM7 (Ba2TF) based on his installation instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574&highlight=facial+recognition). Unfortunately I failed and ended up wiping all my contacts and starting brand new. The portion that I do not see is the second step :
1.)Reboot phone into CWM recovery (Power Button + Vol Down), press Vol Down until you see "Android Recovery" then press Vol Up to enter.
2.) Go to Backup & Restore and create a backup (this may take some time)
I dont see where to go for Backup and restore to create a back. It too me a while to figure out that had to press the both volume buttons just to toggle. But this was the first area, that was blurry. If someone could explain step by step how to get to "Backup &Restore and create a backup" would be great.
Next while apparently not backing up my rom, I decided since I already had a rom and I wanted CM7 that wouldnt be important. So I try to install the Ba2tf.zip via the bootloader screen which located on my sd card. So I go "apply blah blah to Sd card" I see the Ba2tf.zip and I press the power button to unzip the file or install. The process I see starts unloading the zip file then starts to installing the file, everything is great. Then it says "installation failed".
If someone can tell me what I did wrong and give me a step by step process of what I should and be seeing, I would greatly appreciate this help. As you cant tell I really want CM7 especially EVOGP's. Please help!!! Step by step please!!!!
Have you unlocked your phone using fruitcake? Which CWM are you running?
It's Pudding, not fruitcake.

Is your bootloader unlocked? If not, then unlock it. Search for pudding in the Dev Forum.
After that, you need the right recovery (CWM)
Which recovery are you using? You should flash romracer's latest CWM. Most of all the ROMs are using the latest Romracer's recovery so you won't go wrong with using that.
Then from there --- you should be good to go.......
I had no idea you had to unlock, I thought unlocking and rooting was the same thing. And I a bit new with lingo does CWM refer to Clockwork Mod? If so I downloaded the standard free Rom Manager on the market. I assume judging by your message I should probably unlock my phone using fruitcake? If I do can you post simplified link on how to install fruit cake?
Follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
The instructions provide links for Pudding and romracer's recovery, which are both needed to flash any custom Rom.
Here's the link for CM7:

I have installed rsdlite. Where can I find the drivers that I'm supposed to install? Or does it come bundled already?
Here:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
Also, after you install the drivers it helps to plug it in and then go through all the USB options in the drop down and allow each one to install as well. (eg. Windows Sync, USB Mass Storage, Portal)

Yeah i remember downloading this a while back.... I'm currently at Proper Recovery 5B and my command prompt says <waiting for device> and it wont allow me to type 5C.... Do I choose either A,B or C then pick D? And I'm currently on my bootload screen and it says Unlocked in the top left corner
Does anybody know anything of this nature?
Someone help I'm getting worried now
Now my phone shut off and the charging light is on....
I typed in 5c and it says it's not found... i tried 5d and that didnt work <waiting for devices> .... my phone was unresponsive even to the power button so i pulled the battery and turned it on it brought me back to the bootload screen that said unlock in the top left. my phone is now charging on the normal house charger and i turned it back on it's responsive I dont have any of my cards in so it's showing motoblur
Does this mean my phones unlocked and I should just go ahead and install the CM7?

Hey all,
I was flashing a new rom and ran into some issues.
I have the new rom on the SD Card, but when I go into TWRP (2.2.0) and go to install,
I can not access the SD card. It shows in the tree, but it is not showing anything on it. I have accidently removed my backup by doing a wipe on everything. Am I done and have to replace it ?

You should be ok at the moment but we are going to take this one step at a time.
I need to know what bootloader you are on before we progress.
Power off the machine and hold down power down and volume down the same time for about 10 seconds until the icons appear on your screen (usb icon, wipe etc) look up the top left of your screen and there will be text with a long number at the end, it will either start with a 9 or a 10. What is this number?
Also what rom do you want to put on ?

Hmmm that is not really what I was after.. Let's try another way as I think you will be on ICS bootloader if running an old version of CM10,
Switch on machine and tell me where the Tegra logo is. If it down the bottom center it is ICS bootloader, if it is down the bottom right it is JB bootloader.

Ok, you are still on ICS bootloader.
First of all I would do the nvflash process if you haven't before. http://androidroot.mobi/t3_nvflash/ This can only be done while on ICS and once you have backed up the files created during the process you can never fully hard brick your device.
Then to get you up to the new rom.
Grab the ICS TWRP UPDATER.zip from this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34477681&postcount=5705 You will extract the zip file and run the bat file and follow the onscreen instructions to flash it. You will only ever use this once and will allow you to put the Jellybean bootloader and rom onto the external SD to flash it. Never use the file again once you have flashed the Jellybean bootloader as it will brick you. You will flash a JB version of TWRP after the JB bootloader has been installed.
After that is installed you want to go to post 2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827 and follow the insructions for "Upgrade Instructions for ICS"
If you wanted to install energy rom instead of Hairybean just replace the hairybean 1.51 rom in the instructions with energy rom and do the same.

When you click up on the USB icon and it says entering fastboot mode and freezes that is normal. That means you are in fastboot.
Look in device manager and see if you have any exclamation marks by anything, if you do then you don't have the drivers installed.

It doesn't matter which rom you install mate. I knew you wanted to install Energy rom when you started and it makes no difference to me.
Energy and Hairybean are both great roms and both based off stock just that Hairybean looks more like stock and Energy is themed.
Try them both and find which one suits you best
Unbrick Prime
It sounds like you have some good help here and hopefully you can get through this problem.. I just wanted to drop my two cents. Good thing to remember is to be on the latest Recovery (as you mentioned TWRP, make sure its always the latest esp. when flashing JB ROM's). Also if you can't unbrick it, head over to this thread here and here where I personally had a lot of assistance unbricking my Prime from a hard brick using nvflash. Good luck.

[Q] Rooting & Unlocking a Rezound in 2013 (w/Updates)

Hello All,
I bought my mom an HTC Rezound back in 2011 and given that I've been possessed with rooting, unlocking, and modding, I got my hands on her device the other day and nearly died when I saw all of the bloatware she had on it. Now she's at least updated to ICS, however I would like to root/unlock and mod her device so I can make it run a lot better.
The question is - what is the best way to root/unlock this device? I've read a lot of the XDA threads and done some Google searches, but most of the XDA guides are old and a lot of the comments (on XDA and Google) is that several of the methods don't work for the "updated" Rezounds. I reiterate that hers is an old version (original from 2011) but has the 2012/2013 updates.
If someone could please provide a link to a known working method for the 2012/2013 updated Rezounds, that would be great!
Thank you!
-Taxmaster
The basic method hasn't changed. Unlock the bootloader at htcdev.com, flash a recovery with fastboot, then go from there. You might see stuff talking about charging problems with CWM...you can safely ignore that, it's old news. There is no issue with the new CWM. You might also see stories of issues flashing things with TWRP. Again, that's old news. The recent versions of TWRP have no issues. A lot use Amon-ra, but I don't like it and haven't used it since TWRP and CWM were fixed, so I can't really say much more about it.
Hansoon's all-in-one toolkit will still work fine with this phone through the initial
Kernels can't be flashed in recovery unless you go the extra step of getting S-OFF. They can still be flashed, but only through the bootloader (using either fastboot or a PH98IMG.zip, if the ROM or kernel provides it). S-OFF also removes version checks which normally prevents downgrading of radios and bootloader. However, this phone is essentially unbrickable while it's S-ON, so there is a tradeoff.
Keep in mind that unlocking this phone's bootloader will wipe /data and emmc, so find a way to backup anything important before you start.
As for ROMs, AOSP is 99% working now...it's actually better here now than it is on the Note 2, and I prefer it to Sense on this phone, but there are some great Sense ROMs out as well. The only caveat is that MHL is only working on Sense 3.6 and I think one Sense 4+ ROM...no AOSP ROM has it working and most Sense 4 ROMs don't.

Thank you for covering this so thoroughly! Can you clarify what Sense is and what (if any) advantage it has over AOSP? I have a Galaxy Note 2 so I haven't come across this before.
Also, my plan is to use TWRP and only flash ROMs that have a custom kernel as part of the ROM (no separate flashing).

100% correct with that. Personally i like the AOSP roms better then sense. they just seem to work very well and alot of bugs have been worked out and they seem alot quicker then sense roms. The few things that you are missing from not having a sense rom are min and not a lot of people really notice. I use Neo's Infection 2.5. great rom, great speed, and very stable

That actually was the ROM I was planning on using!
Here is my plan of attack (check to see if this looks okay):
Backup: MyBackup Pro (later on use Titanium Backup, but apparently temp. root doesn't work anymore after the ICS update).
Unlock/Root: Hassoon's All-In-One Kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504824
ROM to flash: Neo's Infection 2.5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070947
Let me know if you give this plan of attack a thumbs up! Also, please let me know if you have any suggestions or things I should be aware of along the way!
Thanks!

I've never used the all-in-one kit. I was never a big fan of them, but other people have had good success with it. From what it looks like it would be the same as doing it step by step manually. so i would say use that.
But yea that looks good, also make sure if you are going to stay s-on, to extract the boot.img file from the rom and flash it in fastboot.
Also just remember when you go ahead and do the unlock from HTC, it WILL data wipe your phone, so anything that needs to be backed up back it up..as you did say backup i think you already know that
other then that i say thumbs up

Okay, well I plan to stay S-On given that when I flash Neo's Infection 2.5 ROM it includes the Hiro Kernel. I went to download his ROM (which version should I use btw? I downloaded Infection_2.5.zip and there are others that say inverted, slim, dev, etc.) and extracted boot.img. I haven't worked with fastboot yet so could you give me a brief walkthrough on how to proceed with that?
By the way, do you recommend the AMON RA recovery that Neo mentions? I'm personally a TWRP fan.
Thanks!

yeah no problem.
the difference are this
Slim is basiclly a stripped down version of the rom, min amount of apps and stuff no google stuff or anything..you have to download each thing seperate
the dev version is the one he uses to dev with, it was more less setup for Neo to use and play with for testing..nothing special with it just more stripped down then the standards
the inverted and non inverted are the same roms. the big difference is the inverted uses a dark them with bright lettering where as the non inverted uses a light theme with dark lettering. this also has the google apps installed
I use the inverted as i think it looks cool, always like the darker themed stuff. personal pref on that tho
fastboot is pretty simple to use. First you will need to download it.. ive always used the android SDK and then downloaded it from that and then removed the SDK. If you do some digging around im sure you can find the fastboot and adb stuff by itself.
so once you get the phone unlocked via htcdev you need to flash the recovery file. I do use amon ra like neo suggest. TWRP and CMW work just as well now that they fixed alot of the issues they were having. Im like amon so i tend to stick with it..its clean easy to use and never had a problem with it
to flash the recovery, you will need to use fastboot
to enter fastboot, pull the battery and put it back in, hold down the power and vol down button till you get the bootloader, then use the vol keys to select fastboot, then hit the power button. plug the phone into the computer
open the command prompt and go to where you have fastboot downloaded and then make sure the recovery img is there
type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img then hit enter. This will flash the recovery to the phone,
then do your typical flashing of the rom in the recovery. after you have flashed the rom, if you are using amon, back out till you hit the main menu and go down to dev options and select boot to bootloader..this will reboot your phone into the bootloader again, then just go back into the fastboot like you did to flash recovery. then open up the rom with a zip program like 7zip winrar and you will see a boot.img file. take that file out and put it in the same location as the recovery file on your computer that also has the fastboot program
go back to the command promt and type
fastboot flash boot boot.img to install the boot img into the phone and then when its down you can reboot..all should be good to go
hopefully this make since to you lol if not let me know and i will clearify it

Okay, so here's where I'm at:
1. I downloaded the Android SDK and installed it. I went into the folder Downloads/adtbundle..../sdk/platform-tools
In this directory I see an adb and a fastboot file. When I try to open and run either one of them, a window opens and terminates less than a minute after. I don't know if this is normal or not if if I'm supposed to use a different directory, but this is where I extracted these files to. (x64 Win 7 Ultimate btw).
2. When you say open the command prompt, which one are we talking about here and how do I get to it? When I think of command prompt, I'm thinking Windows "Run" (start+R).
3. You noted to have the amon ra recovery in the same directory as fastboot (at least that is what I believe you're inferring). Is the directory I noted above the appropriate place to put this Ra3.15PH98IMG.img file in? Am I supposed to leave it in this format?
4. Do I type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" in verbatim or do I type in something else (a different command), perhaps fastboot flash recovery Ra3.15PH98IMG.img ?
5. I'm confused regarding when I'm supposed to flash the ROM itself using Amon Ra. It seems like first I unlock, then I use fastboot to install Amon Ra, then I use fastboot to install the image extracted from the Infection 2.5zip. Once this is all done, then do I flash the Infection2.5.zip itself using Amon Ra?
6. How is the snuzzo funkybean kernel? Is it a better kernel than the Hiro? Overclock etc?
Sorry in advance for the many clarifying questions lol, the last thing I want is to break my mother's phone and be on the hook to buy her a new one lol.

Your totally fine buds, i tend to not make thing totally clear..its my learning disabilty, i think of it in my head but sometimes my fingers dont always type what i think. so lets take this 1 step at a time
as you have downloaded the SDK already i will skip that..but here pretty much the step by step. If you are using the all-in-one
1.) Go to http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ and fill out the form, it tells you how to do everything from the site on how to unlock your phone
2.) Once you have unlocked it, you will need to install the custom recovery amon ra
3.) make a directory under the c drive called phone and copy the platform-tools from the SDK there. so you should see something like this
C:\phone\fastboot.exe
C:\phone\adb.exe
etc....
4 copy the boot.img and the recovery img to c:\phone (for ease rename amon to recovery.img)
5.) pull the battery on your phone and reinstall it...hold down power button and the vol down button
6.) once you are in the bootloader select fastboot from the menu and hit the power button
7.) connect the phone via usb to the computer and open a command prompt window ( Crtl + r then type cmd and hit enter)
8.) type in cd\ and then hit enter
9.) type cd c:\phone and then hit enter
10.) type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and then hit enter...you should see it loading and end up saying succesfull
11.) go back into the bootloader by selecting it from the menu on the phone and then use the vol down key to select recovery. this will boot into amon
12.) once you are in amon, select mount as usb drive..i think its the second option in the menu and then mount either of the sd cards.
13.) copy the ROM zip the phone and then once its down hit the power button to turn that function off
14.) go to the wipe menu and wipe everything 3 times, this will give your phone a clean slate
15.) back out and then select the flash zip menu and then select where you saved the rom and let it flash away.
16.) once you have flashed back out to the main menu again and then select the dev option in the menu and select reboot to bootloader, you are going to select fastboot again.
do steps 9 and 10 again if you closed the previous window other wise type in fastboot flash boot boot.img, and you will see a similuar screen like you did on the recovery file, once its done reboot your phone and you are now running a custom rom
I dont think that funky is overclocked by default, but the option is there to over/under click if thats your liking. Ive always had good luck with his kernals so i tend to stick to snuzzos kernals. ive used Hiro before and never really noticed much of a huge difference between the two. I live by the saying if it isnt broke dont fix it. so tend to stick with the funky just because i know it works and its never given me problems
hopefully this clears things up

I followed you up to step 13 (thanks for getting me this far btw!)
Questions:
1. You say to copy the ROM zip "the phone" and then once "its down" hit the power button to turn that function off. I'm totally confused as to what this means. For one, I don't know if I'm supposed to copy the Infection2.5.zip to the C:\phone or to the extSDCard. Then I just don't follow what you mean by "its down" and "turn that function off".
2. Just to clarify, it sounds like this is the order of operations (excluding wipes):
--Unlock/Root
--Fastboot Recovery
--Use Recovery to Flash ROM
--Fastboot boot.img (from ROM)
--Reboot system (restart phone)
Does this seem correct? Also, is there a cache/dalvik-cache clear in order at some point?
Thanks!

Sorry those were miss types lol it should read this
copy the ROM to the sdcard and then once its done hit the power button to turn off usb mass storage
Basiclly what you are doing is copying infection 2.5 to your SDcard on your phone itself so you can flash it
Yes that would be the correct order.
As for wiping when you get into the wipe menu you will see the caches, and yes you will have to wipe both cache and devlik cache
Your very welcome btw

One last clarification, when you say to the "SDcard on your phone itself" do you mean extSDCard or sdcard0 ? My plan was to insert the extSDCard while the phone is currently running the stock ROM, format it, connect it to the PC (MTP) and then copy/paste the Infection2.5.zip over to it (extSDCard). I would then leave that file on the extSDCard and use it as the reference directory for the ROM flash. Is this appropriate, or is it required to store the ROM zip on sdcard0 (built-in memory)?
Thank you!

Problem with new TWRP version - need help

I have been running hariybean 2.31 for quite some time but saw some kitkat based roms are now available so I thought I would try on out. As a precursor, I had to upgrade my TWRP to the 2.6.3 version that supports KK. I did the upgrade using the terminal emulator method and it seems to have installed correctly but now, when I start recovery, it asks for a password to contiue. If you cancel out of it, then you do not have access to the partitions and I assume they are encrypted.
I cannot find a password listed anywhere, nor did i set one on my machine. I am rooted currently and unlocked. I also tried to downgrade TWRP back to the 2.5.0.0 version but i cant seem to do that either, it seems to instal, but when I go back into recovery, it is still the 2.6.3.0 version.
Can anybody help me? want to either get the password, disable the password (without loosing my data) or downgrade back to a version that will not request a password.
Detailed steps to accomplish any of the above would be greatly appriceiated!

Does he have his nvflash backups? I didn't notice him post that.
He needs to try the following and try to get back on the correct TWRP for that bootloader before downgrading.

If neither of them work for him then he can still be fixed but I'm gonna need to wipe the machine.

I'm going to be honest with you, the reason I was interested is I made the bonehead mistake of not downgrading to 4.1 before attempting to flash the KK twrp. Looks like the link you sent fixed the recovery just fine without needing NVFlash (At least in my case) if only I knew how to actually develop roms better. I want a 4.4.2 Linaro AOSP ROM with ART optimization (Or Vanir) for the Prime on the 4.2 bootloader... that would be pretty awesome.

Thanks for the replies so far. I now have made things even worse by using wipe in TWRP and now the OS is gone I have tried using the fastboot -I 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp.blob as suggested and it says it is writing it, but when it is done, it restarts into the same TWRP 2.6.3.0 version everytime. I have no data on the tablet that isn't already backed up (but I don't have NVflash) so I don't care how deep It needs to be formatted to get it back online again.
Any further suggestions or steps to take? I have ADB and Fastboot access but that seems to be all......
sheesh... all I wanted to do was try out KK

I finally got it back.
Did this list of commands:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase cache
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system c:\adb\blob
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
and that allowed me to overwrite the TWRP 2.6.3.0 and thus unencrypt the storage finally and then I just reinstalled the Harirybean zip again.
Thanks so much for all the help!

I do know a bit around linux, I have been using Ubuntu for about 3 years but not super familiar with things. I know basic commands in terminal and I know how to Google really well haha. Any chance you could PM me a list of starter guides because I really am interested in doing new development for the Prime. I am not getting a tablet anytime soon... due to money concerns and the fact that I just like the transformer series.

I would advise not starting with a rom but starting with an app to get yourself used to using toolchains etc.
Take a look at compiling your own version of Gotham XBMC to get you started, the instructions on that are pretty good and straight forward.

Awesome I will get cracking on that over the weekend. I will see how that treats me and if it goes well I will let you know and see if I could be your padawan learner and hopefully build a vanilla Linaro AOSP Rom for the 4.2 bootloader some day.
The blob file helped a lot and I'm back with a working TWRP! Great work - thanks again!
But I'm kind of scared and confused right now, regarding KitKat ROMs. Do I really need NVFlash?
I guess the right road 2 kitkat would be:
1. downgrade my bootloader
2. install flatline & nvflash
3. install cw recovery?
4. install kitkat roms?
There is also KitKat TWRP - is this the right way?
Like I said - I'm super confused. ^^

You are on Hairybean 2.31 at the moment? If so there are instructions somewhere in the hairybean thread on how to do nvflash backups while on there. Search is down at the moment so I can't find it for you.

Thanks for your help flumpster!

PLEASE HELP (DON'T KNOW HOW TO FLASH) VERIZON HTC ONE MAX - Confused am I.

I would like to know how to upgrade to a new ROM (Lollipop or better) on my Verizon HTC One Max with the option to return to stock. Software Information: 4.4.2, Sense 6.0, 3.09.605.3, 6.20, 4.60_002, 15432, 5
I was told to use (and did) Sunshine and then downloaded SuperSU from Google Store (per very detailed instructions and was told to not choose TWRP when the question popped up to choose one or the other (common/normal?)).
My phone is now UNLOCK and S-OFF as well as Rooted (but I'm having a lot of problems with blank screens, etc. and even had the black screen with the red ! in a red triangle (and I don’t know how I got it to boot up again (pushed pwr buttons, vol +/-, etc.)). However, that is as far as I’ve gotten. Confused am I.
I don’t know how to flash; however, I’ve been trying to figure it out, but I’m lost.
I’ve downloaded a lot of files from other threads, but the instructions, while detailed, didn’t say HOW to flash or add TWRP where I (a NEWBORN NEWBIE/NOOBIE) could understand, etc. Is there a place where all this is together?
Am I out of luck or would someone PLEASE help me fix and upgrade it with the option to return to stock if needed? I would love to have Sense 7.0, if possible. I apologize for such a long post/thread.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!
P. S. My phone is now Prepaid Verizon (was Postpaid). Don't know if that matters. I have pics of the files I downloaded from one of your great guys, but they are on my computer. Not sure how to upload. I AM GLAD THAT I FOUND YOUR SITE!!!!!
@LoveSpock I am going to make this short and simple...
First off the Verizon Max software only goes up to 4.4.2. If you want to upgrade you'll need a custom rom which is why you S-OFF and unlocked...
You will need to get familiar with fastboot commands. Google is your friend on how to use if you don't know how to. Here is the link to the TWRP image for your device. http://flyhalf205.com/recoveries/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.7.1-t6univ.img Once you get fastboot setup you will type in the command fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.7.1-t6univ.img Make sure you have everything in the same directory when executing the command.
From there you are free to wipe then flash anything you would like. Wiping will delete your data so text, contacts that are stored on local phone(not sim or google) will be deleted.
@Flyhalf205
Thank you for your response and instructions. Does this mean I don't need to do anything to the SUPERSU that is already on the phone (and what it did)?.... Following your instructions will wipe everything?
I'll definitely need to take out my sd card. I've saved a ton of stuff on it. ...and backup my contacts and text messages.
I have some more googling and try to learn what you wrote for me to learn. I'll also have to find out what ROM to use....
Your Padawan thanks you.

Shouldn't worry about supersu. Most custom ROMs are going to have that prebuilt into it. Once you get TWRP we will go further into detail about how stuff works.
If you use twrp no need to take your SD card out just go to setting and unchecked SD card and like lovespoke said make sure to dl the right file you can dl right fastboot files here on xda just search it
Hey! Don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm in the same boat. I've never rooted and I'm looking to root my Verizon HTC one max. I'd also like to maybe install a custom Rom but I'm a noob so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. Ok so it's my understanding that sunshine will root, s-off, AND unlock my boot loader? Btw I have no idea what those terms mean. Anyway, if someone could please confirm that about sunshine, it would really help me out. I've already downloaded and installed sunshine on my phone but I haven't paid the $25 yet.
Xx Moe, I strongly suggest you READ the various threads on XDA about unlocking bootloaders, gaining S-OFF and rooting. You can easily brick a device and there's much less support for the Max now than there was when it came out more than two years ago.
I don't believe Verizon HTC One Max's can be rooted without unlocking bootloader/gaining S-OFF and the exclusive method for that is Sunshine (unless you know someone with a Java card). Once you're bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, you can then "flash" any partition on the device and that's how to brick the device.
Once you are bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, you start by flashing a 'recovery', which is usually the latest version of TWRP for the HTC One Max. Don't flash a recovery for a different device. (Google "Team Win Recovery Project"). Once you have a custom recovery you can "wipe" your device and flash a new ROM.
Wiping deletes all data, or some data, depending upon how you wipe, and there are not very many Verizon HTC One Max ROMs out there that are fully functional. Check the threads, one sticky thread has a listing of ROMs.
Finally, I don't believe anyone has gotten Marshmallow going on a Max, so expect the "best" you'll be able to do is a Lollipop ROM or a Cyanogen Mod equivalent.
Awesome! Thanks for the super quick reply. So yes, sunshine will s-off and unlock boot loader. That seemed to be the million dollar question since (like you said) the one max doesn't have very much support anymore. I'm definitely going to keep reading the forums because I don't want to brick my phone. I've also been watching some tutorials on YouTube. Everything (so far) seems pretty straight forward now, but you can never be too careful. Thanks for your help hgoldner!

I'm trying to install a custom rom on my htc one max but this is my first time ever rooting/unlocking an android. Ive searched the site but i cant find a tutorial on how to install the custom recovery or learn about adb yet. I have sunshine already on my phone but i havent used it yet because i want to know exactly what im doing before i pay the $25. Any help is appreciated. I already know how to get into the bootloader by pressing the power and volume down buttom at the same time while the phone is turned off.

Download the platform tools and the android usb driver. Don't need anything else.
But basically if your s-off yet. Boot into HBOOT. Power off phone and hold down both power button and the volume down button. Select fastboot using the power button. Your computer should hopefully automatically pick up drivers and call the device "My HTC" in the device manager. If not you'll need to go in and manually assign the downloaded driver using the link above to the Android device in device manager.
Download twrp image file into the same directory as the platform tools downloaded to. In windows, right click while holding down shift anywhere on the white blank area in platform tools and click on "open command window here".. From there you will type in the command fastboot flash recovery recoveryFileName.img
If it says waiting for device. Check device manager and make sure the driver is installed right.

I've been out of commission... Sorry about the long wait.
I'm sure you've been very busy.
I found the fastboot.exe file and placed it and your twrp file into a folder on my desktop. Before I run fastboot and add your twrp img file, what would the next step be? .... I don't have have a ROM yet to add to the phone. Should I have that first? Would you please direct me to the right one for me? I noted in one of your replies to another member that there isn't a Marshmallow one, yet.
Do I need the ADB file?
Thank you,

I forget if you were s-off or s-on but you will need to be s-off or your bootloader will need to be unlocked.. You don't need a rom just yet. You could flash recovery and flash root for starters. But once you get it flashed we can start on what to do next.
Update...

Sorry... I started the thread back in January. I've been out of commission and starting over.
I had used Sunshine to S-off and Unlock. I used SU to root. I knew nothing about flashing or fastboot and am still learning. One of your original responses to my original post said that google was my friend, so I googled per your advice and found some information on fastboot.
I don't know what flash root means in your response above.
You had also gave me the link to the TWRP image for my phone. You also wrote "Make sure you have everything in the same directory when executing the command." I've added 2 of the pics again as well as one of your img file in the directory I created when I loaded Android Studio.
The Android Studio I downloaded is the latest. Does that make a difference? I did find info on this site about a minimal adb and fastboot. Would that have been better?
I'm imagining my phone will be out of commission until the new ROM is installed, right? (See how I'm still such a Newbie/Noobie!)
Thank you!
Your Padawan
