crap....I am in trouble - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hey all,
I was flashing a new rom and ran into some issues.
I have the new rom on the SD Card, but when I go into TWRP (2.2.0) and go to install,
I can not access the SD card. It shows in the tree, but it is not showing anything on it. I have accidently removed my backup by doing a wipe on everything. Am I done and have to replace it ?

You should be ok at the moment but we are going to take this one step at a time.
I need to know what bootloader you are on before we progress.
Power off the machine and hold down power down and volume down the same time for about 10 seconds until the icons appear on your screen (usb icon, wipe etc) look up the top left of your screen and there will be text with a long number at the end, it will either start with a 9 or a 10. What is this number?
Also what rom do you want to put on ?

Hmmm that is not really what I was after.. Let's try another way as I think you will be on ICS bootloader if running an old version of CM10,
Switch on machine and tell me where the Tegra logo is. If it down the bottom center it is ICS bootloader, if it is down the bottom right it is JB bootloader.

Ok, you are still on ICS bootloader.
First of all I would do the nvflash process if you haven't before. http://androidroot.mobi/t3_nvflash/ This can only be done while on ICS and once you have backed up the files created during the process you can never fully hard brick your device.
Then to get you up to the new rom.
Grab the ICS TWRP UPDATER.zip from this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34477681&postcount=5705 You will extract the zip file and run the bat file and follow the onscreen instructions to flash it. You will only ever use this once and will allow you to put the Jellybean bootloader and rom onto the external SD to flash it. Never use the file again once you have flashed the Jellybean bootloader as it will brick you. You will flash a JB version of TWRP after the JB bootloader has been installed.
After that is installed you want to go to post 2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827 and follow the insructions for "Upgrade Instructions for ICS"
If you wanted to install energy rom instead of Hairybean just replace the hairybean 1.51 rom in the instructions with energy rom and do the same.

When you click up on the USB icon and it says entering fastboot mode and freezes that is normal. That means you are in fastboot.
Look in device manager and see if you have any exclamation marks by anything, if you do then you don't have the drivers installed.
Get them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502

Thank you so very much. You saved me tremendously. The ROM is being installed right now and seems to be going fine. And as a plus, I have a pretty cool Recovery now...I was originally thinking that I was going to have to figure out how to explain to the wife that I broke my tab and was going to have to get a nexus 10...
UPDATE, ROM installned and booting right now...now to restore all my apps...
A great learning experience....

It doesn't matter which rom you install mate. I knew you wanted to install Energy rom when you started and it makes no difference to me.
Energy and Hairybean are both great roms and both based off stock just that Hairybean looks more like stock and Energy is themed.
Try them both and find which one suits you best

Unbrick Prime
It sounds like you have some good help here and hopefully you can get through this problem.. I just wanted to drop my two cents. Good thing to remember is to be on the latest Recovery (as you mentioned TWRP, make sure its always the latest esp. when flashing JB ROM's). Also if you can't unbrick it, head over to this thread here and here where I personally had a lot of assistance unbricking my Prime from a hard brick using nvflash. Good luck.

[Q] Freezes on HTC logo - could use some help

So I was trying to update my old energy ROM to ICS and I'm kind of hosed. Got instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759
Basically:
- Root your device
- Install a custom recovery
- Install the downloaded ROM .zip found in post #3
- Make sure to do a Factory Reset / Wipe before installing ROM
For the record, these steps are out of order. Steps 4 and 3 are switched and I didn't notice till it was to late. What I did next was do the factory reset and then try to re-install the ROM. Everything seemed to go fine until it was time for a reboot. Then it froze on the HTC logo.
Could use some ideas as to what my next move should be. Since it was a previous version of Energy ROM + Faux kernel, phone is definitely rooted, etc. Perhaps I should start over with a stock Gingerbread ROM?

Apparently I am also supposed to flash the kernel as per this thread which I've finally found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645641
In order to find it, I had to search for it using Google as this forum software is so haphazard. Also not mentioned in the instructions. Will try this next if I can get at it through just the custom recovery.
Still wrong. Coming from GB and going to ICS you need to flash the ICS RUU in bootloader. I don't know how many times its been mentioned or how many other threads have been started because of this issue.

It's Better To Fail At Originality

First im not resbonsible for anything that can happen to your phone this what i do if it didnt work im not resbonsible.
If you are rooted via HTCDev S-On Hboot 1.490018 and up you need to Run a command prompt and flash the boot.IMG that comes with the ROM (if not included extract the ROM and search for its in the .Zip file then move that file into a folder in the Root lf ur C Drive put your phone into fastboot mode (remove battery then put it back then press lock/on button and the volume up button at the same time) then connect it to your PC and run command prompt press on start and search for cmd then run it and type the following :
Cd c:\android (or whatever you named the folder)
After that type:
Fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
After its done unplug your phone from ur PC reboot it and it should work perfectly (it may stay at the HTC Logo for 10-20 minutes)
HOPE IT WORKS ENJOY!

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. Will see what I can make of it.
I notice that there is a file, PH85IMG.zip in the same directory as the modded ROM. The name isn't very descriptive. Clue?

I don't want to put down energy rom, but it hasn't been updated since the original leak, and the instructions were never clarified - he simply never explained the PROPER way to switch from gingerbread to ICS. ARHD gives a better explanation, but I think post #2 in the everything ICS thread gives the best and links to everything you should need..
You have to be careful anytime you are switching to a totally new OS. All the devices I know, switching from 2.1 to 2.2, or 2.2 to 2.3.. or to 4.0+.. it is USUALLY not just a "flash over the old OS".. just something to keep in mind for any of your other or future devices..

Well as far as I know, it ain't like he is getting paid much so it would seem to be a miracle if any of this stuff gets updated. ;-) If I don't have this figured out by Tuesday, I'll use it as an excuse to get a new phone. This one has a crack or two in the screen anyways.
Still, even so I would MUCH rather get this one working again. 'specially since I'm between software gigs & cash is tight. If Energy ROM hasn't been updated and there's a better and/or more complete set of instructions maybe I should be looking at something else. Will continue hunting through these forums for info but can use all the help I can get since this forum software ain't exactly friendly. Probably best to see if I can get it back to stock on ICS and then work forward from there. Having said that, I have an RUU that I am working with, its: PH85IMG_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_Radio_1.14.550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip
Tried just flashing it but apparently there's more to it than that.
Latest problem is that I can't get it re-locked without enabling USB debugging. Can't do this since I don't have a working OS. Can it be done from CLI or recovery?
Uh.... hmmm... mysterious. Seems to have fixed itself. Will try a restart and see what happens.

I was saying that there are some other options, other roms, that have better instructions and have been updated fairly well.. that is all.
The thread I was talking about by glacierguy is here - it links to tons of resources and should answer most questions you may come up with. For example it has "Relock phone (fastboot oem lock)" you can issue fastboot commands while your phone is booted into the bootloader - so this has nothing to do with usb debugging..
There is tons of information here, I know it isn't absolutely organized, but there are a lot of guys here who tried to make the information as easy to find as possible..
Did u try to restart it again it usually takes a couple of times but anyway should either return to stock or use the RUU for the ICS ROM

If you want cutting edge(these both have features no other rom has added yet, and are very current update wise) and like the senseui, try remix's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673609 or if you want with less sense and more of an aosp-ish feel go for his http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623184
ARHD is what is being used for the base for many roms because it is solid and bugless, energy has more features that he had included in his gingerbread rom.. I've heard good things about capromce, but I have no idea what features he has added that are or aren't included in the others..
Heheheh and its not my first language thats why you might see a lot of grammar and/or writen mistakes, just for the futur before you flash any new ROM Back-Up you current or the original ROM just in case something like this happen so you can restsore it without worrying and hope i helped

[REQ] Need help/someone to change the kernel image in existing ROM

Hi,
I won't give you the long story so here's what happened:
- TouchscreenDigitizer & LCD broke
- Replaced both
- Got a different rev of the Digitizer, result: X-Axis is inverted
- Someone (darksawa) built a patch for this by editing the touchscreen driver but you need nvflash enabled to replace the kernel image the easy way
- Was on JB Stock without root/unlock until now so I'm not able to enable nvflash
- There is a way to get it done anyway: Get the edited kernel image into another rom and install it via TWRP
- Tried to extract the stock rom (unpack blob files etc..) and replaced the kernel image - then pack all together again but wasn't working (flashing procedure abrupted, no brick)
Could someone of you do me and some other guys a big favour by replacing the original kernel image of the stock rom WW-10.4.2.15 with this kernel image?
Thank you!!!

I tested the kernel myself before uploading it for you mate.. It worked fine. Everything was reversed for me when I booted back into the rom.
You could try doing a factory reset and a cache and dalvik wipe to see if that is your problem.
I was running hairybean 1.3 on jellybean when I tested it.
What rom are you running ?

After you flashed my zip did you see a blue progress bar go along after you restarted the prime. If you did then the kernel definately flashed.
You can also try holding down the power button and volume down button until you get to the place where there are 4 icons and then going over to the wipe data icon and selecting that. That should factory reset your machine.
If that doesn't work let me know.

Well you're definitely not bricked so don't panic.
I think the next step would be to install a rom like you say. Try installing Hairybean 1.3 and follow all the steps in the original post. If you are still stuck after that I think the next step will be to run a full wipe script on your prime and then install a rom.
Try the rom first and let me know how you get on. We will get this sorted soon enough
Also before you install the rom, factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik and system then install.

I will help you when I am at pc later. Get me this info ready please. Power off prime. Hold down volume down and power. When the icons appear for fastboot etc look at the top left where the writing is and at the end of the line with bootloader in it is a long number. Does this number start with a 9 or a 10?

Ok, you are on the ICS bootloader at the moment. The first thing we are going to do is flash a version of TWRP recovery on there which will allow you to install a rom off the external SD.
Power off the prime and put yourself into fastboot mode by holding power button and volume down the same time until a few icons appear on the screen. At this point press volume down to go over to the usb icon and then press volume up. It will look like the prime has frozen. Plug the prime into pc and make sure you have the drivers installed. If you do not please install them from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502
Next follow this post to flash ICS twrp http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34477681&postcount=5705
Only use the file in that link to install it while on ICS bootloader. Later on you are going to flash hairybean 1.3 which will take you up to Jellybean Bootloader. If you use this file after that you will brick your tablet.
After you have TWRP installed put a rom Hairybean 1.3 onto the external sd and then go into twrp and select wipe. Factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik and wipe system.
Press back and click install.. Now click the external button to select external sd card and click on the hairybean 1.3 rom.
Follow all instruction in the following post to install 1.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827
Once you have done them all and have now installed Hairybean 1.3 and the new Jellybean twrp and it is all running fine then please feel free to update to Hairybean 1.4.
Hi flumper thanks again for your help..
Im up to the part where i have TWRP installed from you link above, I have downloaded HB 1.3, and i'm a little bit unsure of how to get the rom to the external sd card, I have mounted the external SD-card in TWRP, but adb devices does not list my pad as connected, how do i push the rom over to install? Not sure how to proceed your warning about bricking it has scared the poop out of me
again i can't thank you enough for the help you have provided me.
=== Forgive me i have re-read you post, following instruction's for the 1.3 HB install now will get back to you.

I think you have worked it out by now but just put your external sd card into a card reader on your pc and copy it over then put it back in the prime.
Make sure you delete that zip from installing twrp earlier and never use it again.. There will be another one included in the HB 1.3 zip that you extract and flash for a different twrp at about step 8.

Okay Flumper, just a small problem i have encountered i have followed the instructions, I have the 1.3 HB install over on my external SD, I can install it but the first part, wipe all the cache ect but i keep getting errors unable to mount system, unable to mount data, should I just try and install your HB 1.3 or am I going to brick it even more? oh and i don't think the boot loader is unlocked well i don't think it is.
it is unlocked Flumper, i have installed the rom and its booting i did notice a failed to mount /staging at the end but everything installed ok moving on with the install.

Keep an eye on the androwook thread. 1.5 will be out next week as we are beta testing it now. It includes the latest patch from asus that came out about 2 weeks ago and other fixes/improvements.
Now that you are on the jellybean bootloader you might want to try a custom twrp I made. It will probably have a more logical layout for you as you've never used twrp before. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34359560&postcount=5497

New Prime, Would Like to Verify Root Process

My father-in-law got a Prime about a year ago and used it for a month. Last night I came into my possession! So with what little time I had last night to play with it I unlocked the bootloader. I'm running 4.0.3 and the build is 9.4.2.21 (I know the last number is 20-something but I don't have it in front of me so I can't verify this but I think it's 21).
So I have the bootloader unlocked but I am a little cautious on how to proceed. I'm not new to rooting cause I did it on my OG Droid, Thunderbolt, and Verizon SGS3 but I've never used NV Flash so I just have a few things I was hoping the Prime community could help me with. I have read through the development forum but nothing really lays out steps. There is a video to unlock the bootloader and other videos showing how to root. Like I said, I just wanna make sure I'm doing it right.
How I think the steps go:
1) Unlock Bootloader (DONE)
2) Install Recovery (TWRP)
3) Run NV Flash (can this be done on ICS or JB?)
4) Root using an ICS one click method (this seems to be an easy one to use zedomax one click
5) Upgrade the bootloader from ICS to JB (not sure how to do this or where to get the JB bootloader)
6) Install JellyBean ROM of choice (Energy ROM seems to be pretty popular)
Any help/advice?

You have unlocked so now get nvflash done http://androidroot.mobi/t3_nvflash/ you can only do this while on ICS and if you make backups of the files created during the process you can never hard brick your device so get this done first.
Once that is done you can flash TWRP for ICS (make sure it is ICS version while on ICS bootloader, you will install a JB version later on)
You can now go about updating to jellybean bootloader and custom rom. You do not need to root first as the root will be built into the custom rom.
The easiest way I can suggest is to follow my instructions in the second post here for "Upgrade Instructions for ICS" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827
If you wanted to install energy rom instead of Hairybean just replace the hairybean 1.51 rom in the instructions with energy rom and do the same.

Awesome! Thanks for the help!
Couple questions:
1) I read through that second post and the TWRP update says "HairyBean TWRP Update." I'm guessing what this does is install a JB version of TWRP. Question is, does it matter that is is labeled with "HairyBean" if I am going to install something other than that ROM?
2) ROM suggestions? I just read some posts of people saying they really like Energy ROM. How's HairyBean? Comparison between the two?

1. Hairybean Twrp is just a version I made that looks like you are in Jellybean and to me has a more logical layout. There is also an installer script that you run from windows to make it easier for people to install. If you want the default look then go to the twrp website and get the ics version and run the commands manually. It makes no difference what twrp you are running it is just cosmetic.
2. They are both based on stock rom, Hairybean looks more like the standard Jellybean where as Energy rom is themed. It is all down to personal preference. Try both and see which one you prefer.
edit.. Don't forget you are going to need an ICS version of twrp first. The hairybean twrp is for after you have flashed the JB bootloader.
edit 2.. There is a version of ICS twrp in this link you can use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34477681&postcount=5705

You can do it thru the tablet but it is a last resort really.
Download - ADB / Terminal method (not recommended):
Download the corresponding .blob file above. Save it to the root of your /sdcard directly (internal memory only) and rename it to twrp.blob
Launch terminal emulator or connect to your computer and open an adb shell, then type the following:
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
Then reboot normally (NOT to recovery) to complete installation.

Yea, you know, I think I'll just do it through my PC. Sounds like the safer method!
Just reading up on NV Flash right now. That seem like the most complicated process compared to what you laid out for me above....but it doesn't look too bad.

Yea, not too worried. Like I said, I've rooted every Android phone I've had. Also had the HP Touchpad for a while and that thing was scary at times when using mooboot.
Thanks again for the help man! Hopefully I get to try this tonight and I'll let you know how it goes!
I've got a problem.....I can't figure out how to flash TWRP for ICS. From my rooting experience, I was going to flash it through ROM Manager or ROM toolbox but you need root in order to do that. I can't seem to get root though. I tried Zedomax and TPSparkyRoot but I can't get root access. How do I flash TWRP or any recovery for that matter without obtaining root access?
I did the NV Flash and it went good. FYI

I linked you to it on the last page.
Download the zip in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34477681&postcount=5705
Extract it to your pc.
Power off the prime and then hold down power button and volume down for about 10 seconds until you see icons on your screen. Press volume down to go to the usb icon and then press volume up to enter fastboot mode (it will say entering fastboot mode and freeze on your screen, this is normal)
Make sure you have the drivers installed on pc for fastboot. You probably did it when you did nvflash but if not get them here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502
Now run the bat file from the zip you extracted earlier and follow the onscreen instructions.

The CMD window closes and my Prime is still on the fastboot screen. What buttons do I hold/press to get into TWRP?

[Q] Inherited a TF201

It has CWM 5.8.2.0 on it and CM10, but I could use a good primer on how to find out what bootloader it has (I see a lot of stuff about JB/ICS)? I'm new to all this stuff, so I'm still learning. What should my priorities be in cleaning this thing up and knowing where I stand?
Boot it by holding down power + volume down and you will be taken to the boot loader. The version is in the top left corner.
Don't update the bootloader on cwm though unless you want a brick. Read the threads about what works and how to do it safely and also how to move to a compatible twrp recovery.

Thank you. My bootloader is apparently version 2.10e, US_epad-9.4.2.15-20120221" A03. I've had a hard time finding any thread that tells me how to interpret that. One thread says if on boot you still see the ASUS logo in the bottom center, then it's ICS (I see that). If it's the nVidia logo in the bottom right hand, it's JB.
I appreciate the effort you took in responding, my issue here is that I have a limited understanding of the work that was done to get the tablet to this point, so picking up things has been difficult.
If I am on ICS, there's this thread which links to a flashable rom with JB BL and TWRP. I can't imagine it's that simple.

You have an ICS bootloader so you need to be careful. It's very easy to brick if you go to the latest bootloader on your current recovery.
That thread you linked to is for the Cyanogen Mod bootloader. Is that the ROM you are wishing to flash?
I would go to flumpster's AndroWook thread and read there and ask what recovery you should use before updating anything.
Good luck!
