Hello,
Please can somebody help me?
I've asked in the forum that I got the idea from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35735978#post35735978) and here because I need help tonight and as soon as possible!
Basically, I HTCDev Unlocked my EVO 3D GSM on HBOOT 1.53.0007 and flashed 4EXT Touch Recovery and everything, rooted with SU and BusyBox and decided that by looking at that thread, I could try a Sense 4 ROM. I tried Viper3D which didn't load at all, so I restored my back-up from 4EXT and now even the STOCK HTC firmware won't load and I can't find a stock HTC boot.img to flash via fastboot.
This is the second time I've managed to do this, and if my parents find out I've done it again, I'll never be allowed a phone ever again.
Please could somebody help me, by giving me step-by-step help on how to get it working again? I'd need help tonight because I need my phone for work tomorrow.
If I re-lock the bootloader and run the RUU for my phone, will it work?
Thank you!
1. Relock bootloader if you are s-on.
2. Boot into fastboot.
3. Connect to computer.
4. Run ruu.exe for your country and carrier.
How to do each step is all over this site so you should be good to go.

Thank you so much! I'll give it a go and then let you know what happens!
EDIT: Downloaded the wrong one by accident, downloading the right one now. I'll update when I'm done
Rule no1. when tweaking your phone: Don't panic.
Rule no2. when the first try fails, try again and do some research. what is causing it to fail?
Also hboot 1.53 is an issue you could just downgrade your hboot to 1.49
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh!

Me? Not panic? Not possible! Haha.
I'm downloading the right RUU still, the internet is just too slow!

I would downgrade, but that's way too high-tech for me, given the wire-trick and all. I'll bare it in mind for future, if/when I have a new phone and the EVO isn't as important to me
Okay, slight snag.
The phone doesn't have an OS on it and whenever I try and boot up with a re-locked bootloader it only boots into HBOOT and no further and the RUU won't recognize it.
Should I unlock it again, flash 4EXT recovery, flash a ROM or backup, and then lock and use the RUU?
I'm running out of ideas, and trying not to panic, like you said, but I don't know what to do.
I've flashed recovery, and I've managed to start a restore of my old 3.6 ROM, should I just re-lock the bootloader and use the RUU after it's restored?
EDIT: The restore worked this time for some reason! Thank you guys for managing to help me calm down!

I have an HTC EVO 3D That I purchased yesterday, and It's been flashed to Boost Mobile (A company owned and operated by Sprint) Boost is a CDMA service. I am interested in rooting my device, but when I tried this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218193 I was stopped because my HBOOT isn't supported. Baffled, I went searching the forums and found this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547695 unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's safe to proceed with this procedure, because I wasn't there when my phone was flashed, and I don't know if HTC Dev was used. Furthermore, I don;t know if I have S-On of S-OFF, because I didn't flash my phone. Also, it has come to my understanding that linux is required for that method of HBOOT downgrade. Is there any way I can avoid that? It's kind of a lot of trouble.
You can check if you're s-on or s-off by looking at the top of the hboot screen. Pull the batt, put it back in, hold vol down + power.
If you don't have s-off, the downgrade is easy, linux is easy. After the downgrade you have to use revolutionary.io to achieve s-off and it'll likely screw up your boost flash. I'll edit with a thread link for prepping to downgrade with a carrier flashed phone.

Hboot says I have S-ON. By following the steps in that link you'll give, will I be able to restore my flash without losing MMS and 3G, etc.?
I'm really not sure, I've never flashed a phone. If you don't mind me asking, why do you want s-off? It's nice to have because it makes flashing roms easier but its not required to flash roms, and if your not sure you can flash your phone back, its probably not worth the risk.

Well the whole idea is that i need to downgrade HBOOT in order to root, and I was under the impression that to downgrade Hboot i needed to have S-OFF.
No, you just need to unlock at htcdev. Then you can root, give me a sec and ill give you another link. Once you think you can flash your phone to boost, I suggest getting s-off. Just less issues with s-off flashing.
Edit... A lot of guides out there, check the roll up sticky thread. This one will probably work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821

THank man, i wish i could click thanks a thousand times. I'll try this method and see what i get.
Any time.. btw, you might be able to do the wire trick to get s-off without messing up the flash. It's in the dev section, called something like junoputabear s-off. Ask in that thread, maybe someone will know.

I got root, and recovery but for some reason the fastboot method wher you extrtact the boot.img and use fastboot to load recovery doesn't work for ICS roms, they bootloop. I found a working Gingerbread rom and I like it. Only issue is i wanted an ICS app. Btw, which gapps should I flash for 2.3.4?

From what I remember, if you boot a recovery from fastboot (fastboot boot recovery.img), you wouldn't need to extract any boot image. When you boot a recovery from fastboot, you'll be able to write to the boot partition, so all you need to do is flash the rom and it should work. With that said, I've read a lot of times that flashing ics roms with s-on will cause bootloops. I've never seen that personally, I was s-off before ics came along.

You probably know this but ill say it just incase. You only flash gapps on aosp roms. I think all the ics gapps say ics in the name, and most of the time gapps for any rom are linked in the same thread as the rom.
Look at your pm in a little bit. I'm gonna send you some stuff that'll help you figure out how to correctly flash a phone so that you can s-off without worry. I can't really post it here.

Hi,
I already had an unlocked bootloader but I installed a ROM that updated my HBOOT to 1.58 LOCKED. Now I was trying to wipe that with a super wipe and now I'm stuck being unable to get to the recovery (it just brings me back to the bootloader) and my normal start up is stuck at the HTC logo. Can anybody tell me what I should do? What direction I should go into fixing this? I already had s-off from before.
Thank you.

You probably don't have recovery. There are many threads on "how to install recovery"..Also, you have this: (It works on both CDMA - which you have, I suppose, and GSM)
Also, you have some interesting stuff HERE
What pro said. Also, if you're s-off, the locked bootloader doesn't matter. If you have trouble after trying to flash a recovery, you could also run the ruu.exe to reset everything back to stock (you'll stay s-off) and then flash a new hboot and recovery and then custom ROM. I did that recently and it fixed my issues.
Thanks for the fast replies both of you. That's really interesting situation because I know I had recovery before. You think I should still go for it?
EDIT: Looking at that video it looks like its installing an app, my phone won't get past booting up. Basically all I got is my HBOOT. I'm going to try what coal suggested.
What Coal told me to do worked, I'm back into stock and it boots up fine now. I'm going to try to get a new hboot and recovery now.
I was able to get down to 1.4 HBOOT again and flashed a CM10 ROM. Thanks for your help guys, you lead me in the right direction
You are welcome..

You would just have flashed another recovery using a PG86IMG.zip. or fastboot ..

The "LOCKED" or "RELOCKED" status matters if you are trying to flash boot, recovery partitions etc using fastboot.

I agree that it matters, but you can gain access to those fastboot commands if you are S-OFF by flashing a custom recovery such as JBear, Revolutionary, or the engineering (ENG) bootloader, at least on the CDMA model of the Evo 3D/V. I highly recommend that over unlocking the bootloader since having a locked hboot makes it much easier to return to 100% stock. Not so much with relocked since the only way to get rid of that status is to set S-ON and do the wire tick.

I am assuming you are trying to gain s-off correct? If that's the case perhaps I can offer you a different solution. With this solution you won't have to downgrade your hboot. Here's a link to this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743466
Now before you attempt it you must have the prerequisites met:
Unlocked via HTC Dev method
On stock ROM
Have superuser root
A PC windows or Linux
Insulated wire (speaker wire, or a paperclip wrapped with electrical tape is good enough)
Make sure HTC sync and or iTunes are uninstalled so they won't interfere
You will follow method D on the guide for those who are on 1.53
Follow the directions step by step. Make sure you download the appropriate control bear based on what os, phone, and computer you are using.
Make sure you know what contact areas you need to touch. This is the wire trick BTW.
When you have everything set up run the exe file and when it prompts you. Touch both contacts at the same time.
It might take a few tries but it should work.

Unlocked via HTC Dev method: unlocked
On stock ROM: I would need a RUU correct? I downloaded one but the image version was lower than mine ( mine image version: 3.28.401.1 )
Have superuser root: i have
A PC windows or Linux : windows 7
Insulated wire (speaker wire, or a paperclip wrapped with electrical tape is good enough): sorii my englisch aint that good a picture would help
Make sure HTC sync and or iTunes are uninstalled so they won't interfere: never had HTC sync or Itunes
No you don't need a ruu if your already on stock. Your all good to go. There should be a picture of where to touch the contacts and a video if I'm not mistaken in unlimited.io's page where you find the evo 3d.

OK once you get the file. Remember to relock your boot loader first before flashing your ruu.
1. Power down you phone and put it in fast boot
2. Make sure USB debugging is enabled
3. Hook your phone up to your PC
4. Run cmd and type fastboot oem lock.
5. If the file is an exe you can run it on your PC after relocking.
6. If not place it on root of sdcard and rename it too PG86IMG in all caps
7. Boot into boot loader and let your phone pick up the update
8. Start and let the update finish
9. Unlock bootloader again
10. Flash recovery
11. Flash super user
Presto!! Now your ready to run wire trick. Good luck.

Nope. Its not necessary anymore. You've been set free kinda like the matrix lol. You can upgrade and downgrade your hboot with no hassles. Flash any gsm evo 3d rom you want. With the exception of cool sense you can be whatever hboot you want and on any sense or aosp ROM you want. Just remember to be on 1.49 to flash aosp roms.
Please don't forget to abuse my thank you button. I'm glad you got s-off. Happy flashing sir.
Edit: viper 3d is the only ROM I know that can be on any hboot. However I am not sure about the other ROMs. I'm CDMA so have no clue about gsm roms. I would make sure to know what hboots are compatible with whatever ROM your interested in before flashing. Sorry about yje confusion.
You should be ok to flash any rom in the gsm threads without any issues with hboot 1.49, I'm gsm with hboot 1.49, unlocked through revolutionary and s-off, I have yet to find a rom that will not boot ics 3.6,ics 4,ics 4.1, and jb

First of all, you must be on stock rom. Every sense 3.6 based rom should work. Did you run ControlBear as administrator?
If you did, run murder.bat from the attached .rar as administrator, wait till it's done. Try again. Still not working? Extract all the files from the rar to a folder. Run controlbear from there (run as admin). Give me feedback if it worked!
Edit: I have to upload the file somewhere else, it's over 8 mb so cant upload here.
Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-fWg2dqIcnRT0xSZUdnVFRHeVk/edit?usp=sharing
Also It's a good idea to disable antivirus. I always do it as a precaution so I don't screw up anything.
If you need to know, the bat file searces for processes that may be interfering with controlbear and kills them.
Also none of this is my work, so all the thanks go to unlimited team.

Thanks for your reply, how can I go to stock ICS? Which RUU I must pick to flash? I'm from Greece. (GSM Model)
If I keep a Nandroid, can I restore it after s-off with wiping the stock rom? Or I must start from the begining?
Well, in theory any sense 3.6 based roms should work. Not sure about mwakiousrom though. To go completely stock you must flash a ruu as far as im concerned. Just download the appropriate ics RUU. Link
Since you are s on, lock bootloader with"fastboot oem lock". Run RUU. It will take a long time to finish. After that you must unlock bootloader from htcdev. Flash recovery. And finally, do the wire trick. After wire trick flash hboot 1.49. Link. You need to format all partitions except sd card after hboot change.
You can get the correct Europe ICS RUU from here -> http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/sec...00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed.exe

I will do it with revolutionary because I know how revolutionary works (old Desire Z user ) but I need to downgrade hboot. In theory can I get a nandroid and restore after all this? Or the rom should be unstable?
You can restore stuff from a nandroid using this app
It restores apps/data, wifi settings, sms etc. It will require you to have a rooted rom. So in theory after you have done the wire trick you can flash a rooted rom and restore important stuff with this app

Another backup option
And just a reminder, wire trick sometimes corrupts sdcards. so save your backups before doing wire trick
Oh, your on hboot 1.49? Revolutionary tools needs 1.49 afaik. If so, get the gb RUU.

I'm downloading the GB RUU, I think...
Code:
RUU_Shooter_U_HTC_Europe_1.20.401.2_Radio_10.53.9020.00_10.13.9020.08_2M_release_203403_signed.exe
is that right?
and one last thing, I think my mobile is vodafone branded, CID VODAP102.
then you should flash a vodafone ruu. And what hboot do you have? you cant run a GB ruu on a phone with the ics bootloader(1.53)

Gosh. Maybe there is a way, but i am not aware of it. It is certainly a lot more easier to do the wire trick.

Then I'm going to make the wire trick, just hoping the ics ruu will work to get stock back. How much fool am I?
EDIT: The
Code:
RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed
RUU doesn't work, It reads the software info, I press start and nothing happens to my phone.
I have a HTC Rezound that in unlocked, and has Niles Business ICS on it. I can lock it, but it won't boot after. It will not let me flash the ROM to Vigor. It says the hboot failed. (can't remember the exact error).
I am unlocked S-ON with HBOOT 2.28.0000
radio 2.23.10.0123r/2.23.10.124r
can it be restored back? i hear the hboot version is the issue, but not entirely sure. some of the posts i read were old.
i am locking it, flashing the boot img and it fails. i leave it unlocked and try to flash boot img and it still fails.

You will need to obtain S-OFF status before you can go backwards. When I did mine I was on CM rom so I know that works, it needs to be booting to use rumrunner also. Try flashing CM then flash the boot.img in fastboot and get it booting then try rumrunner to get S-OFF. After that you can go back to stock using the guide on here. The instructions are easy to follow and with my limited knowledge I was able to do it so I have no doubt anyone can. Oh, you need to be unlocked to flash kernel in fastboot.

once you get S-OFF use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509770
Your thinking into it too much, there is no way to return to stock unless S-OFF is achieved, and it must be bootable with a unsecure kernel to do that.
If you locked on a non-stock recovery, this will softbrick... in some cases if you had an engineered hboot, it can hard brick, but I don't think this is the case.
The quick fix is simple, unlock again, flash a stock-ish ROM (like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260154) or known good ROM like Tachyon... REMEMBER that when flashing S-ON, you MUST flash the boot.img seperately via Fastboot.
If you can't get to recovery, you can always boot it by pushing the img in fastboot mode and wipe/flash from there.

I'll give this a whirl. I have to have it back to stock and locked for Work purposes. their email security servers do not allowed rooted phones.

Cool, there are loads of instructions on here for doing this and it is pretty straight forward. I did it a while back for my daughters phone and it worked flawlessly. Just read and then re-read the instructions and you should have no problems. Let us know how it works out and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, someone will be able to help.
