[Q] Impossible Boot loader unlock? - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

So bit of a newb here... Just got the Droid Incredible 4G LTE (Fireball) as a gift, and I have literally dedicated at least 8 hours of my life sifting through forums trying to figure out the boot loader unlock on this phone..
And I feel like I have tried everything... Unlock through HTCDev Website is no longer a viable option, the One site that has a viable unlock is for HBoot 1.15 and my phone is sitting on 1.02... Which means I can't use their package to my best knowledge... Can I revert my Hboot to the older version without unlocking? I'm pretty sure this isn't this even a viable option because I haven't seen anyone else talk about it so I am guessing not..
http://unlimited.io/fireball.htm
When I go to temproot the phone via Team Fireballas, I just run into an infinite loop on a script that seems to be working for a majority of people and all the sifting I did over last night ran me into no one with a clear answer besides sometimes at best it works and others it doesn't.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986346
I have Windows 7 64 Bit, I have the Android SDK and PATH set up according to the wiki linked, Factory Restore each time I try to run the script and that's been about 20 times now My device shows up under 'adb devices' but as soon as I hit:
adb shell "while ! ln -s /data/local.prop /data/data/com.android.settings/a/file99; do :; done"
It's all infinite looping down the rabbit hole from there... automated script does not give me any success either..
The next option was trying to flash some of the RUU components like Hboot but I don't feel comfortable trying that or even that it will work.... Not getting a brick out of this piece.... and on the other hand its probably not possible without the unlock...
Any help would be greatly appreciated... I've spent a lot of time on this....

At that line you will get infinite errors. After typing the command accept the restore on your phone. You should be good to go. Just ignore the errors on your computer.

Since you are on hboot 1.02, I suggest running the latest RUU.exe to upgrade your phone to 1.15. After that, follow the DirtyRacun on unlimited.io. The process should go nice and smooth once you have upgraded to 1.15 via the RUU. There is a link somewhere on these forums to the latest RUU...

On the next step it says to check whether you have been granted permissions with "#" or "$" and every time I have received "$"

[Q] Upgrading to Honeycomb and STUCK!

I followed the article written by Paul O;Brien and am stuck at the point after I type:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
The Flyer boots with the option to Unlock (Yes) or Not Unlock (No) and when I try to choose Yes and hit the Power button, nothing happens. I can only choose NO.
Needless to say, the rest of the steps I can't follow....
Upon reboot, I get the Fastboot menu and it says
*** LOCKED ***
*** Security Warning ***

Thanks for any help! My device is well, pretty bricked!
were you s-off before?
I would go through the entire HTCDev boot unlock step by step
Hey I had same problem.
I tried to unlock bootloader with htcdev again and again and again....
And suddenly I could choose 'yes' but I don't know how did I do that.
So... my advice is 'try to unlock again and again' ...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
P.S. I tried whole unlock step about 20 times...
What was the problem? I didn't anything else, except follow stpes in htcdev and suddenly the problem was solved. It's so mysterious...hmm

Why does this whole process seem soooo much more complicated then when I used to do ROM's on my Windows Mobile phones?
Really? Trying it again and again and again???? Would yo do it with the same bin file or create a new one? I tried creating a couple new ones as well. Man, that's ugly. I had fgured I got impatient when it was creating hecode for the htcdev site and redid it.
So, should I go with the original bin file or the last one I made. Yes, each time, the code was different... :-/
Y'all are aweome in not making me feel insane! +1 to each of you! Lol!
So I have tried it about 15 times and it is still not working.....This is so frustrating! I can't go back...maybe I am jst ired an the throght of making a godcard is wigging me out....Would prefer honeycomb.
a Question
I just have to ask this to be sure, You are using the mark/copy method to get your device id for the HTC dev unlock correct. also are you sure that all the information is there (nothing extra/changed/missing).
Cheers
BR
Yes, I am copying it correct. I compare what is in the command prompt versus what I paste in the form submission.....Is it because I am running the Best Buy WiFi version....? I am so hosed because there is no RUU for this version! Arugh!
Thank you so much for any pointers. I have noticed that a number of people had the same problem but didn't post their solutions.....So, I would be more than ecstatic to find out what was done! Thanks again!
I has bestbuy wifi flyer too.
I guess the problem is with only bestbuy wifi flyer...
But I'm sorry to help you

Usually, flashing a new ROM on an Android device is very simple: just load the ROM to your SD card and flash from bootloader. You have to be S-Off and rooted beforehand. But this is a one-time thing and not any harder (with Revolutionary, actually easier) than Hard-SPL on Windows Mobile phones.
The HC upgrade is a special case. From the Modaco guide thread (linked in the Development forum):
If you're wondering 'why so many steps and why don't we just run the ruu'? There are 2 main reasons - firstly is the fact that you need s-off, which is generally the revolutionary bootloader, which protects itself from being overwritten - a problem as the new bootloader is necessary for HC. The second reason is that flashing RUU or rom.zip updates your misc partition version tag, which can seriously limit your options should something go wrong and / or you need to roll back to Gingerbread.
I actually haven't tried the HC upgrade myself. The complexity of the process is indeed intimidating, and reverting to GB is not that easy, either. And apparently there is no RUU for my version of the Flyer (US WiFi-only), so going back to GB is actually impossible. I will probably wait for the official update.
Yep, agreed, ROMS are easy with Android. Done them a million times on Flyer, Evo and Evo 3D....actually probably easier than on my HTC Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2 that both ran Windows.
But this Honeycomb is the beast! Man, I am half tempted to buy another one at Best Buy and wait til they update to Honeycomb! GRRR!
On the phone with HTC and Tech Support has no news on upgrading the Flyer to Honeycomb... I am wondering if it will be canned because it is too hard? Flyer will be Gingerbread - officially, I am suspecting.
It's not related to the BestBuy version. I have done it several times with that version and never had an issues.
Let's try something just to see what happens. It should not have any effect but I am curious and it won't hurt at this point.
Get into the bootloader either through using Power+Vol Down or 'adb reboot bootloader'.
Now at the CMD command prompt of your computer and type 'fastboot oem lock'.
If your Flyer show a *** RELOCKED *** means the operation is successful. I'm just wondering if its in a kind of unknown state.
Now then redo the unlock process again ans see what happens.

I tried that and it still says locked...no change. I will be sending it to HTC to see if they can fix it. I groan with what they will reply....
one more thing...
did you try redoing steps 9-12 ? If so what happens?
Solved...
Well, I sent it in to HTC and they repaired it for free. Took a total of a week. I assume they just completely re-imaged it.
I also had a problem with the pen button always glowing red prior to any rooting or trying to upgrade to Honeycomb and it seems they fixed that as well.
It's the first time I had defective HTC gear. But, they were very professional and fixed it up fast and well.
Thanks for all your help. I think I will be sticking to Gingerbread until an official Honeycomb is released. I hope it is soon because the apps I really need are on Honeycomb!
I have the bigger brother - the Jetstream and yes, the magic pen on the Jetstream is AWESOME. The form factor of the Flyer is just so convenient for the handbag or whatnot.

Best way to get current radios on s-on rooted rezound

OK, so I bought the Rezound used and already rooted, I have just flashed viper 1.0.3 but my radios dont match up with the latest ones and I'm not sure if that might help battery life. The phone has AmonRu, sorry if this is covered somewhere... I searched and didnt come up with anything
also current baseband version is 1.22.10.0310r, 1.22.10.0308r
u didn't search well enough cause you're new. learn to search better before you get flamed and ignored. if you knew anything about Android you'd know that only the latest ruu could upgrade your radios since you're s-on
yes run a RUU

It's just different from other androids (D1, D2) and even the other HTC's I've had (Incredible and Thunderbolt). So, I'd need to flash the latest RUU to get the radios, but can i do that with the amon recovery ? And if so, does the latest RUU break root? Like I said the guy I bought it from rooted it, he said he used htc dev tool to root it.

You should do a little research before you attempt anything. Basically, you'll need to relock the boot loader using htcdev tool which is simple to do if you follow directions. Then you'll download the latest RUU and place it on the root of your SD card and then boot into the boot loader by powering the phone down and holding vol down and power. Then it will prompt for the update-choose yes. Once update is done you'll be completely stock and you'll need to unlock again with htcdev and install a custom recovery again. After that you can root again and flash ROMs. Sounds complicated, but if you plan to tinker with this phone these are MUST LEARN procedures.

Yeah, I could feel the love so much I got goosebumps. One question is will I have any problems relocking the bootloader with viper rom installed or do i need to relock and immediately flash the img.zip for the ruu ?
Why wouldn't you just run the S-Off and not have to worry about things like this? I just find it amazing that people will go through the headache of unlocking their bootloader but not do the S-Off routine.

It's still fairly easy. Once I got the right kind of wire (speaker wire instead of a paperclip), it literally took just a few minutes to complete it. Got the timing right on the first try with the right wire.
And like Ashton said, you can return to S-On.
Yeah, s-off is truly easy. I know it seems intimidating and complicated, but 95% of the process is automated scripts. Once again, if you follow directions and take your time, its easy. I was surprised at how easy it was once I've completed it. Now I've done the process 5+ times and it takes less than 3 minutes from start to finish.

Make your the RUU is a zip and name it PH98IMG. S-OFF seems complicated, but it's not all you have to do is make sure you are rooted and have dev unlocked your phone run ControlBear and do the wire trick when told to. If you fail just leave the phone alone and close/open ControlBear again and keep trying.

I will say it was a giant pain in the ass for me. I followed the timing and was pretty careful about it but it just didn't work. I was using a paperclip (uninsulated) so maybe that's why, but I eventually just spammed the other terminal and one of those times it took. haha

I got it to almost work only once with a paperclip. It failed at the end though (gave still sober message). After about 20-30 minutes of fiddling with it... I got sick of it. Took off one of the wires from my home theatre (18 guage probably, and ~25 ft lol), and used that. Worked the first try lol.. So yeah, been recommending actual wire rather than paperclips if possible.

[Q] HELP! I can't figure out how to get back to a stock ROM!

I should never have flashed my Evo 3D. I had no experience, but a buddy of mine talked me into it. It worked fine for a good while, but now...it just reboots itself randomly, and then freezes during the boot screen. I have to pull the battery to reset. I also can't use TONS of apps that I'd really like to have. Smart Glass, My Xbox 360, Bad Piggies, etc...
Anyway, I don't even know what H-Boot is, or what version I'm on. This is all the info I have...
Android Version: 2,3,4
HTC Sense Version: 3.0
Software Number: 2.08.651.2
MOD Version: InfectedROM_Synergy-3dvo_RLS-1 (NIGHTLY)
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.13-ck3+
All I want to do is go back to a stock Sprint ROM. I'd like to get the latest OTA if possible. I tried that as well, but it just searches forever. I let it go overnight once, and woke up 9 hrs later, and the thingy was still spinning.
Anyway... Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED! This thing is driving me crazy. I'll be getting a Note II soon, but I can't take this ROM anymore,
-B
EDIT: Almost forgot... It isn't that I haven't tried anything. I grabbed a Stock ROM off of PPCGeeks, and connected my 3vo to my laptop. I ran the .exe, but it said it failed. I also got a different ROM, put it on the ROOT of my SD Card, navigated to the .zip in Recovery, and initiated a flash. Every attempt ended with the phone rebooting with the same old Synergy ROM. Once booted, I got a bunch of pop-up messages saying that various programs weren't able to run, or something like that. However, these programs included Sense, Phone, etc...

Follow this guide through Step1 and you will be 100% stock on the current Sprint ICS ROM. If any of the apps you want to run require root then you can complete Step2 as well. Since Step3 is for gaining S-OFF I doubt that you would need to do that in your situation.

THANKS! I'll give it a shot, and report back. I REALLY appreciate the help, good sir.
UPDATE: Yup...this is exactly what I did last night. All that happens is that it tells me it failed, and then reboots back to how it was. I just read a troubleshooting section, and it says to check if the bootloader is unlocked, and that if it is (via HTCDev) that it will stop this method from working. I'm pretty sure this is what's messing this up for me. However, they give no explanation as to how someone can change this. I don't even know where to look to make sure it's locked...

He won't be able to take OTA updates from sprint if he don't relock.
@op
You need to download the rootevo3dnew.zip attached in the link you posted above. Then extract it somewhere. If you are using win xp open cmd and navigate to that folder in cmd. If you are using newer version of windows then hold shift and right click the folder which you just extracted and click "open command window here." and then connect phone in fastboot mode and type the "fastboot oem lock". Then reboot the bootloader, you will re locked instead of unlocked at the top. Now you can run the ruu.
Or hit me up on gtalk when you have 20-30 mins time, i will guide you.

[Q] Unrooted, unlocked S-on but can't get custom ROM

So, I have gone through the whole process of rooting my phone, unlocking it. I have TWRP on it, Titanium backup (thankfully), Goo Manager. It is S-on. I have 2.09 Hboot. My TWRP-jewel is 2.5.0.0. Ok, now onto my question, I am trying to get CM-10 to load but it doesn't go any further than the load screen. No matter what I try. I have even tried switching to JellyBAM but all to no avail. Can someone offer me tips as to what I may have done or be doing wrong? Thanks in advance
[Q] trying to put CM10 on my rooted phone
Forgive me if I put this in the wrong group, but I feel this is probably the right one for it. I have Hboot 2.09. I have TWRP. I have S-on. I want to put CM10 with Gapps onto my phone but every way I have tried, CM10 just sits there and loops around, the longest being an hour. I figured some time was possible, but come on. Over on Google+, people are telling me to flash this and flash that, fastboot this or that. I have no idea what they are trying to say to me. I am loving learning all of this but I need a little more explanation than just flash something. I realize that flash has something to do with commands. I am running windows 8 if that helps on my laptop. My TWRP version is 2.5.0.0. I don't know if my phone has gone through the latest update or not. Thanks for any help you can give me!
You have to install the kernel separately from the ROM since you're S-on. Click the link in my sig for more info.
You most likely have the newest touch panel driver, so you can only use ROM's based off the latest OTA, software version 3.16. Your touchscreen won't work otherwise. You can gain S-off and downgrade your touch panel driver, at which point you can run AOSP ROM's like CM.

I am running windows 8 if that helps on my laptop. My TWRP version is 2.5.0.0. I don't know if my phone has gone through the latest update or not. Thanks for any help you can give me!

First of all you might be on the newest touch panel driver, and that's the first thing that gets you in trouble because aosp roms don't work with that, as of now, it might work later... Who knows... Secondly you need to flash the boot.img separately thru fastboot because your are s-on and on 2.09... To make your life easier try to get s-off either thru facepalm or dirty racun... That way you can flash any rom and also downgrade your touch panel driver to get aosp working on your phone... If you flash viper rom it has a senseless option so you can use nova and get stability and some sort of aosp look... Good luck!

Yes, S-off is the way to go if you want to run CM. Otherwise, try meanbean or viper or sharkie or any other sense based Rom. They should work fine.

I have tried to do facepalm. When I put the code in (I'm assuming it goes in the command window), I get messages like "adb not valid command". Even though my phone is most definitely rooted, says unlocked. Should I redownload android-sdk? Thanks again!

ADB commands must be issued when the phone is mounted as media share not as fastboot. Connect your phone as if you were transferring files between it and your pc.
Something new to try since you're on the latest OTA.

I do have it connected to the computer like that. Do you mean I have to go into TWRP and mount it that way? I tried it that way too. I downloaded and whole new android SDK to see if that is the problem. If not, I am going to factory reset my phone and start over. I can't imagine why I was able to root the phone, get it unlocked, but now I can't do anything else with it. Not even get adb commands to recognize it.

This is for tabidee hey I was reading ur stuff on xda developers and I have a question. If u can help if not its cool. Ok so i got my sprint evo and I went to try to root it. I went thru a process that with the steps combined with htcdev site got me to say unlock my bootloader. I used hoot 2.09 and I was supposed to flash this pimg175 zip to i guess install a recovery. Well that won't work at all... I cant get my s on switched to s off and so i am stuck with according to the hoot screen a tampered, unlocked with s on, unrooted phone. I am so confused with all the steps and files I had to download, rename and save to various folders that I gave up. With my phone at its current state what do I do next? I deleted all the files from the day I unlocked it but if you can explain to me... And explain like if I was a five year old cuz I'm that dumbfounded on this subject... But if u can maybe walk me thru the rest of the process or walk me thru a undoing of what I done so far. I'm lisa. My email is [email protected]
Check out the link below. It's a GUI for rooting and has everything you need to get your phone rooted. You'll need to install the recovery first then superuser, which will give you root.

You're rooted. Run RUU tool to unroot and go back to complete stock. TWRP is the recovery menu and the gateway to flashing new roms and kernels etc.

Okay so i downloaded and unzipped, The instructions on the thread are very vague
So I think i need to use a backdoor or something cause I can't get my phone to boot into android
Quote:
Q: But what if I can't get into Android?? Surely there is something I can do!?
A: Yes, I designed a "backdoor" to allow you into VipeRUU. However, BE CAREFUL! This skips important checks that VipeRUU does when it start (most importantly, if your phone really is an EVO 4G LTE!) but it will allow you to do this procedure from the bootloader. All you have to do is create a text file in the "files" folder called "bypass.txt" and then start the program. You'll be alerted with a few warnings when doing this.
Also do I need to have the phone plugged into the computer or something. I am so sorry but I am very lost

I've never done this process myself, but I'll do my best to help you.
First: reboot into your bootloader, Hold down power key with volume down key until it reboots into the screen where you listed all that information. It should have a white bacground.
Second: Naviagte to fastboot and hit the pwoerkey
Third: Connect computer to phone with usb
Fourth: create a blank bypass.txt file and place into the file named "file" from the zip you downloaded.
Fifth: Run ViperRUU and select whichever option you need.

Are you running windows? Open up a command prompt and try to get su access through fastboot. You may not have high enough privleges. Also, do you have HTC drivers installed? Once you're inside the fastboot menu, don't touch anything. The reading on the top should say "Fastboot USB"

Here is the link to the latest RUU I wouldn't mess with VipeRUU if you are not sure what you are doing.

Do what BD619 says. I had hoped ViperRUU would work, but the stock HTC one is much easier to use and operate. Also I usually use Ubuntu in these situations due to how much easier it is to work things in Terminal than it is to use Window's command prompt. Just a thought in case you ever need to do something fastboot related in the future.

VipeRUU will work fine but he's still new this kind of stuff it can be confusing. It took me a couple tries to get it to work the first time I used it.

No matter what it's a bad sign if you need to RUU. Definitely something I never want to do. Means something major screwed up lol. Yeah I was gonna give him the regular HTC one until I read all the paranoid stuff the ViperRUU posted in his thread.
