[Q] Flashing Stock Recovery? - HTC One X+

Hi all,
I just downloaded an OTA update but was not able to install it as I'm rooted with custom recovery. I've read that I can restore by running the correct RUU but I cannot find one for my region (HK CHT, 1.14.708.16). Is there another way to get the stock recovery and be able to do OTA updates?

I have asked some big names for this recovery.
I asked for it in another thread called, and someone posted it, but he was talking **** so I don't know if he was being genuine.
This is his post:

Please note your question at the top is wrong. The device does charge while off. It has an issue coming on from a dead battery
I will upload stock at&t recovery and edit this post with a link shortly.
**EDIT** Stock Recovery (FOR AT&T ONLY, IF YOU ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO FLASH IT ON THE INTERNATIONAL YOU DESERVE WHAT EVER COMES) can be found here: https://www.asuswebstorage.com/navigate/s/665115AABBFA49E783795815A6E5666F4

So download that, flash it, see if it works.

I flashed it and it reset my internal storage!
After flashing it I went into recovery to just check if TWRP was installed or not, and it went into recovery. I had to hold down the power to shut it off. It rebooted back into recover, I repeated to hold down the buttons and now I lost everything. Mind you I am using a stock rom, I just flashed TWRP so I could root the device. Could someone else verify this?
Edit: Supersu was still installed, This is a better situation however than bricking the phone due to not charging.
Thanks.

Stop showing people my link to a recovery when they are talking about OTA updates as to my knowledge AT&T has not released one which means they are not using the AT&T branded phone. This advice is dangerous, may break their phone. There are two different hardware versions of the phone as well as the carrier differences. You are not helping by doing this.
If flashing the recovery reset your data you did something wrong. That should not happen and has not happen the 12 times I have flashed it. Are you positive you are on the AT&T hardware version and did not hit factory reset while in hboot?

I replied in the other thread. IT IS possible I inadvertently hit factory reset while in Hboot as I had some trouble with it hanging in recovery (now that I think about it I may have held the vol down to long and then hit the power button without even realizing it). If this is the case then please disregard. And YES I am NOT using an int'l hox+ , and I have been flashing android devices (mostly Samsung) since the Magic. I have just not owned an HTC device in a long time so I am re-learning fastboot etc... Thanks for the factory recovery

Thanks for all the input guys. Hopefully someone will have one for non att hox+

If you have an international device any recovery from any international RUU will work on your device. Try extracting the recovery.img from a RUU rom.zip. or check dev section, im sure mike posted a stock recovery with his CWM. Finally check if the AIO root toolkit contains a stock recovery

Calm down there is 0.00001% chance of bricking a phone by flashing the wrong recovery.

Right now I think still no way to extract the img file from RUU (ROM.zip) yet.
And I still waiting WWW ASIA for 1.17.707.1 RUU, so long time waiting for it....

HOX+ Boot Loop

Hi All,
I've tried searching but to no avail. I got an HOX+ from ATT today and was excited to root it I got through rooting it no problem. But then I installed ClockworkMod Recovery. Now the phone wont boot at all. I can get in to fast boot and recovery. But it says no SD Card exists when I try to access the SD card. Other then that I get nothing but the HTC Logo. If anyone could help it would be great! At this point I wouldn't mind going back to stock.
More than likely you flashed a non-ATT recovery since there is not one out now for ATT. I did the same and swapped out this afternoon rather than wait for a HTC release.

Ok but that doesn't explain how you rooted with no custom recovery for AT&T available, in other words how did you flash SU zip? I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to know the answer to this question I'd be greatly appreciative to know how it was done so I can root the stock and be done with it for while until the kinks get worked out. **** I seen they started a thread to donate for a Dev to get the international HOX+ why was'nt an AT&T donate thread started so we can buy a dev one too? I'll chip in and I'm sure many others will too.

All I did was unlock the phone. Not sure of I got root or what. I just followed the instructions in the all in one. Phone asked me if I really wanted to unlock it I said yes. Then I tired flashing Clockwork. Based on all the reading I've done I'm almost positive I didn't root it. Just screwed my phone up. Going to have to go to ATT tomm and see what can be done.

He means he took it to AT&T and said it died on him so they gave him a new one. I did the same thing. As of right now, there is no RUU (ROM Update Utility) provided by AT&T. I emailed HTC and they said that they no-longer choose when that gets uploaded and it usually takes about 10 days for the approval process and upload of the RUU. It's up to AT&T so you could be waiting a while for it.

He never got that far. He flashed recovery and the phone never booted up because it can't mount the filesystem. Same issue as everyone else with an AT&T HOX+

You don't need to donate a AT&T one x. The devices are really not that different. Lloir with the one x we donated will be able to do everything he does for us for you at&t boys. If anything you guys should be grateful we donated one so you don't have to. Back on topic, you don't need a RUU, just the stock AT&T boot.img. Flash that and device will boot again.

Oh I'm not ungrateful at all I just wish a dev had an AT&T HOX+ because it would be easier to figure out a way to get the SU binaries on the phone to gain root, just wishful thinking i guess.

[Q] Amaze boot loop please help!

Hi,
I have factory unlocked htc amaze, s-on. i've unlocked its bootloader and uses 4EXT recovery. i had GB before and never had ICS on it.
I flashed CM10 rom and for some reason it's stuck on boot loop and i can't get it out of it. i tried to reflash it couple of times but nothing helps.
it comes up and if i'm not touching anything (and it's on lock screen stat) it can last and not reboot. however, when i open the lock screen in about 5 sec it reboots itslef.
anyone has an idea what could be the issue and how to resolve it?
If you scroll down in Q&A you find answers. But it looks to me you have to restore from back up relock & flash an ruu to whatever flag ship your phone is on then ota ics then reunlock the phone. Use the search button trust me it helps alot.
thanks, I will.
I've just tried putting the official ICS , rename it PH85IMG.zip and let the phone do the work. i hope this will resolve the issue.
but should i re-lock the bootloader for it to work?

Lol for some reason it's stuck on boot loop. The reason was u didnt read.
Put the ph85img.zip on root of SD card. RELOCK BOOTLOADER. This should bring u back to a relocked bootloader. Flash the ph85img.zip from bootloader and u will be fine. Next time read thoroughly so your first 2 posts on XDA aren't as embarrassing like the guy above me said... There r threads everywhere about this

indeed i wasn't reading thoroughly and thanks a lot for your help however, i did tried what you said and it says model id is incorrect and the update failed. what could be the reason? is the file itself incorrect? I downloaded the file version for T-Mobile as i don't know which carrier is this. i bought the phone in US but not from one of the carriers and it doesn't have any brand on it.
do you think i should try a different ics version?

It won't flash because the ruu checks your CID and if your cid isn't in that carriers ruu then it won't let it work. I wonder if you open the ph85img.zip on your computer and added your cid to it if it would work. Not saying to do that cuz idk if it will or not lol. Try all the other ruu and see if any woork
You will most likely have to s-off and then superCID before u will be able to flash any of the ruu's, but start off by finding out what your CID is by downloading the file I attached and extract that zip on your computer. Now boot your phone into bootloader, then select fastboot.. now connect phone via USB to computer and then open the cid.bat file inside the CID folder. Once its done running, a file should appear in the CID folder called cidnumber.log or somethin like that. Post here what it says

What I would do , not forcing you to do this, is to S-Off and change my CID to Super. Then flash a different carrieres ICS RUU. That's probably an easier way to get up to ICS speed.

Your best bet is. If you still have that backup, boot into custom recovery and do a full wipe of your phone "System\data\cache\" (Not internal storage).
Then boot into fastboot and flash the boot.img from your backup.
Boot back into recovery and restore your backup. Then flash a stock recovery before you relock bootloader. Make sure you do it before you relock though.

I read on in other forums that updating to the latest version of CWM will also fix the issue, but ROM manager says that the latest model is not compatible with One Max!

There is no 4.4.2 for HTC One Max yet only HTC One which is NOT going to work on your device. Give it a couple more weeks.

Must be International?? According to HTC neither Sprint nor Verizon has been released yet: http://www.htc.com/us/go/htc-software-updates/
If this is the case than sacthegreat is going to need to flash stock rom in order to successfully receive the update.

Yep...his home country is India. Sounds like his biggest prob is the custom recovery he's trying to flash the ota with.
Can't wait for the ota to land stateside

Yeah, that aint gonna fly
Tell me about it... I'm not very excited to see that Sprint has fallen to the bottom of the list!
yup.. .got the OTA for my T6UL today morning. It downloaded alright, but couldn't install. Guess I will revert to stock recovery and check. Need to research now as to how to install stock recovery,
and if that will remove my root or S-off!!

Updating will most assuredly remove your root but it's not a huge deal to re-root. It won't change your s-off. Hopefully you did a full Nandroid before you installed your custom rom, It will only take you a couple steps and a few minutes to get back to where you started. If not you will have to hunt down the stock rom and flash, which shouldn't be all that difficult either. Whichever you end up doing, I would perform a fresh titanium backup of JUST your apps. This way you can get right back to where you are after you update! Good luck
I didn't even know the update was out...

Verizon could be out any day. Sprint probably a few more weeks
I'm not a staff so I have no idea about release date
but HTC just declared the future products and including last year New One series have 2 years update support, I guess US carrier will release it soon, the KitKat now is standing at front of a door, shouting "LET ME OUT!" =P

Ok, so i put in custom recovery, and then tried installing the OTA. A red exclamation came, and after 5 minutes, it rebooted. No other messages nothing! Still at 4.3 only!

you are trying to install the official update via custom recovery? I bet this won't work ( tell me if I'm wrong, new to One max )
find the stock recovery, flash it, then let the phone install it itself.
I met the same error when I using older HTC phones, too.

You need stock recovery for T6UL that you can find in CWM thread.
its so easy to flash it, just in case... fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I suspect the device needs to be LOCKED for the OTA to be applied. That can be done from Scotty's thread or mostly you are already locked.
You can be S-OFF, nothing to worry about.
Try keep OTA keeper or Superuser's keep root option during OTA. - This mostly might not work because the OTA methods have improved on security, however worth a try.
Unlock immediately after OTA and then ROOT and install the SD card read/write MOD
Backup CWM and upload for us
Thank you!

[Q] Flashing International ROMs.

Is it safe to use anything from the international forum to flash on my AT&T M8? Are there any limitations as to what is safe and what is not, or is everything in there safe for use on my model. Coming from the GS3, flashing anything that was not device specific was a nono, so I just want to make sure it is ok. Thanks!

Yes and no. If it's a sense based Rom you should be okay. There is bootloop issues with some roms , this is due to recovery issues and other things. Just don't flash anything that has a radio. Always make a backup and keep a copy on your PC just to be safe.
I'm running insert coin from the international section with no issues.

Thanks for the reply! So if I understand correctly, ROMs = ok; radios = not ok. What about recoveries, and RUUs? I know we don't have RUUs yet, but just curious.

Roms , no harm to try them if you are comfortable with adb, fastboot etc etc. I don't think the RUU is available yet. If you are familiar with Samsung then your probably also familiar with Odin. A RUU comes in a exe package now that is executed from your PC and restores everything back to its original state, well most of the time lol. Just make sure your unlocked and have the latest recovery installed , with that said trial and error is pretty safe if you no how to get yourself out of a sticky situation, not to say you are.

Thanks again, I appreciate all the info. I'm comfortable with adb and all that comes with trial and error. I just wanted to make sure that it was ok to mix and match some of the stuff from the international version. The last thing I want is a brand new brick. Like I said, sammy got me a little nervous about mixing and matching. Back on the Inspire 4G I used to use alot of things from the Desire HD forum. I guess I was just looking for confirmation that the same thing was possible with the M8's.
Also never flash a OTA or any new leak till you see it posted on XDA . You never no with ATT, they can push a OTA, that locks us back down .
This is all common sense. However,my father always used to tell me "common sense ain't common" ;-p I'm not calling you dumb I'm just adding this for anyone that may stumble on this thread. If you have anymore questions ,drop me a PM.

Yeah. I went ahead and unlocked with no intention of updating until we (hopefully) receive s-off. On my S3 they pulled a fast one with the 4.3 ota, witch I never did, or will, accept.
Edit: I always like to say "Nowadays common sense is a effin super power".
