Demented Bean - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any help I can get changing the system font would e greatly appreciated, tried ROM toolbox after trying to load font, the system wouldn't boot.
Thanks in advance...
Dan

The font is built into two different parts of the ROM. In order to change them you will have to manually do this by pulling the font folder from one ROM and replacing it in Demented and reboot. A cache wipe in recovery wouldn't hurt after this change is done. The font in this ROM is the whole purpose of being Demented. That is why I suggested going into the font settings and choosing large. You can always change the DPI also try 160 and in the UI put it in Tablet mode then reboot.

I guess my eyes aren't what they used to be, thanks much for the info.

This is only a AOKP feature and maybe a Paranoid feature. Smoother is a AOSP CM base and is in tablet UI all the time.

Hello Nobe1976, I am a noob. Couple of days back I moved to Smoother Bean 1.5 (from Smoother Bean v 1.4.2) and have few comments on the new ROM
[a] Noticied new ROM v 1.5 does not require further flashing of Boot.Img (whereas v 1.4.2 had Boot.img update to be flashed right after ROM flash)
Old v 1.4.2 ROM was 106mb whereas new v.1.5 ROM is 144mb.
[c] New ROM is faster and smoother (than v 1.4.2). Appreciate your team's efforts
[d] Play Store is now not allowing me to install most (~75%) of my previously used apps (like Mint et al). This hinders to not use the tablet effectively
[e]. Is the issue mentioned on [d] anyway related to build.prop configuration of DPI is set to 160. Already changed DPI to 140 and 120 but in vain. Do I need to change any other property on build.prop? (FYI. Did modify another property from "userdebug" to "user").
[f] Felt the Stock browser is better (for Flash and Unicode support) than Chrome
Any further comments are greatly appreciated

[Q] Make default settings permanent?? and some other

Hello everybody.......
I was already 1 year with my SGA and luv it......
playing with custom rom, kernel, and sometimes do a head to head quadrant battle with my friends......
now, lets just straight to the point right?
i wanna ask, how to "integrate" or make default settings for CM7, I mean.....when I do data+cache wipe, my wallpaper change to default cm7 wallpaper, then how to make my wallpaper doesnt return to default when I do full wipe????well.....not only wallpaper, but latin IME setting, adw customization, etc etc.
and another question.
yesterday, my friend ask me to install cm7 for his xperia x8, and I decided to install miniCM(unofficial CM7.2). after few times comparing, I realize that CM7 for X8 is much better. for example in CM setting===>interface===>statusbar, there's option for centerclock, and scrolling in sub menu is smoother. is this because of update from CM source? or just because X8 have better kernel???
Thanks......any help will apreciated.....
My sister owns a X8. Its awesome. Even better than my Galaxy Ace. I helped her to unlock bootloader, flashed custom kernel and flashed Mini CM7. Furthermore, I overclocked the frequency of the processor until 825MHz. Its now smoother than my Ace!

yeah.....X8 is better.......until accidentialy I do data-cache-system wipe and cant access recovery at all......then I realize that x8 doesnt have recovery partition, the recovery is located on /system/ partition
anyway, back to topic. any thoughts about my 1st question???
I don't know much about cm based roms. In stock the framework-res, SystemUI and Settings apps have "default" wallpapers and settings in their respective /res folders. The default wallpapers only require you to replace the png image, for other settings you need apktool to decompile and edit the required XML files.
It should be similar with cm based roms, you probably have more experience on which app affects the screen you need.

Change DPI on Stock roms

Is it possible to change the DPI on stock or Sammy based roms rooted or is this only possible on CM9 AOSP based roms. I would like to keep a Samsung based rom for all the unique apps Samsung have developed for the S3 but I cant get away with the huge icons and DPI. CM9 based looks so much better so I am torn between the two.
DPI can be changed in the build prop on rooted roms via rom explorer .
Or in a custom rom Samsung build .

dont forget, changing the dpi in sammy roms will have the usual probs like unscaled dialer and a poor theming for camera. setting the dpi too low will crash the stock launcher, so install a secondary launcher before starting

Just tested on my S3 with stock ROM + root and it works. Just as a note, you should have a keyboard other then the standard Samsung, it keeps freezing over and over until you change it to another one.

Hi,
I tried changing /system/build.prop ro.sf.lcd_density to 260, rebooted device and nothing happened.
I am using leaked 4.2.2. I double checked and build.prop really changed.
Can anyone help me with this?

for rooted phones, flash the xposed framework.. there app settings module (i think) enables DPI settings.. (you may need to search for the module..)
I tried to set dpi to 300 and it works very well on sammy 4.3 ML2 rom. Dialer looks weird as mentioned above, but I use pixelphone app and issue is solved for me.

[MOD][Player 5]Tablet Mode for ICS ROMs - New versions[9/8/12]

Tablet Mode for Galaxy Player 5 ICS ROMs - Supermaster34
I consider the galaxy player to be a sort of mini tablet, but so far most of the available roms use a Phone UI. The Phone UI is great, but the user experience can be enhanced with the addition of Tablet Mode. I know tablet mode has been applied to the Player 5 before, but on an old and buggy rom, so I decided to fiddle with a few bits and bobs and I managed to activate Tablet Mode. One of the best things about my MOD is the ability to apply the patch to any ICS rom. There may be a few UI bugs, but everything works as it should
Features:
Tablet Apps can be used
The Status Bar and Navigation Bar combine to form the Combined Bar
Landscape Lockscreen
Full Album Art displayed on Lockscreen
Apex launcher runs very smoothly in tablet mode
Can be applied to any ICS rom (I think)
Installation Instructions
RemICS-UX v1.3.1+:
Install the latest version of RemICS-UX if you don't already have it installed
Flash the RemICS-UX tablet mode zip file in recovery. No need to wipe anything, just flash it
Boot into the rom and download LCD Density Modder (or similar) and set the DPI to 128 or lower, but not below 120, and reboot
Read my Tips for Tablet Mode here
CM9:
Flash a CM9 rom if you do not already have one installed
Boot into recovery and flash the CM9 mod
Boot into the ROM and use LCD Density Changer (or similar) and set the DPI to 128 or below, but not lower than 120 and reboot
Read my Tips for Tablet Mode here
AOKP:
Flash an AOKP rom if you aren't already running one and boot into it.
Go to Settings > ROM Control > Navigation Bar and enable the nav bar.
Reboot into recovery and flash the AOKP mod
Boot into the ROM and go to Settings > ROM Control > General UI > LCD Density and follow the steps.
In step 5, scroll to the bottom on the list and select custom and set the DPI to 128 or less, but not less than 120
Reboot
Read my Tips for Tablet Mode here
Tablet mode can be entered by changing the DPI of the device to 128 or less, but putting it below 120 causes bootloops. I am still testing my mod, but it appears to work on any ICS rom for the player 5. All you have to do is flash the zip file in recovery over the rom you want to apply it to. No wipes required and setting the DPI above 128 returns the player to Phone UI
Tested to work on:
RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Maybe v1.3.0) - Use the RemICS-UX version of the mod
Latest CM9 rom by me - Use the CM9 version of the mod
ICS Crumble v1.6 - Use the AOKP version of the mod
Untested but should work on:
Any CM9 based rom
Any AOKP based rom

Which rom? RemICS-UX or CM9? I tried it just now on RemICS-UX v1.3.1 and it worked. Try turning off HD video or wiping cache and dalvik cache in recovery
the tablet patch doesn't work for remi ics v1.3.1 but it gives a nice theme style to apex launcher : )

It does work for RemICS-UX v1.3.1 but the touchwiz launcher doesn't work so I included apex launcher. Everything else works fine.
The MOD doesn't work perfectly with AOKP roms so I'm currently optimising the MOD for AOKP. Currently the MOD only works perfectly with RemICS-UX because I've modified some files in its system, but once I remake the MOD for stock CM9 and stock AOKP it should work on every rom

it does work yeah but you first need to put the dpi to 128 and have apex as standard launcher.

You can set the DPI to anything between 120 and 128 inclusive. You can also use any launcher which can handle tablet mode. Currently I think Apex handles it the best so that's why I included it in the mod

OK for a short term fix you should move all of your apps on your SD card to the internal storage using titanium backup.
Which ROM did you apply the mod to?
Also are you sure it was caused by this mod? If it was I'll be able to fix it soon

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaah! I didn't even know until you pointed it out to me . Thanks for the tip! I'm planning to see how I can create a unified mod using Aroma installer so you can have one file which you can use to enable tablet mode on the different ICS roms. I'm also trying to fix the string misalignment on some roms. I can't give you an eta on any updates, but I'll try to be as quick as possible. The galaxy player 5 cannot afford to lose any more devs..
Also, first post on the XDA portal about the SGP
Congrats on the portal article, i believe this is the first time for the player.

Yeah, awesome job on making the front page! Now to get our 4.0 ICS thread there...now THAT would be nice .
I've got a Fascinate, but I bought it exclusively to use as a PMP, but I hate all of the phone features it still has. Anyone foresee massive problems arising by using this patch on the original Galaxy S, to effectively convert it to being a Galaxy Player?

[Q] Problems installing Slim ROM

Hello everyone,
I'm having problems installing the Slim ROM. I have an SGS2 I9100.
First let me tell you what I did.
I've had my phone rooted with CWM for awhile, but have been running a Stock samsung ROM on ICS. Wanting to upgrade, I found slim and downloaded the i9100_4.2.zip file. Then I went downloaded Slim_Gapps. I flashed first the ROM than Slim_Gapps and everything went fine. Except I had no keyboard at all when the ROM loaded up. I managed to log into the google play store, by texting my username/PW to myself and copy pasting them to log into google. However, I was getting a server error in the play store. I tried clearing data from the store and all that but no luck.
I figured I must have the wrong software or messed something up. So I went back to and downloaded Slim-GT-I9100-2.8.0-OFFICIAL from the slim site again along with the md5sum fix. I rebooted to recovery, wiped cache, dalvik cache then just flashed, however, now my phone just hangs up on "Opening update package..." I flashed Siyah-s2-v5.0b2.tar from using ODIN, but the problem persist. When I tried to reflash using the i9100_4.2 I get the same problem. After freezing on "Opening update package..." for awhile, the phone reboots into CWM. I simply don't understand what the problem is.
That's everything I've done. What I want is to get my phone up-to-date with the Slim ROM and 4.1 Jellybean (If that's possible?)
Any help is greatly appreciated. I've been trying to solve this problem for hours and have become incredible frustrated.
P.S. I tried posting exact links to where I got all my files from but apparently that's not allowed.
Ok, after trying to install SlimBean 2.8 again it worked. However I now do not have a google play store. I have installed slim gapps but still do not have the store. Thoughts?

Thanks, that worked, but is the play store supposed to have a black background? And why does it have to be Multi DPI? (Curious)

The black background is the inverted version exactly the same in every way as a normal play store app. The black background is a power saving mod as it's less for the screen light up . The multi DPI is so it can recognise devices with differing DPI settings. (i think) Its an option to change in settings. Stock slim is dpi 182 i prefer 240 . Multi dpi play store will work with both

Ah alright, I didn't realize the black background had power saving purposes, I thought it was either a glitch or just supposed to look cool. I just got done messing with the DPI settings. I think I settled on 210? 182 was a bit too small. Thanks for your help and info.
Slim ICS / JB on S ll
Hello Calliddus.
I do not intend to hack your thread, just need some help.
Am new to the forum and to android. Have read the noob tutorials posted around.
I bought a new Samsung Galaxy S 2 which came with ICS 4.0.3 running on it.
I intend to install Slim bean ( if possible ), or Slim ICS (if its more practical) on the phone.
You seem to know what you are talking about, and I can't post on the Development threads in the forum.
Hence if it isn't must trouble, can you please guide me through the following ?
1. I tried looking, and since I couldn't find anything, would i be right if I assumed that installing a Slim ROM (Either ICS 4.0.4 or JB) over the Stock Samsung 4.0.3 , would not be something wrong or undesirable to do ?
2. I am not a very heavy or avid user, but I would like a simple, plain and glitch free OS with the advance customization options, so should I just stick to Slim ics or should i think about Slim bean (assuming its possible to install it on my device) ?
3. What backup method would you suggest, assuming I will fail in my upgrade and will have to go back to stock once again? ( Nandroid, CWM recovery, etc.. )
I have a lot more questions, but not as important.
Your help will be appreciated.

My experience with 240 DPI on KK stock based ROMs is that the Sony modification of the notifications/quick settings break those things when phablet mode is enabled. When the DPI is lowered to those numbers, Android automatically goes into phablet mode with a notification drawer on left swipe and quick settings on right ditto and what happens is that the first one breaks and fail to show any information.
In older 4.3 based stock ROMs, 240 DPI worked perfectly without breaking notifications on phablet mode.
Tablet mode itself has been removed but it can be restored through TabletKat for Xposed. The best way of running 240 DPI or 280 is to flash either the GPe ROM or something along those lines like CM11, CandyKat, SlimKat and so forth. The other option would be a 4.3 based stock ROM but I can't really recommend to jump back in Android versions.

The colors don't look as bright or punchy. They look faded out. I've only tried PA so far but the colors were severely lacking for me.
Perhaps the bravia engine stuff only gets executed at standard DPIs?
Can confirm that the GPE Rom supports all resolutions fine. I'm on 280 so at least you can resort to that if you're not tied to the stock Rom for any reasons
