[Q] Rooted my phone, not sure what to do next - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apparently I'm not allowed to post links, since this is pretty crucial for you to get what I've done, you can go to reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/15aq5m/rooting_my_sgs2_have_a_question/ to have some working links.
I followed this guide to root my phone. It went smooth and i got the CWM and SuperSU shortcuts. I downloaded ROM manager so that i could install cyanogen mod (10). Under the recovery tab it said Flash ClockworkMod recovery, i pressed it and came to the choose your device option, there was one called
Samsung Galaxy S2
galaxys2
and one called
Galaxy S2 i
i1900
The last one said "Samsung Galaxy S2 does not have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a ClockworkMod based recovery manually?" when i pressed it so i went with the other one and pressed install ClockworkMod recovery. It downloaded, said Flashing... and then disappeared.
I went out to the main menu again to see if it had gotten installed, it hadn't. Same Flash ClockworkMod recovery button, no info about any installed CM Recovery. I tried the same procedure above 2 more times but to no effect.
I then tried using this method to get CM Recovery, i think it worked. Now under the Flash CM Recovery it says "Installed verision: ClockworkMod 5.X.X.X" But i'm not entirely sure I've done things correctly and i dont feel comfortable continuing with the next step, whatever that is. Help anyone?
Android 4.0.4

To be honest I don't fully understand your story... but I do understand that you're not sure cwm is flashed on your device or not.
The simplest way to know is to go into recovery mode (Press volume up + home button + power button) and if it says Clockworkmod recovery on the top of the screen it should be all right

There are plenty of guides on here of what to do. There simply isn't any excuse for this type of topic. You should read sticky topics before creating topics like this.

[Q] backin up cwm? stuck on it??

I've read the whole cwm main posts, and so I kinda understand what cwm backup is, so heres a few quick questions on cwm (I'm sorry I'm still new to this stuff)
1.Does CWM backup everything?
like the state of apps to firmware version and eveything?
if not, please tell me what it backsup.
2.I've downloaded the CWM via Rom Manager 4.3.3.0, did recovery, and tried a backup, and,
it turns off, and the android dude under a big exclaimation mark is all I see, and it's stuck on it::So I yanked the battery out, and rebooted it(it the power button), and it, well, fine, so far. Tried again, stuck again, so, is there a solution on this??
ATT, 4.1.83, Rooted via Gingerbreak, Locked bootloader
1. Nandroid is full system backup, it backups everything, its a copy of your system.
2. I think this recovery is for bootloader unlocked phone only .
You need to use this recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019143
Guide to install it : http://briefmobile.com/atrix-4g-rom-installation-guide (Part Three – Tenfar’s CWM Recovery)
BTW, after you backup everything, go ahead and move to GingerBread.
Great guide over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600

OP, if you haven't unlocked your Atrix yet then ROM manager wouldn't have been able to install CWM Recovery.

OP, the CWM Recovery installed by ROM Manager doesn't quite work right with the Atrix. Which means that you can't really use ROM Manager on the Atrix right now, since almost everything it wants to do requires that you first install its own recovery.
So you'll need to use a slightly different version of the CWM Recovery created by member tenfar. FYI, the newest version is posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138541
P.S. Here's the easiest way to unlock your phone, install Tenfar's CWM Recovery, and install su for root access: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871
P.P.S. Based on your description, it sounds like you're booting into the stock Android Recovery. To get past the icons, try one or the other of these two methods (based on your firmware version):
Pre-4.5.91: Hold the phone in your hands in portrait mode (i.e. not laying on a flat surface). Touch the lower right-hand corner of the screen several times until you find the "sweet spot". One you get past this point you'll see that there are touch-buttons in both lower corners of the screen. To accept an item in the menu you will need to touch the button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. However, there's a bug in this version of Android Recovery which requires you to rotate the screen to LANDSCAPE mode before touching the button. Which means that once the phone is rotated you will be touching the lower right-hand corner of the screen...
4.5.91: I'm told that pressing both the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously will get you into the Android Recovery, but I was never able to get this to work. I just unlocked my phone and installed Tenfar's CWM Recovery instead. There are no problems with navigating his recovery.

Updating the thread to say... at this point the recommended Atrix recovery is romracer's version, posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
romracer is actively maintaining this version, which does work correctly with ROM Manger (assuming that you install ROM manager first, and then use it to install romracer's recovery). Also, this latest recovery correctly handles backups and restores to/from both the internal storage and the external SD card.

[Q] Potentially Bricked Samsung Galaxy SII

Hi there,
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 with the OS version ICS 4.0.4
Basically I read about my OS version having the superbrick bug in the kernel, and in order to root I needed to install a custom recovery partition (CWM) and then install custom ROMS, so I went ahead and downloaded CWM and then transferred the .tar over to my device with Odin, and Odin said all went well and it passed, next I went to root it with SuperOneClick (v2.2), so I fired that up and hit root, and all was well or so it seemed, SuperOneClick told me I had SU access, so I thought all had worked. I then started in recovery mode just to see if CWM was there and working correctly, however it was just the normal android one, no CWM - although it said Current Binary: Custom and Custom Binary Download: Yes (1 count). I quickly realised it had not rooted successfully when root checker told me it wasn't rooted, and CWM was missing and also that my video playback/camera screens weren't functioning properly - they were just black screens. So I hooked my phone back up to my PC and went to SuperOneClick and hit Unroot hoping all would be well, then when my phone started up again it gets stuck at the boot animation of the big 'S'.
So now I am stuck, I don't have CWM installed to perform a reset, and I don't think I can flash ROM's to my device directly in case it 'superbricks' due to the kernel bug, so I don't know whether I can just flash the stock ICS ROM back on
I am seriously annoyed with this, what can I do?
Any help is seriously appreciated
Thanks alot
Try finding your recovery menu (probably volume up+power from off) and wiping cache. If not, then try factory reset, also from stock recovery. If not, then i'd say you're gonna have to flash stock ICS. No help in your device's thread Q&a? My question is why was the CWM in .tar form? Usually it is an image..
Also, no help in SuperOneClick thread?

How do I wipe cache with the recovery menu? It is just the standard android recovery with "Volume up: Continue to download mode" or "Volume down: Cancel (restart phone)". Also would I be able to try and flash CWM again with a different file, and if it works I could perform a stock reset sort of thing? Could you link me to a reputable CWM file that will work so I can just shove the .tar in Odin and hit start. And I can't flash ICS as there is a high probability I have the superbrick bug
EDIT: The CWM Restore file for download for the SGSII here www (dot) clockworkmod (dot) com/rommanager are not in even in the correct format for flashing with Odin, what do I do??
Some recoveries allow a cache wipe, while others don't.. Recovery menu [if you've looked up how to access it on your particular device] most certainly should have a factory reset option as well, so im thinking you haven't found its menu.. Again, cwm should be in img format. .tar sounds like someone else's backup. If your inexperienced with what you're gonna need to do to fix your phone, i'd definitely say a warranty claim. I know someone that got a brand new sgsii just a week before her warranty ran out, due to the same issue.
And i've never used odin..look up a guy named samersh72 on the forum, and his threads.

[Q] Installed CWM Recovery on Galaxy Note N7000 and got in a bootloop straight away

Hello dear community
This is my very first thread I am making on this website, so please pardon me if I am on the wrong page of this website.
Anyways, I'm more or less desperate. I saw a youtube tutorial on how to install Android 4.4 Kit Kat on a Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 and I heard I'd need root AND a custom recovery.
Because I'm a total newbie to this kind of stuff, I tried the very first thing I saw that had something to do with custom recovery, because I already had my phone rooted. So, I looked up a tutorial on youtube on how to install CWM custom recovery and ended up with installing it successfully, but now my phone is stuck in a bootloop. As I already mentioned, I am a newbie and therefore I am very desperate at the moment, you know.
The only thing I can do is go to Recovery Mode, but if I try to turn the phone on it gets stuck in a bootloop (It actually doesn't loop at all, it just freezes at the moment when the Samsung Galaxy Note logo appears and doesnt do anything after that.).
I think my problem is that I actually threw a new Kernel on my phone, because the video title says "How to install Kernel with CWM [...]"
I would be very very very very very grateful if anyone was kind enough to help me get out of this!
I really need help!
Thanks!
PS.
If this helps you help me:
This happened when I had Android 4.1.2 installed.
There's going to be 2 ways to get out of this:
1) Reinstall the stock firmware via Odin.
2) Install a custom rom via recovery.
Personally, I'd go with number 2 because a) you wanted to update anyway and b) if you have the right recovery and rom, it'll be easier as you can just put the files you need on an external SD card and install via the custom recovery. Now, not all recoveries are able to flash any file. Many times you need specific ones to install the newer android versions. So, if you are wanting to install something 4.4 based, then using a recovery that was made, say, last year, probably will not work well if at all.
Another thing to try first, is to wipe the cache and dalvik cache in recovery since you said you tried to install a kernel. It is always recommended to wipe these when installing (assuming you did pick a compatible kernel with what you were trying to install).

[Q] Help installing CWM/TWRP for Galaxy S4 SGH-i337

Hello  I'm kind of new to modding android and ran into a few issues. Basically I want to get Paranoid Android on my Galaxy S4 sgh-i337 running 4.4.2.
I rooted my device using towelroot but have failed to install a custom recovery. Both CWM and TWRP said they installed successfully but ended up with the same problem; when I selected reboot in recovery mode it would reboot saying Samsung Custom and then go into odin mode saying "Could not do normal boot".
I'm not sure if I installed CWM/TWRP correctly, as all the guides I found online were outdated. I installed the recoveries from the corresponding apps (CWM - ROM manager, TWRP - TWRP manager)--but like I said, both apps said recoveries were successfully installed. I also tried getting CWM using Loki on my phone + terminal emulator, but the terminal said something about loki not being the correct version for my device.
In CWM I tried the option to flash a custom ROM from sd card, but it didn't seem to recognize any files on the card while the normal samsung storage did.
So now I'm really confused and frustrated and can't seem to find answers anywhere. I would be really grateful if someone could guide me in the right direction in an easy to understand way.
Thanks for any help!

Can't install ClockWorkMode on my Galaxy s3

Hello,
I come for you, because I am trying to install android 4.4 on my phone, because android 4.3 isn't compatible with pokemongo.
I have a galaxy s3 GT-I9300 from a few years, I've never rooted it and it runs on android 4.3.
I've been looking for guides that say that I need to install CWM recovery to then be able to install CyanogenMod.
So I've downloaded Odin, and CWM recovery, added the CWM recovery .tar in the AP box of Odin, put my phone on download mod, plugged it, and run Odin.
It appears that it works succesfully, but when I reboot my phone in recovery mode, I still have Android Recovery System <e3>, and I can't install zip from sdcards (if I understood correctly, <e3> doesn't support zip, whereas <e2> does, and CWM is supposed to put it to <e2>), so I can't install CyanogenMod.
Here is a screenshot of my Odin after running it: (I can't post the link since I'm a new user, so it's on imgur)

I can't think of any more information to provide for now.
Thanks for your help.

It could be permission issues. But try using a different cable.
Also, the recovery you are flashing has to support the model of the phone, otherwise, Odin will refuse to install it.

Thanks for the answer, I was not in root mode.
I fixed it and it now works, I have been able to install CyanogenMod from the zip in recovery.
Now I tried restarting my phone, and it's stuck in "Android is starting".
I have a little blue alien popping on my screen, then the screen turns off, then the screen turns on and says things like "starting applications, preparing settings, optimizing applications". But it seems to be doing it on repeat and it's been an hour. Is it normal that it takes so long? I haven't seen it mentionned anywhere from what I checked.
