Flash s3 help - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
Can someone please help me? So I have my S3 on 4.1.1. Rooted some time back with CF and Odin. Since then i have the same message as everyone else - updates disabled modified blah blah blah. Now I want update to 4.1.2 but i just want to upgrade rather than wipe everything i have. Is this possible? I think all the files on sammobile seem to be the full version rather than just to upgrade. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, if I flash say the Polish or Vodafone Ireland version (Im with meteor Ireland) will this cause any problem? Living in Ireland - will the CSC code be wrong and if so do i need it for anything or can i leave it on the wrong version? I might also just wait for the official meteor upgrade in the next few days to appear on sammobile but again would this be an upgrade or would it overwrite everything on my phone
Many thanks

If I'd be you - I'd start from reading the stickies, first.
Secondly, I'd try to find in General the thread which provides comprehensive info about unrooting, ota and other stuff....

Take a look at this, it has all you need.

HELP: Want to Upgrade SGSII with 2.3.6 / 7 (DBT)

Hi Frnds,
I am newbie in SGS2 Family i bought Samsung Galaxy S 2 and update my first firmware update with official update 2.3.4.
So my Latest firmware is : PDA:KI4 / PHONE:KI1 / CSC:KH1(DBT)
Now i want to update it with 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 as official firmware is taking to give update on my country and right now i m in india.
I don't know about which Rom m i have and what kernel i m using.
So kindly please please let any friend help me which kernel or rom should i upgrade with so ill be having latest firmware update on my SGS2 mobile.
Please pls help me.
If you updated via KIES, you have the stock Samsung ROM. You can see the kernel in settings -> about.
If you want something that isn't available from KIES, you have to flash a custom ROM, pick one from this list. I think the only one that is 2.3.7 is CM7 (and maybe MIUI), those are AOSP ROMs, a tad different from Samsung ROMs, so I wouldn't advise them for a newbie.
Other than this, please read around the forums, most of the questions were already answered, and no one likes lazy and stupid people asking lazy and stupid questions.

Following detail i get when i say on my mobile settting->about.
Baseband : I9100XXKI1
Kernel version : [email protected] 143 #2
Build Number : gINGERBREAD XWKI4
Ok ill not go for 2.3.7 but can u pls pls help me from where i can download 2.3.6 kernel which is compatible with my phone as i have (DBT) version German.
Actually there are so many thread i just have confused what to download pls show me one way rest ill findout promise ....
Sorry if i broken any of forum rules.
thanks
At the moment for India there is no official 2.3.6/7 available and if you look at the firmware your phone has you will see that it has a german csc(DBT).The only way to get to what you want is to flash something like KK5 and then a custon ROM with a built-in multi-csc package that contains the csc for your region or one that would at least do the same job.XDA have INU as indias csc although a neighbouring countries csc will quite often do the same job.Seeing as your phone is on a german firmware(DBT) Kies will search for the latest german update unless you want to flash it.

Look in the development section. There you will find the things you want to know. Flashing roms involves risks, so you should start learning what everything means. It will save you a lot of problems.
Give me alteast on way or that thread link only

Why do you want to update when you have just got a new phone ? You will hardly notice much, if anything, by updating. Use your phone as it is for a couple of weeks, find out what you like and what you don't like. In the mean time read about all these threads here regarding rooting, flashing methods, various ROM/themes etc.
Is it really that hard to find?

Everything you need is in that thread. Read read read.

If you dont want to flash a custom ROM you could go to the link below and flash from the "Frankinstein" section at the bottom the KK5 firmware then factory reset your phone, boot to download again and flash the India ODD KF3 CSC from the csc section given at the bottom and then when its done you need to do another factory reset again. This will give you KK5 with your local csc.Thats what I did on KH3 here in Spain to get my csc(FOP).Take into mind that these are not without risks if you dont follow the rules of flashing.A nearby countries csc will also do the job just as well so flashing KK5 and then a custom ROM with a multi csc package is always a go but its your choice.KK5 with the csc flash will be more close to stock looking and custom ROMs bring more mods and themes.

[Q] International S3 to Orange Branded S3

Excuse my ignorance on this however I have tried researching the questions I wish to ask and haven't got any further clarification.
I'm currently sporting a GT-I9300 (from Phones4U)on I9300XXLH1 (using the orange network) however the "wifes" puppy decided that he would take 'said' phone for a walk and smashed the screen (not the digitiser).
I have Insurance through Orange care who have agreed to honour the agreement and send me another S3 out today , I can only assume that this will be a branded S3.
I've downloaded Odin 3.04 and have obtained Modem_CWM_I9300XXLH1 file and Im awaiting delivery, however I now have a query which I'm hoping XDA can help me with.
1) Is this the right file to flash to get the operating system back to the international one and will it work?
2) Is there a hardware difference between the International/Unbranded Phones4u S3 and the Orange S3?
3) After I have flashed this ROM, can I use Kies to update the phone normally when Jellybean arrives?
I'm also using quicktap sim which was a pain in the butt to set up so this needs to be taken in to consideration when flashing the phone.
I have attached the ROM I've downloaded just for clarification
Any help, advice, guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
According your location, sorry for my bad skills in english :'/
So, I will try to help you.
1) No, it's not the right file. You need the full firmware containing apps/modem/csc_informations ...
For United Kingdom, the last one "by Samsung (not Jb leak)" is : PDA I9300XXBLG8 and CSC I9300OXABLG8 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
This file is about 750MB and is available on "sammobile(dot)com" > Firmware and files (I don't know if I can put link to another website here).
2) There are no difference between the Unbranded and Branded phone. Only firmware modification in the branded one and perhaps software Sim-lock by Orange.
3) If you don't "root" your phone with (CF-Root-v6.4 - thanks Chainfire), I think we can receive update from Kies. But if it's no possible, you can download Jelly Bean from the Internet and flash your phone using Odin of course.
Thanks
Thankyou for the response,
would you happen to have a link or the file that I require for the flash , I did a bit of searching last night and the one I got was the the one shown , however if you have links or know a better one I'd appreciate the information.
Thanks again

Here, we will find tutorial about "Flashing new firmware on Samsung Galaxy S3" and others not necessary for the moment (don't root your phone if you don't know what is it) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
For the last firmware : http://samsung-updates.com/fw/Samsung-Updates.com-GT-I9300_BTU_1_20120806161432_al03it6wa2.zip
And if you don't have ODIN 3.04 : https://androidfirmwares.net/Tools/Download/8
Before flashing your phone, you need install the Galaxy S3 drivers (with Kies for example). Take care : when you use ODIN, Kies must not run on your computer.
cheers
thanks you I'm downloading the files now,
I assume that it I use kies already then my laptop with have my device drivers already (or do I need to re-download them)?
I know about Rooting I'm just not really wanted to do it
Many thanks for the help

just flash a rom of your choice through odin.
reply
Hay thanks, I downloaded the ODIN, and installed and connected the phone, but a bit lost on what to do next,
I also tried looking on the Samsung updates but nothing what says UK, maybe I am doing something wrong I do not know as I have no knowledge about this
try mobile odin, flash a ROM (there are plenty to choose from in this forum) get rid of the bloatware and then dedicate yourself to read xda a 1 or 2 hours per day.
mobile odin wont let you brick your phone that easy so my advice is for you to jump into the no-carrier-bloatware-wagon
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Don't mess with odin, since you are unexperienced. Just instal samsung kies and update ROM to latest version. 4.0.4, at least for orange romania, is almost debranded. No orange apps, seems almost as debranded rom.
hardly a debranded rom thru kies; he might wanna try mobile odin cause the risk is close to 0.
keep in mind that he just download odin, plugged the phone & sat there waiting for something to happen; like chuck norris & stuff.
from my sii xda-ed..b4 JB leak freezes this app
Just bought and downloaded the "mobile odin pro" but
i go to launch the program and it says " superUser access is needed but could not be acquired, are you rooted and did you give permission"

I wouldn't call him inexperienced; he's got me as a backup should anything go wrong.
The only reason he went to try to find out by himself is because I actually want him to find things out for himself. However, that does not mean I am going to leave him "high and dry" and be unhelpful by saying stuff like that.
I did give him a few hints prior to this post being made and this wouldnt be the first non Sony Ericsson branded phone I have "genericed" - the other one being a HTC Wildfire.
As for the OP, well, if we cant sort it over the 'net then Im gonna have to pop over and sort it out whilst I sort that other thing out :silly:
you need to root you device; what rom are you using? gingerbread? ice cream sandwich?

Hi there,
Im actually talking to him via the likes of Skype.
Hes running Android version 4.0.4 (ICS, presumably "stock" Orange branded).
Ok, hes flashed his phone via Odin PC version
He wants LP7 for 4.0.3 or LPT for 4.0.4.
Thats unbranded UK.

And how about a link to those files since the only firmware I could find him was from here?: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3
Needless to say I told him to download 4.0.4 using United Kingdom (Carphone Warehouse) as thew search type as this looks like the most generic one I could find.
As I said: its done now and the phone is working!
i'm a newbie, first rooted back in october.

[Q] i9300 help with baseband/firmware and official samsung firmware

Hi all, I need some information/help regarding the method to unroot my phone. i have checked a bunch of sites online and i know what the general idea is, but i can't seem to find the original firmware for my phone.
i am currently using an i9300 that I purchased unlocked from Amsterdam last summer. i have rooted it and have been using it on cm9 stable for the international s3 and now want to go back to stock firmware for warranty reasons.
i have been through the list of firmwares on samsung-updates.com but I am not sure which firmware i should install for my specific phone. there are a few netherlands links that i saw but were for tmobile...
furthermore, using *#1234# on my phone doesnt do anythign at all. the baseband version is i9300CELH1 when i go into about phone.
please help me figure out where I can find the original firmware for my phone that will keep it in its original warranty.
Thanks and I apologize in advance if I come off as a noob!

my phone was unlocked, got it for 600 euros so it wasnt locked to any carrier as far as I know.
sam mobile shows tmobile and vodafone, and a third one that doesnt mention any carrier. should i just go ahead with that? either way, is there a chance of my phone being bricked?

There is always a 'Chance' of being bricked but to be honest if you follow the Instructions it should be all ok, I have flashed via ODIN quite a lot and never had any issues Id say go for whichever ROM version you want e.g. is 4.1.2, I know new version is out on Vodafone so id say give that one a try just make sure to select the correct model number

[Q] Updating i9100 from Gingerbread 2.3.5

I'm entirely new to this so try to bear with me
I recently bought a Galaxy SII from a one day deals store and it arrived running Gingerbread 2.3.5. I want to update to the latest version available for the SII however the OTA update won't connect to the server and Kies (after at least two hours trying to get it to recognise my device) has told me that my current firmware can't be updated. Unless someone knows an obvious fix for Kies I guess I'm stuck with having to flash the new firmware using Odin. I'm using a guide on CNET (unfortunately I can't post links yet) that goes through installing ICS but replacing ICS with Jelly Bean.
The biggest problem is which firmware to get. My CSC code is OXA (Open Europe). Do I have to find firmware that matches that or can I just chose any one that I please then follow the guide that I'm using? I've been looking on SamMobile and there is a lot of different regions to chose from but none of them have the OXA CSC code and I don't know what to do. Also, is there anything I should look out for? I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure it gets tiresome helping people like me.

There you go OXA It seems open Europe ended at 2.3.5 .. No wonder you can't update.. Anyway Poland's firmware should work just fine. Or just search the firmware of your own region. Do remember to do a factory reset after flashing JellyBean!
Alternately I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Its the latest firmware Samsung has to offer.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I think I understand now. The CSC is really only relevant to your current version. If I flash Jelly Bean from another region the CSC will just change to that region and still work as normal? Does it have any effect whatsoever on the function of the phone?

Yes CSC is bundled with the firmware. Dunno why but every time I flash a firmware it does not come with CSC and I must flash it manually.. Now that's a whole other story. If you plan on flashing a firmware not related to you region e.g you flash a European firmware while you stay in Asia then the CSC is quite pointless as kies won't let you update through it anyway. That said you must have the correct CSC/Firmware/Modem and region to recieve official updates through Kies. If not updating via Odin is good as well .

Well I live in New Zealand and the phone that I have has the European CSC code. The site that I got it from is called 1-day who claim to find the best prices from around the world in order to give ridiculously low prices. I assume that means that my phone came all the way over from Europe. Based on what you say then, I assume then that the CSC wouldn't matter in my case anyway as even stock, my CSC is in the wrong region?

Its OK at most bring it down to Samsung service centre and ask them to update your phone to the latest they have. They should be more then happy to help.

Awesome, thanks for your help. I'm fine with just flashing it with Odin. I was planning to root it anyway. I'm just trying to find out as much as I can before I try.
