[Q] Is there a reason the camera does this? - HTC Droid DNA

when i go into the camera the screen gets brighter while in the app as soon as i go out within seconds it lowers its self..this is without auto brightness

Possibly to make the images on screen more illuminated so you see more detail in what you intend to take a picture of? I'm just guessing here but that would seem reasonable.

^This. It makes sense that you would want your screen bright enough to be able to see everything (that is allowed by lighting) in the image.

yes. entering the camera defaults to 100% brightness, and it lowers back down once you back out.

[Q] camera question ~ anti-shake?

In the settings menu of the camera, there is an option to toggle the anti-shake feature. When toggled on the screen and resulting image appears darker. It also seems that the feature does not alleviate the "shakes". Does anyone know whats going on?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Mine does the same. Think it is to do with the iso stabilisation technique used and is normal. It speeds the image capture up over the norm to stop blur. So in low light the sensor can't get enough light and becomes darker.
Sounds reasonable you haven't happened to hear the phone/camera make a noise? Almost like a click after previewing an image. It's definitely not coming from the speaker.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Yes I have heard the click from the camera. I think it is something to do with the auto focus but not certain. I don't like hearing the sound because it makes me wonder if something is going to break but I'm guessing it is normal because I have read of others hearing it. It doesn't do it often and I can't remember when mine is more likely to make it.

[Q]Fix Blurry Camera Photos

So most of us have had our photon for a while now. This is just a general question to see if anyone has any thoughts on this.
When I got my photon I was able to take descent photos of still objects and people etc. However the more I use my Photon's camera the worse the photos seem to turn out. Now the phone cant auto focus anything. everything is blurry.
See two photos attached.
My camera settings:
Scenes: auto
Effects: normal
Flash: auto
Picture Mode: single shot
Resolution: WideScreen
Video Resolution: HD(720p)
Exposure: 0 & -1 & -2(all same results)
Storage: internal
Phone
System Version: 45.2.5
Rooted
Unlocked (Pudding)
Edit: Also tried replacing the blurCamera apk with a back up that I had from a while ago. No Luck
I was just wondering if anyone had any possible thoughts on how to fix it?
have you used it as a rock and throw it on one of the Sprint employ's before?
and now seriously...
try to change to Macro, get a lock on some close item and return to Normal?

lol. no aggression. I actually rarely use the camera only when something interesting comes up and I dont have my real camera with me. I love the phone overall. Probably one of the best I have ever had. Just seems a bit funny that the camera worked so good and then just degraded like that. every now and then I get a nice macro shot but anything with some distance just isnt going to happen. I am more curious if it happened after the ota upgrade. Might try and get the original image and see.

if you do please alarm me!

My suggestion would be to try a third party camera app with touch to focus and see if your camera isnt auto-focusing properly anymore. If it isn't, return it.

any good app suggestions?
fx camera or camera 360 can be nice
you also have advanced camera and lightbox.
So I tried Camera 360 and the first several photos didnt work. I was like &%#$ and just took photo after photo after photo. then one came out clear. I opened the regular camera app and kept taking photos and they started focusing. My guess would be that the camera may have gotten stuck or something or maybe camera 360 just hit the spot and got things working again. I am gonna keep a close eye on this one.
Going out later for some night life fun and I am going to fill that sd card up.

TEP acquired!
I've never felt like the camera on this phone was very good. even in good lighting the pictures always look grainy. Also the color on the screen seems to be off some. All reds are more noticeable on the phone. Photos of people always look like they are blushing.
Stock camera app is pretty fail for me as well. Very blurry and the colors are off.
About every 3rd picture I take is just 'ok' the rest are unusable for any thing.
I did notice however that Panoramic Pictures are very clear and colored correctly.
I realize that we are working with a cell phone camera, but I do expect much better than this, especially considering how good my epics camera was - considering it was a cell phone.
This is the only thing on this phone I really can't stand, there are a few annoyances, but this one is bad.

Even my evo 3d has a better camera. Makes me upset at times but I'll live through it

Are you using the onscreen button? If not try that instead.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Using the onscreen button, make sure you hold the button, let it focus, then release for it to take the picture.
Speaking of the button options. I wonder if we will have a rom that allows the physical button to react like the on screen button.
On cm7 my evo shift allowed me to use the volume down button exactly like the onscreen button.

Meh, it's a little better with the on screen. Wonder why it acts differently? Seems more natural to use than on screen button.

Issue with bank of america check deposit

I installed the BoA mobile banking app. It came with a check deposit feature. That said, you need to take two pictures, one of the front another of the back. I had no issue to take the image of the front of the check, but had trouble to take the back side.
The back side of the check is relatively white/blank, so it's hard for the camera to focus, and I cannot just tap the check to change the focus point.
Any one experienced this and had a solution?

Have you tried taking a photo while it still appears blurry (maybe in camera app so as not to send a blurry pic to the bank) ?
I often take photos of things up close and while they may appear blurry, even after I tap to focus, they come out quite sharp... Anyway, probably worth a try!
Have you tried any camera apps from Google Play?

A long shot from my photography book ...
But the auto focus in the camera needs a contrast color as a reference point ...
As you know ...the camera ignores the white color as empty space ...and looks for solid base colors to focus against ...
If your bank will allow it ...you can set the check on top of a dark piece of paper ...as this may assist the lens with focus distance.
Or ..if you are allowed to sign your name on the back in black ink ...that would help also ..
And of course ....distance from the image is important too ...
Stay out at least 12 inches or more and zoom manually if needed to capture .
That's my .02 on the camera ....g

Thanks for your tips!
I actually have signed the check with black ink, but it's on top of the check, which means, when I tried to focus on the check, the camera by default always used the central point to focus. I cannot write anything below the line, which may void the check.
Currently the only effective way that I can take a sharp image was under bright light. That said, a normal 40w ceiling light won't work.

Also put the check on a black background and then take the front and back pictures. I had the same trouble until I put the check on my black keyboard and took the pictures and it works the first time.
Now that feature is crashing the app on version 4.2.55 of the BofA app.
I use B of A app to deposit my checks. My app has little corner guides. When u get them lined up around the corners of the check push the button. I dont even look at the focus or anything else. Photo comes out fine and bank accepts it..

Solution
Sorry if I'm reviving an old thread, but I had the same problem and got it to work at least for me. At first I was trying to line up the check's corners with the guide corners in the app when taking the picture. It kept having a problem until I finally zoomed out a little bit. I guess having the camera that close to the check wasn't allowing it to focus correctly. Hopefully that helps someone else.

Actually the root cause is that the camera always wants to focus on the central point. That's why it can focus the front side of the check - there are a lot of contents, but not the back side - it's all white and blank.
BoA seems to accept a pen on top of the check image and I successfully did it multiple times.
Zoom out seems to be an other solution, too.
Thanks!

Camera tweak?

I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I swear I looked. Does anyone know of a way to alter the settings on the camera flash? It takes WAY longer to take pictures than any phone I've used. By the time the phone is done blinding people with the multiple bursts of light, my subject has moved and the picture is ruined. Thanks in advance!

I'm seeing this problem as well. Also when taking a picture with flash the picture comes out very blue. Never noticed that much blue with other android phones. I'd hate to have to touch up every photo that I have to use flash.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Yea the color temp of the flash (which is just an LED, not a true photo flash) causes that blue tint.
My Galaxy S3s have the exact same problem. Swapping around the white balance setting can help correct this.
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/white-balance.htm
If you use an app like Camera FV-5 it is MUCH easier to change settings like this than it is in the stock camera app.

Bland Screen

Check out this picture. My HTC M8 is on the left. New S6 on right. Both turned up to full brightness. My M8 screen looks so much more vivid and colorful. Anybody else seen this issue?
Have you checked your gs6's display settings? I'm curious if this is a hardware issue on your device or if it's just one of the other profiles - make sure it's set to "adaptive".

check to make sure auto brightness did not turn off. For some reason many people, including myself, have seen the auto brightness become automatically unchecked and brightness lowered.
I too came from the M8. I have yet to decide which screen I like more. I love AMOLED blacks and colors, but the screen seems so dim (especially if you've been looking at any other screen) and the whites seem yellow.
Full brightness on recent Samsung flagships is achieved on auto brightness in full sunlight, not in the dark. If you did this outdoors at noon you'd have a different result.
Make sure auto brightness is off and adaptive display is on
I took this picture inside. Auto brightness was off. Adaptive on. No power saving mode on. I can't stand auto brightness on phones. I usually keep my screens around 85-90%. Both S6s are going back and I'm going with the M9 or Nexus 6. Way too many issues with these phones.

You must have a bad unit or power saving mode going crazy or something. I have the M8 and M9 and the edge screen is night and day brighter. Like not even in the same league brighter and more vibrant. It makes the M9 look dull and lifeless.
Yeah mine is a bad unit too. It's going back tomorrow. I've played with the power saving and all display modes. No go.

I have the M9 in my hand right now. Camera is awful and it does have heating issues. Always warm. I do like sense 7 over touchwiz but I can't handle the crappy camera. Look at the photo comparison here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/photos-comparisons-s6-vs-t3076641

So I grabbed a flashlight and turned on auto bright. I put the flashlight over the sensor and the screen got extremely bright. Way more than having the manual setting at it's highest level. Maybe they'll update the software so we can turn the screen up to where we want it.

I can't use Samsung's "auto" mode for brightness. Always too dim for me. I have been using Lux Auto Brightness (paid version although there is a free version you can try) for a long time and I find it does a much better job than any "auto" mode from manufacturers. I think they make it as dim as possible to help with battery stats. But it is pointless if my battery lasts twice as long and I can't see the screen LOL
Thanks. I'll try that.

Yep, just look at this image:
I really hope there's a hack that gets max brightness without auto brightness. I stay in a dark environment so it always keeps it on the lowest brightness, waaaaay too low, especially compared to my computer. I want the max brightness (I know, I know, bad for eyes, whatever), I mean, that's what the slider should do...

try lux auto brightness. You can set your values to what you want in each environment and time of day. Love it for fine tuning how my auto brightness works. The only issue with the edge is the screen does not blur when you swipe out your contacts from the edge. Hopefully they will fix that soon.
