Hi everyone! I been noticing that my i9100 is not running edge anymore but rather it has an H or H+ on the signal bat. Is this HSPA+ speed on the phone or am I just being too excited? I think this is because of T-Mobile running the new bands. If I can I will screenshot it when I see it again. So does anyone have the same thing as me? Thank you!

You should have posted a question in the q n a section. However for your information in the UK with t mobile I have had h+ speeds for roughly two years. It's got even faster on ee even though still h+ not 4g.. And 3 network gets even faster speeds on h+

Same here. I have had H+ for years. I only ever get edge when I'm in a very low signal area.
He's talking about T-Mobile in the US, which runs HSPA on different bands than in Europe.
Well, until recently, anyways. They have been in the process of re-farming the 1900mhz band for this use, so depending on the market you are in, you may have gotten it. So if that band is turned on to HSPA where you are, you'll get it on the i9100.
@mattisfaction well it did not seem like a question. I was trying to see if anyone had it like me.
@ctomgee he is right. I was talking about T-mobile USA. But thank you for answering my question. This is amazing! I love my i9100 even more now!

ok so i am currently with sprint and own a sph-d700 aka epic 4g. i am so sick of getting crappy 3g speeds and unreliable 4g speeds that are not really 4g speeds (4mb seems to be best i have seen but average just 2mb) in the north east (NY,NJ,PA. i do a lot of driving). I have fallen in love with amoled displays and would like to get an unlocked gs2 so that i wont be tied down to either carrier for 2 years if things dont work out.
So is there a model of this phone that works on both att and t-mobiles network with hspa+ speeds? does att and t mobile have the same speeds on hspa+ when in a good coverage area?
thanks in advance for the help.
As I understand it, the T-Mobile version of the SGS2 (SGH-T989) will work on both T-Mo and AT&T networks. You might get better information in the T-Mobile SGS2 forums.

thank you, for your input.
Hi, everybody. Things happens so I left my US phone in Warsaw's taxi being there for Euro-2012 and bought Galaxy S2 I9100 from Orange. Came back to US and was trying to configure internet connection and had no luck getting 4G speeds. So far on the phone it just showing EDGE and low speeds. Is there any way to fix that issue? Was trying to search for this on the forums and Google, just found a couple of ideas that it doesn't work with 4G for some reason.
Any help would be appreciated!
Not sure if polish sgs2 have 4g (Lte) at all. If you want 3g you need to change APN settings for your providers default. You will find it in web.
Other possibility - you have no coverage of network .

If you're on T-mobile USA, you'll never get better than Edge speeds on their network with an i9100. The phone doesn't have the requisite antenna hardware to receive 1700 mhz for UMTS, which us one of the two required frequencies of the AWS band. (the other being 2100 mhz)

You're right, the i9100 does NOT have LTE. He's trying to get what passes for 4G (HSPA+) on one of our US carriers. I'm trying to determine if it's T-mobile USA or AT&T.
I totally missed the carrier name right in the thread title. Simple Mobile operates on the T-mobile USA network. So, I'm sorry to inform you, but you bought a phone that will never get 4G on your network. Sorry.
What about 3G? Or because of the antenna frequency difference not even that?

Same bands. So same problem.
How do you enable hspa+ on an atrix 4g? I can never seem to get the "H+" or "4g" icon, only H (i've checked inside the phone settings and it is definitely just hspa, not hspa+, or hspa: category 10 or otherwise)
I bought my atrix 4g off craigslist and used it on ATT straight talk for a month and had horrible speeds and never had hspa+ (only hspa) so I had the phone carrier unlocked and took it to tmobile monthly 4g but still I am only getting hspa (not hspa+).
Basically, is this phone capable of getting "pseduo-4g" hspa+ or is it locked to hspa? I've seen several mentions of ATT shipping the phone with hspa+ disabled, but no way of knowing how to enable it.
Other info: I am currently using neutrino ROM.
Thanks!
You will only get edge on t mobile with any att phone.............

Well, its now an unlocked phone and I know I get more than edge because I have hspa right now.

I already gave you the answer... If you believe you can get 3g with an atrix 2 on t mobile, you must be a hero.
The bands are not compatible. A quick google search will plainly show you that.

Except that Tmobile is refarming their 1900mhz pcs from 2g to 3g... so yeah you can. Las Vegas and Kansas City are already official... so what?

Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, the Atrix 4G does 14.4mbps hspa, isn't the 21mbps the actual hspa+?
I know it may not be possible but, Hes talking about an ATRIX 4g. Not ATRIX 2. READ MUCH???
Sent using AT&T DROID BIONIC.
The Atrix 4G and the Atrix 2 both support T-Mobile's "4G" network which is simply HSPA+ but the best you'll do with the Atrix 4G is 14.4 Mbps (good luck getting that actual speed). The Atrix 2 can hit the 21.1Mbps but not the 42Mbps speeds, and again, good luck with that.
The Atrix 4G is fully capable of being used with T-Mobile now that they are refarming/rolling out their 3G and "4G" 1900 MHz band, people in some areas still haven't gotten the upgrade yet but in many places in the US you can get 3G speeds and even the "4G" HSPA+ with that device on T-Mobile without issues. Here in Vegas when they turned that on a few weeks back (the day the iPhone 5 was released) I had an Atrix 4G and got T-Mobile 3G/HSPA+ service that afternoon with speeds in excess of 6Mbps because I live across the street from a cell site for them, average is about 3-5Mbps most of the time.
The Atrix 4G will most commonly show HSPA:10 when used with T-Mobile, in my experience (that's on ICS or JB ROMs, GB won't show that level of detail/info).
As for the HSPA or HSPA+, they all basically work the same way. 14.4Mbps is considered under the HSPA+ "umbrella" as the saying might go.

I didn't know tmob where deploying a hspa frequency that at&T use. Thanks for that tip.
10Mbps achieved on Atrix on at&T 3g network here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905464
hspa category 10 is 'characterized' as hspa+ but is not hspa+ (evolved hspa) and should not display h+ or 4g on the status bar for that reason. The 4g branding is exactly that... "branding" and at&T should have never used 4g in the name in my opinion. They always said "4g like speeds"
See post #4 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912716 where there are also a couple links I posted that I found interesting on this subject.

Hmm, interesting info guys. I do indeed live in Vegas and have been using a GB ROM (maybe I'm not seeing hspa: category 10 because of this).
Sounds like I've done all I can then, thanks!

Only ics and jb display the additional radio info.
The key is that you are on a radio that is suited to your rom and provider. 36p and 37p are the two most popular at&t radios, 37p being the official production release and used on many releases. Both 36p and 37p operate at hspa 10. Each provider is at differing phases, as well as having differing standards in their network, for how they implement the any bells and whistles of cellular. There is so much to it.

Terrible speeds with H+ Icon. Hspa marked as H+.
I am only getting Edge, Umts and HsPa.. My phone marks hspa as H+. I check on status and Umts and Hspa is marked as H+.. My speeds are terrible, only getting 1.8 mbps.

Might get the app on Google Play called Antennas, it'll show you the cell sites/towers you're connected to on maps; if you're connected at a given mode (like HSPA or UMTS) but you're pretty far from the site/tower, that could be the primary reason you get the "terrible" speeds. Antennas does work best, however, by putting the phone in 2G/EDGE mode but it is capable of doing 3G/4G/HSPA/UMTS/etc as well.
I live literally across the street from the main site/tower that I stay connected to so I pull 5-8Mbps when I'm in HSPA+ mode but, I keep my Photon in 2G/EDGE mode probably 99% of the time, I have Wi-Fi at home also so there's just no reason to use up any of my 5GB of bandwidth for the "4G" side of things.
T-Mobile 1900 mhz service on Atrix 4G in MD!!
So having played with a couple of 4Gś @ work (and how unawesome they made my G2x look!) I purchased a combo phone and lapdock. This before i realized they worked on different frequencies!!! DOH!
Fortunately, T-Mobś been ahead of me on the curve. I read that they started the long road to providing their service to the souls stranded out in Verizon &/or AT&T limbo...
So I swapped my sim and...Yaaaay! 4 of 5 bars of....wait for it... H+!!!
Then, BOOOOO! No data! No MMS. No internet!:crying:
A few hours of online (and Iḿ ashamed to say, trial and error build prop editing) plus 3 calls to T-Mob yielded this in an email:
¨APN settings for data and picture messaging (MMS): Android" on T-mobileś support page (as a noob I cannot post the link):silly:
Iḿ now docked, working, spotifying and sharing ´ẃif my XDA fam!¨
Hope this helps!
Hey Everyone,
I picked up the Dev version of the Lumia 920 and have been using it for a couple days. Everything has been great except the phone doesn't seem to hit LTE. It stays on 4G. The area I'm in does have LTE and when I put my sim card back into my 900, LTE works fine.
I've spent some time on the phone with Rogers and attempted to reset settings on their side and have even registered the device IMEI with them to no avail.
Does anybody know what I can do to get this to work? I'm fine keeping the phone on 4G but would love to see it on LTE eventually.
Thanks in advance!!
Go into cellular settings and make sure your highest connection speed is set to LTE and not 3G. Also make sure you have your APN set correctly. Without the right APN you won't get any evidence of LTE on the device. Once you set it correctly LTE should magically start working.
I have tried manually inputting the APN for Rogers LTE and that did not work. My sim also has settings programmed which show up and can be selected. The first is Rogers 3G which doesn't work at all and the second is Rogers LTE which makes everything work but only gets me a 4G connection.
The highest connection speed is set to 4G as it doesn't have an LTE option which is similar to how it was on my 900. Upon picking 4G, it should just hit LTE but it doesn't. I've taken the sim out and put it into the 900 and confirmed that LTE does work but when I put the sim back into my 920, I only get 4G.
4G is LTE ...
That's what I initially thought but the phone indicator should actually say LTE instead of 4G. I've checked this on my lumia 900 as well as on other 920's seen around the net.

hmm never seen that .. got any screenshots of photo's of a 920 showing this? That would mean I have not been on LTE even once !
For the current signal the Rogers variant shows
3G
4G -- refers to HSDPA etc
LTE -- refers to LTE
I know this because I experienced LTE on AT&T with a Rogers 920. But it didn't start working until I had the right APN.
The options in Cellular Settings for highest speed are 2G, 3G, LTE. Make sure it's set to LTE.

on the dev version of the phone (from MS build, which I also have), 4G is LTE. If you are on 3g you will get an H indicator. It won't say LTE.
Trust me, if it says 4G, it is on LTE. I've done some speed tests, and a few other tests, it really is LTE.

thanks! I'll take your word for it. I found it weird that it never said LTE but speeds have been fairly good!
Are you sure '4G' is LTE on the dev version? Speeds alone won't necessarily tell you.
On the Rogers variant, I'm seeing something like this:
'3G' --> non-HSDPA UMTS
'4G' --> HSDPA, HSPA+
'LTE' --> LTE
It's possible for the MO to customize some of these strings and they do it for marketing reasons. On the MS variant I'd expect the indicators to be a default set that are closely tied to the actual technology without any of the marketing-speak, something like
3G -- non-HSDPA 3G
H -- HSDPA
H+ -- HSPA+
LTE -- LTE
I could be wrong.
Where did you guys pick your Dev versions up?

I'm using an Unlocked Rogers Lumia 920 on the Telus network in Calgary. At first I assumed seeing 4G on the screen meant I was connected via LTE (the speeds were reasonably fast). However it turns out I just don't have LTE coverage in my house.
I was visiting a friend one day and noticed LTE had popped up, did a speed test and it was significantly faster.
Here are a few speed tests I've done around Calgary using the Free Speed Test app (all numbers in mbps):
my house, 4G: 7 down, 2.75 up (not sure which location I tested against)
friends house, LTE: 12.21 down, 0.88 up (tested against Idaho)
friends house, LTE: 16.56 down, 1.77 up (same physical location as previous test, tested against Seattle)
at work, LTE: 15.16 down, 5.67 up (tested against Seattle)
Next time I'm downtown I'll do more testing there. I would assume the coverage is better as you get closer to city center.
Howdy everyone and thanks for helping.
Last year I had an S2 with a 70$ Pre-paid T-mobile SIM and while connectivity was OK, max. data carrier was EDGE, which was OK, given that it was reliable and had no caps that could be reached with EDGE.
This year in June I would like to have best mobile coverage, travelling between Boston and Chicago, both through upstate NY and PA.
Please suggest the best deal to have a) a good, fast network, b) high data volume and c) usable with a European Galaxy S3.
Your input is greatly appreciated!

I'm on at&t, works flawlessly on the i9300 on h+, usually get ~3Mb/s but sometimes raises to 8Mb/s during the night
The i9300 doesn't have the 1700 band for t-mobile 3g so you'll be on edge
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I also have the i9300 here in the states. I use tmobile on the phone. If those areas that you travel have been refarmed for the 1900mhz frequencies you will get h+. I currently live in such an area, so the speeds are faster than when I was with att. But if you want the most reliable speeds as possible with out issues then you need to have att coverage.
